Tasty Indian curry and cauliflower here are our go to near by Indian place. As in some garlic naan and we are good for a few meals. Ordered chicken tikka masala which comes with a side of rice, and a naan for pickup. The place can sit 120 people but there were only 2. This had already set the bar pretty low for me. Once I arrived back home and served myself some dinner, I felt the food tasted below average. The chicken tikka masala was bland, it lacked spices and salt. At the same time, the chicken was kind of stiff. It took some effort to break bite size pieces from the chunk, which made me feel that it's probably not fresh as well. The naan was ok. The rice was cooked very well, but at most of the restaurants I feel chefs add some salt to rice to give it some flavor, but this rice was also bland which just made the whole curry and rice experience pretty bad. I love this place! Sometimes it doesn't look open and I haven't eaten inside but the food is fantastic. We only ever order the goan fish curry, butter chicken, lamb korma, jalfrezi, rogan Josh or vindaloo but I've never had a bad one. You can add your preferred spice level to all the dishes Anna everything comes with basmati. My husband and daughter love the samosas here (I find them a tiny bit spicy but good with sour cream) naan is also delicious and now I'm hungry writing this review. They are at the Cambrian Plaza area of union (near Luckys) so a bit further away than our closer Los Gatos Indians but worth it and they are open all day (where our more local ones are closed between two and five) so worth the journey across town. read more

The buffet on a weekday was awesome! Never tried this restaurant because it is tucked away in a average looking strip mall. Pretty classy on the inside and more importantly the food was being made fresh and was being reloaded fresh to which is key to a good buffet. My favorites with the tandoori chicken, the kidney beans, with rice, shahi paneer, and the pakoras. Naan was think and fresh too. The tikka masala and chicken curry were okay. But just to have fresh food like this which is unlimited is a great deal. I don't think you should like every item or even eat every item in the buffet but just to have a few items that are amazing is usually a great deal and rangoli does just that! What is up with this place? The naan we received was literally uncooked. We had to cook it ourselves in the toaster oven. Please avoid....

We placed an order for my Company today, I ordered four individual meals that were the same thing. And what the restaurant chose to do without discussing it with anybody was to combine all the orders and make it a tray to eat family style. And this is completely unacceptable. It is not their place to decide how each individual person wants their meals nor is it disrespectful to force people to have to share meals. Along with that where we charged individually or did they charge us for a tray. I did see the receipt, but again it is not their place by any stretch of the imagination to make decisions on their own for a pain client. In the past, I've had problems with this restaurant and I can guarantee you that I will never ever ever go back to this place again and if anybody reads this review, I discourage you to go to this restaurant forever. Rangoli India Restaurant at 3695 Union Ave, San Jose, CA 95124 has been around for 25 years and was one of my favorite hot spots prior to Covid. Recently, I went and had their buffet and was amazed at the selection of food. Tandoori Chicken, Tikka Masala, Egg Curry, Aloo Cabbage, Padeer Kalai Wala, and the list goes on. I must say the server was very attentive and brought me fresh hot Naan bread. The dessert selection was 2 of my favorites; Mango Pudding and Rice Pudding. I ordered Chai Tea (extra cost) which was amazing. Everything I ate was perfectly cooked and was delicious. Now I found the restaurant to be very clean with a good separation of tables. The carpet had been recently vacuumed and each buffet item had its own seperate warmer with a lid. However, it is an older restaurant and some of the tables and hallways really showed their wear. One issue that seems to show up in other reviews was the staff is not friendly. I did not experience that. From the moment I arrived I was greeted by a young lady, and the server was very polite and attentive. Yes, I was thanked when I paid the bill. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this restaurant! I used to love to go to Rangoli for many years, especially for the lunch buffet. However, recently, upon going to the restaurant I noticed that it was very dark inside and there were no customers, which is always a bad sign. Upon asking for the lunch buffet that they always used to have (minus during the time of the covid pandemic) I was told they no longer offer the lunch buffet... This is a bummer because their a la carte portions are often hit or miss, as there have been several times where I've gone and I was mostly served sauce (which isn't worth it in my humble opinion). Well butter my naan and drown me in some butter chicken curry, I can't believe I haven't written a yelp review for Rangoli. This Indian restaurant used to have a buffet before I almost ran them out of business by taking "all you can eat" too literally. Just kidding it was COVID. But now from the comfort of my bed I can order uber eats and have a feast of the same. My go to is the chicken tikka masala (spicy) for $18 and I get through maybe 2/3 of it before I get full and keep a treat for later. They splash around 10 large boneless chunks of tandoori chicken in the large puddle of flavorful curry. Huge portions and delicious, if you're trying to figure out where the butter chicken is, this is it. Did I mention they give you a box of rice for free as well? But wait, there's more! I decided to step out of my butter chicken comfort zone and try the lamb korma. I may be as white as the rice they include, but my taste buds have been enlightened. Really good weekday lunch buffet meals. There are usually 5 vegetarian and 5 non vegetarian curries. They also bring fresh naans to the table. Gulab jamoon and kheer for the desserts are extra like the icing on the cake. Included in the $19 lunch buffet but all of them are good. read more

