This is hands down my FAVORITE activity we did during my trip to MAUI!! If you are adventurous, into physical activity and into sight seeing by hiking and exploring the land, -- this is IT!! You meet in the "Park N' Ride" Lot off the 30 --but at first we had trouble determining where this lot was because we thought there would be a big sign saying "PARK N' RIDE" lot --but there wasn't -- nonetheless, we saw the Rappell Maui van and knew we were in the right place. Our guides were Doug and Mark -- the guides are the one that drive from the parking lot to the Rappell place - Doug was very informative with the history of Hawaii and gave great recommendations on local food and sights to see in Maui. After driving about an hour up Hana Highway -- you reach the Garden of Eden -- you do a small, easy BEAUTIFUL hike to their shed and have a picnic style lunch, get geared up (all equipment -waterproof backback,water,shoes are provided!) for the Rappel and Hike more to the actual waterfalls! (Note: this company i guess "owns" the property where you hike and rappell, so it is very PRIVATE and not Bombarded by lots of people! This is a HUGE Plus-- nature at its finest!) I loved every minute of this activity and everything was SO BEAUTIFUL, Exciting and FUN! Their groups are small and so you get to know your group and everything is more personalized! You do a total of 3 Rappells -- each one with its own thrill! 5/5 stars for our instructor Doug -- He had so much patience for people and is WONDERFUL at explaining things, he is also VERY Descriptive which helps SO MUCH when he is guidinge guiding you through where to place your feet! He gives great encouragement and makes you feel so proud of yourself! You can tell Doug loves his job! I can't say that I loved the other instructor Mark, he was okay -- but not the best customer service -- I thought it was just ME --but talking to the other people in my group -- we all felt the same -- we all felt that he was a little rude. We understand this could potentially be dangerous and its important to listen BUT his demeaning tone was not really appreciated. This activity is MEANT for people who are beginners, who have NOT done this before plus we got adrenaline running through us and we are so excited to be there! and so, i think it is okay if sometimes we get a little flustered and lag on following an instruction. a big problem with him was that he is SO VAGUE and his voice was hard to hear!! (other people felt the same way) -- He would say "see the ridge there..no, the ridge!, the ridge!" - DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY RIDGES and LEDGES there are in that WATERFALL? Is it the one inbetween my legs--the one that looks like a triangle --the one that looks like a square? the one near my left ankle? -- ugh no descriptions what so ever and he would just keep yelling "the ledge!! or the Ridge" --one of the rappellers got fed up and said "I can't hear you, you need to speak LOUDER" --because it was hard to hear him! On the last waterfall -- i guess the last rappeller had a hard time with technique --so when she got down to the bottom -- mark was giving her a lecture on technique.. and telling her how she "NEEDS" to lean back...blah blah..it was like "okay? whats the point in the lecture because its the LAST waterfall!..we aren't pros! we havent done this before, of course out technique will be off!!" My boyfriend got the whole thing on video -- I took a while on this one waterfall and when I finally got down -- the video showed Mark shaking his head as if i was a headache or something. Tip: Bring soap to wash your hands! Theres only hand sanitizer the whole trip! Also bring your waterproof camera or a waterproof case for your camera or phone because they dont take pictures (they are too busy making sure you are SAFE) ..Eat a good BREAKFAST and bring snacks!! -- YOU WILL BE HUNGRY!! there is a good amount of hiking involved! What goes down MUST come BACK UP! **if you like water/swimming, I recommend that you go first and get a life jacket (even though you are a good swimmer!) go first because you get to chill at the bottom of the waterfall and enjoy the water and the sights while the rest of your group goes down the waterfall! Even if you are a good swimmer -- its nice to just have the lifejacket and just float in the water and relax! Overall, besides the Mark the guide -- i loved everything about this activity! BEAUTIFUL SIGHTS - breathtaking views, hiking, rappelling,a good workout! A MUST DO IN MAUI!!! thank you Rappell MAUI for a great time! read more

