Rays HVAC van being driving by "Pedro" nearly ran me off of route 25 this afternoon, we were side by side, him on the left me in the right lane, well Pedro decided he needed to turn right onto Stearns and came over, no warning no signal, and drove me into and onto the right lane curb as I had absolutely no way of getting out of the way. Brakes grinding, nearly kissed the side of my car. He then proceeded to yell profanities and call me numerous names when I pulled up next to him to ask him to pull off and allow me to verify if he had in fact made contact with my vehicle or damaged it in any way (I had no way of knowing if he had hit me due to the impact on the curb). Called their number and the dispatcher didn't even verify which vehicle I was calling about when I asked her to call her driver to explain I simply wanted him to stop so we could ensure a police report was not needed. She simply stated "we'll try and get ahold of him". He finally pulled over as I drove with him a good five minutes and proceeded to threaten me with a phone call to the police (claimed he had called them already), called me further names and would not allow me to explain or talk to him in a decent manner. I even attempted to introduce myself when I saw his name tag and state "Can you let me speak, you made this mistake not me, and you refused to pull off to ensure my vehicle wasn't damaged by said mistake." Did I get that far? No. He continued to scream and film me on his phone. I finally said fine we can wait for the cops then, called South Elgin PD, they had no call from this man or this incident. He lied hoping I would simply drive off and leave it be. He followed me around my vehicle when we were outside of the cars for that brief moment attempting to film me and my car. I would NEVER call this place simply due to this individual they employ. Learn how to drive and be respectful of the fact that when you almost drive someone off of a road, the decent thing to do is ensure everything is alright and then go on our merry ways. Absolutely disgusting interaction and nearly gave me a heart attack. Didn't stop shaking from this until I finally got to work, which this made me late to. read more

I called Rays they came within a half hour fixed my ac. I highly recommend Alex to come out, real nice and informatIve. he explained what he was doing the entire time. We have been using Rays for over 25 years and never had a problem. read more

Ray's always does a great job with service and suggestions for your home's needs. The staff that has serviced my home has always been courteous, professional, friendly, and respectful of my property for over 20 years. I started using them when I bought my home and the previous owner had kept all her invoices. I thought that was a great recommendation, and I haven't been disappointed in all these years. read more

I just had my air conditioner serviced by Ray's because it was not working. The technician determined that I needed a new thermostat. It took him less than 5 minutes to install it and when I received the bill, he charged me $289 for the thermostat. I questioned it since I know that is very high for a thermostat, but the technician told me it was a good one, so I paid it. After he left, I went online to see the actual cost of the thermostat, and to my surprise, it was only around $70.00. They inflated the price by 400%. Needless to say, I will never be using them again and I suggest you do not also, unless of course you like overpaying. read more

I wish I can give -1 star to them, on 1/11/22 I bought a new furnace from Ray's and say it has 5 yrs labor,10 yrs parts warranties etc, (1) but after 11 months,on 12/12/22 heat cannot blow up,called them,sent the guy who just check this and check that,and charged $188 with I do not know what he had done,he said everything was ok, (2) on 3/18/23 same problem came out,sent another guy who almost doing the same thing with the first one,this time he said something about the switch thing problem which I do not understand,well they charged me$273 again,(3) Now today 1/19/24,the same problem came agai,n,this time I even went to their office and talked to one the lady why the same problems (1) and (2) charged me a lot money without doing the right thing even under warranty cover,the the day they send another guy who just pull out the air-filter and said was my fault,because I put the thick filter,just like 15 mins checking temp of the furnace (nobody told me was the filter problem at the first and second time) ,this was really rediculous,asked for $236 again,then I called the lady,I said I will not pay $236 just for pulling out the filter.,finally,the owner answered my call and explained some bullshits I don't even want to litsen,I just willing to pay them $78 for trip charge which I talked to the the lady in the morning I went to their office complaint This is my serious mistake for choosing them,So,I strongly recommend NOT dealing with this company with all dishonest people , read more

Really wanted to give them 5 stars, as they did so well installing my new heater and air conditioner. But when summer came and my AC didn't kick on, I called the office to see if they can come by and check it out. I was told that it would be free of charge if it was a mistake on their part. So, the tech came and said it was miswiring and had it fixed in no time. But the tech handed me a bill for $244 for a travel fee and a diagnostic fee. He insisted on receiving payment on the spot (even though I had paid for my other work with them online in the past). I explained what I was told about it being free if it was their mistake made during installation but he didn't budge. So I paid the tech and promptly called the office to explain the situation - asked for a refund since I was told it was free if it was their mistake. The owner was supposed to call me back, but never did. I've contacted them a few times since but no response. So I give up. They took my $244 to fix a miswiring problem on my brand new AC and heater, but I'm not giving them any more of my business and no more referrals. I would be careful with this company. They're good, but this failure to do the right thing or even simply explain their ruling and close the loop with me makes them unworthy of trust in my opinion. read more

