Raul & Theresa's used to be my favorite restaurant when visiting my daughter in Goodyear. My wife and I used to live in the area and frequented this restaurant regularly before moving to Tucson. I loved their green chili and would often just go to the restaurant and purchase containers of green chili to take home. To my surprise upon this visit at their Litchfield Rd location the green chili was absolutely deplorable. The pork pieces of meat had globs of fat attached. The green chili sauce didn't have enough green chili in it to even call it green chili sauce. Their green chili sauce used to be outstanding with an intense green chili flavor. So much so I would go out of my way to go to the restaurant. Obviously I no longer need to do that. I may only conjecture, but at my visit the restaurant had more empty tables than tables with customers. Only four tables with customers. I should have listened to my son-in-law (Hispanic) he warned me the food was "awful". It would appear that they're current process is to make what used to be outstanding food as cheaply as possible. Included in that summary I would describe the pathetic cheese enchilada which had little cheese and the poorest tasting red enchilada sauce I've EVER had. I usually eat Mexican food two to three times a week so let me add I do not understand how this restaurant stays open. The refried beans also flavorless. I asked the waitress if they made their own enchilada sauce and refried beans. She asserted they did. If that's the case then maybe they should start buying Rosarita canned refried beans and enchilada sauce from Hatch, NM. If the chef doesn't love what he/she is doing then he should get out of the kitchen! The quality of the food reflects the chef's efforts and these efforts are pathetic. It's obvious he/she just doesn't care and isn't vested in producing a quality product. The founders of this restaurant would be ashamed at what is being served to their customers. Go anywhere else, including Macayos. read more

Have been coming to this restaurant ever since I was a young child with my grandparents. They are regulars here and come here at least once a week. Sad to say I will never be eating here again as todays experience was pretty awful. They have been going downhill for years now and every visit is worse than the last... today I order the shredded chicken flautas and when I got the last bite, there was a piece of raw chicken. I am 6 months pregnant and got extremely grossed out, let the server know and she immediately got the plate and went to the kitchen came back with the plate and said the cook said it was a tomato and the piece on the plate was gone. I told her it was not tomato and she went to the back again but never came back to the table to apologize. They didn't offer to even comp the meal. The other server we had never checked on us and forgot for items we asked for them decided to bring some of them when the rest of the table finished their food and still tried to charge us for it even though we didn't want it anymore. Food was obviously dangerously disgusting and service was HORRIBLE. I would not have written this review if they apologized and simply comped my meal, but they didn't want to do either. Went on a Wednesday for their special. Felt like I had dinner in a shabby cafeteria. Food splattered all over the wall next to us at the table and paint peeling off the walls. Half the lights are out in the building, which is probably purposeful to hide the rest of the restaurant. The tacos and enchiladas we had we're good but nothing out of the ordinary or anything special that I would ever come back for. The service was incredibly slow from the moment we got there and never really got much better during the time we were there. If this was the only restaurant around I would say go there. The food wasn't the end of the world and you could live with the rest if you were really hungry. But if there were any other restaurant around, you'd be better off trying something you didn't know then eating here. There's no atmosphere and you don't feel like you're in a restaurant having a good night out. This place makes me sad for what it could be knowing that it has potential and seeing it wasted. read more

I am going to counter the person who recently wrote a review complaining about 'packets of ketchup because it is like a fast-food experience'!!! Give me a break!!!! Raul and Theresa's are PAYING a LOT more for packets of ketchup to keep things SAFE for their customers!!! I would much rather have packets of ketchup than handle a ketchup bottle that has been touched by DOZENS of people during and post Covid!!!! Come on, the ketchup tastes the same or better!! What is the big deal??? What is wrong with people these days?? ANYHOW, the food is fabulous, the prices are fair, the portions are big, and the service is good!! Horrible service. The wait was at least an 1h. We got our drinks 30 minutes after we asked. The chips wernt fresh along with the salsa. Our food came fresh but I only liked the beans and the carne asada. Dont even think about getting anything more or you will have to stay for another 1h or more. read more