WOW! What an adventure! At 66yo I am always looking for something to add to the "bucket list" I've had 2 total knee replacements (the most recent Dec '13) & I just knew" they" were up for the challenge. I convinced my long time buddy, Jill, that we should do this. Her biggest concern was the "ride" 1/2 way up the road to Hana (she gets car sick) but it was a "piece of cake" for her. We were treated to a spectacular tour up the road including the "Garden of Eden". This was followed by a wonderful lunch & then... on to the Adventure! Was I scared?...Of course I was (isn't facing your fears part of the experience?) Our guides,Trey & Collin were so incredibly skilled & helpful that "fear" became a non-factor! The hardest part was getting on to the waterfalls but Trey's "step by step" instructions were invaluable...and then Whoo Hoo! We Did It !!! I would definitely add a helmet-mounted "Go Pro" camera to this event. ALOHA TRUNK rents these for a very reasonable price & Rappel Maui has the vented helmets needed. An amazing adventure!! I am a long time resident of maui and was excited to see a new activity on island to try! perfect for the little more adventurous traveler!! We met the guides near Maalea and we were given some local knowledge as we drove to the Garden of Eden (half way to Hana) I learned things on the ride. We were outfitted with all of our necessary equipment and we were on our way. All we needed to bring was our swimsuits and camera! The first rappel was over dry land and gave us all a chance to learn the technique and gain confidence! The next two rappels are down two spectacular waterfalls! We got to swim in the fresh water pools and wait in our private waterfall pool while we waited for the rest of our group to rappel down! The setting was spectacular! Our guides Colin and Janoah were patient, kind, and very knowledgable. Not to mention very reassuring, right there for rescue if any one slipped and fun to spend the day with. After, we hiked up to base camp and had a yummy lunch before our trip back This is definitely a must try if you like a little adventure!! read more

We are a family of 3, ages 49-17. We LOVED this experience! The guides were informative on the drive regarding the road to Hanna and locals who live/work there, the plant life as we walked to the shed, the rules and instructions regarding the rappel. There are two guides, one at the top and one below who work the entire trip. They were both encouraging and positive with lots of positive reinforcement along the way for each of us! The experience is thrilling since you control your speed and footing placement. The view is amazing! If you have any issues walking on uneven surfaces or climbing this is NOT for you! There is definitely hiking involved and you hike back up from the bottom after 3 rappel drops. I don't work out and with several rest stops I made it up. The guides are patient and encouraged me to stop as often as I needed. The food is fresh and prepared by hand. The fresh pineapple was delicious and those cookies(baked every morning) should be available for sale!! We bought the photo package of our experience at the end. I really didn't know what to expect going into this but was blown away by this experience. It was thrilling while still providing feeling of safety using their equipment. The scenery was breathtaking and it's a huge bonus that the grounds are located on private property to avoid the crowds that can build up at other popular sites around Maui. This is a definite must when you visit Maui. Scary at first but the guides are so patient and make you feel safe. This is an activity I know I will not experience in Chicago so I was taking it all in while I was there, the landscape, the waterfalls...just awesome. The guides provide you with a helmet, some booties, a bag, a waterproof container for your cell or other valuables, and lunch. Just listen to the pointers that the guides give you and you will conquer this no problem. This was my first time ever doing something like this and I am not athletic by any means and I survived!!!! A must-do in Maui. The guides - Sam and Taylor were amazing and very knowledgeable about Maui and technical rappelling. This is a unique experience and environment in the botanical garden of eden that only Rappel Maui has access to. The gear provided was top notch and everything you need. The lunch was also good after all the rappelling and hiking. Today - due to recent hurricane/tropical storms - we didn't rappel down the waterfalls because of raging waters and dangerous conditions. But that was totally fine with us since the alternative rappels were far more technical and higher (110 feet vs 60-80ft)! We were happy to stay semi-dry and do the higher rappels while still getting great views and photos of all the waterfalls. read more

