If you're looking for an absolutely fun, safe, unforgettable "you'll talk about it forever" one-of-a-kind adventure experience, you've gotta try Rappel Maui! We went to Maui to celebrate our son's college grauduation and booked a morning tour with Rappel Maui as part of our day spent exploring the road to Hana. From start to finish, this was a top notch experience: from the incredible guides Shauna and Deacon, who were funny, knowledgeable, professional, supportive (not gonna lie, we wanted to take them with us on the rest of our trip just to keep hanging out); to the fact that they provided everything we needed (shoes, wetsuits, snacks, water, bug spray, backpacks, and of course state of the art safety gear); to the nature of the event itself, which was a well-planned, exhilarating experience that mixes adrenaline, beauty, nature, Hawaiian history, and a barrel of laughs. We had never rappelled before, and this experience exceeded all expectations. We highly recommend - this one left a lasting impression. Shauna and Deacon, we will be back for more!

Alba and Shauna were great, very friendly and kept everyone comfortable and safe. Would recommend to anyone looking for and outdoor adventure. Dress to swim!

One of our fearless leaders, Alba. Like the other two, she was skilled, helpful, friendly and patient.

This was such a unique experience. Most of our group had never rappelled before but the patient and fun staff taught us all. The routes were challenging but doable. Be prepared to get wet. It was well worth the drive to such a beautiful location. I had wanted to Zipline and will do so another time but was glad to have this fun adventure. Alba, Shauna, and Deacon were the best!

Very safe, really fun, definitely a bit scary going over but how often can you say you rappelled over a waterfall in Maui??? Our guides Mike & Shauna were amazing

This was one of the coolest things we have ever done and we have done a lot of things. You have three different places you repel down. The first one is more of a training and preparation. The other two are the reasons to do this. The 1st waterfall you repel alongside the falls. At the bottom you are given the option to jump in the water. The jump in is fun but I will tell you the water is a little chilly. The 2nd waterfall you traverse down through the falls The two gals Alba and Abbie were amazing giving instruction and spunk to the activity. They are totally cool people. I was glad they prepped us for the hike back up. Take a deep breath and get ready for some elevation.

The safety training you get simplifies what at first seems impossible. @Abbie-McCarthy-1 & @Ropheka-Gershom were EXCELLENT!

Ropheka Gershom and Abbie McCarthy were AMAZING! They make the entire experience easy, safe and FUN! This is one of those "Bucket List" things you want to do and it was defiantly something I want to do again! The part when we got to go down INSIDE THE WATERFALL was the best! This is a great "confidence booster" as what seems impossible in life is not if you learn for pros like you'll find here at Rappel Maui. I'll be back for sure!!! MAHALO!

These ladies are amazing, our tour guides Sam and Ropheka are the best. We were visiting from LA for my birthday. Everything from the checking experience to the checking out was absolutely great. Sam and Ropheka are beyond knowledgeable with the ropes. we were first timers and let me tell you they make you feel like you a pro :) . i highly recommend Rappel Maui, this is a must if you go to Maui!! I give them 10 stars :D Thank you Sam and Ropheka for making our experience unforgettable!

This was an absolute amazing experience!!! Can only recommend to everyone going to Maui to do the rappelling!! SO exhilarating!!!! Our guides Shauna and Elena were the best!! Not only did they make us feel super safe, but they were very knowledgable and so much fun!!! It really was the highlight of our week. Just AMAZING!!!!! Go do it!!!

In A Nutshell: -Rappel Maui is a fun activity you can do in a small group of family/friends. -The location is about 1/4 of the way on the Road to Hana co-located at the Garden of Eden Arboretum. -Parking was plentiful & easy. -Your two guides will meet you at the parking lot & walk you to get your gear fitted & store any belongings. -Our guides, Naomi & Deacon were very professional, cool & nice. -You will rappel off of a total of three different areas: the first is an easy practice/familiarization cliff, the second and third rappels are both waterfalls that drop down into small ponds. -If you don't have any experience it's okay you will learn very fast. -It's pretty rewarding to be able to rappel down into two different waterfall/ponds on a hot day in Hawaii. Overall, the entire experience lasts about 3 hours.

A little congratulations kiss under the falls.

This was a unique adventure on Maui. My wife and I got to see and experience spectacular vistas along with the adrenaline rush of repelling down 2 private water falls. The guides, Naomi and Jack, were fun, encouraging and informative. Not only did they make sure we were safe but they also knew tons of interesting facts about the island. It was well worth the money and avoided the usual tourist spots.

Super fun way to spend the morning! Our guides Elena and Shauna were knowledgeable, entertaining, and took good care of us all. Bug spray was provided, waters, and a small snack. Highly recommend.

