I am a VA caregiver & I am writing this review on behalf of a Vietnam Purple Heart Veteran who was out right lied to by Cy at RateGenius. He told us exactly what the payments would be and when they would be due and all we had to do was electronically sign the contract and print out paperwork, sign it and mail it via FedEx with the prepaid label that would be provided. He had stated he would be off the next day and that it may take just a bit to receive the email. Days go by and he gets message from Cy's co-worker stating the loan was still processing and then the next email he got stated the application had been cancelled. Only after messaging Cy did he then tell me that the original application had 12824 miles instead of 128248 which i literally took a picture of the dash and sent to him so this is no error of anyone's except his own. When we did the application from kredit karma I didn't enter the exact miles. He then sends a message stating that he could still refinance the vehicle but he would need a down payment. They ran a hard credit report inquiry on his credit, told him he was approved & then acted as if we had errored! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!! KREDIT KARMA SHOULD BE ASHAMED FOR RECOMMENDING THIS GARBAGE COMPANY IN THE FIRST PLACE!! This is the second company that's screwed over a 78yr old vietnam veteran, Carvana was the 1st! Led me on for two days and I answered all of their necessary questions. I have excellent credit, income surpasses the threshold, then right before they were going to send me the loan docs, the lender all of a sudden said I was no longer approved because my vehicle was a buy back. Why was this not a problem when they initially approved me? They had the VIN? Why waste my time and ding my credit? Also the representatives attitude changed completely when I opted out of the unnecessary warranty because my vehicle already has a warranty from the dealer. OVERALL: 0.067/10 (Yelp Converted Score: 1/5 (can't round down to zero unfortunately)). I'd give this place a zero, but Yelp minimizes the ratings at one, so here we are. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS. I find it appalling that their sales tactics assume the customer is dumber than they are, and that they feel entitled to hard-pulling your credit to give you sub-par quotes that can't even beat the market. What's worse - they try to CONVINCE you that YOU'RE mistaken, when YOU'RE the one who can clearly see what the rates are, and do some simple math to extrapolate that this company stands to make between $5000 to $10000 off of you in interest, by extending your loan period and increasing your interest rate and APR, but trying to play it off by saying "your monthly payment is lower!!!" (even if you weren't looking to explicitly lower your monthly payments) The moral of the story here is to "stick to your local credit unions". They're ACTUALLY looking out for you, unlike this faceless corporation that only seeks to profit from gullible customers. 1) VALUE FOR MONEY: 1/10. My current APR is 2.74% (interest rate 2.24%) with a credit union, and RateGenius had the gall to offer me 2.93% APR (at the same 2.24% interest rate, for 36 months) or 3.026% APR (at an increased 2.49% interest rate, for 48 months). Yes, my monthly payments would have decreased by around $300-$400 (I have around 18 months left on my current loan), but I explicitly mentioned in my initial e-mail that my goal was to LOWER my interest rate (and possibly) my loan period, not INCREASE both of them (mathematically, this means that you end up paying MORE interest to the bank over time - if the loan period increases, you're giving them more of your hard-earned cash!). I was interested in refinancing my used car. This company lured me in with a lower, "pre-qualified" offer. This is not my first rodeo, so I knew that the final rate could be better or worse once I gave them all my info. I applied online. I received an email response with a link to provide more information. The link they provided me was dead (strike 1), so I called instead. The service rep asked basically the same information I just entered (strike 2), so I went through the process again. Today, I got a call and email that I was approved and to call them back. This new rep asked me for the same information AGAIN, and then told me that I could get a rate that was .5% HIGHER than my current rate (strike 3). A non starter. A suggestion: You can try these people, but they're just brokers. We wound up contacting our currrent loan holders, and got a better rate. read more

