Amazing, seamless, painless and fabulous first experience at Ray Chevrolet! Stopped in on a whim Friday evening just to get a feel for what is out there. Drove home a few hours later as a proud and happy new owner of a VW Tiguan! (Which ironically was the car I wanted in the back of my mind and they just happened to have one! Fate?) I took my truck here last week to get an oil change. Normally I go to my mechanic but I needed one done and it was just closer and more convenient for me to come here. The oil change took two hours & I called to ask if they were backed up past an hour when I scheduled and the front desk told me no. They did not charge me for my oil change which was really nice considering the time I spent there. However they did tell me that my truck had over 5300 dollars worth of repairs that needed "immediate attention". I was upset because the last thing anyone wants is to dump money into your car when you least expect it. I took it to my mechanic that is trustworthy and has done great, honest work for my family for over 10 years. My Mechanic called me today after looking over the list of everything the dealership said was wrong with my truck and there was not one issue. Everything ray chevy said was dishonest and trying to get me to pay and purchase parts that didn't need replacing. I would never recommend doing service to your vehicle based on only this dealerships recommendation. I am a woman but I know when a man is being dishonest. At 9:30 at night June 2 which is the last day of their financial before the new promotions come out. I got a phone call from Arnold the manager wanting to complete financing. I told him it was not appropriate to try to push that late. Last month it was 0% financing this is 2.9% financing plus, I also lost $2000 Chevrolet incentives.So the truck was finally delivered to Chevrolet this is not Ray Chevrolet's lot. This is the lot where they transfer all of to the different dealerships. And at that lot the tires were stolen that is not Ray Chevrolet's fault but what is their fault is lyingto me when they knew full well what was going on with the truck. I asked Arnold the manager what was going on and he told me he had no idea when he 100 what was going onhe has no integrity. As far as the salesman goes Hugo in a month and a half. I never once spoke with him. I would call this dealership and they would hang up on me or they would tell me they were going to call back and never did this happened at least 10times probably more without a doubt the most unprofessional car dealership I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. They have no integrity in my eyes are no better than a used car lot buyer beware. I gave them a deposit May 12 it is June 27 and I told them today to refund my money. During last visit to Ray Chevrolet in Fox Lake, IL to have my oil changed, the mechanic stripped a bolt and now it appears I need an oil pan. That is expensive (almost $1,000) and I should not have to pay for it since it was the negligence of Ray Chevrolet employee that stripped the bolt. Brought it back a second time because the brake lights stopped working, they called and asked to replace the fuel injector wiring. So now I am out over $1800 still have not heat, and they can't tell me why the brake lights don't work. I WILL NEVER BUY A CAR, TAKE A CAR FOR SERVICE OR RECOMMEND THIS CRAPPY DEALERSHIP TO ANYONE. After buying a 2015 Chrysler 200, a few days later I noticed the brakes squeaking significantly. I made an appointment to go back so a technician could look at it. They told me to take it to the Chrysler side. When I pulled up they had no record of my appointment in the system. Then they had to call over to the Chevy side and figure out what was going on. Finally after waiting 20 minutes they told me to take it to the Chevy side because they sold me the car. After waiting an hour the technician and manager came out and told me the brakes were 100% fine and nearly new. Fast forward 6 months later. The brakes never stopped squeaking and I finally had enough and took it for a full inspection at a very reliable repair shop. After the inspection I was shown pictures of the front rotors and pads. The front rotors were completely warped and the pads were also nearly 90% worn. I drove the car a total of 3,000 miles. After calling and speaking to the manager he insisted that the rotors were most likely warped because of the driving and the same with the pads and took no responsibility for neglecting to actually have a technician take care of the issue when I brought it back the first time. I'd be very cautious of buying a car from them and I would definitely have an inspected by a third party before doing so. read more

