    Mussels - OMG
    Tracy B.

Have known and drive by the place for years and years, The Hubby and I were out on a drive (its our quiet time) and we stopped in. Expected crazy as it was Labor day but surprisingly was able to to walk right in & sat down. Sat upstairs on the deck, super cute view. Food was great, service was friendly and helpful. OMG THE BROTH... Order the mussels JUST to drink the butter, Seriously was going to ask to buy a gallon to go. Shrimp was just shrimp, but the seafood was great, Calamari was GOOD... Did I mention the mussels? Like seriously its 10am on a Monday and wondering how I can drink some for lunch today. It might have just been butter but they put magical fairy, crack dust or something in it because yeah - This girls fiending for more!! LOL Ok enough, Ill stop! But def take the ride up, have a good day, take some pics with the Giant lobster in the back!

We stopped here on our way to Maine. Right by the ocean. Tables have a view of a swamp, not the ocean. Clam chowder was good, but nothing special. All 20 year olds working there. Half of them don't know what they are doing. Tables are also dirty outside.

We're back on vacation and of course had to come to Ray's again. We've been here before and it's always solid. Didn't have to wait long, which was a nice surprise. I got the fried oysters (the small order, around $22) and they were awesome super crispy and fresh. Also tried the lobster baked haddock and wow, the portion was huge. Definitely get your appetite ready. We sat in the dining room. There was a family with really loud kids nearby for part of it, which was kind of annoying, but once they left it was much more enjoyable. Overall, love the food and the service. Everyone's always friendly and the meals are consistently great. We'll always make a point to stop here whenever we're in town.

The hubby and I stopped here for a late lunch. I really wanted some Seafood Chowder. They didn't disappoint. Tasted delicious!! My hubby got the Haddock dinner. I got the lobster roll. It was 6oz and that was way too much food. Everything was delicious. Service was great! The prices were average for a restaurant right off the coast. The decor is your typical Seashore themed. Lots of BIG lobster statues. We sat on the second floor so we had a great view of the ocean. We will definitely be coming back.

This is our second time visiting Ray's, first time this season. Tasty seafood at a reasonable price with great ocean views. Friendly, knowledgeable staff who give great service.

Good view of the ocean on the second floor. Great full-belly fried clams. Good service. One of my favorite spots when visiting New England for clams.

I love your fries! Super crunchy, clean tasty oil, calamari soft yet lovely crunch on the batter; tasty coleslaw (garlic flavor). Would love to taste their fish and chips next time.

The dining room is seat yourself. We sat upstairs and had a gorgeous view. Our waitress was super friendly and food came out quickly! We were not a fan of the fried clams. The crab cake was tasty and the bang bang shrimp was my favorite.

I've lived near this spot for years and years yet for some reason I've never gone. What the heck!…read moreWhile I'm kicking myself for not coming earlier, I am now very happy that I know this spot is perfect in every way! So I got the hot lobster roll and my boyfriend got the cold lobster roll (not pictured sadly). Personally, I prefer a warm buttery roll, but he loved his cold roll and said it was perfectly seasoned. You get a good amount of lobster and it's $30. The line... omg it was out the door and soooo long. But trust me. Stay! It's worth it. And they move super fast. The pricing overall was really good. We also got the lobster bisque which had chunks of lobster in it (I dipped my roll in it and it was magic). Only $10! And a good portion. But they have all sorts of things--Mac and cheese, shrimp cocktail, steamers... and next door you can get fresh seafood as well. This is seafood heaven. And again, I was content with the price for quality food. Now let me quickly talk about the view because that was awesome. We sat outside and watched the ocean because it's at Rye Harbor (as the name suggests). It's so relaxing. Especially on a beautiful day. Here's the one thing you may be iffy on. $10 to pay for parking for the day. 30 minutes free. If you think you can do it all in 30 minutes, go for it. But we didn't want to rush so we paid $10 for parking which is kind of eh. But I get it because the whale watch leaves from the harbor. A minor thing to know, but not something to deter you from coming. Though if you don't come... that's more lobster rolls for me!

