Mexican food close to my hotel, it was close and walkable and I did not want to drive. I walked in and was not greeted by anyone though people were waiting. The greeter was not very nice or polite. Had to wait over ten minutes for a single seat? This is a busy place with a lot of staff, but a lot of chaos too was what I noticed and felt most. The food was okay just average, and just average mexican food in a city known for it, is not that great. Anyways, I have eaten a lot of Mexican over the years and this was just average. The location has a tourist attraction feel to it over traditional cuisine. I ordered a Chimichanga with chicken, the fried burrito was okay. The rice and beans boring and just average. I ate about half of it, and let the rest go back. The food average, the service slow and the greeter was not very kind nor professional. In the positive side the staff was very friendly, I found the salsa enjoyable and liked the elevated level of heat, and the chips were hot and fresh. On balance the food was ok but not great. I had carne asada, the asked how I wanted it cooked and it was as well done a steak as I have every been served...three of us had asked for medium rare and all three were extremely well done. Also, I found the restaurant to be dirty. The bathroom was a mess, the floors and windows were dirty. So apparently this is the 2nd location. It was a bit confusing walking in and not knowing which side to go through. When we got in we waited for a bit before being seated. The chips and salsa were perfect! I fell in love with my margarita too. I was bummed that two of the items I ordered they did not have in stock. I hope y'all like chips and salsa, because that's the only good thing we had here. My fiancé and I came for breakfast because we are familiar with the ORIGINAL Raul & Theresa's (which is phenomenal). However, we were very disappointed to receive two orders of the most FATTY and FLAVORLESS green chile we ever had. The meat resembled mucus so much, It looked like a Mucinex commercial. We paid 18 bucks each for a side of rice and beans. The service was mid too. Tables were empty, and we were met with a gloomy food runner. It was hard to focus on enjoying ourselves with every wall colored with an annoying fluorescent paint. Would not recommend to anyone, and will not be returning. read more

We finally tried dine-in at Raul and Theresa's. We arrived for an early Sunday lunch an was shocked to see so many people. We were told that the wait would be 30 minutes, so we hung out. In just 15 minutes, we were given a table. Luckily, there were only 2 in our party. There were many larger parties who I am sure did not have the same luck. The restaurant has an open floor plan and only medium in size. Still it was warm and comfortable. Our server, Veronica, was there in one minute flat. She provided us with chips took our order quickly. This lady was lightning fast an the best part of our experience. Again, the food was meh. We started with Guacamole for the chips. I thought it was excellent. Most of the rest of our dish was not terrible, not great. First, It was plated very nicely. I love fried taco shells, but these looked to be flour tortillas which for me, not nearly as good as fried corn shells. The re-fried beans and rice were pleasing. The enchilada was pretty good and the dish that stood out the most was the bean Tostada. It was excellent with very fresh lettuce. We finished the meal with Sopapilla's to go. Once again Veronica was there with them in a flash. Unfortunately they were not fried enough and came out doughy. Still we had a pleasant lunch and good experience. This used to be a great place, but not anymore. It's become rundown and they tack hidden extras onto the bill. The toilet had a sign above it saying you have to flush multiple times to get a full flush; it took me 9. The food was good, but we were charged an extra $1.50 each for sauce, sour cream and guacamole. Not a problem if the waitress hadn't said it came with it. She said, "It comes with sour cream and guacamole. Is that okay?" I assumed she meant it was included in the price. When I realized we were overcharged on the car ride home, I called and was told everything is extra. When I asked for a breakdown of the bill I was told that the meals were $14.99 even though the menu says $12.99. We will not be back. I expect honesty. There are plenty of good Mexican restaurants; check their reviews beforehand. I went off past experiences from several years ago. Super casual place and fast friendly service. We had beef tacos, cheese enchiladas and a tamale, all of which were really good. The chips were hot and the salsa was spicy. Okay I haven't written a review in a long time. But here goes, I am an Arizona kid and I love me some Mexican food!! This place has the taste of home. I grew up near the original Garcia's restaurant back in the day befit went corporate. This is what Raul and Theresa immediately reminded me of. Service, Salsa and smiles!! Food was very flavorful and tasty, the Margaritas were very good too. Not a big Tequila selection but you come to this place for the food. We had the appetizer platter that could feed the table some Flautas and Machaca beef burrito with green and red sauce. The rice and beans were jamming. This place is my childhood dream! I used to love eating eggs with chorizo growing up. Usually, when you go to places, the eggs are runny or the chorizo isn't cooked properly. Not the same as when Raul owned it, the flavors have changed a little and Raul would have never served ketchup in packets, I find it disheartening that when you sit down for a meal and ask for ketchup that you get packages like you would at a fast food restaurant. The red chili was pretty good and so are the refried beans. The menudo is average at best but there is better out there. The service is wonderful though which makes it a pleasure to visit. The salsa is pretty good also. Overall I would have given it a 4 star but the packages of ketchup knocked it down one notch. read more

