Five stars for an amazing staff! I came in to order some take out without realizing they were going to close early that day for the 4th of July weekend (it wasn't the actual holiday but they had reduced hours) and they were so nice to still let me place an order. They were out of ribs so I went with the brisket (lean) and the pulled pork along with a few sides: baked beans, mac and cheese, corn bread, coleslaw, and sweet potato fries. Everything was very good. I always think lean brisket is a good idea (to be a bit healthier) but then I get it and wish I had done the regular. But for lean it's still pretty good! Sides were also good. Together it was a bit pricey (would love some combo meals on the menu) but it lasted a few meals for us so it wasn't too bad. Quick turnaround on the carryout, too! read more

I stopped in for take out and was surprised they weren't busy for a Friday afternoon at lunchtime. I waited for the guy to finish on the phone and he took my order at the counter. I just wanted some meat. Maybe some burnt ends and a side of meat. I settled on the wings. I knew the ends come sauced and was prepared but I got my hopes up too high that they would be salvageable. Took them home and gave them a rinse in hot water. It was ok. I ate them. It's the fat and protein I needed for my macros today but urg. Personal preference, I don't like BBQ sauce. It's all too sweet. Good burnt ends are incredible. Dry rub and the fat keeps the chucks juicy and flavorful. Depending on a sauce is just a short cut. IMO. The wings are fantastic. Smoky, crispy with the flavor all the way thru to the bone. I would recommend the wings. Not so much the burnt ends unless you like A LOT of sauce. There's no getting around it. read more

The service was wonderful! Had the original smashburger with sweet potato fries and a Coke. Very juicy, cooked perfect, and big!! The atmosphere is comfortable, but there's an overbearing smell of smoke in the air at times. The menu could please practically anyone that loves meat and their dessert menu looked delicious but I was too full to get dessert - I wanted the banana pudding.. This place deserves 100/10 stars. This is the best restaurant my husband and I have been to in a while. Everything we got was delicious, and I mean everything. Best food ever. Our waiter Eric and the 2 hostesses (a young female with glasses and a younger gentleman )were so friendly. We had our 10 month old, it felt so comfy and non judgmental, every staff member stopped to talk to her and smile! Eric never asked if we needed a drink just brought it before we were ever empty, he was quick and definitely cared for each table the same. The owner came and talked with us and it seemed like he stopped at every table to check on them and converse a bit. Gosh even the bathroom was clean and didn't smell! Plus the place was so well decorated, such a great vibe and for the theme as well. I have not ONE negative thing to say about this place. We will be back and telling everyone about this place. This restaurant goes above and beyond with their service. After dining in with my family last weekend my dad had an unexpected medical emergency at the table. The owner and his staff reacted fast calling 911 and helped us through a stressful situation while the medical personnel arrived within minutes. They stayed with us on the sidewalk as EMS loaded my dad into the ambulance checking on his condition. The restaurant made sure to take our info following up the very next day on how he was doing (everyone was so concerned about him including the owner, staff & kind customers) and since we never got to eat our meals we had ordered they personally drove our 4 meals from Chelsea to our home in Pinckney and hand delivered them to my dad. We came here on New Year's Eve for dinner. We stayed at the Chelsea Inn which is just a few steps away from this restaurant. It was 4 of us and we wanted to eat a big meal bc we were gonna party that night, perfect place to eat comfort food and tasty cocktails. I ordered the fried pickles to start off, my friend ordered an old fashioned with Traverse City Peach, it was YUMMY and sophisticated, so happy I tried a few too. I also ordered the Southwest Chicken Salad with Barbecue Ranch. It was so fresh and tasty and the chicken was soft and delicious. My hubby ordered the burnt ends which I ended eating half of it because it was so good tender and hot. There are several 6 or 8 different sauces on the table to try from, which is pretty cool! They have one that was Dr. Pepper and being from Texas I actually did like it! We also ordered the macaroni cheese side which was pretty good size to share between the two of us, it was BOMB! Couldn't stop eating it! Perfect texture and tasty cheesy just darn right! Our friends ordered the brisket which Brussels sprouts and macaroni cheese, they loved it! Phil came over to our table and checked in on us we told him this was our first time here and he spent a really good amount of time talking and laughing with us. We found a Gem! First time here and I can guarantee it will not be our last. We spend New Year's Eve in Chelsea with friends and stayed at the Victorian Inn near by. We needed dinner before our Mascaraed party so we decided to walk here from our Bed and Breakfast, boy were we glad we did. The entire night was amazing! We met Phil and he just made the night more fun. The staff was on point with service and the food was really good it hit the spot. My wife enjoyed their cocktails and we had a great time. I found Smokehouse 52 as I was exploring Chelsea and Dexter Michigan. It is downtown Chelsea in a cool up to date refurbished spot. To my surprise, they had fresh-brewed sweet tea made in- house! Major points from this Alabamian! I went with the 2 meat platter and chose pulled pork, brisket, Mac and cheese, and the waiter recommended the beans. There was an upcharge for brisket. The pulled pork and brisket were both delicious with their smokiness and tenderness. The mac and cheese seems to be what Smokehouse 52 is known for and the hype is warranted! Superb Mac and cheese! The beans had a sweet taste to then and had pieces of apple mixed in. There are 5 sauces - All-American (mild tomato base), Carolina Gold, Kiss and Vinegar, Root Beer, and Hot! I enjoyed the Gold and Vinegar and I might have enjoyed the others, but the other 3 tasted like they were rurnt! It tasted like the ketchup base in them had gone bad. The bottles looked like they were just stocker so I'm confused. But beware. Besides the sauce ordeal, I enjoyed Smokehouse 52 and would return. read more