This was one of our favorite activities we did in Maui!! Thank you Sam and Abbie for your expert instruction and guidance - you made it fun and safe for all!! I wasn't so sure about this initially, but my kids really wanted to do it. The expert instruction made us all feel comfortable right away even though most of us didn't have rappelling experience. And, the scenery is fantastic! I highly recommend this adventure to anyone that wants to do something a little bit different.

    Brian rappelling in waterfall. Shaka!

Naomi and Ali showed us an adventure of a lifetime! Shawna showed up and captured this adventure for us! This was the most epic thing I have done! Thank you ladies for giving us such a great experience! I highly recommend and would do it again! Waterfall Rappelling is the best way to see a waterfall in the rainforest! Best part of the Hana highway for sure! The enemy of these ladies was amazing. All the encouragement and cheering was on point! Thank you ladies!!

Driving from the east side, there were one-way narrow roads over cliffs. Leaving from the west side was easy-peasy. Parking - Keep an eye out for a red sign that says 'Camp Maluhia'. First lot is overflow, keep driving past gates to main lot where trailhead is located. Hike from overflow parking lot to trailhead is about 1.2 miles each way. Hike incline - First 1/4 mile of asphalt was the steepest. Next mile was incline but not too bad. Last mile was steeper incline. Hike views - If you go on a cloudier sunny day like we did, there were AMAZING views up until the last 0.5 miles. The overlook at the very end was above clouds so we couldn't see anything. Shoes - I don't recommend wearing sandals or flip flops, because it is pretty rocky and steep. No large rock climbing. I got by wearing casual tennis shoes, but running/hiking shoes are best. There were no stream crossings, so no need to worry about feet getting wet.

However, for those who feels like a Lewis Hamilton behind the wheel and love a breathtaking view, this is the route for you. I've decided to do the Road to Hana upcountry this time around. There is so much to see. It's a much more scenic route. You get the ocean, the never ending fields of green grass and some cows blocking your path every now and then =) To say this route to Hana is like something out of a movie is an understatement. One would truly have to experience the journey to know what I'm talking about, pictures will not do it justice. Many have warned against going this way either to or back from Hana, but tbh, it's not scary at all (only if you're not confident in your driving skills). I highly suggest starting the day early like you would going to Hana from Pā'ia. If you start at 6am, you can stop by Grandma's House to grab a bite or a coffee and continue on and get to Pipiwai trail to start your early hike without the crowds and take as many bamboo forest photos as you want =) The trail feels so much more relaxing when it's quiet. The crowds do start coming around 10:30am. After you hike Pipiwai trail you're only 10 mins away from Wailua falls and then another 10 mins from Waioka Pond...I'll stop here, you get the point. Going the upcountry route you get the best stops to yourself without a huge crowd because the majority is still on the other side at Twin Falls ;) Most people like to get to Hana and take the same route back, but I highly recommend to do the loop so you get to see everything, every single part of the drive. Even if you don't stop at all the places, you don't want to miss out on some of the good eats Hana has to offer. Again, others may have mentioned how dangerous the back side is, it really isn't. All it requires is some common sense - if you see a blind corner, honk your horn, listen for other oncoming cars and the few times I've ran into oncoming traffic, either myself or the other person will yield/reverse back to allow space for one of us to pass. Have fun, it's a great drive and one you won't regret.

I have been lucky enough to witness a couple of sunrises in this park and all of them have been unique, mouth dropping gorgeous. I highly recommend. Sunsets are epic as well but there is something about the anticipation of patiently waiting for the sun to rise out here that is otherworldly. Times have changed with a reservation being required now to attend a sunrise (3am - 7am). Next it can take up to two hours to get here if you are staying in Lahaina. This means you are getting up extremely early to arrive for sunrise, but you won't regret it. You pass through the towns of Kahului, Paia, and Makawao before you begin your ascension to the summit on the windy Crater Road. Be sure to dress warmly for sunrise. Dress in layers and wear a beanie too if your ears get cold. During and after sunrise the crater is the most clear, but it does often fill up with clouds especially late mornings. Hiking here is very challenging since you are sitting at 10,023 feet at the summit and you just came from sea level. We did love every minute of our trek, especially hiking out to the cinder cones. This volcano is not considered extinct but still active. It has erupted at least ten times in the last thousand years. Due to its history, scientists still monitor it today. One of the unique plants that live here is the stunning Silversword plant. This plant only blooms once in its life and can only be found here. This is one of the best ways to start your day on Maui.

Jeff, our awesome tour guide, used a laser pointer to help us see the constellations we usually can't back at home. The images on the digital telescope like nebulas, the moon & star clusters were an amazing addition to have as keepsakes. My husband and I felt he made the tour a great balance of learning and fun. Things to consider: I do recommend following the moons cycles booking this tour/your trip if this is especially important for you to see as many stars as possible. The sunset and views of the observatory's make it awesome anyways :) I struggled with altitude sickness around 12,000 ft. Jeff had made sure to let us know beforehand if we experienced any issues to speak up.
