For 20 years Rasa Sayang has been our go-to lunch stop when we seek the authentic comfort of my wife's native cuisine. Always for her it's Curry Laksa. Creamy, thick, spicy goodness. She adds xtra sambal; she likes it hot. Recently we returned after several years away, and it's still better than we found after 2 years living in Malaysia. Ewwww. I ordered the Chicken Lo Mein. Is was absolutely disgusting and had no taste at all.

First time to the Chinese restaurant at about 4:30 PM And I needed a post workout meal so I figured I'd get some fried rice, on the door is a sign saying that they only do take out and deliveries which is fine...... I started to call their number and an older Chinese woman came to the door and asked me if I want to order she wasn't pleasant or nice just there......So I said I just wanted to get an order of brown rice and maybe some chicken.....She tried to upsell me on a dinner meal which I didn't want I just wanted some brown rice and chicken so I said do you have fried rice?, she said yes I said great I'll take one order of fried rice. Ten minutes goes by and she comes out and she says that the order will be $14.49.... I was pretty shocked I said to myself she must've given me a huge order maybe the dinner menu so I gave her A $20 bill and when she came back with my five dollar bill and coin change I told her to keep the coin she seemed...a little upset that I didn't give her the five, could've been my imagination at any rate she went back inside. Another Ten minutes goes by and she comes out or I should say her arm comes out and drops a tightly wrapped Container inside of a plastic bag and she said "I give you spring roll" maybe she felt guilty or that's how they justify charging Tripple for there orders....so I said great and thank you. Went back to my car open the bag and was very surprised that the container was so small, I was a little upset to be honest I paid almost $15 dollars which in my opinion is too much for that portion of Fried Rice....I know it's Covid but but come on, don't PRICE GOUGE !!! there were no utensils so i went back knocked on the door.,,,,she came back and said "what do you need or what do you want"I couldn't understand her and I said well I need eating utensils It was a TO GO ORDER DUH!!!! I'm going to eat it in my car I told her, she didn't say anything went back inside came back in a couple minutes with some plastic utensils and said nothing. So I ate the order of fried rice which was pretty unspectacular not bad not great, it was just OK In my opinion.... but definitely not worth almost $15 no way I'm from Los Angeles we ordered Chinese food all the time from many different Chinese restaurants and this size order would cost no more the Seven dollars Max!!! My first experience with this restaurant was so awful that I didn't order there again for many months. It was through one of those 3rd party delivery companies. I was overcharged and when I called this company to complain, they were extremely rude. I alerted the restaurant to this and they were rather disinterested. I did finally agree to give them another try, calling the restaurant directly to order. I have now ordered from them many times, and dined in a couple of times, and the food and service have been uniformly outstanding. The Thai dishes are wonderful. I love how they often throw in an extra item for free. Last night, it was a free cup of hot and sour soup which was awesome. Little touches like these are much appreciated. read more

For once I was grateful for the technolgy that is a palm. Desperate for non-chain dinner ideas in Roswell, fellow YELPer Rebecca K. googled on her palm and we ended up here for Malaysian. I think she even used the YELP thing on-line. WOW, these reviews were right-on. This place is a gem. The decor was lovely, understated, clean and classy. The service was impeccable. Our waiter took the time to answer questions and make special requests happen. When we asked him what he liked on the menu, he had specific things he liked and didn't just fumble around and point out the most expensive thing on the menu. Both Rebecca K. and I took his suggestions. We had: First Course Roti Cana - I had only had Carib Roti - but this was great, and one of our friends with us said it was yummy and authentic. Shrimp Toast - This was the best I have ever had. Actual shrimp, crispy, covered in an interesting crust of sesame seeds. Rasa Sayang Special Coconut Soup - I liked this - but prefer the Thai version with its spice and tang. Rebecca K. gulped hers down! Lobak Roll - This was yummy. Tofu skin, kind of like phyllo, gently held a stuffing of shrimp and meat. Main Course Singapore Fried Noodle - Our friend loved this, and requested not spicy, and they had no problem accomodating. Spicy Garlic Eggplant - This was my recommendation, and boy howdee it was good. I don't know how many times I have ordered something "garlic" off an asian menu only to have it taste nothing like garlic, and more like some innocuous thick "asian" sauce of indeterminate flavor. Not so with this. The eggplant was rich and tender. The Garlic was so full flavored, carmelized....the depth of flavor. It was like heaven. Basil Beef - Rebecca K. had this. I liked it, and I think she did too, but I honestly was more concerned with my eggplant. The only thing I felt bad about this place was that we didn't clean our plates! The food was really good, but we were really full of appetizers and sunshine and beer from earlier. I was so excited to eat the leftovers, and the husband and I enjoyed them thoroughly the next day...I could consider driving all the way back up to Roswell for this. Good Stuff. read more

