Tasty. Jamaican. Takeout.
Almost missed this place when searching since it's currently only under 'Caterers.' I've asked Yelp to expand that. You can't miss the colorful storefront though as you're heading along Baldwin Road.
Inside it almost seemed like a social club, there's a little counter alongside the food service area and all the seats were occupied by local guys just hanging out. Friends of the owners I would think, which is cool. Music was up really loud and "Gloria" by the Manhattans was blasting out which got me even more in a Rasta mood.
Super friendly greeting from the lady behind the counter as well as from the guys chilling! We did have to shout a bit to be heard. It was New Years Eve day and they may have been planning a party on premises.
I got Stew Chicken and my hub got Oxtail. Both were excellent-- I think I liked the oxtail better. The Large portion $8 and plenty big. They refer to 'salad ' but it's that fabulous soft cooked cabbage and peppers. Came with fried plantain too. Lots of super tasty food. Richard wanted to skip rice. They charge $2 to replace with extra vegetables but Mama! What a portion! Well worth it.
They make all the typical Jamaican fare, and then some... cow foot, "Fungie & Salt Fish' - Goat Head Soup. You should call ahead as they don't have everything available every day. But you can get a lunch for one here as well as cater a big group.
Good stuff. read more