Wonderful experience with Ray's HVAC during a recent project. Paul worked with us to remove and install a new "B" vent for our furnace. The challenge was coordinating this job with an insurance roof replacement. Paul pre-ordered materials and ensured his team was ready for the day of the roofing project. His team met with myself and the roofers and were able to quickly and cleanly complete the work!! This is our fourth major project with Ray's and they are great!! Very professional and their pricing is fair for the quality of work and materials being installed. Highly recommended them for any HVAC issues from service to installation. read more

What a dishonest and misleading company. The salesman named John had to write two estimates because the office could not understood how he reached the prices he quoted us. Even after the second estimate was hand delivered it too was incorrect. The salesman forgot to charge me for the add ons even though he stood face to face with me and told me the total price listed included everything. When I complain and asked to speak to the owner I was told he's busy today and can't talk to me. Seriously-- I recommend that you don't waste your time with this company, unless you like to be fooled. Also be careful when searching them on the internet.. it appears they list several different addresses on different streets in the Schaumburg area with different contact numbers.. I image thats done on purpose to further deceive us. read more

I can't say enough about Ray's. John is as honest and nice as they come. When he told us we needed new AC, I asked him to send me a quote. Within a few hours, he sent it to us for a price I considered quite reasonable. Dale also did her level best by scheduling us for installation the day after I called her - even though she initially said I may have to wait another four days. Finally Paul and Fred came early, finished installation within two hours and were also as pleasant as could be. Now - everything in our house is COOL which is so welcome after four sweltering days of heat. They will always get our business. read more

I was planning on replacing our old furnace soon, but heating problems that developed on New Years Eve made the issue somewhat urgent. A call to Ray's (on New years Eve) and both a technician and the owner of the company came to our home in about an hour. We confirmed the furnace needed to be replaced and got a quote later that day. Our old furnace limped on for a few days until a new unit was installed. Good installation on a name brand unit for what I think was a fair price. A long time customer of Ray's. read more

Do not use this company! We have been loyal customers for years and were recently thrown under the bus by Ray's. We have a 4 yr. old wall furnace in our family room addition. 3/27 we noticed that the furnace was running and not turning off. My husband shut off the electricity to the furnace and we called Ray's on Mon. 3/28. A tech came out and told us that the furnace seemed to be fine and charged us $78. On 3/31 we noticed again that the furnace was not shutting down and my husband turned off the electricity to the unit. The same tech came out on 4/1 and decided that the problem was the thermostat. He put in a new one and charged us $100. The bill was not broken down but upon searching the internet, thermostats such as the one installed run approx. $40. We called the owner today because we felt that if part of the $100 fee was a service call, this was not fair. He dismissed us by saying that we got a good deal. 1) the tech failed to troubleshoot the problem on 3/28 2) the bill was not itemized so we aren't sure of the breakdown on 4/1 3) if we were charged for 2 service calls for the same problem in 4 days, this was entirely unfair We will be looking for a new HVAC Company! read more

This is the 2nd time that I called Ray's. First for first a furnace and now a AC problem. Perhaps one of the most ethical businesses I have ever worked with. In this case it was a $15 part rather than a big expense. I had someone else quote the repair and it was $450. I can't say enough about this company and would call them without concern. read more

24 years later we just had our furnace and A/C condenser replaced by, you guessed it, Ray's! They diagnosed that there was a major leak of Freon and since everything was well beyond life expectancy, we decided to replace everything. John came out and made the determination, he had a new furnace and A/C priced out quickly (and within budget) and the next day both were installed and running perfectly. This major purchase couldn't have gone better and smoother. I am and still will be totally satisfied with Ray's and their quality product and service. read more

We put out for bid our A/C system 9 years ago and they came in at a great price with best service and Warranty. Moved our service contract to them soon after and have been 100% satisfied with everything they've done. Needed a new furnace now and it was installed today. Had appointment this morning, took the day off and just received a call from Ray's stating they can't come out because they told us 2 years ago that it would need to be replaced. What?!?! You couldn't have called and cancelled yesterday??? Can I send you a bill for lost wages today? You would expect payment just for sending a technician out whether or not they were able to do anything. I'm reporting them to the BBB, Channel 5 Investigative Reporting. Very happy with the service I receive from Ray's - both for installation of a new system and ongoing maintenance services. The price quotes I receive are always competitive or better than other places I check but most importantly the techs are outstanding and very knowledgeable about the technology, even my old home with radiator heat and a Spacepak A/C system. They explain everything they'll be doing, answer all my questions and offer honest recommendations about what works best, not necessarily what will cost the most. Their dedication to doing the job right, responsiveness and willingness to come out even after-hours is surprising and will keep me coming back for future services. read more