We had a wonderful experience. Emily and Sam were our guides. Not only were they experienced and knowledgeable about rappelling, Emily also had a lot to teach us about the island on our drive there. We were appreciative of the gear they provided (helmet, shoes, life vest, harness). My husband wore board shorts and a dri-fit shirt and I wore longer workout shorts and a dri-fit tank. We were comfortable. The rappels themselves were more mentally challenging than phyiscal, although I think you would need to be in moderate physical health to have a good time. The lunch after was great. The drive is partially on the road to Hana, so if you get car sick I would recommend taking ginger candies or supplement before to settle your stomach, as I did. All in all, we would absolutely recommend doing this excursion. It really is an amazing way to take in the hidden beauty of the island. read more

Who knew you could even rappel down waterfalls in Maui? This was just an amazing experience! From start to finish, I had an epic time. The ride to arboretum site was amazing to start with. The hike down to the waterfalls was also very beautiful! I was definitely a little bit apprehensive about rappelling. However, the guides there were so nice and informative. They were all very reassuring. I was especially grateful to meet and rappel with one of the guides, David Black. He was an awesome guide! He made the whole experience a lot of fun and made it really easy to do. The thrill of rappelling down a waterfall was absolutely amazing! The environment was very beautiful. We had heard about the waterfall rappelling, and we were so excited about the adventure. We had a beautiful day on 1/25/17 with sunshine and nice weather. While the trip had potential, it fell short of expectations especially given the cost. We rappelled down a bunny hill and two walls next to waterfalls. It was fun but not what we expected. From the promotional brochure, we expected to be in the waterfalls. We know other trips on the same day that we went did this and we had friends that had previously rappelled down the falls. We were never told why we did not go down the falls. The weather was nice and the flow of the the falls was reasonable. We would have expected this being discussed upfront. In reading the reviews, it appears that many trips do not go down the falls. Given the price, not quite worth the cost. Try zip lining next time. read more

This was awesome!! By far our favorite thing we did on Maui! Definitely highly recommended for the more adventurous. Collin and Dan were our guides, and they were so fun. Super patient, explained everything and very willing to answer any questions. We even feel like they went above and beyond by finding Guavas and Strawberry Guavas for us to try, pointing out the Awapuhi plants and showing us how to get the stuff out. I even put some on my hair since it was wet from the falls. We felt like we were with Hawaiian guides that also took us on a sweet adventure. Dan needs to work on his jokes though LOL. But seriously, take heed to all the advice already given. Be prepared to be scared(or pumped if you're crazy like us), back down a waterfall, trust your guide because you WILL have to take a huge step down, trust your equipment (they took exceptionally good care of it from what we saw), you might slip and fall on some rocks (I did, no biggie), you might end up upside down in a waterfall (my husband did for a few seconds), but if you go, I can promise you it will be like nothing you have ever experienced! The feeling you get when you get to the bottom is incredible. We will definitely do it again next time we are there!! read more

If you have an adventurous bone in your body, this is a must do while in Maui. My husband booked this for us, which included my two sons, which are nine and twelve. I was genuinely nervous because Of my kids- they had never done anything like this before. But my husband and I are pretty daring by nature and like to try new things, so I was willing to give it a try. Both kids made the weight required to do it and both were eager. So we met the group in a tour van and headed up about 1/3 of the way to Hana. I had the kids take Dramamine so we didn't have issues with the drive, it's very windy and curvy. The kids were fine and the drive went by quickly. The whole drive the two guides went over the rules. They were both really nice and super friendly. As we went up into the rainforest, it rained on us as we were pulling up, so we all huddled under a canopy and got geared up. They supply water shoes- so don't worry about what shoes you wear. They also had rain ponchos if you need one. We hiked to the first rappel spot which we were supposed to learn on. The guide showed us what to do as we watched. Listening to the rules here is imperative- as you will see when you actually rappel the waterfalls. The first spot is simply a hillside to learn on. My boys were excited and wanted to go first. They did great and it was perfect for learning. The first waterfall was a bit scary getting to. If you have a fear of heights this isn't for you. You have to stay latched to the rope with everyone and follow the line while traversing the rocks. It's a heart racing experience, but really fun. The guides walked us through every step of every rappel from start to finish- with one guide guiding from the top and one in the natural pool guiding from below. They make it fail proof- although while rappelling down I must say with the waterfall in your face and the natural pool below- it's an experience unlike anything. We had certain people watching for flash floods which added to the adrenaline. They warned us the water at the bottom would be cold- which honestly was my biggest fear- I hate cold water. But after going down the waterfall- and with the adrenaline, and seeing the beauty as you float across the pool, I didn't even notice the cold water. It's really wasn't cold, I thought it would be miserable walking around in wet clothes after that and I could wrap my brain around it. But when you're doing this- you just don't think about it. The waterfalls got progressively steeper and more dramatic. Both of which were so beautiful. My younger son wanted to go first on the actual waterfall too, but being nine he decided after going over the edge that he didn't want to go anymore. We all went and the guide walked him down the trail. He was super nice about it and even tried giving him a little pep talk. But he decided he didn't want to do either waterfall. My twelve year old loved it and thought it was an amazing experience. I can say there is nothing else like this. It's a once in a lifetime for sure. If you like adventure, don't pass this up. We will remember it forever. read more