Unfortunately, the food really missed the mark. The regular chowder was not hot and was lacking flavor. The fluffy chowder was also not hot. The lobster in the fluffy chowder was actually cooked well, but again, there just wasn't enough flavor. The clam chowder was cold, which is honestly a sin when it comes to chowder. It did have some nice, big clams, so I'll give it a 4/10 for that. Unfortunately, the foundation lacked flavor and the clams were overcooked. The lobster rolls were the biggest disappointment. The lobster claw meat was about five minutes overcooked, and overcooked lobster is whack. The bun also completely disintegrated, which made the roll very difficult to eat. 3/10. For what we paid, I expected much better execution. The seafood was consistently overcooked, the chowder wasn't served hot, and the flavors just weren't there. The good: Amazing views and genuinely friendly staff. The bad: Cold chowder, overcooked clams and lobster, bland flavor, and a bun that fell apart. I really wanted to love this place, but the food needs some serious improvement. The customer service was amazing, though. Food: 3/10 Service: 9/10 Views: 10/10

I highly recommend getting the jumbo, as the normal roll comes on a round roll which is much smaller. The cold roll has the crunchiest, juiciest, freshest lobster mixed with a bit of mayo and thinly sliced shallots. The lobster to bread ratio is HIGH and you can really taste the fresh lobster. The bottom of the roll is also coated with shredded lettuce. The lettuce is an awesome touch, as it keeps the roll from getting soggy and also adds an additional fresh crunch. The location of Petey's is awesome as well. It's located right on a little stream that leads to the beach. My favorite thing to do is bring a cold Petey's roll to the beach on a hot summer day. The service is also excellent, making this my #1 lobster roll spot when I'm visiting the Northeast.

We only come here once a year for our fried Seafood fix and this time we got here right after they opened at 11:30a, otherwise, you may not get a parking spot! Parking is very limited, and if you can, go during the week when it's less crowded! We started out with a Blue Moon and Sam Summer on Draft! Reasonably priced at $6.50 ea. My Partner was graving some Onion Rings and I a cup of Clam Chowder! Our Waitress brought the Rings and Chowder first! When it comes to the Onion Rings there were a few good ones that were on top and hanging of the edge, see pic, but the rest of them were just to thin and a greasy stringy fried mess, way to thin to pick up, enjoy, and dip in Ketchup! Certainly not worth the $10 price! I saved a picture, that I found online, of what a properly fried order of Onion Rings should look like, see below, compared to the Petey's Onion Rings! Now, my first impression of the Clam Chowder! I've never ordered the Clam Chowder at Petey's but it ended up being disappointment number two! After the first plastic spoon full it was more like Clam Soup, thin and not a thick a creamy chowder with succulent pieces of Clams as expected, instead there were just a few shredded tiny pieces of clams and mostly potatoes! Yuk! One of the worst Clam Chowder's I've ever had and I've had a lot of Clam Chowder's in my 60 years of living in New England! The person who makes this Chowder definitely needs a lesson in making a good Clam Chowder! How can they even serve this? They have 2 sizes a small for $8.60 and a medium for $9, only a .40 cent difference, which I found odd! Ok, it wasn't all bad! My Partner enjoyed her Fish (Haddock) and Chips and I my usual Combo of Scallops and Haddock! Most of everything that we've ordered, in the past, at Petey's, has always been good but if you go, do yourself a favor and skip the the disappointing Onion Rings and Clam Chowder and you'll save $19 bucks off your Tab! It'll probably be our last visit to Petey's ! Not the same as in past years! Time to find another favorite Seafood Spot! Would've given Petey's 4 Stars had it not been for the disappointing Onion Rings and Clam Chowder!...

