Had a great time with Kate and Chris. We rode in the van with them and had a great educational talk about the islands and history of Maui and other local insights. The grounds were beautiful and so was the ride in. Our equipment was well kept and clean. We were given clear, concise instructions. At no time did we feel unsafe or unsure of our guides. Our guides were very professional but even more fun. The waterfalls were very beautiful and refreshing. (It was hot) If you have a GoPro be sure to bring your helmet mount component as their helmets have the mounting bracket. Lunch after wards included a wrap of our choice: Roast beef/Turkey/Vegetarian, some great local pineapple and choc chip cookies and bottled water. This is a must do. Let me repeat, this is a must do. There is absolutely no way you will regret booking this adventure. My fiance and I are not the biggest fans of heights, but we are both athletic and were looking to do something we would remember forever. This activity provided us with the challenge and exhilaration it takes for something to be truly memorable. We showed up to the park and ride about 30 min early and were greeted promptly by the shuttle and two great tour guides, Kristin and Dan. We drove about 1 hour (half the distance of "the road to Hana") and ended at The Garden of Eden where we were dropped off and proceeded to hike to the gear shed. We then were outfitted with all of our gear and given all the necessary tools for the trip. I must admit, it was very nice being provided with everything - even a waterproof container for your electronics so you can still take your phone for photos - they even had helmets with GorPro mounts! The adventure had truly begun once we were all geared up and ready to go. You begin to trek down to the "bunny hill" where they teach you rappelling 101. It seems a bit daunting at first and there is a lot of information to retain, but the guides really make you feel at ease and there are so many fail safes in place that literally nothing bad can happen (well, you know what I mean). We all made our way down the bunny hill and were off to the first waterfall! I don't want to go into every little detail and spoil the fun that a good mystery holds, so just go and experience it for yourselves! I promise, it is nothing you will regret. You do not need to be super athletic to do this and you do not need to be young. We had two people in their 50s-60s who made it down in one piece and enjoyed every minute of it. This tour was an AMAZING experience; but Trey was a JERK. My family has a time-share in Maui and we go about once a year. This past summer we signed up for this rappelling adventure thinking it could become a family tradition. We still have about a year before we have to decide for sure, but at this point I'm not sure we will be going again. In explanation: one of the guides met us in a parking lot in Lahaina to take us to the garden of Eden, his name is Trey and within 15 minutes of the trip he was irritable, bossy, condescending and sexist. For the entire hour and a half drive up there he managed to dominate the atmosphere with an unrelenting stream of patronizing and obvious commentary: "That is a bamboo forest. Lexi, what is that?" "A bamboo forest." "Goood!" He treated adult women like five-year-olds incapable of focus or intelligence. He did not allow anyone to take pictures of the beautiful Hawaiian jungle for fear they may not be fully focused on his all-important description of his little hut by the waterfall that leaks when it rains. Everyone got on the van that morning excited and happy, and then spent the entire drive morose and annoyed. One we got to the garden, things improved dramatically. The food was actually very good. The hike was wonderful, the waterfalls were amazing, and the other guide was helpful, instructive and kind. Even Trey seemed less irritating. On the return trip, Trey gave his headset a rest and we were actually allowed to speak without being threatened with not being allowed to enter the canyon. Because we'd already been in the canyon! He had nothing to threaten us with! Free at last! I feel sorry for the kid in the front seat with him though. He had to talk to He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named (yes, I am comparing Trey to Voldemort. A bit excessive? perhaps. Forgive me -- I am seriously ticked off) the whole ride back. In conclusion, this activity is truly amazing, but if you decide to go, perhaps you could call and ask for Trey to not be the person driving the van. If our family does return, it will only be because we have been assured Trey will not even be visible for our entire journey. read more

Overdue, but I loved our Rappel Maui adventure! We went on this tour in October of 2016 for my boyfriend's birthday. Our guides were Kristin and Matthew. They explained everything so well, were really nice, and kept us safe the whole trip. We had a small group going in, 5 people total, not including our 2 guides. They pick you up at a park and ride, and take you a couple of hours into the Road to Hana, near the garden of Eden. Along the ride, they provide cool little bits of information of what you see along the ride, so it's not boring at all. When you get there, they help you size gear and put things on, making sure that the gear fits well. If you're visiting in the Fall-Winter months, I recommend wearing a light long sleeve and maybe yoga pants for the ladies (it lightly rained and then stopped, but it was humid during the hike). Also, don't forget to apply bug spray before putting on the gear-- there were lots of mosquitoes along the hike. The actual tour has you hiking a bit in what looks like a lush jungle inside the Garden of Eden. We did 3 or 4 rappels, and because it had just rained, we rappelled down the side of the waterfall-- which was still hard for me! I fell back, got some elbow abrasions, but Matt and Kristin still made sure I was safe and didn't make me feel so bad about falling so many times. The lunch they provide after rappelling was really good, especially the cookies. The trip was amazing; not too long, not too short, and really fun with some amazing people. If you want an adrenaline rush and to go on a beautiful hike in the Garden of Eden, definitely book a tour with Rappel Maui! read more