This place is great. My wife and I go here on date nights because we know we're going to get some really good foods. The employees here will remember you, and even what you like to drink which is really nice. The nachos and salsa are always good, the chips (sometimes I would like a little more salt) are nearly perfect each time we have them, the salsa is very flavorful however sometimes they are a little heavy handed with the heat (I'm a wimp lol). I cant say I have a favorite dish as I've had many different items and each one has been great. I look forward to R&T's as we call them, and know at the very least I'll have great rice and beans if I dont get to my main dish. The tacos are really good, as are the cheese enchiladas, and the enchilada sauce on top is very flavorful. I'll have the fajitas now and then and they always give you plenty of meat and veggies to make many fajita tacos. I cannot recommend this place enough. I was here last Friday for breakfast before looking at houses and got the chile rellano and chesese enchilada with rice and beans. I also got 3 grilled jalapeños. The chips and salsa were good. I like mixing the hot and mild salsas together. The cheese enchilada, rice and beans were delicious! The chile rellano was done omelette style and it was just ok. I don't know what it was but it tasted weird and left a weird after taste. I'll go back to try other things but I doubt I'll be ordering the chile rellano again. Been here a few times but this is my first review. The wait here is always something to consider. We arrived at 1:30pm on a Saturday and we were told it would be a 30 minutes wait. Actually only waited 10-15 minutes. The bar area and patio were closed. The small dinning room was loud (in a pleasant way) and there was a bit of an open kitchen concept. Our party of four loved the chips and salsa. The chips were cooked to perfection, just the right thickness and saltiness. The blended salsa had had a strong tomato base with cilantro and a medium heat. There were some larger chunks of tomato in the salsa. As an entree I had combination 23-two beef tacos and a cheese enchilada with rice and beans. The portion was well worth the 14.99 price tag. Let's taco about the shredded beef tacos. Golden fried tortilla, wrapped around a large portion of nicely seasoned shredded beef, topped with shredded lettuce, cheese and a sprinkling of fresh tomatoes. It was a good choice. The cheese enchilada was the star of the show. The deep red salsa was smokey and smooth. The cheese blend used was melted to perfection. No olive or other unnecessary garnishes. The refried beans were full of flavor and the rice was fluffy and just would you expect. Mixed reviews from my lunch l partners. Everyone agreed the cheese enchilada, rice and beans were good. The chile rellenos were not a table favorite. The omelet style, literally an omelet over a chile, was lacking in flavor and depth. Why 3 stars, while our server was excellent, customer service is painfully slow. Long waiting times are not due to too many customers taking too long to eat, instead it's a dinning room of patrons, eating at a reasonable pace but not enough staff to take care of them. It took almost 15 minutes standing at the cash register to pay for our bill. Goodyear has a lot of places to choose from. Gave this place a shot disregarding the lack of appeal from the outside my family and I walked in optimistic with an opened mind. Upon entry the lighting was dim and uninviting. Entry was confusing because there are two ways to get in and the lay out is choppy. It was warm with no air conditioning on almost uncomfortably warm. The inside of the building seemed dark and depressing on the inside. the place was not well lit and uninviting over all. They have two hooded stoves that could have been used in its hay day but with the lights being turned off it made the place seem dark and run down. We were greeted swiftly and we sat down within minutes of entering. Looking around they had tables that were filled with dirty plates from customers who were dining in before we arrived. this left a very unsanitary feel to the experience. We stayed optimistic. We were greeted by two different servers so it was a bit confusing as to who to ask if we needed things and we felt rushed as one would come up right after the other to ask what we wanted. We had our toddler with us so we asked for a high chair seat for and the seat was filthy, sticky and visibly soild. The belt was caked on with old food residue of previous user and we could tell that the seats are not being washed if EVER. We ordered asada chimichangas and it was not good. of course it is a fried burrito so we kept that in mind but the first bite tasted like old oil. The tortilla was soggy and you could tell that the oil was either old and possibly not hot enough when the food was being prepared. The meat was poor quality steak and tasted like ground beef with no flavor. The rice and beans were great however the main piece of food was undesirable and my husband and I picked at our plates. It was served with old guacamole that tasted like it should have been thrown out a day or two prior. After getting our food, service stopped completely and our drinks were left empty for half of our siting time until we asked for refills. Our son got a quesadilla with bean and rice which he did enjoy, so at least the basics are covered. As costumers left, their plates were left on the table with food, again, leaving multiple tables sit in filth while we ate. Empty cups, eaten food plates with dirty napkin's, it was unsightly to see while eating. Staff left the bussing cart out while people ate and we felt the lack of urgency to clean up between customers. While we waited for our drinks a staff member ate in the corner (possibly on break under a dark kitchen area that was not being use) but leaving not staff in the hostess are for incoming customers. Although we tried to keep an open mind we see why this place has a 3 star and why the parking lot is so dead. We will unfortunately not be going back but wish this post can be helpful for the owners. read more

