This vineyard is definitely an Italian dominant vineyard more so featuring more reds. The setting and layout was cute inside, with a gift shop on the left of the entrance and register checkout on the right of the entrance. There are dark woods and high ceiling making the atmosphere a bit loud. There is indoor and outdoor settings. Upon entering there was a sign "please wait to be seated", we waited patiently for several minutes and no one had helped us. So we wandered around and no one seemed to know what to do or what was going on. Every single guest/party that came through pretty much did the same and it was quite comical and embarrassing. We finally made our way to a bar and got 3 tastings which were poured all at once and not even explained, which I don't have a problem with, but the place wasn't packed or crazy busy, so she could of at least been a little more helpful. We felt she was a bit rude as well while we asked questions. We took our flights outside to the patio because it was a gorgeous day and got a table. We had gotten a red flight (which included 3 tastings) and we really weren't crazy about any of them. Bummer, because I only drink red, and am not that picky for the most part. The checkout line to buy bottles took forever, as one customer wanted her bottle wrapped for a present and the lady took forever! She rewrapped the bottle 3 times until it was perfect, which was nice, but definitely a bit much considering the line wait. I received a bad bottle of wine after purchasing and the manager was kind enough to send me a new bottle. Much appreciated and great customer service on this front. Thank you! read more

Just left the winery which we saved as our last stop for our Memorial Day weekend getaway and it was an awful experience. Since they had stopped serving wine at 5pm and most customers had left the bar area, my sister and I were looking to order a cheese plate instead. Our server, a salt and peppered haired white male in his 40s was rude, inattentive and perhaps racist. Even though my sister and I look like we're only 18 (we're 27 and 29 yrs old) and we're Indian, we didn't deserve to be treated the way we were. After repeatedly ignoring our "excuse me's" so he can wipe off the bar and stack menus that were lying around, he finally came over and calculated our bill without our asking. Our first time experience in North Fork was awesome (tips from Fodor's and NYMag really helped) and the 4 other wineries we went to were great. We even bought 2 bottles to take home with us and have been talking about plans to return in two weeks to visit some of the places we missed out on this weekend! However we will NEVER return to this place. p.s. Deandra (sp?) the manager was very nice and offered us a free wine tasting to make up for our experience. If you're looking for a scenic, relaxing winery, look no further. Live music on weekends provides a lovely atmosphere, and is wonderful when combined with the views, as well as nicely decorated interior. They have a pretty good selection of wine here, but I prefer to get a bottle of something I know I like, and sit out on the patio area while soaking up the atmosphere. First of all, you don't need me to tell you how beautiful Raphael's Vineyard is .... But I will, its gorgeous. Every inch of this place is picture perfect. Before I can tell you about our wedding I need to tell you about LISA! Lisa was our event coordinator at Raphael's (not sure if that's her exact title) and she is a godsent. From the very beginning she catered to our every need, even knowing what I wanted before I knew what I wanted. She kept in contact with us and always made sure we were doing well along the road to marriage. She contacted all our other vendors beforehand to coordinate and make sure everything was set. She knew exactly want we wanted and executed perfectly. Day of she made sure we didn't have to do a thing! She made sure we had food, drinks, time to dance, essentially, she made sure we got to enjoy the day that was all about us. LETS TALK FOOD...You will never have wedding food this good! Everything is fresh, farm to table ingredients, and will blow your mind delicious. And boy was there plenty of it! Also, Raphael does their wedding a little differently...BUT IT IS WAY BETTER. At Raphael's there is a cocktail hour, a sit-down dinner and then dancing and dessert. None of the up and down between courses stuff. All our guests were raving about it, eat and then party simple! The staff were amazing. My dad was so impressed that they all knew who he and my immediate family were (and I have a big family), their names, and made sure they were taken care of. If you have your wedding at Raphael's I promise you you will need to ask for nothing, they will have what you want in your hand before you can even ask for it. Driving into Raphael was like stepping into Spanish countryside. The interior was nice with all the chandeliers and lights. They also have a patio overlooking the vineyard. On Sundays, they have a live band playing indoors. We did a red wine flight, but for us, we just didn't like most of what we tried. There really wasn't one particular wine that stood out to me the most. I really wanted to love this place because of the rave reviews, but the wines just weren't for me. Also, there was only one server at the bar area so he was busy. He didn't really explain about the wines as much as I had expected like it was at Kontokosta. After 3 years of tastings all over the East End, I FINALLY found the perfect vineyard, enough so that I joined their club and it continues to satisfy me. What makes Raphael different is not it's impressive, Italian monastery-style tasting room, which is beautiful, nor is it the helpful, friendly and knowledgeable staff, which is great. You can find beautiful locales and helpful people all over the east end. No, what sets Raphael aside is the wines, people! This is what's most important. When I first tasted Raphael's cab franc last year, I enjoyed it very much. Raphael is one of the few places on Long Island growing their own Malbec (mostly used in blending with Merlot and Cab Franc but a full label release is coming later this year!). In fact, other than the Chards, I'm pretty sure all of the wines are sourced directly from their own vines, no one else. When tasting the Cab Franc for the first time, I noticed a similarity to Spanish-style wines. The gentleman behind the counter, Scott, smiled and remarked that Raphael is the only vineyard on the east coast using a Spanish-sourced wooden basket press. He offered me a tour of the vineyard and I was hooked! If you like light- to medium-bodied reds, this is the place for you. Their full-bodied reds are ok as well, but sometimes they can get overly complex and many times they're not quite ready to drink. You can always talk with the winemaker, Richard, and he can help you choose a bottle to suit your tastes and assist you with storing it and let you know when it's reeeally ready to drink. read more