Is 0 a rating? This place is unreliable when making appointments, unprepared for service calls and inadequate to do repairs. Nothing was accomplished during the initial service call. Then they show up without notice or an appointment and are upset because I'm at work instead of being home just expecting them to casually drop by. Then an appointment is made for after 2 pm today and it's been 5 1/2 hrs and have had no word since the last call 3 hrs again saying they were on their way. I don't know, but I'm calling bullshit! I'll not use them and hope you don't either. This is just wrong and bad business! read more

Set up an appointment to have the Contract Servicing of the AC and have new Dryer Vent installed. 2 days later after changing my schedule to accommodate the appt., I get a call and was told that they do not do dryer vents and that the AC servicing contractor was not available and that I need to reschedule. After a run around talking to 3 different people, I finally gave up trying to get the job done or rescheduled. There are a lot of better run businesses to deal with and after years of being a customer I would recommend you avoid dealing with this business. read more

Very professional, quality work and furnace/AC, personable installer who answered all my questions...and most importantly, the lowest of 3 quotes that I received by several hundred dollars. I first started working with Ray's HVAC as a volunteer for my church - helping to provide access to, and information regarding, the building for any HVAC work. I have since taken on a more active volunteer role overseeing the property itself during this past year. During this time I have had to request quick repairs and HVAC replacements (one indoor and two Rooftop Units [RTU's]). I met the owner William for the indoor installation and worked with Paul for the rooftop installations, and they were both very helpful and got the installations scheduled as quickly as possible - important because our church operates a day care ministry during the weekdays. Based on my conversation with others, including the Plant Manager at my full time job, Ray's HVAC prices are also very competitive or better. Furthermore, their installation crews show up as scheduled and get the work done in a day. They are also very informative when I have questions. I wish I knew about them when my home HVAC needed replacement! Nevertheless, I would imagine their residential work is just as good, if not better, than their commercial work. I would highly recommend this company for your HVAC needs. read more

I had been dealing with Ray's about 10 years and was always satisfied up to the last service call. My air was working but not cool enough. Within a few minutes, the service man said I needed a new thermostat to start with and quoted me $129 for non programmable (which he didn't think he had) & $159 for programmable; Then he said i would probably need at least a pound of Freon. This was all before he even cleaned the outside unit. When I questioned the prices, saying the big box stores had lots in the $50 range, he became insulted. He said it was horrible being at my house. I responded that it was horrible having him there and that I did not want him to do anything. I told him to put everything back as it was and leave. I was so nervous about him that I called my dog in from the yard in case he was going to open the gate and let him out. I called the main office and explained he made me uncomfortable and that I didn't trust his diagnosis. This is a business based on trust. Once the trust is lost, it can't be regained. The previous years of good dependable service were cancelled out. The man who came out several days later had to rewire a switch in the outside unit that had been installed by a Ray's technician in September 2014. Since the serviceman who made me nervous didn't mention it, I am left to wonder if he was incompetent or if he caused the wiring problems. Instead of being apologetic, the office has continued to bill me for the diagnostic visit. read more

Rewind 9 years, when I had just bought this house and the heater fails in the middle of the coldest day in the winter. I am a highly technical engineer from the country, where we are used to doing our own work (DIY). I noticed the Carrier igniter was not glowing and I needed the part. Ray's HVAC was close and willing to part with an igniter to a non-contractor. Nine years ago my interaction was pleasant enough that Ray's HVAC was the first name that came to mind when I had another furnace issue today (coldest day in the year again lol). Patiently, they sold me another igniter (even though that wasn't the problem) and John was very warm and welcoming when I finally diagnosed the issue to be a flame roll out switch stuck open. An insightful piece of advice got the furnace up, a part on order and I am left with yet another pleasant interaction with Ray's. Thank you. I have used Ray's HVAC for years for maintenance and repairs. My husband and I are selling our home and need a small repair completed to the duct work which was found during the home inspection. I called Ray's and was told they will not do any repairs relating to a home inspection. I am dumbfounded. Instead of stating they were extremely busy and not sure when they could help out their customer, they just refused to help. Guess who I'm not going to call for maintenance or repairs at our new home. Very poor customer service!!! read more

The guy who installed my water heater and furnace was knowledgeable and experienced, and I never had any problems with his work. But he took about 8 hours to finish everything and tore my house up in the process, marked up all the walls and left mud everywhere. Next time I would try a different company. read more
