OK, this must be Terra Lindas hidden gem, who knew the hidden between the structures of Northgate Mall is this oasis! A completely outdoor venue where the staff works out of a series of cargo containers is a very cool concept. I went here today because Samantha from Club Pilates a neighbor nearby had a Pilates and pints event ! I'm so happy she organized this and I'm pleased with myself I showed up. After our outdoor workout next-door on the Astroturf, we were invited to appetizers! I looked over the menu, which had some wonderful pint choices from all around the region, but I ended up choosing the rosé slushy ! Yes, it's an adult icee and it's superb ! Never pretty good variety of items on their menu their wedge fries come with an chipotle, awesome dish dipping sauce and the hummus and the olives, especially on the Mediterranean platter were outstanding! Super Duper bonus you can bring your pups along so maybe the next one should be a pups and pints ! Also live music you can check their website for the calendar. I've grown to like Ounces after two dozen visits since they opened. They've really leveled up: from food that's gone from "just surviving" to "passable," to a magnificent shade structure that makes sitting outside on a hot day feel civilized. Bonus points for the big North Gate lawn where my kids can run feral while I enjoy a cold one in peace. So why only 3 stars? Two reasons: 1. The service. When it's crowded, say a private party or fundraiser, it's like watching molasses pour uphill. They simply don't staff up enough, so ordering means committing to a glacially slow line. At the recent CanDo fundraiser, I had to order two beers at a time just to survive the wait. 2. The beer selection. For a place that's built around beer, the lineup is safe to the point of boring. Pond Farm, Original Pattern... rinse, repeat. Solid, sure, but I'd love to see them branch out with some rarities or funky one-offs I can't already grab elsewhere. In short: a great hangout spot that keeps improving, but if they could speed up the lines and spice up the taps, Ounces could be five stars instead of three. read more

I hope to see the food menu expand more in the future. - The customer service was excellent and attentive throughout the experience. - Very welcoming, family-friendly, and dog-friendly atmosphere. - Nice and clean patio area - Lots of parking - Other people in my party said the Gowan's Spiced Cider and San Rafael Lager were good. Could use improvement: - The bathroom situation. Ounces does not have restrooms, so you must go into the mall to use theirs. Several group members didn't know where the closest ones were in the mall, so they went to the food court, which is quite the trek when you're full of beer. - The selection of non-alcoholic drinks could use some work. I didn't want a non-alcoholic IPA or Kolsch--yikes--but I would have loved some kind of mocktail. I wound up with sodas instead. read more

What ounces did to the space between the main Northgate Mall structure and Kohl's is nothing short of amazing. Malls are generally fairly devoid of charm; the nearly abandoned Northgate, particularly so. But between the concrete blocks of empty stores sits Ounces Outdoors, a lush garden space where locals can eat, drink, socialize with dogs and kids, listen to live music, play bocce, cornhole, or join in on quiz night. When Ounces first put up signs announcing impending construction of the beer garden, the sign prominently declared the new space would be "dog friendly." So it was inevitable that we would eventually find ourselves there--especially after I read on Yelp that Ounces is also particularly kid friendly. It was busy enough on a Wednesday night that we made space at our picnic table for waiting diners (voluntarily! No pressure from staff). Many--most? tables had a dog present. It happened to be quiz night. I haven't done a pub quiz in ages (not to brag, but I might have once brought my team to victory in a sudden death overtime round with the winning answer of "vitameatavegemin" in a South Bay sports bar). I felt unprepared with only one other adult, two kids, and a dog as teammates, but the Kittie Cats (seven-year old's choice) didn't place too badly in the two rounds we could stay for. This is definitely an un-intimidating, inclusive kind of quiz atmosphere. My daughters thought the menu was perfect--basically a choice of hot dogs. I wouldn't mind a bit of a more extensive menu, but it worked. I would like if there were more appetizers (fries even?) or sweets to extend the meal so I could entice my kids to stay for the whole quiz. read more

Interesting experience - group of us met up during trivia night and we got lost in conversation losing track of time. I only had their Lavender drink (non-alcoholic) which was delicious. This is a go up to the bar and order your own food/drink so no real table service. Staff were extremely pleasant and definitely the ambiance was really nice. Sometimes the trivia part (we were not playing) was really loud so had a hard time hearing each other BUT it was a nice crowd and definitely not enough to downgrade any rating! read more

I have thrown 2 events here & each time the customer service cannot be beat. Truly stellar. Never a moment where I felt I was an inconvenience. They were always so accommodating with letting me bring in my own decor and essentially make a mess. THEIR TENT IS UP! And so happy for this amazing mom and pop business because they deserve for everyone to flock on over no matter the weather. Also I don't even drink (or eat meat for that matter) but the veggie dog with all those grilled onions is seriously on point. Honestly, I cannot rave enough about how welcoming and lovely Ounces is. The kids also played bocce and tossed bean bags. We got the festbeer, Owl Capone (hazy IPA), and the chocolate stout. We each liked our beers. For food, we tried the meze plate, steak and mushroom pie, brat, guacamole, and the kids' grilled cheese. The children liked their sandwiches, and the hummus tasted great. The pie had a nice flavor with juicy fillings and a flakey exterior. The brat sausage on the warm bread was savory, umami, and delicious. Ounces Outdoors is a new brewpub option by the open plaza between Kohl's and the mall. We went there a week ago and were impressed with the live music and great beer options. They have local IPA's and a few food options, all in a modern outdoor patio. There are a few fire pits and even a bocce ball court adjacent the brewpub. The guacamole is delish. On Friday & Saturday nights this summer they have had live music with some great local musicians and even a few "names" you will recognize. It has a laid back and friendly vibe. It's like going to Sonoma without the drive. What more can you ask? We're loving this great addition to the Marin brewing and music scene. read more

Even though the menu is small they have a wide variety of food and alcoholic drinks. I wish they had a few more non-alcoholic selections. I haven't met a server I haven't liked. Everyone is very accommodating. Trivia night Wednesdays are great and attract a fun crowd. They have had several great local bands as well as comedy. One star for the local beer and one for the service from most* of the staff. Out of the tree times I have been here, in all three there have been issues with finding seating under shade but this last time was the worst. Our party of 4 arrived on a Saturday afternoon and found seats under an umbrella only to have the staff move it to cover a party of 2 because one of them was in partial sun. They moved it to the point where now 3/4 people in our party were completely in the sun. The staff member then told us that the shade would move to us soon (but couldn't have said that to the other people?) This experience left us feeling like the owners cater to the older Marin crowd.