A grand setting, designed for spectacular events inside and out. We had gone to smaller, more casual, or hip wineries on the North Fork over several days exploring the wine trail. Though Raphael facility is not our style--nouveau Tuscan villa in America, extremely big--we could see how a wedding or big party here would be impressive if that is your style. As the other reviewers said, it's a beautiful place. We went tonight (Thursday) for the free live music. What fun! The band was "Mambo Loco", a Long Island Latin/Cuban salsa band with great rhythm. We danced and had a great time. Dancing were some students from a dance school. They were so good and fun to watch. I didn't give the full 5 stars because of the prices of the wine. Glasses of wine were quite expensive for what was offered. Some wines were $15 a glass. One complaint: After my husband and I shared a full bottle, (cheaper than buying by glass), I wanted some water and was charged $4 for a small glass of water with ice. Not cool! They should just sell water in bottles for a dollar or two. So do go if Mambo Loco is playing. It's a fun night! read more

Raphael Winery is hands down my favorite on the North Fork! We have gone there several times and we are never disappointed. The wines are delicious and it is always exciting to see what new wines they have in their repertoire. From the moment you walk in, you are taken in by the beautiful decor. It is open and elegant. The staff is super friendly and very knowledgeable about the winery and the wines available. We were so impressed with Raphael that we joined the wine club and have been members for a few years. As part of the wine club, you receive a shipment of wines every quarter. In addition, you are able to attend their Barrel tastings, which occur once a month where you get to sample wines prior to being bottled. In addition, you also get to tour the vineyards and they provide you with an overview of the wine making process and the wines currently in barrels. Very interesting! My friends and I were here past weekend and we were warned by a lady that we bumped into at a different vineyard about how rude Raphael's staff was. We went anyways thinking it wouldn't be too bad. Ohhhh it was bad! I understand they're popular and it's busy. If you get that much business, maybe you should hire more staff behind the counter. The lady who "served" us was inattentive AT ALL. We asked for 3 different wines to taste and 2 of them were white wine. I simply asked which one was the riesling. She did not look at me, turned around and muttered something. It was loud. I had to confirm with my friends who was closer to see what she said. We didn't like the wines either. It was bland. I can't even tell you which ones we had (except for the riesling) since she didn't explain it to us nor did we want to remember what we read. The only nice thing I can say about this place is that the exterior and interior is very nice. Overall.. not a good experience. There are MUCH better vineyards on the strip. read more

I came to this vineyard this past weekend and thought it was super quaint and relaxing. There was live music and beautiful seating both inside and outdoors. We ordered a cheese charcuterie platter which came with Brie, apples, jam, peanuts, crusty bread along with assorted salami, fig. We ordered a Cabernet which was surprisingly fruity with a soft hue, and full body. Went great with the platter. Only downside was staff wasn't very competent at keeping track of orders since we mistakenly got someone else's orders twice and then had to track down our server for our check twice. Sam was a very good private tour guide. Private since no one showed up for a winery tour but us. This place is huge and I can only imagine how amazing it looks when it's filled with grapes! When we went there were only vines. Acres of bare vines. There was a man performing while older, richer-than-me looking men and women were drinking wine and chillin. He played a Neil Young song and it made me want to buy tickets to Neil Young's show, but then the wine kicked in and I forgot all about it. Sam also made sure we were tasting the freshest wine, and when it wasn't, she opened a new bottle. We left with a box of limited edition Merlot from 2000, 2001, and 2002. It happened somehow. You can consider this one of the fancier wineries in the area. Then on to DUCK WALK! back to earth. read more