They and "autopay" claim to be different companies - they aren't. They're one and the same. When you apply at RateGenious.com they explicitly tell you it's a soft credit pull. Then they "refer" you to "autopay.com" which does several hard pulls through"affiliates" like Ally and random credit unions from around the country. I've reported them to FTC and CFPB - if you do anything with them you're going to get quite a few hard pulls without you ever knowingly having given permission. Stay away! UPDATE- reply from "Alexa" is false - they do not state that they are brokers, they definitely do NOT state that Autopay is the same as RateGenious, nor do they state that they will "spray and pray" your application to random multiple lending entities literally all around the US. They do harm - not good - for which they extract a commission if a loan is made. In addition, unlike say if a car dealer does the same - which they do - it's done at the same time/same date. I reached out to them because Credit Karma showed I had good possibilities of lowering my payments and interest. I started the process on 9/29/21. I was "approved" on 10/5/21. My agent was Tyler Markum. After so much back and forth, we came to an agreement on an offer from a bank. A silly mistake I made was not having my car registered in Florida where I was moving to on 11/1/21. So we found a bank that would keep the offer open till I could be registered and have insurance, ECT. Sent all that info on 11/3/21. His favorite line was "I'll email those to you today" when it came to documents. On 11/9/21 i reached out yet again waiting on documents. Sent references, always signed the documents day of. Paid to join the membership to the credit union called Abound which now sounds like a scam as I think about it. Called Abound CU for an update since Tyler was slower than a Sloth. They said they have nothing on file. 11/18/21 he said my loan with capital one should have already been paid off. IT WAS NOT!! He said he'd follow up with me on 11/19/21. HE DID NOT!! He then replied in 11/22/21 saying he'd get back to me that day with an update. HE DID NOT!! 11/23/21 I had to make a payment to capital one so I wouldn't be late. Was told I'd get refunded once the load was funded. 11/29/21 I had to reach out again. He said I had MORE documents to sign to finalize the loan. Even though days prior he said I signed everything I needed. 12/1/21 I had to reach out AGAIN to tell him I was waiting on those documents. Apparently I needed a VIN inspection. To verify that my car is the Legit one on the paper work. So i went to UPS and did that. 12/6/21 I had to reach out and he said the bank won't accept it due to wrong ink color. I asked for new documents. That was a hassle. 12/16/21 my app was closed. He reopened it per my request. 12/17/21 UPS wouldn't re-notarize since I was out of town and in PA. And the documents were in FL. I'm a flight attendant and wasn't home till Xmas. So I said it would have to wait. When I went to to go resend the Docs from FL on 12/24/21, I woke up to an email that my app was denied. I was over it. I didn't reach back out. 2/19/22: Applied for a refinance through American Airlines credit union. 2/24/22: Loan approved through them (only took longer due to weekend and holiday on 2/21). Documents signed. No notarize needed. Account appeared in my app by 6pm. Pay off sent to capital one 2/25/22. Capital one showed paid off 2/27/22. Process considered COMPLETE read more

Extremely unprofessional... The process to get a quote was as expected. The LO was proficient and trying to connect with me each day for giving a quote to proceed with. However, he wanted me to proceed with a quote that put me 3 payments behind from where I'm currently at and add $1331 of debt to the loan to save $16.29 a month. So I would have $2,426.13 in extra payments + $1,331 for the loan = $3,757.13 total debt. The savings in payments from current loan of (16.29*69 payments) $1,124. The LO wanted to argue with me that I would save more instead of being professional and letting me know that it would not be a good idea to refinance my truck. I would never try and put someone further in debt and lie to them about the savings. read more

I am truly disappointed with my experience with Rate Genius. I was trying to get a lower interest rate on a car loan that was taken out in January 2023. I was approved quickly but I thought it was strange that I was not asked how many months I wanted the loan for and if I wanted a lower rate. I called this morning to get more information on the approved loan and found out it was for a higher rate for 60 months or the same rate I currently have for 48 months. Unfortunately I refinanced my car through Rate genius in April of 2020. They seemed liked a reputable company, and during COVID I was looking to save a few $$$ anywhere I could. The Initial process was pretty simple and quick, it wasn't until after I paid off the refinanced jeep that the nightmare began. During the process of refinancing my Jeep through Rate genius, I was talked into buying extra insurance, gap insurance, etc that I was told could be rolled into the finance amount of the Jeep, and if I ever wanted to cancel it, or if the Jeep was paid off before the end of the loan (which would have been may 2025) , I would be refunded whatever percentage of the insurance wasn't used at that date. Flash forward to January 4, 2022 when I bought a new Jeep through my credit union, and the old Jeep that had been refinanced through Rate genius, in 2020 was paid off. That being said I canceled the extra insurance that I had purchased, and requested the refund for the insurance I didn't use, (never used!) and this is where I find out just how shady, and incompetent this company is. For almost 5 months I went back-and-forth with rate genius about where my refund was for the insurance policy I cancelled. I was transferred to so many different departments, talked to so many different people, agiven so many different phone numbers, I can't even begin to tell you how frustrating this