Sauces All-American, Carolina Gold, Kiss and Vinegar, Root Beer, Hot

I found Smokehouse 52 as I was exploring Chelsea and Dexter Michigan. It is downtown Chelsea in a cool up to date refurbished spot. To my surprise, they had fresh-brewed sweet tea made in- house! Major points from this Alabamian! I went with the 2 meat platter and chose pulled pork, brisket, Mac and cheese, and the waiter recommended the beans. There was an upcharge for brisket. The pulled pork and brisket were both delicious with their smokiness and tenderness. The mac and cheese seems to be what Smokehouse 52 is known for and the hype is warranted! Superb Mac and cheese! The beans had a sweet taste to then and had pieces of apple mixed in. There are 5 sauces - All-American (mild tomato base), Carolina Gold, Kiss and Vinegar, Root Beer, and Hot! I enjoyed the Gold and Vinegar and I might have enjoyed the others, but the other 3 tasted like they were rurnt! It tasted like the ketchup base in them had gone bad. The bottles looked like they were just stocker so I'm confused. But beware. Besides the sauce ordeal, I enjoyed Smokehouse 52 and would return.

Burnt End Melt - Super Skimpy on the Meat!

My husband and I stopped in for lunch. We split an order of the smoked wings and I chose a Burnt End Melt with the Brussels Sprouts as a side. I liked the smoked wings. They were really juicy and had a pronounced smoky flavor. They were in desperate need of salt, but once that was added, the wings were delicious. I really like the Parmesan dipping sauce, as it complemented the flavor of the smoky chicken nicely. I was less happy with my sandwich. They were really skimpy on the meat (see accompanying photo). The flavor was there, however, the overall sandwich seemed a bit dry. This is not something I would order again. Loved the Brussels sprouts, which were cooked perfectly. They had a nice tang, and the bacon lardons were a yummy accompaniment. For dinner later, we ordered spare ribs and a side of mac and cheese to go. The spare ribs were ok, though not spectacular. While the meat was juicy, I wasn't impressed with their dry rub. I did like their original flavor of barbecue sauce. Even though I don't normally add sauce to my ribs, these needed it due to the lack of punch in the rub. I did like the mac and cheese. It's creamy and rich (even re-heated), and would order this again. This is really a 3 1/2 star review, but I rounded up because we had really good service.

    Brisket Chili

Our server was quick and efficient, checking in with us often and clearing plates promptly. My Brisket Chili was delicious and flavorful. The Cobb salad was fantastic. I especially enjoyed the smoked chicken which added just a little bit extra. Nice interior, not too loud, full bar, good eats!

    Chips and Dip

Great Service! Food was fantastic! Love the chips and cheese dip! My favorite is when the top layer is burnt.

The hot mess potato is back! The food is always pretty good but that was my favorite. It was off the menu for a long time but it is so good with the pulled pork, beans, cheese and sour cream. I like this better than the common grill across the street.

    Cornbread, and the pork sandwich.

Smokehouse 52 has amazing cornbread and an amazing, tasty, and delicious pork sandwich.

To go boxes because the portions are so big you can take it home and have another meal later

I needed breakfast since these procedures tend to start so early in the morning. The choices were slim and it was either a McDonald's or a coney. A Coney will win every time so here's how it went! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right off the main drag in Chelsea is this gem. It's right next to a McDonald's, but this place was pretty busy and I was very happy to see that. There is a private parking lot where you can put your fly ride and even spaces around the back. There's also outdoor seating for the couple of months where there's nice weather here in Michigan. Inside is your typical diner and exactly what I expected. Service: The server never gave me her name, but it's all good. She was patient with me, gave me good recommendations and made sure I had everything that I needed. When you're done eating you do have to get up and go pay on your own at the front. Food: For breakfast I went with the Greek Scrambler. It consists of gyro meat, feta cheese, mushrooms and scrambled eggs. I added green onions for a bit more crunch. On the side I upgraded my toast to the Cinnamon Swirl Toasts. Everything was pretty good, but I did find myself adding a bit of salt and pepper to the scramble. However the Cinnamon Swirl Toast was excellent. Perfect as is. Value: This diner felt pricy, but maybe it was just me. My tall glass of orange juice was $3.79. That's basically the price of a whole container... but no matter. The Greek Scrambler started off at $12.99, but to add a topping of ANY KIND, it's $1.49 so that was for the green peppers. To upgrade to the Cinnamon Swirl Toast was another $1.99. So when it's all said and done, I came out $21.47. Seems steep for a diner breakfast, but aye, this place was packed so people must swear by it! I... guess I could too. I did like my food and a few of my friends actually said they like it there too and that they've never had a bad meal there. That says a lot! Check this place out if you're in the area.