Went to Raphael for the first time because of the raving reviews. The only agreement I have with those reviews were the ambiance and the wine. The host in the front did not want to talk to anyone unless they had a reservation. She was very loud and not that friendly. If you did have a reservation you were told to fill out information about yourself such as your name, phone number and email but did not explain why. I assume that it had to do with Covid. The host then sat us outside in the blazing hot sun with no umbrella. Another employee came over and asked if we wanted to sit in the shade at a nearby table. There was plenty of empty seating in the shade. The waitress then came over to take our order. She did an excellent job social distancing but we couldn't really hear her and had to repeat ourselves. She also was not very friendly and seemed overwhelmed. When other people got up from the table, they sat new people there without wiping down the seats or the table. I had such high expectations in Raphael but unfortunately it wasn't as amazing as I thought it was going to be. read more

Aside from that, just going for a visit, I found everyone to be very nice and the food and wine to be outstanding. The estate itself was beautiful to walk around, and we had such a nice relaxing time eating, drinking, and listening to the live band they had playing. People were also very nice there. Definitely our favorite place to stop in Long Island wine country. It's one of the more upscale vineyards, with beautiful scenery both inside and out. The building itself looks like something out of old world Spain or Italy. Once inside, you are surrounded with beautiful lighting, seating and decor. Love how the tasting area bars are giant wine barrels. Staff seems very knowledgable of the wines they carry, they also are available in local stores, my favorite so far is the Merlot and Cab Franc. You'll pay a little more for the Raphael wines then some of the Long Island vintages but they are worth the price. We went here last on our way home from a trip to boston, took the ferry back and stopped here on a Thursday early afternoon. Did a few tastings indoors and then got a delicious crusty cibbata bread with eggplant and peppers to dip. Went wonderfully with the wine selections. It was a beautiful sunny day, nice and quiet with not too many visitors, perfect end to our vacation. Next time we go we'll be sure to bring our little Loki since they welcome dogs as long as they're leashed. For anyone looking for a little day getaway this is perfect, for brides to be, if you have a big budget and want that 'something different' look into this place. If I could have afforded it, I would have LOVED to get married here, it is absolutely GORGEOUS but does not come cheap, unless you keep it small and intimate. (We got married the week before we came here). The difference with this place is that they can accommodate the food and decor, where some other wineries just give you the space. This place is a wine lovers dream everything...and you can always bring home a Raphael Vineyard wine glass from the gift shop so you can keep the memories alive! read more

Just came back from this vineyard. We had a lovely time. The place is beautiful. They have a nice light menu that includes cheese/meat boards, and flatbread pizzas. Our friends prefer beer which they do not serve for two reasons; need special license and they don't want to take away business from the local brewery, which I respect. Service was very friendly and they had live music. You can also eat and drink outside overlooking the vineyard on the veranda. read more

Many of their best wines are $15 a glass This is way over the top for a glass. Many good wine bars in the city offer better wines for less. We got a Malbec which was apparently highly rated. Wow! I have been a regular at Raphaels for over 15 years. My daughter got married at the vineyard. For the first time today I took the time to actually read some of the recent reviews. Most of them were very positive, but two in particular were very poor reviews of the vineyard. By looking at the dates of the reviews you can figure out that they were written by people who were in the same group who attended on a particular day. Unfortunately we are living in a period where masks, social distancing have become the "norm." Business owners are under a tremendous pressure to try and survive in this difficult period. They are forced to adhere to state mandates that require them to put into practice rules that were not even imagined 9 months ago. I frequent Raphael now and yes it is a lot different then it was 9 months ago. We have to adjust to the new rules just as the owners have to adjust to them. It has been my experience over the past 15 years that the owners and staff have gone above and beyond to accommodate their guests. They have always treated us like family. The staff has been under tremendous pressure the last few months. Running around with masks on all day from inside the winery to the far reaches of the back seating area in hot weather is a strain to accomplish. This party on that particular day obviously had a problem or didn't understand the new rules. To make it a racial incident is ridiculous. Rules have to be followed by everyone or the business could be shut down and fined. Hopefully in the future all this new rules will be a moot point and we can return to a way of life that we enjoyed in the past. read more

His knowledge was in depth for both wine connoisseurs & first time wine goers. He made the wine world relatable to anyone interested in learning about the craft.