I'm amazed this dealership is still around. Years back we discovered they were the typical bait and switch outfit that lists a car online for one price, then gets you in the door and gives you a new, inflated price. Plus, their location and lots are down right dangerous. A few months back, I was selling my used car. I received a few offers from local dealerships, and Ray Chevy was HOUNDING me to come in. I was in the area, so I dropped my car off at the appt time I made with them to be checked. First off, they had my appointment time AFTER the service center was closed, so I'd have to come back AGAIN to have the car inspected in more detail, but they assured me they could give an estimate. Annoying, but whatever. I come back an hour later, and they essentially offer me pennies for my car- with a laundry list of things they'd 'need to fix'. Was my car in the greatest of shape? No- but in todays hot used car market, it was worth at least DOUBLE what they offered. To prove that, I went to another dealership across the border, who paid me just that. This place is scummy, scammy, and employs weasels. It is everything you would expect the typical car dealership to be, so at least they are consistent in that respect. Go somewhere else. read more

I recently decided to order a new blazer from Ray Chevy in Fox Lake, IL site unseen. I worked with Gabe Crump on the order and trade in. He was very professional. He talked me through the different options and colors and I placed the order. I had to take a trip from northern Wisconsin to IL this week so called Gabe to see if they had any on the lot I could test drive. They had a new blazer RS. I ordered a blazer premier. I took time to stop at the dealership and Gabe took the time to walk me through all of the features of the blazer. I didn't realize it would have all the different options from stereo to a 360 view camera and so on. I was thrilled with my order. I asked to make one slight change to add a sunroof. Even though the order was already placed, the dealership took care of adding it to the order. Now I just have to wait for it to come in. read more

The rushed her to sign it and took advantage of her with hidden fees and marked up prices. This "new" equinox had 4,000 miles on it, sold to her 1500$ above msrp and added $200 to the gap insurance then what was told and a $3600 protection plan. They refuse to return her call, I filed a complaint with the attorney general. I work in the car business as well and this kind of dealer makes us all look bad. The Sales department are evil snakes. The service department is outstanding only because of the young lady that ran the dept. (or at least the service desk) I've never had such a lousy experience in a sales dept. The guy that we talked to, I won't mention his name, took advantage of my Mother when she went to buy a car there. I had moved out of state for work and had a company car issued so I left my brand new Pontiac Gran Prix here. My Mother had a leased car, and decided to buy instead of lease again. I told her to take my car and use it to help her on her new car. I bought my car for $18,500 it only had about 8200 miles on it. It was a program car. Originally tagged at $28,900. This snake offered her $12K and there was still a loan to cover. For about $14K. He told her he was doing her a huge favor in giving her the $12K and was going to do her an amazing deal on her new shiny Malibu program car. He soaked her. She ended up with a $320 a month bill, he added the $2K still owed on my loan and jacked up the price of her MUCH cheaper Malibu to over $19K plus finance charges. If course they tell little old ladies that it's the best deal anywhere and only good if she bought TODAY! By the time anyone in our family found out what she did, it was too late. She'd done the deal and signed the paperwork. NEVER buy from them! read more

I had a horrible experience here! After entering my trucks info in kelly blue book Ray Chevrolet contacted me interested in a possible purchase. Ill start by saying the people i emailed and talked to on the phone were extremely helpful and friendly. I went in and met with a delightful sales person named Tim and knowing this was my first time selling a car he was patient answering my questions and talked me through it all. I was feeling very positive up to this point. Heres where it all went wrong. Tim brings the manager (I believe his name was Jim) over. He approached us with a gruff manner and immediately tells me before inspection that a car this age is going to have issues and would i be willing to take less than the kelly blue book offer of 9,955. because it may have mechanical issues. I said of course but didnt want to take less than 9k and asked can we discuss it after you actually inspect the car. I was honest and said i just had brakes done and was informed i needed struts...but thats all i knew of. I was told, "look i just want to know if you would be willing to take less before we spend an hour of our time inspecting it for nothing" i told him i totally understood and that i wasnt sure of any other work needed to be done...that they were the professionals to pls inspect and then let me know. Tim made me comfortable in the waiting room and i sat for a long time. Finally, Tim tells me there is over 3k in work that needs to be done but is very nice about it. I asked for a list because i couldnt believe it i was shocked. He brings the manager back and the manager starts listing all these things...motor mounts, engine leak, radiator, trans leak, brakes,... i said whoaaa can i please see a list of the work? He says no.. honestly there was so much wrong i didnt have them finish i pulled it... and i said so we are looking a 6k? He said i honestly wouldnt take your car for 6k. I said thank you and left. The happy ending is that i went straight to carmax in kenosha and after they did a full inspection and put my car on the machines...they gave me 11k for my truck even though kelly blue book offered 9,955. They said struts...like i told them and radiator. So if your looking to sell skip Ray Chevrolet and head to carmax!!!! read more