Very quiet restaurant, no music I was here at 3pm and there was no foot traffic. (It was Monday to be fair) I have Been here only once before and the taste has been consistent. Chicken was very tender and the masala had a rich tomato taste with a blend of spices. Very addicting taste. Garlic naan was cooked perfectly and had a great subtle taste of garlic, not too over powered. Will definitely be returning Pricing was not bad especially for the huge portions. We arrived to Rangoli this afternoon to find that the usual lunch buffet is no more. Disappointed, we decided to stay to try the table service and regular menu. Unfortunately, the solo server seemed to be new, confusing the lamb masala and the madras lamb more than once. After waiting 30(!) minutes for lunch for our table of 6, 2 of which ordered the lamb masala, we got up to find our poor server had made a mistake and mis-ordered the lamb, which delayed everyone's meal. One of our party had to leave to go back to work, and we asked the server to package her lamb to go. She couldn't wait any longer, and left without eating. A couple of minutes later, everyone's food arrived to the table, but alas, no naan or rice for at least 5 more minutes. The shrimp appetizer that one of us ordered was overcooked and dry, and the naan was almost cracker-like, rather than soft, as it should have been. The food was all hot, which we appreciated but we were now almost 50 minutes past when we ordered. Our overwhelmed server, with just 2-3 additional tables to ours, never checked on us after serving us, and after watching another diner go to the counter to ask for their check and some other patrons wait several minutes to be acknowledged, one of our party finally had to get up to ask for the check as well. We waited another 5-10 minutes for the check and finally got it when we all got up to go to the counter. They had no plastic utensils for our to-go order for our co-worker, to make things more ridiculous. This server seemed to be running a one man show, perhaps he was also cooking the food? Shame on Rangoli for putting an employee in this position. Unfortunately we will not be returning any time soon. read more

Rangoli used to have a great lunch buffet. COVOD put an end to that but, the restaurant is back and has lunch specials served as a sampler with a main course, naan, a sweet (dessert), a lentil, a salad and another veggie dish. I had the lamb tiki masala. My friend has lamb saag. The flavors were wonderful. Rich aromatic but not over done. Generous portions. A complete and very satisfying meal. The service is a 4.3 too. We miss the buffet but were very happy and will be returning. read more

The health standards here may be questionable according to other reviews but the food here is quite a standout for Northern Indian cuisine I went with the Shahi Paneer and found it to be spiced well and the curry to be quite good, ordered extra spicy and was not disappointed. The Malai Kofta was rich but the actual koftas themselves could have been a bit better cooked. The naan was cooked very well and wasn't too bready Would add this to the roster read more

A regular here before pandemic closure. They continued orders pickup only afterwards and finally open to include seating 2024 (?). So hubby & I gave it a try (dinner hour) and now understood why it remained mostly order pickups. Service is at its worst, waited very long time before asked for service and then a long time before food was served. We were the only ones in restaurant; no excuse. When it came, all came at once; good cause we were starving. Hubby didn't like the chicken tikka masala; he thinks recipe changed, too sweet for him. I was hungry so that change didn't phased me. All in all food was good enough, but sometimes the ambiance and service completes the whole eatery experience to better ratings. It's been a minute since I've been to this place, but I had a doctor appointment in the area and figured I would stop by for their lunch buffet. I was there around 1 pm and the place was empty! We have eaten at Rangoli many times in the "before times" (before COVID), and always enjoyed it. This was our first visit since the pandemic started and I am happy to report that the food is still delicious. Unfortunately, they are only doing take out now and the prices are much more expensive (lunch cost $87 for 4 dishes with some sides). Paneer Saag Walla ($16) : A good spinach and cheese dish, well executed. Chicken Tikka Masala ($17): A favorite (even if it is really English and not Indian). Very tasty. Lots of great sauce with chicken chunks. Although I thought that the chicken chunks were a bit dry; however, after cutting them up to smaller pieces and smothering them in the sauce, it was very good. Lamb Korma ($20): Fantastic! I highly recommend this. An extremely flavorful sauce with tender lamb chunks. Tandoori Chicken ($17): Nicely done and very flavorful. Naan ($2.50 for two pieces) Raita ($5): nice and tangy. Basmati rice was included in the price of each entrée. Also included (without extra charge) were two chutneys: green and red (sweet tamarind). Overall an enjoyable and filling lunch. Never order using the delivery provider Rangoli suggests on their website. We ordered and some items were missing both from the hand-written receipt and the order itself. I called afterwards, but they wouldn't give a refund for the missing items unless I drove over with the written receipt (40 minutes round trip), and seemed to claim the delivery driver took it, which seems unlikely unless the delivery driver rewrote the receipt. Food is tasty as always, but this is the second or third order in a row where items have been missing. At least with the other more major delivery providers the missing item refund process is more straightforward. read more

Rangoli is an attractive and sparkling clean Indian restaurant on the corner of Union and Woodard. Parking is a breeze. The lunch buffet is ample and most of it was quite tasty. We found five chicken dishes! There were two selections of rice, one was lemon-flavored. We arrived at one and were a bit disappointed that the serving platters were quite empty. The potato/onion platter was never refilled which was disappointing because it's a favorite of mine. The rice platter had also not been refilled when I went for a bit more. The nan is delicious and the butter chicken and tandoori were great. The three attendants were all young men and they were not at all happy to be there and were not welcoming.. The attendant in charge of filling the platters was remiss. Maybe the restaurant needs to work on this aspect. read more