I went on a Friday with coworkers and I'm only giving it a four because I'm conservative with ratings. This was my first visit and I have to say for lunch, not many Asian fusion locations around my office get a second visit, but this one will definitely be an exception. This is hands-down a Malaysian roots menu, however there are also Chinese and Thai favorites in the list. Atmosphere// Like I mentioned, I was there during lunchtime on a weekday and for the amount of office parks in the area, i was shocked by the quiet and sparse setting. No loud lunch meetings and glasses clinking. Just enough lighting to very easily see your bench mates, and no loud top 40 tunes to try to compete with your conversation. Service// Dishes were prompt, but not we-just-reheated-this prompt. The server recommended some of her faves without too much of a push, and we were never left curious of her whereabouts. The man at the front was very nice, offering me suggestions on food since I've never been there before. He said I should R3, chicken curry. He told me it was very good and I'd be back for more. I told him I'd like it a little spicy. I also placed an order for Moo Goo Gai Pan and one thing of simple, plain fried rice. For all of that - $32. Chicken curry - $12.95 Moo Goo Gai Pan - $12.95 Fried Rice - $2 Steamed Rice $2 He threw in two egg rolls since my order was over #20. Well, the food was nothing special. I definitely overpaid for what I got. The Moo Goo Gai Pan was just plain ole Moo Goo Gai Pan. Chicken, vegetables and the white wine sauce. The chicken curry, on the other hand, was way too spicy. I guess my preference for a little spiciness was interpreted as extra spicy. WOW. I had to keep a gallon of milk with me just to neutralize the spiciness. The rice came in two small to-go Chinese containers. Nothing special about those at all, and like everything else, overpriced. The man who took my order was nice and the food came out in 5 minutes, which is nice. But I won't be back to overpay for their mediocre food. =( read more

Holy huge menu, batman! So much to choose from, so little... money. It's really cozy and dare I say pretty on the inside. One room, nice lighting, booths lining the walls and white-linen covered tables in the middle. A quiet atmosphere with room for quiet conversation. We were given free bowls of hot and sour soup when they learned it was our first time there. I'm usually not a fan of this soup, but I devoured that entire bowl. It was really tasty and full of mushrooms and tofu. For an appetizer we had the roti canai and OH EM GEE, it was like a party on my tongue! The roti was doughy and soft but crispy on the outside. The dip for it was full of flavor and spice. I tried the drunken noodle with beef and it was served piping hot, like all our food was. It was full of beef (tender!) and noodles and not loaded with veggies instead. The phone rang a lot when we were there, but they never ignored anyone to answer it. And it rang a lot because they apparently do a LOT of take out orders. I believe they had more orders going out than they had seated patrons. A good sign, either way. A couple of "regulars" came in, too. I could tell by the conversations they had with the staff. We will definitely be back. read more