I have been wanting to visit this place ever since I saw them on the news stating that they are a 52 year old restaurant that is open for take out as a featured restaurant on our local news. Now that places are seating, my friends and I ventured out at 1pm for lunch. I am all about supporting local family owned restaurants. Okay, the reasoning for my 3 star (?) The service was bad. We had to ask for chips and salsa three times, I ordered a side of sour cream and also received Guac (I love Guac but I don't want to pay for things I didn't order and yes, I brought it to her attention) We all had to ask for refills multiple times. She NEVER came back to our table to ask us how things were or if we needed anything. The food was good - I ordered chicken fajitas, I asked if she had a lunch portion she said "yes", yet they were 15.99 - Did I get the lunch portion? I don't know. She never came back for me to ask. I think the food is pricey for lunch. I ordered my husband something to go, my fajitas, an iced tea and Guac that I didn't order and it was $41.00 bucks with tip. For lunch - just a bit more than I would like to pay. I may venture back to give it a second chance as I was told this was the better of the two locations (Goodyear) Maybe, I will try the original location and see how it goes read more

If you are in the west valley and you are looking for a great meal, look no further than Raul & Theresa's. Michael and his staff really have their finger on the pulse of great tasting, AUTHENTIC, Mexican food. While I've yet to eat in the actual restaurant, the ambiance looks esthetically pleasing and the noise level seems to be equally as inviting. I've used R&T's catering for multiple events this year alone and everyone I've fed has vowed to visit. The food portions are aligned with the pricing but the service and punctuality of it is unmatched. I will continue to use this restaurant as my go to for events in the future and you should definitely give them a try. FYI, the chili colorado (red chili) with a fresh flour tortilla is unbeatable! We used to go here when my mom lived in Estrella. I had really fond memories of the place. We won't be back. We went for the "all you could eat tacos and enchiladas." Well, the tacos were really small, they were the crunchy tacos we old school Arizona's eat, but these were the tortillas were the size of street tacos. They were tasty, however. The enchiladas, not tasty. They were obviously made up earlier in the day and just sat and got hard and sad. The service was TERRIBLE. There were a couple of old guys (cowboys?) at the bar throughout the time we were there. Another couple of guys were there when we arrived, but they left midway through our meal. And yet, we were IGNORED!!!! I guess that's how you save on "all you can eat" -- you never check back if anyone wants anything else. read more

What a truly disappointing couple of experiences I have had here. I've grown up in the Avondale area, so I've had plenty of trips over the years to their original location. Never been impressed. Now with the new location I thought I'd finally give it a try. What a poor decision. We got seated after about an hour wait and then it took about 15 minutes to even get acknowledged by anyone for service. It was sooooo hot inside, like the heater was on or something. Hot enough that we were starting to break into a mild sweat. I asked one of the workers if it was possible to sit outside or turn the heat off. He said "Our patio is closed, and don't bother complaining about the heat unless you have to work here for 8 hours like I do." Went with my neighbors to get some breakfast. Two of us ordered the menudo... pretty bland. And it wasn't even hot. Like, mildly warm but not like how a bowl of menudo should be served. Neighbor ordered posole... literally tasted like they dumped an entire salt shaker into the bowl because it was sooooo salty. She ate about half the bowl until grossing out and giving up. Somehow this wasn't enough for me... I still had to give it ONE MORE TRY about two weeks later. Food was still subpar and the service was just as bad as the first time. Will never go back and will not ever recommend this place to anyone. read more

I give an overall rating of three for these reasons, the food is very good - and the service was better than average. However the floors and tables are filthy. There was a child's hand print on our table in the grease, and the floors look like they have not been really clean in weeks. Love the food but I could not help but wonder how clean the kitchen is. I'm a local patron since they open back in 1970's the dad & mom ran the original restaurant off highway 85, they sold and mike opened the other Raul & Thersa north of the I-10 on Litchfield rd. We have never had any issues with their food. The staff has forever been kind. Quick serving and the food taste wonderful. read more

Came in for lunch alone only me. Had to wait for four minutes as employees walked around me to be seated. Took over 15 min to take my order; They were not busy (only 1 table of 7 and 2 tables of 2). 2 boys and the work looks like a manager running around preparing the back room for what was obviously to be a big group coming. Chips and salsa good. Large group served and leaving, still no food. Took my food 30 min to arrive after ordering. Food was excellent if you're not afraid away.