Took my husband and two teenage boys to Maui. Planned a snorkeling trip, a helicopter tour and Rappel Maui. The boys all said that Rappel Maui was their favorite activity - highlife of the trip!! On the road to Hana, driver points out some gorgeous sites! The waterfalls were beautiful and never though I could actually Rappel in a waterfall- felt totally safe! I have no words to describe the disaster Rappel maui is... i was on the road to hana going to kahului. And when we came to one of the many single lane bridges the car ahead of me was 2/3 of the way across the bridge with me right behind. As is the custom the car on the other side of the bridge going the opposite direction as we were. Pulled over to let us get by. But at that very minute. The Rappel Maui van. Driven by a driver named joe i believe. Barreled by the car that pulled over in an attempt to pass him. Coming face to face or bumper to bumper with the car ahead of me. At that point he stopped even tho the driver ahead motioned for him to back up. He refused to do so even tho he was clear to do so. No cars were behind him but our lane had at least 7 cars. Even if we wanted to back up would have been much harder for us. As the standoff continued a handfull of drivers approached the driver of the van asking him to reverse. He refeused to do so. At one point thing escalated to the point where people wanted to fight him or slash his tires. My wife called his company and his boss told him on speaker phone to back up. Still he refeused.. rolling up his windows and shaking his head no no no. We called police . More people asked him to move and tempers were flaring but he just sat there and nodded no. This driver distespected all the locals on the road. He disrespected his passenger's that were also asking him to reverse. He disobeyed his employer and was a horrible example of Aloha. It took 20 minutes to finally resolve it. When an elderly man asked me and the car ahead of us to just back up and let him by. We did so out of respect for the elder man. But the bottom line is.. reppel maui via their driver. Showed no interest in the safety or security of their passenger's. Had zero aloha. And ruined a lot of peoples vacation.. do yourself a favor.. dont use this company. read more

I have always wanted to rappel so when I was asked what I wanted to do in Maui that was easy. Rappel Maui! Rappel Maui was fantastic from start to finish. Booking was easy, Ken followed with a verbal and written confirmation of what to expect and where to be, then Dave and MJ made certain we had a great time and were safe. We hiked beautiful country, went down a cliff and some waterfalls followed by a delicious lunch. I look forward to seeing what they have to offer next time I am in Maui. My husband and I have been to Maui many times so we were looking for something completely different. We experienced quite a bucket list activity with Rappel Maui. Jenoa was friendly and informational on local places on the drive up. Dave and Jenoa instructed us on navigating our way down. I have never done anything like this. They did an excellent job teaching you how to rappel each waterfall. They give you all the gear to use..even foot wear. We met the owner of the private property and his handsome dog Danzee by chance while they were taking care of the landscaping. This is a very personable, ecofriendly, kind crew! so the answer is "Yes, you can do this!" Costly yes!! But a memory for a lifetime!! Go for it! read more

Rappelling waterfalls in Maui is probably the most mentally challenging thing I have ever done! Don't worry if you want to do it, Trey will stay calm and talk you through your adventure! Anna gave excellent explanations of what you were about to do. Her positivity and excitement is contagious! Trey may be the most patient person I have ever met and quickly changed his approach between each person to make them relaxed and as prepared as possible.
