This Indian store is a lot bigger than I ever expected. They carry fresh produce, a massive lineup of snacks, all sorts of prepackaged foods. I checked out tea selection. They had some teas where I had good experiences many years ago. Who knows what has happened in since then. The expiration dates ranged from a few months from today to two years in the future. Check the expiration dates before you purchase. To my ignorant eyes, I couldn't even guess at the identity of 98% of the items. I did recognize a few items which I've had before. They seem to be part of most Indian meals and they're quite delicious. Unfortunately, the carb count is so high that I can't really eat them anymore. The size of the store is big enough that there is an array of each product so you have great selection. I couldn't tell if the prices were high or low so I took a bunch of pictures and you can decide for yourself. The kitchen area seems super well stocked. I recognized a spice/coffee/peppermill. I actually purchased this. It was a total disaster. The brand was kinjal. It was completely unable to grind peppercorn. I tried grinding oregano . No dice. Since the item cannot be returned, I am stuck with recycling it. I recognize a press. I would have guessed it was a tortilla press, but I doubt that was it. I have just purchased a tortilla press. The only drawback was mine is bigger and more suited to what I want. I recognized the mortar and pestles.. They were made of heavy stone and I didn't recognize what it was made of. But the price is sure better than the marble mortar and pestle that I purchased 40 years ago. I saw something that looked like a wok. It was so large that there is no possible way for me to heat that thing. To me the only way to handle a wok that big would have to be a bonfire. Also, who the heck makes that much food. I think this is an implement that is most useful for a restaurant. There was an array of copper products. Pure copper. Hand hammered. The price was amazing, but I don't really need these items. I reluctantly passed them by. But the prices were astonishingly low for copper. Now copper has antimicrobial properties so I felt higher confidence in performance than rival products made of glass or stainless steel. If you let copper form the reddish brown patina, the patina is more durable and has higher antimicrobial activity than pure copper. This is the reason why copper pipes command such a high price and last longer than other materials. For now it's time for me to acquire an Indian cookbook so I can have a shot at recognizing at least some of the ingredients. Like many Asian stores cleanliness was certainly not the highest priority. The floor was faintly grubby, although the products didn't have any dust or dirt. But an enormous number of products had no expiration dates so who knows. But based on my experience with the teas I decided I would not pick up spices here. They do have a section with whole spices and powdered but Indian cooking seems to have shifted to pre-milled spice packets. I certainly appreciate this convenience. It also means I have a shot at recognizing the mix. I did not eat any of the prepared foods. Most of them looked carb high and oily. I have problems tolerating both so it was a hard pass for me. I ended up buying an assortment of kitchen implements which filled some of the holes in my collection. That's pretty impressive since my collection is extensive. Since my alternative source is Amazon the prices were reasonable. Service was snappy and I paid for my item in about in a few minutes. Since the equipment cannot be returned they were meticulous about inspecting items before allowing me to inspect it myself. read more

Having a store in the neighborhood is great. They carry stuff for restaurants as well as a lot of decorative and festival items that are good but charge a premium. Where they could improve is the approach to selling expired products and also removing the expiry dates. When I showed them that multiple items were expired the cashier said they will be removing the expiry dates due to a California law. There is no law that says expiry dates need to be removed. There are sell by dates. But to say that expiry dates are not relevant is rather strange. Most Indians in the neighborhood are aware of this being the situation with the store and avoid it. If the manager can stop removing expiry dates and also keep only unexpired inventory more folks will start shopping there instead of other nearby Indian grocery stores. read more

Very bad experience at this store. They sell rotten fruits and vegetables. Nothing appears to be fresh. I once returned a packet of rotten pre cut bitter guard. I assumed they must have worked on the feedback given and yet when I visited the store today I saw the same quality of fruits and vegetables that were completely rotten. It's a decent store to grab Indian products but the so called fresh food buffet is horrible. We once got malai kofta and it was sooooo bad that had to trash it . It tased like packed food with preservatives. It had stale oil taste and smell to it . The koftas were made from bread and it was overall not appetizing at all ! By far the worst Indian food I have ever tried not just in the Bayarea but ever in the US ! This place just opened but it is unorganized, dirty and extremely unsanitary. Numerous times I have noticed worker /employees with no shoes and barefoot walking around. See pictures for evidence. They serve food here, this is quite disgusting. Serious question: has the health department checked this place? The quality of the food - fresh and packaged, is questionable. Many foods are old, expired and stale. I've been here multiple times and was shocked each time. I also walk by here and see nothing changes. It seems the majority of the positive reviews are from family members and people who work there. I would be careful here. I will definitely not be returning here. read more