We've been here before and have always had great service. On our last visit we were not waited on. They had several dirty tables that had not been bussed. They had to move dirty dishes from one table to the next for us to sit. Everyone who was seated right before us had received their drinks and were ordering food. Absolutely best Pasole. I love coming the food here tastes really authentic and delicious. I do wish however they would invest in the booth and seating inside . Some stuff while dinning inside is so worn and old. The restaurant sometimes has an odd sewage kind of smell inside . The booth seats sink in so deep . I LOVE this place. Never a bad experience here.... I love the people, the service is always good...not fast, but always good. Above all though they have the best tacos in the valley! Wednesday night is the taco special, it also comes with very good cheese enchiladas, but I always just ask for tacos only! An off day. The West Valley has had its share of Mexican restaurants. However, I get tired off the typical version of Mexican food drowned in sauce, rice, and heavy beans. Today, I decided to give Raul and Theresa's a try. The dishes at Raul and Theresa's looked really good. That's why I feel bad saying that my meal today just wasn't very good. Today, I had the chorizo, eggs, beans, and tortilla breakfast. The chorizo was somewhat over cooked and just wasn't very flavorful, as were the beans. I was disappointed with my meal. I missed an opportunity to review Raul and Theresa's a month ago. It was my birthday, so of course I was in the mood for Mexican food. Unfortunately, they were so busy (an hour wait on a rainy Saturday) that we chose to eat elsewhere. Still, for being so busy on a non-holiday, I was intrigued and wanted to come back. Today is just another Saturday, so obviously I was in the mood for Mexican. My girlfriend and I enjoyed lunch here today. She is very familiar with the Litchfield Road location. According to her, the Menudo is one of her favorites. The interior decor is bright and cheerful to say the least. We were greeted and seated promptly, received our drinks quickly, and got to work enjoying the chips and salsa. Very good salsa! It doesn't burn your tongue, but you will feel the spice once you start perspiring. Today, I chose my entree in a different fashion. Instead of comparing something I am familiar with, I chose something that was different from anything I've tried anywhere. My choice was the sour cream enchiladas. It's misleading because the enchiladas are stuffed with cubed beef in a green chile sauce and topped with sour cream. And I had them add some cheese. These were some of the best enchiladas I've ever tried! The green chile sauce has so much good flavor and the sour cream only made it better! The rice was good, but average. However, the beans were absolutely delicious. Clearly they are homemade. I'm glad I've finally discovered this restaurant, even if it's been around since the late 60's. The restaurant is not very clean, the service isn't great, staff not very friendly & the food is not good at all. The chips were cold and stale. I ordered chicken enchiladas with green sauce and the sauce was green chili beef that you would put inside a burrito, not sauce for an enchilada. And I ordered chicken enchiladas since I don't eat beef, so the thick green beef sauce on the top was not appealing. Rice and beans were mediocre. Too salty. Raul and Theresa's is good, especially if you are looking for a Mexican place that isn't a chain in Avondale/Goodyear. The inside is a bit stark and not very warm. Mostly tables and a few booths. It is very popular though. I had the pozole to start and rolled tacos for my entree. The pozole was fabulous. It's a huge serving and tons of meat. They serve all the fixings on the side. The rolled tacos were good, but needed the guacamole they were served with. I probably wouldn't order them again. I will return though to try some other things. Be aware, the original location on MC85 is no longer owned by the same family. They sold MC85 and brought the recipes to this location. That's right, the "better" "I prefer the original" "I always go to MC85 location" is no longer the same family! Enjoy! read more

It's been a while since I've been back to AZ. On my recent visit I made a random stop here to get my Mexican fill and I loved it so much I went back the next day. Margaritas are yum and the food was unbelievable. I'm picky about my tamales and I was very happy with their beef tamales. I wanted to drink a gallon of their mole sauce! Honestly the worst Mexican food I've ever eaten and on top of that the service sucked. The chips were taco bell quality, beans were from a can, fajitas were so bland that I had to pour salsa all over them to even half way choke it down. They sure are terrible for a Mexican restaurant run by Mexican folks that claims to be "Arizona's Finest". This is my favorite Mexican restaurant ever! I've told many people about it and it's all their favorites now as well. My fiancé and I come here all the time and it's always excellent! The complimentary chips and salsa are amazing. There is a hot and a mild salsa. Both are delicious depending on your preference. Service is always fast and friendly! I've never had any problems here. I always get the cheese enchiladas and they are SO good. I love them! They've got to be the best ones I've ever had anywhere. The food always comes out nice and hot. The prices are good. Every time I go it's around $30 for 2. The restaurant is where you have a receipt and pay at the front. The only con I can say is the decor is pretty basic and some of the tables are wobbly. So maybe spruce up the interior and fix or get newer tables. The foods great though. And that's all that matters. So I still give it a 5 star! We got a cheese crisp and I got a bean burrito enchilada style and it was delicious. The staff is friendly and was making sure everything was alright.
