I was excited when I first saw the Publix in Suffolk, Virginia. The store is beautiful inside. I love how they've got the subs, sushi, cheese, olives, pizzas, and all the grab-and-go foods set up right as you walk in the door--perfect if you're just coming from work and need something quick. I walked around the whole store, and while it looks nice, the prices are high. For example, Nathan's hot dogs that are usually around $5 at other stores were $9.19 at Publix. That's not in everybody's budget. I wish they had better bargains like Kroger does. All I can say is, I went in once to check it out, thought it might be a regular shopping spot for me, but it's not. I wanted to love it, and I do like it for certain things--maybe if I want a sub, pizza, or some sushi. But for everyday, weekly, or monthly shopping, it's just not for me. On the bright side, the store was very clean, and the employees were friendly (though not super helpful). The customers seemed nice too. At the end of the day, it comes down to preference and price range. I'd say it's worth trying at least once to see if it fits your needs. read more

Praying that the cake taste better than the way it is decorated! I personally went into the store and described what I wanted. What I picked up looked like it was decorated by a small child. The wording is so small you can barely read it. I am embarassed to take it to the event tomorrow. I paid $60 for a cake that looks horrendous...never again!! read more

I'm a virgin to Publix!! But not anymore as of Wednesday!! Suffolk is super glad to welcome this brand new building/store to the area! I haven't experienced it fully. But the deli and hot food line stayed packed from the time we arrived (10am) until closing (I was told)... worth the wait, tho they say! I did get to sample the sugar cookies with sprinkles and the cranberry white chocolate bread... so delicious!! The parking lot was clean and easy to maneuver ... Associates were pleasant and eagerly ready to assist. I can't wait to become a regular here!! Make sure you sign up and receive your $5 off $20 or more purchase. I'll be in touch... The worst Publix I've been to. I was excited to get a Publix in the area but this store does not live up to the Publix reputation. It's small, the deli is always dirty, the sides at the hot bar always look old. There were flies on the food at the hot bar. The 8 piece chicken is always out and always a 30 plus minute wait. I'm so disappointed and jealous of other states that have a nice Publix. read more

I just needed rosemary for a brine and I stopped at six different grocery stores from work (Portsmouth) to (South Suffolk) home. Public had rosemary in both dry and fresh selection! Now Im too tired to make the dog gone brine! UGH.... Thanks Publix for being my champion! read more

I'm not really a fan of Publix and don't get the cult like following. The meat selection is meager. The produce usually has fruit flies hovering around. The prices are higher than almost all the other grocery stores. The reason they don't get 1-Star is because the employees are usually friendly and helpful. You can tell they like working there. The bakery is actually very good. This location is on par with all the others I've visited. Pricey, poor meat selection, fruit flies but great bakery and awesome staff. read more

Excellent grocery store to have in the area. I am in the store all the time for BOGOs, and of course they just have items here that other stores in the area do not have. The deli personnel always has a smile and works as fast as they can to fulfill the needs of the constant people that are in there for hot food and sandwiches/subs. read more

Maybe they will get it together once they have been open longer. We ordered the subs online due to the long line. The wait time was 40 minutes after ordering and paying online. No problem. I ask someone where I go to pick up our order and am told to go wait in the very long line. I ask someone else and am told that there is a pickup area. Twenty minutes later and I am still waiting. Love this Publix, the staff is friendly and helpful. I've ordered from the bakery multiple times and none of my orders ever had any issues. Their grocery aisles are always full and well stocked. The thing that I like most about Publix is that if you know that you can't get anywhere else, Publix will have it. I was looking in mostly every grocery store in Suffolk for some ginger. I couldn't find it anywhere. It was also in middle of winter, but Publix had it. read more

This isn't a true Publix. I'm from Florida and this is a poor attempt at a Publix. I went in today for a tuna sub and they literally opened a can and plopped it on bread and proceeded to make it. It DID NOT taste like a Publix sub. The deli and hot food lines are always ridiculously long with people just standing in the back like they are lost. I thought after the first year things would get better but it hasn't. There is a Publix in Williamsburg that is way better. read more

Great staff beautiful produce and meat all very clean For example, if I ask a question the staff have always been friendly and kind. I recently had knee replacement surgery and walked with a cane. I never had to ask but staff would get what I could not reach or help with check out and transport of groceries. The Manager is terrific and and tries to carry what needed for me to do good Italian cooking. read more

Extremely clean store. I am from Texas . Not accustomed to paying there incredibly high prices. We have H‑E‑B that competes with Walmart on price yet has very good quality. This store appears to be 40% higher. I will keep my extra money and shop elsewhere. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I have never done a review where I desired to mark anywhere as 0, but what happened today warranted it. I placed an order at 1:55pm for 3 stubs to be ready by 2:35pm. When I arrived at 2:33pm I noticed it appeared that there were 3 people in line and I presumed since I ordered mine was being worked on in the back round. 30 minutes later only 2 of my subs were finished and mind you no one was left in line. People were coming in and getting their subs done within minutes. Meanwhile I ordered mine ahead of time and it took over 30 minutes. The purposes of ordering was to ensure I make it to my nieces competition. Because my order was not done at 30 minutes later, I missed her performance. read more