I won't repeat what others stated with regard to logistics since we too were picked up at our resort, were driven on the first part of the road to Hana, etc. We also did three rappels - one dry and two wet. For us - party of four including two teens - what made the experience special was our guides. Their love of the island, knowledge, positive attitudes, and willingness to share their passion made the day. We not only rappelled, the trip was essentially an open, guided QA both on the trip to the Garden of Eden and back. BUCKET LIST! BUCKET LIST! BUCKET LIST! Must do! I had so much fun, and was reminded of it from how sore I was the following couple days. I've lived on Maui for over 3 years and am recently a new concierge so I had to try this! Logan and Matthew were our guides. They were very very friendly, funny and SAFE! Very trustworthy guides. I live in Lahaina and we met at the "Park and Ride" Lot and they drove us to The Garden of Eden. I recommend eating a lot of granola bars on your way, because you will be hungry. And if you're like me, you will perform better with food in your stomach. They provide almost everything you need: shoes, backpacks, dry containers so you can take your phone for photos, helmets (some helmets have gopro mounts on them), life jackets, and lunch. Lunch and cookies were onolicious. Bring your own towel and a change of clothes! I was a little apprehensive about not having gloves, but when you're rappelling the proper way, gloves are not needed. The first rappel was about 45 ft. Both Logan and Matthew were very helpful and informative. I was nervous but new I was in good hands. I've only rappelled once before and that was 3 years ago in Mexico. The next 2 rappels were around 120 ft. It was awesome! You will get a work out because what goes down has to come back up. Quite a hike back up the hill. Great workout. I was feeling it for a couple days after. Unfortunately, this particular day, we did not get to experience rappelling in the waterfall. The waterfall was raging. The guides explained why it was not safe to rappel in such heavy falls. I really appreciate their safety and concerns. Definitely not your run of the mill Maui adventure. My husband saw the brochure in the hotel lobby and was determined to to this! It was a great experience overall and I'm glad I did it, but you should definitely know a few things first: 1. This is an ALL day adventure. We were picked up at 945 AM near the Maalaea Harbor, drove an hour to the site on the road to Hana and finally got back to our hotel in Kaanapali at 530 PM. That being said, it was a fun way to do at least a small portion of the road to Hana as well. 2. This is not an easy adventure. It is rigorous and you should be in generally good physical condition to do it. Not only do you have to rappel down three cliffs, you then have to walk back up to the starting point. It is a very steep climb through the rainforest even given that there are "stairs" built in. 3. You will likely get scraped and bruised. Wear long shorts and or yoga pants. PRO TIP: put a band aid around the pinky finger of your dominant hand. They don't give you gloves and both my husband and I got rope burns there. Yes, if you do it properly that won't happen. Trust me, no one does it properly -- at least at first. 4. The brochure said we'd do three cliffs, two of which would be waterfalls. However, due to weather conditions the day we went, we only did one waterfall, which was the last one. That being said, it was the best one by far. Truth be told, I didn't really like the second rappel (the longest) and probably would have been super disappointed if the last one hadn't been so awesome. 5. You will feel like a rockstar once you get done with this adventure. read more

