We went in at 7pm sharp and waited 30 minutes, 10 minutes before they would have anything available. They then said carelessly that we do not have a table and that we should've been tabled before anyone else since we waited. I just.. this place... it's so good. It's not traditional, it's just amazing. These rolls were fantastic, and the sushi chef was a lot of fun to talk to. The special rolls were amazing, the chili oil they use is to die for. The flavors they get from these rolls is way over the top but LIT AF. I have never gotten a piece of Nigiri that large, and at first I thought, "What is this, this is too big, this is ridiculous." It was by far the best piece of salmon I've ever had, no joke, the best. I have eaten a lot of sushi in my day, this was something special. If you think this place serves ridiculous, over-the-top sushi rolls you would be right, but it's amazing and you'll love every minute of it. read more

AMAZING! Best sushi near Modesto. Loved the ambience of the location and in the heart of downtown which made it extra fun. Great place to enjoy some delicious sushi with friends any day of the week. I would give the food 5 stars, but I did remove a star because of the service. After being given water, we never saw our server nor did she bother to come by for a long time. Without our prompting, the nice hostess came over to check on us and she ended up taking our order while our server was MIA. I was tempted to do 3 stars considering we only saw our server twice after that, when she brought our food and when she gave us the check. I ordered Dante's Inferno, spicy tuna roll, dragon roll, and the tiger roll. All were soooo delicious. I especially like the drizzle of teriyaki and spicy mayonnaise ok the rolls. The rolls are large and in charge! Our server was so nice, we ordered 3 saké bombs and she brought 4 and I am soooo glad she did because we were turnt! Lol. Great service! I went for a dinner with a few friends. The servers Shelby and Gabe treated us with great hospitality. Gabe was helpful and even fixed the wobbly chair my friend sat on. This is best Sushi in Modesto. The rice is great and the sauces for dipping are a little different in a good way. The sushi chef likes questions and he prepares professionally. Our food was very good but it was very pricey and his roll was small for 16 dollars. The chicken was honestly perfect and delicious. In all, I would eat here again but it's just expensive. read more

This place has great food and drinks. However, it is absolutely ridiculous on the weekend. I made a reservation who says prior for 730pm on a Friday night and have waited over an hour to be seated. All the while watching people who are just walking in and walk straight to a table. DO NOT HAVE RESERVATIONS if that is the case.... food is good drinks are good. I assumed I've already written a review for Raw since I've been going here since inception but I guess not. Hands down the best Sushi in the Central Valley. Always fresh, sushi is plated like a work of art and everything on the menu is excellent. My favorites are the Dante Inferno Roll, BTS Roll and of course the garlic edamame. The food is amazing, always has been, but the Covid safety precautions are definitely not being enforced!! I have been to other restaurants where they do their best to keep people at a distance, require masks for customers and all employees wear masks, this is definitely not the case at Raw, which is disappointing. The restaurant was packed to rim, most people walked in without a mask and were not being asked to wear one. Some of the employees did not have a mask on either. It was also so loud with how packed it was that it was hard to have a conversation with the person sitting across from me. Definitely will not be going back any time soon. read more

So, this is long overdue: I left a nasty review years ago because I was full of myself and inexperienced in leaving a proper review. I'm eating my words as this place has won me over. It's not a traditional sushi place but it is delicious. The quality of their fish and even just their cuts are incredible. I remember before I was shocked at the toppings on some of the sashimi or nigiri but I came to realize they're not just offering the fish but the whole bite as a combination of flavors. We have come to this location multiple times and have never been disappointed with the quality of their food and customer service. Waited 45 minutes to be sat (which was fine) but once we were sat (right next to door at table that had been empty the entire time we waited) we were ignored for 10 minutes. We decided to leave as to me that is usually a sign of what's to come. To be fair they were crazy busy but that's still not an excuse for bad service. We did observe plenty of people hanging out and chatting. I did not see any management moving out and about anywhere. I'm sure the sushi is good but it's obviously a pseudo hipster place in Hicksville trying to be more than what it is. I love Raw for lunch, doesn't matter what you order the food is always great. The atmosphere is nice for both business lunches or catching up with friends. The only con is they can be super slow which becomes a problem when you are on a lunch hour. Fortunately that isn't the norm here and they typically are serving quick. read more

Okay, I think the central valley does not know sushi. This is not a sushi place. Very limited menu and rolls are covered in salad and rancid sauces. Can't just get sushi and unless you want a minimum of 9 pieces of sashimi and no choices, its what they give you. The waitress took 30 minutes to even come say hello. It was like being at a diner. We got the beef carpaccio which was a stirfry with barely medium rare flank steak. Very misleading!!!! The beef wrapped asparagus was jerked around limp and old asparagus. The scallop roll we got had a sauce that clearly was so old it was rancid and we couldn't eat it. Pepsi only and we were not told! We will not be back! read more

How does someone who doesn't care much for seafood fall in love with a sushi place? I don't know....I can't really explain it. It's just something that happened. My experience with sushi hasn't been wonderful. I've walked into places that smell like someone opened up a case of Friskies, and it would just make me nauseous. The food here smells wonderful, a testament to its freshness. And, above all, it tastes fabulous. Service and ambiance were great, and the place was clean (a great way to judge an establishment's cleanliness is to check out their bathroom, and the one here was spotless.) We were not happy with our experience here at all. We had a reservation Friday night for 7 people. We waited a really long time just to order, then we ordered and the server very rarely came back to check up on us. We got our bill and gratuity was included at 18%. Personally, I'm a server elsewhere and I'm all for gratuity on parties. But if you know your getting 18% you return to the freaking table and give 18% service. We came in to put our name down right when they opened and still had to wait a good hour to be seated. We came in on a Friday night, but we already had made reservations ahead of time so we did not have to wait more than a minute before they had a table ready for us. The atmosphere on a Friday night was nice - it reminded me of dining in the Bay Area at like elephant bar or Santana Row - where the lights are dim and the conversations are flowing. We don't really explore much with sushi so we stuck to chicken items on the menu like the spicy chicken teriyaki on the appetizer menu and it was pretty good. We also had the chicken teriyaki roll and crunchy california roll - both were up to par. I wouldn't say this is my favorite sushi spot, but so far the best one I've been to in Modesto because the food feels fresh and the presentation of the food makes it seem like you are dining fancy. read more