Very disappointing experience indeed. I used to work with a bunch of Malaysians a few years ago. We swapped recipes and food during lunch time. My coworkers would bring me home made satay, rendangs, bananas cooked in coconut milk with palm sugar, mee goreng, and the list went on. They spoiled me ROTTEN. So I came by after seeing some rave reviews about this place. I ordered chicken lettuce wrap, tom yum stir fry with squid, and beef rendang. I asked our waiter about the chicken lettuce wrap. I asked him if it was similar to laab (Thai chicken lettuce dish) or what was in it. He was so... vague about it. He said many people liked it so I ordered it. The chicken lettuce wrap was a disaster. The chicken meat was too hot, the sauce was sweet and nothing about it was really particularly Malaysian, a cuisine known to fuse the Chinese, Malay, Indian, and other Asian food into a serious culinary art form. It was just more like take out American Chinese. They had also brought us a few complementary spring rolls and they were the run of the mill frozen spring rolls you can buy from your grocery store. I had high hopes for the beef rendang and the tom yum stir fry with squid. They were crushed as well. Random snippet of fact: did you know that CNN International chose rendang as the most delicious food from around the world? Rendang when done properly is so delicious. There are many spices that go into rendang to give it a complex smoky, spicy, tart, and crisp flavor with the sweetness of the coconut milk to ease the spiciness from the chilies. The rendang is cooked for four to six hours until there is almost no liquid and the beef absorbs up all the spices and the coconut milk and it is just fall apart delicious. The beef rendang from this place didn't give me any of the complex flavors that you usually get from rendang. The dish itself felt flat and lifeless. The beef was too tough, there wasn't a complexity of flavors, just a bit salty and greasy. Tom yum stir fry is also one of my favorites. Sure, it's not super traditional, but I really enjoy tom yum stir fry. I also like squid. So naturally, I ordered tom yum stir fry with squid. The coconut milk was overpowering the entire dish and make it sicky sweet that it actually cloyed at my entire palate. I had two bites of the dish and I was done. The owner stopped by and asked how it was, and I guess he sensed that we were unhappy with how it turned out. He admitted that most of the food was very Americanized to suit American tastes. I think that's such a shame for such an internationally friendly cuisine like Malaysian food. It takes the best aspects of many Asian cuisines and rolls all of the spices and tastes into one amazing cuisine with complex flavors. I will probably never go back to this place again. It's such a shame too, because I was excited that I didn't have to go very far for my Malaysian cravings. read more

Very good food, and very attentive service. The menu is rich and diverse, and if you ask the owners what's best, they'll pick items that are uniquely their own recipes. That's always a plus. If I am going for straight up Thai, I am sorry Rasa, I have to go to Lime Juice in Alpharetta... but in a pinch, this will do. It's off the beaten path, in an outparcel in the Publix shopping center so it's like an afterthought because I avoid Holcomb Bridge Rd at 400 like I avoid a hundred things too unpleasant to mention. read more

Love this place, it's now our go-to Chinese place in town. We've tried the Mongolian beef, garlic chicken, hunan chicken, Kung pao chicken, and pad Thai. All good though the Mongolian beef and king pao chicken are the best - I throw a little sriracha on the kung pao and we are in business. Also love the egg drop soup. read more

Found the highest rated chinese place on Yelp within a reasonable driving distance-- Rasa Sayang. I drive over, hoping to find a somewhat grimey, hole in the wall kind of place, but alas, I am WRONG! Rasa Sayang is really nice- it'd be a nice place for a sit down dinner date. Romantic, cozy interior. I was almost tempted to sit down, but procedural legal drama awaited me! They took my order for take out at the counter and it was ready in 10 minutes. Nice people too. Now I hit some pretty bad traffic on the way back to my hotel and I'm like Dang! My food's going to be cold! Well, not so! Rasa Sayang heated/packaged the food so well it was still piping hot when I sat down to Sam Waterson prosecuting some guilty-looking guy. Loved the fried pot stickers, the lo mein was just okay. Would have rather gotten a double order of the pot stickers. They gave me a plate/spork, which was nice, but the spork could just not pick up the lo mein. read more