Very expensive grocery store. I was most impressed at the frozen food and dairy section. Sadly, the bakery does not compete with Wegmans or Fresh Market. Im not a fan of the interior grey, green and white color scheme- it reminds me of Enterprise. Boxy and clinical....strange choice. read more

Ordered the Turkey Christmas Dinner and added 1 lb green bean casserole, 1 pound of mashed potatoes, a cheesecake and a ham meant to feed 8-10 people. When I went at the assigned time to pick up my order, they were having trouble finding the order for the man in front of me (I heard one of the employees say they thought they gave it to someone else.) Then another employee came to help me- he couldn't find my order- I waited for more than 10 minutes. Then he came out with a ham that was marked $42 and it was literally the size of a kids tiny football cut in half. He brought out an 8 oz container of green bean casserole and argued with me that 8 oz was 1 pound. No extra mashed potatoes or the turkey dinner. After another wait, he brought out a box that had water pouring out of it. and plopped it into my cart. I said it had water pouring from it- he said it is the turkey starting to thaw. I opened the box- there was one very small turkey breast that was frozen (ice chips on the outside). The turkey was supposed to be a whole turkey, cooked and weigh about 12.5 pounds. This one was maybe 3-4 pounds (very small) and was only a breast and certainly not cooked. The stuffing was also missing from the box. And everything in the box was covered with water and dripping. NOW---why would I pay extra ($150) for them to basically put a frozen turkey and some mashed potatoes and gravy in a box to hand to me? The person helping me literally argued that the turkey wasn't supposed to be cooked even though I showed him the order where it said everything was cooked and only had to reheat. (Ham wasn't cooked either.) I have ordered catering at Publix many times but at a different store. Sadly, I won't return to this store. Oh- then I went to Food Lion right down the street and bought everything in my Publix order (yes, I had to cook it), but it was way less than half the cost of Publix. read more

I ordered a Strawberry Dulce de leche cake from here for my partners birthday today! I ordered it a week and a half a got to be ready today for pick up. An hour before the pick up time ,2:00pm, I get a call from publix telling me they're out of the cake!?!?!???? I ordered an egg salad wrap with spinach and tomatoes, salt/pepper. Easy, right? WRONG! My friend ordered a jerk turkey and gouda "smashed sub, extra meat, spinach, tomatoes, mayo, mustard, banana peppers, jalapeños. This is what we got! My wrap had about a tablespoon of egg salad (it was in this mess somewhere!), spinach, tomatoes, mustard, mayo, banana peppers, jalapeños. My friends sub had spinach and tomatoes with some meat and cheese thrown on top! Not only that, but it was supposed to be ready at 5:45pm, yet it wasn't ready until 6pm. I couldn't even eat the mess that they gave to me because the wrap was stale and completely disassembled! My friend had to take the veggies off of my plate and put them on his sandwich and add his own mayo and mustard. Oh, and my wrap should have had Chao vegan cheese on it, but I didn't see any cheese in that mess I was given! Totally unacceptable! I've gotten subs from them one other time, last year, and ran into a similar issue, but decided to give them one last chance since it was my friends birthday and that's what he requested. We placed a large order for a private event. We ordered 400 wings. 1/4 of them didn't come with any sauce. The delivery showed up late. They forget two trays of food and had to make a second trip. There were 150 people waiting on food for this event. read more

Stopped by to pickup my son's High School graduation cake and was very disappointed they were out (like the other 5 stores I'd stopped by looking for them) of graduation balloons. I asked a manager who just so happened to be standing close by if he had any more that he could just blow up for me. He checked balloons cabinet section drawers, but didn't see any. And stopped everything he was doing and went to the very back of the store and reappeared 2 minutes later with a brand new stash of congratulations grad balloons and saved the day! Did Much more than any other store would have! Amazing customer service, I just wish I'd caught his name. read more

Great place. Been here twice, about 15 months apart, where I live, Lexington KY has no Publixes yet, but one is opening near my home soon, which I am ecstatic about if it is anything like this one. Everyone was smiling, and the selection was great. Easy layout and did not feel too small, like a Kroger of a larger size does, or too big and empty, as a Meijer does. Perfect sizing, great selection. If in the area, I would drive farther to get to this than to a Food City. read more

Pub subs..... 0 for 2. Just went for the second time, the first my husbands sub was made twice and mine not at all. Today my husbands Ruben was to be toasted and it was not but said it was. Of note both times we ordered using the app. The labels are correct on the sandwiches but the order is wrong. I'm not impressed. read more
