I had the pleasure of eating at Ray's for the first time about ten years ago. It definitely left an impression. When we were recently planning our latest trip, we made sure the route took us by for a second visit. They're located in a strip mall and the decor inside was that of an average pizza and sandwich shop. A scattering of tables, Eagles football playing on the TV, and the obligatory drink cooler in the corner near the counter. The dining room was clean and gave the feeling of a family kitchen that's been around since 1985. We decided to order the same thing we did in our first visit, the Steak Sandwich, the Italian Hoagie, and a round of Birch Beer for the table. Both of the sandwiches were portioned well. The wonderful flavors of the sliced meats and chopped ribeye blended perfectly with the local sourced rolls. And the side of pickles did not disappoint as they were nicely sliced thick and were not too sweet or bitter. We had to ask for second side of them because they went quickly amongst the four of us. The service was excellent. The staff were friendly and attentive. They even gave us directions to the bakery they get their rolls from. I do not live in their local area but for me and my family, definitely worth the multiple hour drive it took us to get there. Would highly recommend Ray's. read more

This place use to be nice but the owner needs to get rid of the two young ladies on the front desk. I don't know if they are drunk or high or just bad mannered. Their commentaries whenever you pick an order are very unwelcoming. Very unsettling especially if you have your family with you. I had a very nasty and very unpleasant incident that I would not expect from a family restaurant . I don't know if the owner reads yelp but if you are going to pick an order with your family be careful the two ladies in the front desk be forewarned. Now I just go to Giuseppe's in Hatfield. The food is fantastic! The people are kind and helpful. There is only 1 thing that keeps this from being a "5 Star" review and Ray's being my favorite place for pizza and steaks. Everything is 20% too expensive. I get that the pandemic hurt and the current cost of goods and services has gone up. That has effected my wallet too. Man, I cannot not say one bad thing about Ray's. I had a 12" cheesesteak, order of fries, and a coke. Everything hit home. Very good thick cheesesteak with fried onions. Plenty of meat. I mean plenty of meat. I ate that whole cheesesteak. Steak was finely chopped up. Delicious! Service was fast. Friendly lady at the cash register. They do a lot of takeout. Plenty of plastic seating area. Parking in a strip mall. Now I paid cash, no problem. I heard a customer being told 3% added for credit cards. This is getting more frequent now that there are upcharges for using credit cards. $$$ rating. My tab was at $20. I recommend Ray's. I saw a few tough reviews but I did not have an experience like that. read more

It has been a long time since I have been to Rays and I wish it wasn't. The cheesesteak was as good as advertised, tons of meat , not greasy at all , conshohocken italian bakery roll and a bunch of fried onions. The cheesesteak moved right up to the top of my best if list ... The wings were also surprisingly good , I like the way they were cooked and they have a nice selection of sauces. I had the hot and it was not but I'll step up to their insane next time. Definitely a very small dining room so get take out! read more

My parents introduced us to Ray's years ago. We liked it so much that we would make plans to eat there at least once while visiting family. However, on our most recent visit to Ray's we found the prices to be unusually high and the food to be of a lesser quality than other visits. The cheesesteak meat was tough/chewy and got stuff in your teeth and the raw onions on the hoagies had a strange texture and flavor to them. I will say that the service was great and they were very quick with our order but the quality of the food just wasn't what it used to be. At first we thought it was just us or maybe a one-off bad visit but our friends who went to Ray's on our recommendation said that they experienced the same poor food quality and high prices. Even not being native to Philly, I know there's a long standing debate on who has the best cheesesteak. This is a pretty solid one, but not my favorite thus the 4 stars. Love the variety of chips, and the service was very friendly. We are a local buisness in lansdale. we buy rays literally every single week for pizza friday. we buy at least 4 large pizzas with toppings. Today we sent our intern to go pick it up and they said they stopped accepting payment over the phone/online. He had to come back to pick up the card, leaving the pizza cold. its already not that great of pizza. I walked in to ask for a slice. I asked if the slices were fresh out of the oven. The surly woman with glasses behind the counter said she didn't know. She didn't work in the back. "The back" was only 10 feet away from her. She had just come from "the back". I told her I was looking for a slice that didn't need to be heated up. She made a face and the oh well gesture. I guess the 10' walk was too much to ask. I was actually thinking about buying a pie if the slices weren't fresh, but decided against it because of her lack of customer service and poor attitude. I also forgot to mention on that visit somebody showed up with a newborn baby. And the help and the staff was so elated to see the baby they all had to hold the baby and adore it and Revere it. My problem is after doing so no one wash their hands to my knowledge back to business as usual. The absolute worst hoagie and cheese steak!! The pizza was mediocre at best. Truly disappointing and a total waste of money (in excess of $90.00 dollars)!!! On 10/22/2023 I placed a large order of each (costing a total of $46 dollars and change (in addition to the rest of my order). I ordered a large Italian hoagie with lettuce & onions on the side. The hoagie was prepared D R Y with no oil/seasonings. YUK! The provolone cheese was lacking and it was on the top of the hoagie. Not on the bottom as it should be. I didn't order it dry. Despite repeating the order T H R E E times! I also ordered a large Cheese steak with onions and sauce on the side (they did do that) but prepared it as a cheese steak H O A G I E (disgusting... yuk!!!) with a massive blob of soaking wet lettuce on the bottom of the sandwich rendering the roll wet, saturated, & inedible! The order was repeated 3 times. The rest of the order was just... meh. By the time we realized this, they were closing. Ray's pizza isnt a bad spot but I did have a bad experience the last time I went. I ordered a salad with pickles in it. They forgot to put the pickles in the salad, which was fine everyone makes mistakes. I checked the salad in the car so I went back in and asked for a side of pickles. The lady told me that the pickles should have been on the salad. I feel as though she should have just given me a side of pickles. I dont know if she thought I was trying to scam for a side of pickles but it left a bad taste in my mouth. Jim's is pretty good, Ishkabibbles ain't half shabby and you may even settle for one of Italian Delight's steaks... but if you really want a cheesesteak that will make you thankful you mother birthed you... you need to go to Ray's! Ray's is the best. I would send anyone here for a cheesesteak, and have. That being said I have to say that my latest experience was not so great. It seemed that Ray's was one of the last hold outs to the dine-in situation post covid. I am not sure if I didn't get the procedure but we ordered at the counter, no waitress available I guess, and our food was brought to us packed to go. It's possible I missed a sign saying they were still not open for eat-in but other people were sitting as well. We unpacked our food and ate at the table as if we were eating at home. We cleaned up our trash and left when we were done. Just didn't feel like they wanted us there. I didn't know this was the deal when I tipped 20%. i found out later that my tablemate who ordered after me was told that our food would be delivered in paper bags to go, but we could eat in. As always cheesesteaks were good. We ordered buffalo shrimp which were my favorite thing on the table. One of us ordered a hoagie and here's where things got unpleasant. The meat on the hoagie was sliced more than an eighth of an each thick. It was so think that it would barely fold in the sandwich. It made the sandwich not enjoyable.
