We were a table a of 7 celebrating a birthday. It was not busy at all. I would say only about 20% of the restaurant was filled with customers.. so not busy. When we arrived, we dropped off a cake and candle at the front counter and told them it was a surprise birthday cake and asked if they would be able to set up and bring it out once we finish our dinner. They said "yes". We do this all the time with other restaurants and have never had any issues. Normally, cake is brought out and candle that we provide is lit. Some restaurants even go as far as singing happy birthday. We finished our food and sat there for a while waiting for the server, Dolly, who was nowhere to be found. So we started stacking our plates to the side to get ready for the cake. When we finally saw her, we whispered to her that we were ready for the surprise cake. She went back into the kitchen and came out with the cake still in the box and candles still in the package and says out loud "here's your birthday cake" in front of the whole party. We asked her if they had a lighter and lit the candles ourselves. We sang Happy Birthday and enjoyed our cake next to our dirty dishes from our dinner that still have not been collected. A previous time eating here, my friend ordered takeout for her husband after we dined in. My friend lives in a different city. By the time she got home, she realized that 1 of 2 of what she ordered was missing. She called and told her she wasn't going to drive back but they were kind enough to comp her next meal. They said they can come back when she's back in town again to pick up a voucher. When she went to pick up the voucher, 2 other people were there picking up vouchers for missing orders too. Apparently, it's a common thing that happens. The food itself is decent and price is reasonable for what you're getting. He really made our first time dining there memorable, answering the many questions we had. I asked what his favorite roll was and he recommended the Mango Tango roll. Not sure what the deal was with that. Other than that everything else was good. Friendly staff and the food came out fresh and delicious. Even though I prefer to go to Hibachi places where they cook in front of you, the food was great none the less. That Yummy sauce goes well with the rice! Average food and poor service. My friends and I decided to try Okinawa Sushi on a Saturday evening, around 6pm. Despite the restaurant being relatively empty, it took quite a long time for us to be sat. When we got to our table, the first thing I noticed was how large the booths were. If you are coming with a large party, you will likely be able to fit at one booth - this definitely makes this place feel more intimate. Despite the menu being very large, I must say, I appreciate that the there are photos of all the sushi rolls. The photos are definitely not the clearest but they help visualize what you are ordering. The menu definitely has a lot going on. There is sushi, hibachi, and all the side orders and bowls that you can imagine. Our table ordered the Crab Rangoons, Fantastic, Alaska, and Lion King Rolls. The rangoons were unfortunately deceiving. They are large, but have hardly any filling. They were almost entirely fried wrapper with quite literally a drop of filling. As for the rolls, they were alright. The texture of rolls was almost mushy. On some of rolls, there was so sauce that it was all you could taste and made the rolls soggy. The flavors were pretty good, but the portions were tiny. I felt the rolls were comparable to glorified grocery store sushi. When the rolls were brought to our table, my friends and I had to hold back our laughs when we saw the tray. There was a little whale figurine that spewed out steam. This novelty was cute but felt a little tacky. The service was somehow worse than the food. Our table ordered three waters for our party of three yet only two came. Our server said she would bring it to us later. Little did we know, this "later" would be at the conclusion of our meal. The one time she came by our table, she asked us if everything was okay. Before we were even able to provide an answer, she just assumed we would say 'yes' and walked away, making no eye contact with us. She literally walked away so quickly we couldn't tell her we were still missing a water. It felt like she was just avoiding any interaction with us. At the end of our meal, it took a long time for the bill to be brought to us. I don't see myself coming back in the future. read more

I wanted to check out a new sushi spot, so I did a little digging and was drawn to this place. I instantly fell in love with the modern Asian twist of the interior. It feels fun and looks upscale. The sushi rolls were delicious and it is always nice to have a variety. It was the coolest when the rolls came out and there was a mini whale figure that had smoke flowing out. Now to the reason for the three stars is mostly due to the service. I felt that every question asked by the waitress was rhetorical because by the time I could respond she had already assumed the answer and moved on. I was in a party of three and we were told we would get a third water, but that was not received until we were finishing up. Sadly, the crab rangoons did not contain much filling. I have been here twice so far, once for a birthday celebration (before they got their liquor license) and once for date Night. The presentation of their sushi is always incredible. We had made reservations for our large group and we were all seated near the back in a large table. For date Night we were there and waited about 15 minutes for a table. The hostesses and wait staff are always very friendly and attentive. The food is great quality and good pricing. The Mango Tango roll is my favorite, and it keeps us coming back. We tried some appetizers over the visits that were not pictured as well as miso soup. The restaurant is dim inside with accent lighting above the tables and excellent music selection playing. The sushi bar and kitchen is an open concept where you can see your rolls or hibachi being made. It is about an hour and a half drive for us but the food is well worth the trek. read more

Exceptional service brings a new Sushi / Steak fusion restaurant to Modesto. Located across from the Vintage mall on Dale rd, next to Five Below. Very busy parking lot. You will find this new gem. We came before dinner rush, so we mostly had the place to ourselves, our waitress was amazing, and answered all our questions. The sushi options, and combo options were very tempting. Somehow the Hibachi won us over for tonight. We got the Scallops, and the Sirloin steak. This comes w house salad,miso or chicken broth soups, white rice, al dente sautéed veggies. The house salad has 3 types of dressing. Ginger, house flavorful, ranch. I highly recommend both the ginger and the house dressings. The scallops were cooked to perfection, and the sirloin steak was delightful accompanied by the sautéed mushrooms. Our amazing waitress even got me teriyaki sauce that was addicting . I was very happy with the portion sizes of sashimi as some places give very thin slices. These were a great size, at least a half inch wide each. I also ordered a side of sushi rice that was seasoned wonderfully and went really well with the meal. My husband and I are sushi snobs and only enjoy our regular restaurant but since we were hungry and in the area we tried this place. They seem to have a huge assortment of sushi and other items. They do not have a full bar so I was a little disappointed but it's okay. Beer and wine selection a little slim. We had their tuna tataki? I think. It was tuna sliced thin in a ponzu type sauce. It was good I'd order it again. Rolls are like everywhere else. I'd rate the rolls a 3, at least they're fresh but I just don't like so much going on that each roll taste similar. Despite their packed house we were seated quickly, which we appreciated. Their edamame was incredibly tasty and refreshing. I tried their spider roll, that was cooked fresh and tasted great! First time ever going here. We went on a Friday night and it was packed. We eagerly waited to be seated for over an hour and a half for 4 people. Not a huge deal it was busy and we agreed to wait. After being seated we waited another 20 minutes to get our drink order and then another 15 to have our food order taken. We then waited another 30-45 minutes for our food to come out which was ice cold. They warmed it back up and gave it back to us. My fried rice had enough MSG and sodium for 4 people. It was also plastered in soy sauce without me putting any on. Any time we needed something our server was nowhere to be found, I think he was afraid to interact with us because our orders were messed up so bad from the get go. We had to get a bus boy several times to get help from our server. My steak tasted funky and like something wasn't right. I stopped eating pretty quickly. My friends kept going and half of them ended up being sick when we got home. I think it was due partially to our food being left out ready for a while before being brought to us. This is the first time I've been and honestly I wasn't impressed. The server gave us a tiny discount for the troubles. The restaurant is small and is dimly lit and seems nice but the overall experience was terrible. It was incredibly expensive for four people and such a bad experience. read more