My husband and I purchased our car from Ray, we were very happy. We would take the car in for regular pit stops and oil changes as needed. During one oil change the service guy said there was an oil leak that needed to be repaired, no big deal, we had the work done. After a couple days we noticed the car was now hemorrhaging oil. When we took the car back in the service guy said, that the seal was not properly placed and this was why oil was going everywhere. He said it was their fault and they would take care of it. Which they did. Fixed the problem, and cleaned up the oil mess. We were very thankful Ray took care of the problem and admitted it was their fault. After that incident we had the battery replaced as well as tires. We also had some work done to our daughter's car. (Which after that work, her car door wouldn't close all the way. She took it to a local mechanic, not Ray, and he fixed it for her. There was a screw missing from the door) Last December I took my vehicle in for a routine oil change and tire rotation. I was told in addition to the oil change my car needed front brakes, the throttle body needed cleaning and my car had a coolant leak. The "service consultant" asked if I notice the car leaking fluid, I told him no, I hadn't noticed anything. Well car repairs are never convenient, my oil change a week before Christmas was an unexpected $933 but when your car needs work... And the guy was so nice to say "Merry Christmas" Well while I was driving my car home, I noticed the my car squealing when I would break, there seems to be a thump and now there's no heat on my legs. A few days days go by and still no lower heat, there's a real thump with the front tire, the squealing is embarrassing, now my car is definitely leaking some fluid, and my car is so loud. My husband and I are thinking maybe it's time to take Ray up on all those offers they send us to trade in and upgrade our car. So now a couple weeks go by, I'm driving my son to school and my car seems very sketchy. I call Ray talk with Liz I explain my car was recently there and had some work done and now I'm scared to drive my car because some things are definitely wrong now. She says to bring it in. While driving from Grant HS to Ray Chevrolet my check engine light comes on. Well the "service consultant" gives me a loaner car and says he'll call. This was at 7:30 in the morning, he called after 4:00. So they checked my breaks, he said, the squeaking (they were SQUEALING)breaks is due to an "excessive metal content in the pads" that would be warranty work, no problem. The check engine light is on because I need to have the catalytic converter replaced. Oh and my car has a coolant leak. I told the guy (which this is the same man that serviced my car about 3 weeks ago) you just fixed a coolant leak right before Christmas. He said, "oh-uh hang on... oh yes I see that here. Umm that will be warranty work as well." He tells me the repairs this time will be between $1,000 and $1,200 he's not positive yet. Oh "Happy New Year!" So when my husband and I go to pick up the car it was $1,000 he was able to save us a little money, (thanks so much!) and that coolant issue turned out to just be a nipple. No big deal he says. (But was that the issue in December that cost us $400?) And they don't hear anything as far as the car being loud now and there's no thumping noise with the tire. They say it sounds fine. But just to be safe they rotated my tires back to the original position. Gee thanks! So we get our car back, it still doesn't seem quite right. And two days later my check engine light is back on! Well now I'm NOT taking it back to Ray because in less than a month we've spent almost $2,000 to get it repaired, it's right after the holidays and who can afford that right now. So this time we take it over to Merlin, and after about 20 minutes of them having our car, they call back tell us the issue, something with the exhaust, fix the car and we got it back within a couple hours. My car is so quite it sounds like it's supposed to sound! And it runs great now! So now it's August, this past weekend I'm driving my car home from work, and the car starts to overheat. We take the car over to Merlin, they check it out and say it's the oddest thing, your car is leaking fluid because you have cracked NIPPLE! Well when we picked up the car they said it looked as though that nipple had been glued together and just put back on. Imagine that! So moral of the story, if you want your car to run well and last a long time don't take it to Ray Chevrolet in Fox Lake! Go to Merlin instead they're quick, thorough, decent hard working mechanics! They're in the business to fix cars! Those guys aren't going to try to rob you blind by doing a crap job! I'm not sure I can say that about Ray, because in my opinion, either just don't care about the work they do or they're just that incompetent.
