It's been literally 4 years since I've been to Umi (check my last review). With so many Japanese restaurants around, there are plenty to choose from. Decided to go back here since many of my staff love Umi Sushi. As for myself, my last bad experience (during COVID) I was content to not come back. But I'm always about giving places a second chance and decided to come here for lunch since I was treating for lunch. So first thing I learned was their 50% off sushi from Monday to Thursday during lunch hours. It definitely seems a big attraction since when we got here at noon, there was a lot of people eating. Menu of sushi can be overwhelming with 3 pages of sushi with photos. It was hard to know what to get just because it can take awhile to read the description for each sushi. So started first with spicy garlic edamame- 5 stars Basically edamame with a sriracha mayo sauce with sesame oil. Can be messy if you use your fingers. As for me, I usually use the chopsticks to grab the edamame and eat it there. It's pretty good. Nice kick. Would get it again I couldn't decide so went safe and got the super California roll which basically has unagi on top of the Cali roll center. Rice was soft but held the sushi well and overall, was satisfactory. Super Cali- 5 stars Tried the titanic roll- similar to the super Cali but was deep fried rolls so came later than all the others and was temperature hot. 4 stars The other rolls were Jayjay roll- had cream cheese so not something I would order The Miss Kim roll looked good and again similar to Mine but was topped with tuna. Overall, had a good meal. Staff was okay. They didn't check on us for refills and only came to give our check while some people are still eating Service - 3.5 stars Anyways, felt like an updated review was in order and have lifted my ban on eating at a place I said I wouldn't come back. read more

We have been meaning to try this Sushi Restaurant for sometime. I keep driving by and I said today is the day ! My husband and Son dropped by around 1:30pm . We hadn't eaten all day . So,a Sushi Pig Out was in order ! We started w/ Baked Mussels. Very good a bit of a different take on how I've usually had them . A bit more sweet and savory. We all Liked them! Ordered Hamachi/ Sashimi. Perfect slices, Not too thin or thick - like butter :) We were able to order off the 1/2 price menu ( Monday- Thursday) - score We ordered the Blue Ocean Roll - $8.85 It was good a bit too mild for our tastes. The J&H Roll - $8.95 Really Great - We Really Enjoyed this one . We had the Deluxe Spicy Tuna Roll -$13.95 So, Good ! Just the right Spice ! Our Son ordered the Orange Blossom Roll - $13.95 And the Orange Head Roll-$10.95 Which he really enjoyed. I liked the Ambiance of the restaurant- just a bit dim - for a relaxed vibe . I had never been here before when my spouse asked to try it out on Tuesday evening. Im not a sushi person but they have other foods for people who dont like sushi! My spouse got two diffrent sushi rolls and I got a bento box. I ordered the Honey Spicy Chicken Bento Box with Gyoza! It was so yummy! I am a fairly picky eater and the texture of the chicken was perfect! The Gyoza was crunchy and flavorful! Our waiter was very kind and made sure we had everything we needed. She had a great personality and was overall just a pleasure! The restaurant was clean and relaxing. The decor was nice and eating here was just an overall great experience! Welp. This place felt below average. I do want to point out that the service here was great. Service was attentive and friendly, and definitely busy. So I admire the service work ethic. For that reason, I'm not lowering my review. Now the food... I order a shrimp appetizer and it felt bland. The sauce was way too sweet. For almost $9, it certainly felt like a rip off. Then I got a salmon katsu bento box and half of the items weren't good. The Salmon tasted bland and the katsu sauce tasted nasty. Surprisingly the rice was good. I found it warm, and fluffy. The California rolls were the worst rolls I've ever had. The crab had a weird taste with the sauce they had used. I think Safeway rolls tasted better imo. The salad was good. I enjoyed the sesame sauce that was used. Not sure if it's authentic Japanese but it was tasty. My bf roll was incorrect. His was suppose to be deep fried but it was not. He had also said his rice tasted as if they used tap water. Other than that, for the bill being $50, I would say it's not worth your coins. With that money, I much rather spend it elsewhere on knowing the quality of the food is tasty. Thinking about sushi and a good deal stop in. The service was very on point. We never worried about an empty glass or what to order. Our server was very attentive. We watched the game, drank sushi bombs and gobbled down a few rolls with fried tempura. Oh the miso soup was pretty tasty too. My dinner partner said they have really good deals on rolls on certain days. I think he said Monday through Thursday but im not positive. We went on Sunday and I didn't pay so I'm not sure how much dinner cost. Definitely going again and wanting to try other options. read more

I know people go crazy over this sushi. It was just ehh for me. I think the lobster roll across the street is way better. our server was fine. She just didn't know the menu very well. The side salad is not a traditional Japanese sesame sauce , rather, it's sweet. I do not care for that... but if you do, you will love it. I'm also the girl that doesn't care for sweet relish or miracle whip either. If you do... that's your prerogative, but it's not for me. It was sooo cold in there too. I like to be warm and toasty while eating so I can take my coat off. It was raining outside and they had door open. We did ask them to shut door as they sat us near it. My husband asked if they could remove avocado from his California roll in his bento box due to a food allergy and was told no because it was "complimentary" even though we were paying for the meal. Also, my husband accidentally spilled some water on the ground, started cleaning it up with a napkin, and then the server came over and handed him more napkins to keep cleaning the floor and walked away. Service is okay, We did come in at 8:40 but they did have a couple tables and a large table. The restaurant is cute and have a cool sushi bar and very good music. It's pretty clean inside and fresh. I had the bento box with two choices and i choose teriyaki salmon and California rolls at $18. I was only given two sushi, next time I'll do the $14 option of just one choice and order a hand roll. Salmon teriyaki was so good, the salad was fresh, and it came with rice. My husband had the special and it was really small, so if you come for the special it is significantly less then paying for a full price roll. The new online ordering system is absolutely horrible. I used to love this place but now they changed a great system to save money and half the time, your order says completed and when you get there to pick it up, they never got it. The food I'd good but the to go orders are often wrong. I'd give it 5 stars or at least 4 but this new system doesn't even allow you to see the ingredients in any of the food. Either you better know the menu and know what's in the rolls or you're ordering blind because the new system is cheap and makes you just want to go somewhere else. read more

Nice little place, been here a few times but these past few months this place has tanked. Today we ordered a few things they made my teriyaki chicken with the teriyaki sauce on the side like they wouldn't even pour it into the bowl, do it yourself. Then my mother ordered sushi, and after a while she was like why is this spicy, and the waitress exclaims that they used siracha sauce instead of the normal sauce because they were out. I ordered two rolls; dragon and a custom roll.. both were very mid. The salmon on my custom roll was way too rubber like. The avocado on both were way too mushy and brown. Coming from someone who has worked at Kimoto, Osaka, and JP Asian Fusion, I genuinely don't think I would ever be back here for any rolls. Glad I gave it a chance but it's not my cup of tea. No flavor at all unless you order something with spicy mayo on it. $38 for two rolls, and only 3 pieces were touched. Only reason why I gave an extra star was because the employees are very sweet! Also who the heck puts crushed unagi inside a dragon roll? I'm still baffled, first place to ever see anything like that rationed. I don't know what's changed since the last time we've been here (it's been a while) but this was a horrible experience. Both servers didn't care to attend us. My kid even had to ask "when are we going to get our menus" since it had already been a while since we were seated. Very monotone customer service. When we requested some sriracha we were given a very cold "sure." You almost feel guilty for even asking. I'm sorry but we won't be coming back. We should've known better the minute we walked in and we were told "sit in the middle table." No greeting. No acknowledgment. The vibe was completely off. Food was okay.