We were there for dinner before a show at the Purple Rose. 5 ish o'clock. Not very busy. Ordered brisket burnt ends app. It came out fast and near room temperature. I could feel the congealed grease in my mouth. Sent it back for a warm up. Then my soup and a side of collard greens came out lukewarm. Both went back for a warm up. Wife's platter of pulled pork and some ribs was also below optimal temp but weren't sent back. The ribs were overdone and dry. Won't be back here too soon. read more

My husband and I stopped in for lunch. We split an order of the smoked wings and I chose a Burnt End Melt with the Brussels Sprouts as a side. I liked the smoked wings. They were really juicy and had a pronounced smoky flavor. They were in desperate need of salt, but once that was added, the wings were delicious. I really like the Parmesan dipping sauce, as it complemented the flavor of the smoky chicken nicely. I was less happy with my sandwich. They were really skimpy on the meat (see accompanying photo). The flavor was there, however, the overall sandwich seemed a bit dry. This is not something I would order again. Loved the Brussels sprouts, which were cooked perfectly. They had a nice tang, and the bacon lardons were a yummy accompaniment. For dinner later, we ordered spare ribs and a side of mac and cheese to go. The spare ribs were ok, though not spectacular. While the meat was juicy, I wasn't impressed with their dry rub. I did like their original flavor of barbecue sauce. Even though I don't normally add sauce to my ribs, these needed it due to the lack of punch in the rub. I did like the mac and cheese. It's creamy and rich (even re-heated), and would order this again. This is really a 3 1/2 star review, but I rounded up because we had really good service. read more

Always a good meal here. They are pricey but the burnt ends should be a requirement on any trip. So good! My daughter got the chicken sandwich and liked it a lot, which is saying a lot because she's very picky about her chicken. We have liked every bbq meat there. Sausage is the least favorite but still good. On this last trip I got the chicken and waffles and it was amazing. I'm dreaming of those cinnamon sugar waffles and bourbon syrup still. Met my friend here today for a girls lunch. She is gluten free so choices were limited in Chelsea. I must say i was not excited about this place,because I am not a big barbecue fan. My family loves this place. There's something on the menu for everyone. I've been here solo and I've been here with groups and every time everyone's a big fan. I think the fried chicken is certainly the best thing they have their they drizzle it with honey, the chickens, tender and moist in the batter is Krispy Krunchy delicious. Was in the area with buddies exploring Michigan and was craving a nice meal to end the trip with. We ended up looking for top places to eat at on Yelp and found this place. Nothing entirely bad about this place. To preface this review about why I'm giving it 3 stars instead of 5 is because we ended up having a full blown conversation at our table after ordering (and almost immediately receiving drinks and our appetizers shortly after ordering) while waiting for our main dishes to come out. We had an amazing server, she was friendly, helpful and non-stop working. We ended up having to wait nearly 45 minutes between the time we got our appetizers to the time our food came out. Our server apologized that it was taking so long. I can understand waiting a considerable amount of time for food in a busy restaurant but however, we saw tables around us being sat and ordering and receiving food and leaving and then we thought something must've been wrong. The food was great, I had the Burnt Ends Melt and it was one of the best melts I've ever had. The fries here were also good, crispy and flavorful (potato and pickle). My buddies also enjoyed their food. Meat was tender, juicy, and had enjoyable pockets of fattiness. The smokehouse mac & cheese was actually the best thing in my opinion. I was so disappointed when the closer location in Saline closed but went to the Chelsea with a friend. I would highly recommend the potato chips and dip appetizer, the warm cream cheese and onion dip is so good. We both hot white sangria and they were tasty with the fruit soaked through. We both chose the pick two meats with me picked the pulled pork and pulled chicken and she picked the pulled pork and pulled brisket. In all honesty, she picked the better meats. I had the macaroni and cheese and the green beans with tomatoes as sides as well as the corn muffins from Chelsea Milling right down the street. The service here is always great - the staff have always been attentive and kind. When I come to Smokehouse 52, I'm usually specifically there for the Main Street Mac. I've ordered it 3-4 different times and each time it has come out drastically different (once without the onion dip, once loaded to the brim with onion dip, once with bbq sauce on it, and once with significantly less meat and more macaroni. However, all were delicious in their own way. The Pig Mac has an odd ratio of ingredients - too messy for a sandwich and the bread gets mushy so quickly. Smokehouse Shepherd's Pie is not great - it doesn't have much flavor and the vegetables inside were overly chewy. I'll still come here as there are a few more items I'm interested in trying on the menu, but if there were other BBQ options in Chelsea, I probably would not be here as frequently. read more