was to try and get ahold of an actual human being who knew what was going on. When I finally did get ahold of somebody on March 28th, almost 3 months AFTER my old Jeep was paid off, rate genius in Austin Texas that refinanced my old Jeep, and talked me into buying the extra insurance, I thought it would be a very simple process to get my refund taken care it, Because after all, that's what they told me when they sold me the extra insurance... "At any time, Angie you can cancel this insurance and be refunded the difference!" I should've no right then and there if it sounds to good to be true it usually is. Aaron the guy that help me refinance my car never bothered to tell me that you have to cancel part of the insurance within 90 days to be refunded that amount, so I instantly lost out on $750 that I never used, then I find out after months of waiting that they sent my thousand dollar refund to the bank that I re-financing my car through back in 2020. I was not sent all the proper documents to sign with my original paperwork. When RateGenius realized this they sent me a supplement that needed to be signed. This was signed and returned. They then called me to tell me my lease buyout paperwork had expired and requested a get another one from my leasing company. My buyout had increased $120. RateGenius asked that I pay this difference, claiming it was not their fault that the buyout expired/was raised. They were not willing to budge whatsoever even though the transaction could have closed on time if the proper paperwork was collected, wouldn't even split the difference with me. I work in lending and regularly provide a lender credit when an issue like this occurs, especially when it is due to a delay in closing and we are so close to doing so. Bad business. They lie about their rates, run your credit and then give you a much higher rate than they advertise. I am a shoe in when it comes to getting approved. They asked for my social security number and stated that it won't be used for a hard check, that it will only be soft. a couple hours later I discovered that they ran a hard check. My experience with RateGenius was horrible. The process was arduous. My loan agent was Ashley Caldwell. I do not recommend her at all. She doesn't care about her customers and is only in the business for the money. Very poor in following up. I left several voicemails for her with the majority of them unreturned. I sent all the requested information to her on Sept 9th, and didn't hear from her until Sept 25th!! It has been over 5 weeks, and still the process is not complete. I got fed up with Ashley's lack of attentiveness and called to talk to her boss. Her boss sent me those documents immediately! What took Ashley 5 weeks to do, her boss did in 5 minutes!! My rate was lowered by only 1.8%, but I took the deal because it lowered my payments. RateGenius is a broker, so they are making a massive profit from the GAP insurance that pushes on you. They charge over $700 when you can usually get it directly from the lender for $200. 10/02/2020 - In response to Alexa: Seriously!!?!??. Today is exactly 6 weeks since I started this process with Rate-NOT-So-Genius, and still, my approved loan is not funded!!!! I spoke with a supervisor last week Thursday and was advised that my loan would be funded. I reached out to her again on Tuesday of this week, because my current lien holder had not been paid off yet. I was asked to again provide information that was already sent to Ashley's email several weeks ago. The supervisor looked in Ashley's email, and sure enough, the information was there. I found this site thru Credit Karma. In 24 hours I was connected to Eddie Sosa. He found me an immediate lender that lowered my monthly payment by $100. He had me send overnight 4 items to mail back, DONE. This process was so simple. I'm happy with the rate I got, there was no "funny" stuff or hoops to jump thru. My goal was to lower my rate and pay more on principle to get this car paid off sooner. I highly suggest rate genius to find you a refi rate, seeing my score had gone up. My experience with RateGenius was not so good. Yes I got a lower rate but they kept emailing me I have to do this and that. then the loan was approved but someone screwed up my account number to do auto transfer and that was not done correctly. Then I went to the website of the bank that did my loan and they told me the check bounced. So I went back to Rate Genius and they said no we sent out two checks. But after more research, the check cleared the bank. So my bank called me to let me know that the account number was transposed. In the mean time I had to move quickly and make a payment on my auto loan because no one had done that. Not happy at all. Started the process and got a text saying I was approved. Called the agent and he told me I was approved for a 6% loan and then he said he needed to make sure they did motorcycles and that he would call me right back. Fast forward 3 days and not one word from him. I sent an email that was not responded to and I called and was told of course he was another call and that he would call me back. It sucks that so many companies are scams and toy never know which to actually trust. Meanwhile my credit score was hit for unnecessary credit checks. Thoroughly disappointed. read more
