My Husband's family has been doing an annual reunion since 1989. Back home in Cape Charles, VA, this year. Some of us always eat breakfast together on Sunday before we head out on our separate trips home. We decided to deviate from our regular spot this year and head to Rayfield's Pharmacy and we were not disappointed. There use to be an icehouse on the spot back in the day where the pharmacy is now located. There is a drug store and diner inside. The diner has an old-school feel to it and even had a Wurlitzer juke box. The seating area for the diner is not huge but it is bigger than it looks. They have a large table with 8 chairs in the center, in addition to counter seating and several booths. All the specialty platters have scrapple included( It's a Southern thang along with grits!) which I love but some of my newer family members from England raised their eyebrows over. I had the King's Creek French Toast and my Husband had the Fig Street Breakfast. Both were very good. In fact, everyone agreed that their breakfast was delicious. And the prices were so reasonable-under $10 for breakfast and coffee is included in the price. The staff was friendly and attentive. We have found our new breakfast spot when we are home. read more

We were in Cape Charles for a wedding when we needed a few toiletry items. It was at that time that we learned that Rayfield's is more of a pharmacy for medication only. Here's the thing. Rayfield's will have a very small selection of toiletry items and they will be very expensive. They don't have an actual makeup selection or expansive toiletry selection. Don't go in here expecting the regular product accessibility you'd find in a CVS or Walgreens. In the back, they had a soda bar where people will ordering old timey milkshakes and things, which was pretty quirky. Otherwise, it was mostly people bustling in and out to pick up their medication. A lot of the expensive toiletries were untouched. Super clean store and friendly workers, just didn't fulfill what we needed. read more

We decided to stop in because well why not! The employees were very kind. Turns out there is a little eatery inside. Of course there is a pharmacy and a few aisles of trinkets and pharmacy like needs. It's kinda like a mini CVS, with a mini diner mixed in. We did order milkshakes to go. They were good. So I read a couple of reviews and there were negative comments on the food. I could not disagree more on that. The wife and I stopped in there this morning for breakfast and the people couldn't have been friendlier and the food couldn't have been better. The staff there definitely know what they are doing. My over medium eggs were perfect, the sausage was delicious and the pancake the wife and I shared was great. Wow, we were charmed by the atmosphere once you go inside. Took us back in time. Food: we all had burgers and fries and it was good. Service: servers were very friendly and attentive. All staff helped do all tasks. Cleanliness: this is why I can't give more stars. We sat at the bar because the booths didn't look like they had ever been wiped. Even at the bar I had to wipe off the counter. The cook was touching the food without gloves which I am absolutely against especially when your cooking in the customers view. The only reason I didn't complain was because I did see her wash her hands before starting to work. Another staff member cleaned off a dirty table and brought all the dishes to the sink before looking at the silverware(mixed with everything else) and saying they didn't look used and put them with the clean stuff, if it comes off a used table it should be washed. I only recommendation is please serve bread after 9:45. Can you please serve at least until 11;00? It was a decent sized pharmacy and had a quaint diner inside. We already had breakfast, so we weren't hungry. However, we did look at what others had ordered and they looked delicious. Their prices were really good/reasonable. We did decide to get ice cream and a shake. They were delicious. The only I would have done differently is add some syrup to the shake. The shake wasn't that sweet, but it was still very good. The service was quick and friendly. read more

I've been visiting Cape Charles for years, had always heard good things about Rayfield's, but only tried it out today. In contrast to a recent reviewer who complained about cleanliness, I found the restaurant spotless. In fact, one of the cooks took advantage of a slow period to do a thorough cleaning of the range. The servers were lovely and very prompt. The food is down-home delicious. I ordered a tuna salad wrap and a side order of the seasoned fries. There are many other, traditional lunch options. The breakfast options were similarly plentiful. I'll definitely be back to sample that menu. I'd highly recommend a visit to Rayfield's to get a feel for this lovely town and her citizens! read more

I love the pharmacy. It was suggested that I try using Castor oil on my face, at night, to see what would happen with some pre-cancerous spots. After 6 weeks, they are diminishing. My skin is also more supple. There is a CBC ointment for sore muscles. I have given it to others, 3 times. It works. read more

Eating an amazing breakfast at the local restaurant in Cape Charles, eastern shore of Virginia. Sweet potato pancakes, scrapple, eggs, coffee! This is a must and where locals go. However, the head cook is amazing, her helpers suck!!! Attitude, very slow service. I had to ask several times, very politely for coffee. Finally she gets the coffee, only to go across the room to serve the local cop, of which for 15 min we all had to listen to him talk on his cell phone about his income, pensions, etc!!! The only noise louder than him was the sound of tax dollars being sucked out of the room! Would I come back? In a heart beat! Best place in town! Amazing food!!! Food is five stars!