What's a nice surprise when I walk in to a front door, as I am with good feeling to find out the place is awesome. From dries good to spices , vegetables products and original decorations from India make me like a kid in candy store. Horrible, dirty store. STAY AWAY! Pav bun that expires 2 months from now had a lot of fungus on it when opened. Bun is from Frontier Bakery. When we called the store, instead of apologizing or offering store credit or refund, they were rude and kept saying it's not their fault. They asked me to bring the packet as is with the fungus bun, they will register a complaint with the vendor, oh and also bring a receipt from when I bought 5 days back. When I asked him to check digitally since I paid by card he refused. They need to learn what good customer service is, stock unexpired non spoilt products. Was curious to try this new store - NEVER AGAIN. See reviews below about rats in store - terrible don't go here! UPDATED replying to owner's response The pav bun was NOT expired I have clearly posted the date in one of the pictures too. Hence all the more reason for surprise as the bun had fungus whereas expiry date was 2 months from now. It is called good customer service where you TRUST your customers. Why would you need a physical receipt? why would anyone lie about a $5 bread - you can even easily digitally look up the transaction I was willing to provide you my card number etc. You quoted Costco on the phone with me. Anyone who shops at Costco respects and shops there for their easy lifetime returns. You can't come close to that with this kind of an attitude. Amazing boutique market with a deli counter that sells delicious vegetarian food. It reminds me of Vik's in the 1990's. The samosas were delicious. The black dal curry was happiness in a bowl. The gajar halwa evokes ideas of a gourmet flourless carrot cake. It's amazing. The staff is kind and helpful, as are the other shoppers! There's no need to get on a freeway to have amazing food. This store has opened very recently. The groceries selection is decent, but that's really where the good stops. The kitchen and the cooked food is extremely questionable and unhygienic. Staff is unaware of what food they have. Their pricing of the cooked food is also upto whatever the person feels like charging, despite the fact that the prices are kind of listed near the food counter. It's impossible to call them and have them pick the phone. At any point in the store there are not more than 5 customers, but all the employees seem to be super busy and unavailable to answer the phone. The staff and seemingly the owner adds a cherry on top of this all. They are rude, unhelpful, arrogant, impolite, cold and pretending as if they're doing a service to me when I am buying stuff from their store. Note: of all the different staff members and owner I've seen there, one guy from Southern India who works on the weekend, and another woman also seemingly from Southern India are the sweetest employees I've ever seen. A dangerous place to shop! Most of their stuff is expired (don't take my word for it; check for yourself!) I bought a box of tea from the store and when I took it home; i discovered it was going to expire in 5 days. I took it back to the store and showed it to the lady managing the store. Her stunning response: "It is not expired YET!!" So it was on me to consume an entire box of tea in 5 days. She even asked me for proof of purchase (receipt) which I obviously didn't have. I went to the tea shelf and as expected, every single box of tea there was about to expire in a matter of days! To be honest, this was not the first time I bought expired stuff from them (Bought stale Gulab Jamuns once and an expired 20 lb bag of rice). I was hoping they'd mend their business practices and carry non-expired merchandize...and now I will never step inside the store again. What a shame! read more

Garuda's in the Cambrian area is a good spot! It's pretty spacious, well-organized, and the prices are reasonable. They also carry a few fun board games that my kids absolutely love, nice surprise for a grocery run. Definitely worth checking out! read more

I have to state that the service at the Garudas Indian Mart N Kitchen San Jose California is very pathetic and poor . The lady staff working at the cash counter is arrogant, extremely rude, non co-operative and has scant respect for the loyal & regular customers of the store . She refused to sell products to me on the flimsy ground that I am returning stale and sub standard stuff sold at the Mart ( Store) . The Food product - snacks, bought a day earlier (had no expiry date) was stale and tasted plastic and was not fit for human consumption. She had the audacity to take away additional fresh products that we brought in the Store (on 5th June 2025) and asked us to leave the Store. This lady who claims to be Manager of the Store , is busy attending to her personal work and has no interest in managing the Store's affairs. Once on asking, she had mentioned that she is working for another Company/ Employer and is busy on the computer. It is generally the persons sitting at the Food Counter who attend to Customers . Today ( on 5th June 2025) also she was sitting on her computer a little distance away, but came to the counter, screaming she cannot accept the valid return of stale products. While we were ready to accept her ill - llogical statements, she went on abusing and told me and my husband that she will not sell us the products which we wanted to buy today and asked us to go away and to not come to the Store at all. This Lady is more busy with her personal assignments and is not interested in the sales of the Store or for that matter extending courtesy to Customers. She probably considers loyal customers coming to the Store as disturbance to her personal work. Please avoid visiting the shop and beware of the Lady staff if you need to protect / save your self respect.... Customers Beware. I am hoping the actual owners of the Store take steps to rectify this serious matter or else it won't be long before this lady's attitude will lead to customers avoiding the store , leading to shutting down the Store permanently. We had been looking forward to another Indian store close to us and gave this place innumerable chances to meet expectations but it has only disappointed us! First, it's been a long time since the store opened and they still haven't really figured out their inventory processes yet. The produce is not fresh and many items are either expired or low quality. Second, they are terribly inconsistent. Items are not always as expected or advertised. Most importantly, their customer service is completely and totally lacking, as you can see the common thread in several other reviews too. They take NO responsibility or accountability for any issues reported and just shift blame to some other entity. This is absolutely inexcusable for us. There are several other Indian stores in the area, better stocked, trustworthy, fresh and reliable inventory and way, way better service. We won't be returning to this one, unfortunately! read more

See the pictures. I discovered multiple insects and flies in the dry fruit tray I bought. When I returned it to the store, the manager showed me another tray from the shelf to suggest that my purchase was an isolated incident, but this tray also had a live crawling insect. Instead of addressing the issue, the manager suggested that the problem was caused by children visiting the store and did not take any responsibility or offer a solution. Just had the sugarcane juice ! So so good :) highly recommend! We do the weekly groceries from here as well . Neat and organized.

The food service is excellent, especially the Paneer and mixed vegetables. We've ordered several times and Vishal and Shruti are exceptionally friendly. The Alphonso mangoes were a favorite, and the Dahi bhalla is outstanding. Extensive range of Indian groceries. I'd give a thumbs up to the place. read more

I really appreciate that we have an Indian store in the area. It's great! But I was super disappointed that food purchased there was low quality. I bought nanak rasmalai boxes and was incredibly disappointed to see that they are frozen. The same item at Costco is cheaper and well maintained. Hope Garuda management get better at handling food and bring up the quality soon. read more

The floors were not clean in every aisle, there were lots of empty boxes stacked up in back, there were hardly any fruit or vegetables, and even those were displayed very haphazard.