Restaurant is clean and friendly (I believe - family owned) and has steady patronage. Our recent spree of going_to_a_new_restaurant_atleast_once_a_week seems to be paying off, especially our discovery of this place... we found the restaurant via google maps.... our desire to experiment with new cuisine landed us up here.. .there were a couple of reviews (in google maps) for this restaurant, and all were a 5-star rating... i found that suspicious... granted that its easy to please one or two, but to please all -- thats almost unheard of.. restaurant is run by a very gracious host (owner), his wife, and a friend... the host was very courteous... upon our arrival he immediately came to our table to see whether it was our first time here.. upon hearing the answer, he took about 5 minutes to explain the meaning of Rasa Sayang, how it came about, and the kind of cuisine Malay cooking represents.... He then proceeded to give us recommendations on what he thinks we should order... We took a bold leap of faith, and w/o nosing further around in the menu, we decided to follow his lead... also ordered warm sakes to accentuate the spices we were about to ingest... to our surprise, the owner offered Malayasian salad (cucumbers, carrots, cabbage in a dressing of vinegar, ginger juice, pineapples, some secret ingredient, all topped w/ sesame seeds) on the house.. One of the best salads i have tasted till date -- i kid you not! The service was very prompt... so much so that the moment we finished savouring our salad, our order for Malaysian Roti Canai arrived... immediately following that, we were presented w/ our main course... two different types of Malaysian Kari -- Kering Padas & Rasa Sayang Kari...serving was ample to feed 2-3... Kering Padas was basically fresh veggies (green beans, onions, and bamboo shoots) in a spicy red thick dry curry... the owner was kind enough to put more of the curry for us to enjoy... Rasa Sayang Kari had all the veggies you can ever think of cooked in a curry-base... simply delicious is the only way to describe what we were served w/.. we also sampled their green tea and mango ice cream... My introduction to Malaysian cuisine. And the reason why I am a huge fan now! Came here with my family. Since it was our first time, they offered us roti canai on the house and I will have to say that it was one of the best flatbreads that I've ever had. Now that I am more careful about how I eat, the next time, I'll have to force someone to share this with me because of its richness. But oh man, so worth it to run an extra mile or two. Had Beef Rendang and it was spicy and good. But the thing that I dream about when I think of this place is the roti canai with its side of curry. read more

I am surprised that there are no reviews for this place!!! This is the best Malaysian food in town. For fans of asian cuisine, TRY THIS PLACE once!!! The wait staff needs to be better at English but that is part of the adventure with trying asian fare in most North American cities. The place generally sees a lot of locals. The owner seems to know most of his customers by name. Not very busy so you can really enjoy the meal without having to worry about being forced out halfway thro the main course..... My office mates and I get takeout from here about once a week for lunch. They always get my bosses order wrong, chicken instead of shrimp on his favorite dish, but he likes chicken too, so not a big deal. The food is always ready fast, and the lunch is pretty reasonably priced. I really love the Malaysian Kung Pao and the Kerang Pedas; those are probably my two favorite dishes. The only real issues that I have with them: they NEVER make anything spicy, no matter how much I beg, and they never give us chopsticks. We always ask, they say it's in the bag, and then we never get them. read more

While it doesn't look like much from the outside, the decor inside is nice and upscale and not overly asian-themed. One of the widest selections of Chinese, Malaysian and Thai favorites anywhere in Atlanta. While you may be able to find better food, you can't beat the service, variety or speed of which they offer. And if you live in the area, their free delivery is awesome! While my wife almost always orders the Pad Thai, she gives it a 4 out of 5 and states it can be a bit inconsistent. We tried this place as an alternative to China Garden. The only good thing was the online ordering feature, which is why I gave two stars. I ordered teriyaki chicken. When it arrived it was deep fried (not indicated on the menu) and sitting in a sugary sweet, watery brown sauce. No thank you. It didn't taste anything like teriyaki chicken.