This was an awesome experience! I really wanted to do this but was also VERY nervous. Emily and Janoah were great guides. He handled the driving over Hana Hwy perfectly while Emily engaged everyone, answered questions and taught us a lot about Maui's history and plants. They both gave very clear instructions and were helpful and encouraging the entire time. Twice I needed a little extra help and both times they were right there. I am a large person, 210lbs and was concerned that this would be too strenuous, despite working out lately. This is definitely NOT for couch potatoes. After going DOWN three rappels you do have to hike back UP the hill. The hike never felt dangerous, but it is strenuous! This was a splurge for us. It's not cheap, but it shouldn't be. When you decide to step over the edge of a water fall you want to trust your equipment and your guide! The only thing I didn't have complete confidence in when I started was myself. If you're on the fence about whether to do this or not, I suggest taking the plunge. (Pun intended!) E-mail them with questions if you have any. P.S. We had a great group!! Rappel Maui is a must-do tour on Maui!!! It delivers on every level. Great guides that manage to keep you entertained and keep you safe at the same time. This was the Most exciting thing I have done! From pickup to drop off, this tour was amazing! Dave and Trey were very patient, explained everything in detail, and fun to be with. We were on a cruise and booked this as an excursion through the boat. We were really excited because we had done activities like this before and loved it. We really enjoyed the trip. Our guides-Chris and Elena were awesome. They did a great job exercising safety, encouraging us, and being fun and lively. The park itself is beautiful and we enjoyed walking around a bit after wards. Our negative is we didn't get to do any waterfall repelling, the water was flowing too much. So we did 3 dry runs instead. So we paid the same amount of money but got a substitute. I'm fine with the decision because of safety, but it really was not as cool. And the first line was called the practice line to get us comfortable, but it counted as one of our 3 lines so I wouldn't call it a "practice" if it was not genuinely just to practice on. read more

I highly recommend this adventure! As our guide, Travis, would say, it was "epic". Tons of fun, exhilarating, something you can't do yourself anywhere else on the island. Just the kind of thing you'd see someone doing on a video at REI (as in, rappelling down a waterfall is exactly what I saw on the TV monitor while I was in line at REI recently). If you're the active, outdoorsy type, you'll love this! Even if you're not actively inclined, you'll have a great time. Travis and the team are very safety-focused and provide detailed instruction on how to rappel and where to place your feet as you first go down the practice hill and the first waterfall. No worries if you're a beginner. It was no problem for this 50-something dad or my daughters. Probably not a technically difficult rappel for a hardcore climber, but who wouldn't want to rappel down a 60' waterfall in the middle of a beautiful rainforest? After looking over the reviews and stuff i was really nervous going in December because thats a very wet time and i was super afraid of not being able to go down the waterfall like some others had experienced. That was not our case!! Just keep an eye on weather. It was SO cool!! youre on private property and our group size was only 7 of us so it was pretty small and very beautiful and green hiking trails! and wild peacocks. it was my first repelling kinda thing ive done and it was rad! The greatest experience of my life! I heard about this, and had always wanted to repel even though I'm now 62 years old with some health issues. After several discussions with them, it was determined that they thought it would be safe for me to go.Thank goodness because otherwise I would've missed the most thrilling thing ever! Shawna and Alba where our guys, and they couldn't have been nicer had always offered help. They gave you thorough instructions and made you feel safe. Be dead one mountain repel (45') , and two waterfalls (45' and 65'). My suggestion is not to go in the winter time because heavy rains could prevent you from doing the waterfalls, and if you're severely out of shape, the exit can be a little rough as it's very steep. But I asked to stop for a few seconds a couple times, and everyone obliged. It was definitely a team effort for all of us, and a great cheering event! Highly recommend! read more

Check your gear yourself! The guides will NOT check that you're in your harness correctly. I've done many excursions and traveling and this was worse than anything I've ever seen. I specifically asked Naomi if she could check out our kids and myself and she didn't. The second I stepped off the edge, it felt like my body was being strangled and I was in severe pain. I told her I wanted to come back up (which was only a small step up at that point) and she said keep going. I was literally screaming in pain as my back was getting squeezed with the harness that wasn't on correctly. Sure enough, as I make it to the bottom, the other guide, Deacon, immediately sees that my harness wasn't on correctly and goes to untwist it and I was then in too much pain to continue. Not only that, they didn't apologize or say anything at all! Guides.... You have ONE job to do! One! Pass on this excursion. It sucks and the guides do NOT care about your safety and when they make a blatant mistake, there is ZERO ownership. Zip-line or parasail instead. read more

There were only 3 repels on our 6 hour trip. Two of them were down hot rocky mud slopes. And only one of them was even near a waterfall. We didn't even traverse down water. Just the rock next to it. I would not say that this was worth the price. Most of our time was spent eating for every one else to come down. So about 3 minutes of actual rappelling occurred. read more

Such an amazing experience. Received this recommendation from some friends who had visited before us. Our trip leaders were amazing! The whole day was very well planned out and the leaders were very patient with our rappelling skills. Lunch was served as well.
