Oh, the memories.. I really wanted breakfast but it was like 4pm and that menu option wasn't available but the host mentioned that they have a Happy Hour deal at the bar so I figured why not. Let me check out what they have to offer. They had some happy hour beverages but I'm not a big drinker. Besides I had to go to work. But for those who like wine, one type of IPA and margaritas, they had some special specials on those drinks. And on the food, can't remember what they really had besides the Mac and cheese dumplings, which I have never heard of, but I was ready to explore. So I ordered the dumplings with the cheese dipping sauce and they were OK. Not really my thing and I don't know if I will order them again per se but they were OK in my opinion. Next visit I'll try to get there for Breakfast/Brunch or dinner because I know those menus have some great options!

The Burg Loft hit me with some lofty burgsquirt this time around. So lofty and luscious that I had to return to update my review. I rarely do that, it's so rare that you'd call it raw. Hit em with a claw. Chomping down at the jaw I roar a raw roar of surprise and roar so joyous in nature that it reminds a chicken that it was once a Tyrannosaurus rex. Always remember who you really are under that grease ball facade you keep. The years have served ya well, Burger Loft. This classic was scrumptious. One of the best double smashed I've had. Not overly salty, not overly greasy, not too crisp, not undercooked, super juicy, great taste, perfect amount of cheese and a nice homemade sauce on a solid but undemanding bun. I love an undemanding bun that deserves some funk and crunk out of some quality meat. Woof woooooooooof. Awooooooo. Oh no. The blue moon beckons me. I must wrap this up quickly - You won't like me when the clock strikes midnight. Simple. Traditional. A classic. Burger Loft - A true BILF. A fine wine. Come early if you can so you don't miss anything. The tour is really cool - I could listen to their seedy stories all day. It is an incredible meal. Everything is fresh, and it's just amazing to try all these flavorful veggies and realize that all food can and should taste this good. Our starters include a fresh stalk of fennel, cucumber with yogurt, spinach lettuce to be snipped with scissors, etc, etc, omg so much more. We got a lot of asparagus and peas made in many ways, and it was magical. There are fascinating food lessons throughout the meal, as we're introduced to the four plants in the buckwheat family with a delicious "horseradish tofu" and buckwheat dumplings in dashi. Purple Passion Asparagus is literally the best vegetable I've ever tasted - all the sweetness of asparagus amplifed with literally none of the unpleasant fibrous stalks. I also loved trying an egg from a waste-fed chicken. The bread was pretty burnt on the bottom so the taste was a bit off-putting. Unfortunate as it was really interesting to try the single udder butters. Getting to see chef Dan up close was awesome (sorry, chef, I'm the weirdo who took 50 photos of you). And yes, I did ask and the staff assured me it was okay. Every table gets a different menu, and I can honestly say I loved everything I ate. Altogether, it's the most amazing experience - I have never sat down to dinner at 5 PM and not left the table until 11, and the food is so fresh and so good that I still felt good after eating so much. My only advice is that you should definitely ask for something if you want it. My fault for forgetting to ask - I would have really liked to try the veal, and it also sucked to get just steak while the table next to me got bone marrow. That said, I would still highly recommend this experience and would absolutely come back for more.

We loved the farm tour that started our evening (eating a stalk of the best asparagus I've ever had plucked straight from the ground was a definite highlight) and getting to learn more about Blue Hill's philosophy of farm to table cooking and using as many parts of each animal as possible. Service was attentive but not stuffy, and everyone we interacted with that night was personable and enthusiastic about their work. For dinner service we sat in a corner booth and listened to the soothing sounds of bird calls interspersed throughout the evening. We began a litany of courses that consisted of the farm's freshest produce of the season, which was delightfully hands-on. Some of our favorites of the evening came later, in the buckwheat 4 ways course and the two types of asparagus, as well as the best celttuce preparation I've had. The field trip to the kitchen was fun and we got some delicious buckwheat chips and cow bone rind brie. Even though we didn't love the toughness of the dairy cow that was served in one of our later plates, I appreciated the thought that went into the conception of the course, and there were more than enough wow/extremely delicious other components & courses to balance that out entirely. As a ceramics enthusiast, a lot of the plateware was also very beautiful, especially the pieces that were sourced from dairy cow bones. What a lovely way to honor all parts of the animal! A tip to try the non-alcoholic beverages/mocktails if you're not otherwise doing a pairing. We had some excellent drinks throughout the night at a very reasonable price point for a restaurant of this caliber and I was thoroughly impressed by the thought and care put into every component of the menu. The beverage menu itself was printed on a lovely map of the grounds and I was able to take one home along with a polaroid of us in the kitchen and a small loaf of whole-wheat bread that I ate with butter in the following week. Just a delightful experience all around and I'll be thinking about it fondly for many years to come!