It was OK but I wasn't a big fan of the brand of dipping sauce that they carry. Onion rings are delicious & I believe that they are homemade. It's an easy process as you go up to the counter to place your food & drink order. Visible menu on display with prices. You pay, get a number and can go inside & seat yourself. They will call out your number & bring your food to your table. On my first visit here staff was attentive and someone had come by to check on how we were doing & asked us if we needed anything. Not on this trip and it was busier on my 1st visit this year. My mom was craving whole belly clams & wanted to come here. We came around 4pm on a Tuesday. I decided I was going to get a lobster roll as I haven't had one on my visit while here in NH and I was ok with paying the crazy price of $29.99 and boy was I disappointed!! The texture of the lobster was odd.....it was soft, smooth & slippery. I've never had a lobster roll where the meat tasted like this before. Maybe it was super fresh? IDK but the lobster was lacking in the taste department. I got it with mayo. There was absolutely no spices/seasonings in it, no celery for that crunch, nothing. It was the worst lobster roll that I've ever had even the mayo didn't have any taste & I had asked for extra mayo. Oh & the bun, what was that?? One side looked like a hot dog roll & the other side looked like the butt end of a loaf of bread. It was barely even toasted on one side if that. Thank God for the onion rings as they were delicious & I knew that as I had them on my first visit. I told my mom how disappointed I was in their lobster roll and only ate 1/2 of it but due to the cost of it I had asked for a container to take the uneaten 1/2 home. I planned on adding some flavor to it with spices & some more mayo. Well the next day I decided I wasn't interested in it and offered it to my mom who gladly accepted. I asked her if she wanted me to put some seasoning in it & she said "no" well she agreed with me that it had NO flavor to it & was just as disappointed as I was. So unfortunately I don't recommend the lobster roll with mayo unless you like it to lack flavor. This last visit no one came to check on us & I saw 4 different girls in the eating area that worked there. My reasons for the 3 stars: 1. Prices 2. No flavor in the lobster roll, no hot dog bun, nor a toasted bun 3. Gross dipping sauce for your chicken tenders 4. Service in the inside seating area is a hit or miss I don't see myself coming back here unless I'm giving my mom a ride for her to get something to eat. She did enjoy her whole belly clams but even those were expensive. I know seafood can be pricey but I feel like their prices are not competitive with other places that serve seafood. This definitely isn't a fancy place so don't expect it to be. Food is served on paper, you get a little package with plastic silverware & a napkin. Staff aren't waiting on you. You get your own drink up at the soda fountain. These things I don't mind. I just expect my food to taste good & be satisfying which my most recent trip it wasn't.

The Parker House rolls were savory warm perfection and a great way to start the meal. My entree, the gnocchi with duck confit was one of the best things I've ever tasted (though very rich--I had to bring half home). And I tasted my dining companion's duck breast an it was also delicious (which they concurred in thinking). The dessert special was a sticky toffee pudding with bananas foster ice cream and peanut butter magic shell and I wish I could eat it every day. The only downsides were that (1) I didn't love the dessert cocktail (which was also absent a garnish), but it could also very well be personal preference and it was only $7, (2) it was freaking freezing in the restaurant. We were seated in a corner that didn't seem to have any baseboard heaters, and even though we weren't far from the fireplace, there was so little insulation on the windows we were all egregiously uncomfortable. The service was great, with the waitress very helpfully answering all our questions and brining each course with perfect timing. The food itself is on the expensive side, though I thought the drinks were normal for a nice restaurant (my other drink, which I enjoyed, was $13). But for the quality of the food, it's hard to complain.

We loved it so much we came back the next night at 4:30 in order to be first in line for a bar seat. Tables were fully booked that night. The decor is nothing to rave about, but there's nothing wrong with it either. And you can't beat the ocean view if you're lucky enough to get a seat near the front of the house. They serve various size of lobsters as well as cook them for you. However they do not provide place to eat or utensils so they function more as a market than a restaurant. They have sort of a parking lot where you can park. There are few works on the back hanging around and 2 younger staff that take care of orders. Lobster has quite few size options and some explanations for terms they use. We weren't sure what to get but figure we wanted larger size lobsters. SLX which is the largest ones were $14 per pound. They can also let you pick them live as well but we chose 2 lb ones. They charge $1.5 to boil but it's a-lot of work to boil properly so it's worth it. We waited about 20-25minutes or so and they also chilled it so that we can take it home to eat. Luckily we had ice box with some ice packs so it kept the lobster fresh until getting home. Once we got home we opened the bag to eat the lobster. It's a huge lobster with large claws. We got a large bowl and separate plate to eat. It was a massive task to crack the claws as one of the claw was huge and very tough. We ended up using a hammer and dull knife to crack them open. The meat was tender and sweet. One of the best maine lobster we had. Overall the place provides fresh maine lobster for good price. Only issue is that they don't serve it so you will need to plan to take it home and have tools to crack them open. They also only take cash. If i were to come back i would give them a call a head of time to have the lobster prepared to go and pick them up which seems to be what other people were doing.