My son really enjoyed his chicken sausage, egg and cheese sandwich with whole fried potatoes and a short snack of chocolate chip pancakes. I enjoyed my baby of course along with it. I ordered the huevos rancheros that were labeled that spicy, but it was not spicy at all. it really needed more beans and the dish overall was just lacking flavor. It was more refreshing than savory or warm. We both got fresh juices. Both were delicious and the service was great attentive welcoming, and we were seated within half an hour of waiting in line after 10:30 AM on a Saturday. We may have been seated earlier, but I don't recall exactly when we started waiting in line. If you are a party bigger than two they have a separate line which may be a longer wait but it's more of a waitlist line. Whereas the other line is you waiting in line when you get seated as tables become available for parties of one or two people. Ambience is pretty laid-back and relaxed. There is parking at the main level of this plaza but also there is a parking garage below with more parking spots available.

The spinach however was maybe the best I've had. Not sure how they made it so good but wasn't simply with garlic. I had a piece of the branzino and thought it was also tasty with a nice fried crunch. The iced tea was perfectly caffeinated but maybe a tad small. It is supposedly unlimited but I didn't take advantage of that. The restrooms were also clean. The vibe inside is so cool, chill hip hop music playing throughout and I genuinely added about five songs to my music library before we even finished eating. That kind of atmosphere is hard to find. The food was incredible. I ordered the buffalo chicken tenders with waffles and everything about it was perfect. The tenders were crispy and glazed beautifully in buffalo sauce. The waffle was not your average waffle, it had this wheat cinnamon style to it that made it stand out, soft, fluffy and absolutely delicious. It came with butter and what I believe was an herb butter as well and whatever it was it was incredible. My fiancé ordered eggs Andy style, scrambled with bacon and toast, and the real standout on his plate were the potatoes. Crushed style, perfectly seasoned with what tasted like brown sugar and paprika. We are still talking about those potatoes. Service was amazing and the whole experience just felt effortless and fun. If you are in the Lower East Side and looking for an incredible brunch spot with amazing food and even better vibes, Sweet Chick is the one. Do not sleep on this place.

This one honestly hurt my heart…read more.. Y'all... this review hurts my heart to write because I am a Sweet Chick fan. Not a "I tried it once" fan. A real fan. I've been going to Sweet Chick since there was only one location in Brooklyn. I was literally traveling from Jersey to Brooklyn just for the food, the drinks, and the experience, and I never minded doing it because it was always worth it. So when they opened the Ludlow Street location, I was excited because now I didn't have to make the trip to Brooklyn every time I wanted my chicken and waffles. Back then, Sweet Chick was an experience. They had the big specials board with rotating waffles, desserts, and seasonal items. Their chicken and waffles never missed. I honestly can't remember ever leaving disappointed. So this review is really hard for me. Back on June 26th, after work, my mom and I decided to grab dinner. I work in the LES, and she suggested Sweet Chick. I did tell her my brother Robert had gone recently and said it had changed a lot, but we figured we'd see for ourselves. We got there around 9-ish. The first thing we noticed... It was HOT. Not warm. Hot. Like, "why does it feel like a sauna in here?" hot. We've had enough hot weather this summer, so walking into a restaurant with little to no air conditioning was honestly uncomfortable. We actually debated leaving before we even ordered, but decided to stick it out. Unfortunately... it never got better. The service also wasn't what I remembered. I'm really big on customer service, and Sweet Chick has always had amazing service whenever I've gone. This time it just felt different. The attentiveness wasn't there, and the overall vibe just felt... off. Even the menu has changed. My mom used to love their kale salad, but now it's made differently with things like dates, and she wasn't interested in it anymore. For drinks, my mom ordered an espresso martini, and unfortunately she really didn't enjoy it. It was pretty bitter, and we couldn't quite figure out what was off about it. If I'm ordering an espresso martini, I have certain expectations, and this one just didn't hit for her. I ordered the Queen of New York, and I actually really enjoyed my drink. No complaints there. Now... the food. I ordered the Maple Chipotle Chicken & Sweet Potato Waffle. And this is where my heart really broke. Years ago, when they first introduced the sweet potato waffle as a special, I remember it actually tasting like sweet potato. This one... Honestly just tasted like a regular waffle. I kept looking for that sweet potato flavor, and it just wasn't there. The chicken itself was crispy and cooked well, but the maple chipotle sauce wasn't evenly coated. Some bites were really good, while other pieces were dry because they barely had any sauce on them. Another thing longtime Sweet Chick fans might notice is the butter service. I remember getting three or four different flavored butters, each in their own little container. This time we got two flavors together in one cup. It's a small thing, but it was one of those details that always made Sweet Chick feel special. My mom ordered the Carolina BBQ Chicken with the Grilled Corn Waffle. I'll be fair--her waffle absolutely tasted like a corn waffle. I tried it, and it was really good. She enjoyed her meal more than I did, although she also had a few pieces of chicken that weren't evenly coated with sauce and were a little dry. Overall, she thought it was okay. And I think that's really the word for this visit. Okay. Not terrible. But not the Sweet Chick we remembered. Maybe that's why this visit hit me so hard. When you've loved a place for years, you naturally compare it to what you know it can be. I genuinely hope this was just an off night because I have so many great memories here, and I'd honestly love to come back one day and have the Sweet Chick experience that made me fall in love with it in the first place. Because this restaurant has meant a lot to me over the years, and I'm rooting for it. I really am.
