So I had a bit of nostalgia and decided I would try it again even though I don't live in that area I was there visiting a friend . $50 later I'm looking to play the food I cannot eat . I have not exactly sure it's all of the disgusting gross . I live equidistant between Raytown to Go and another Chinese restaurant, and I typically order from the other one. No particular reason, it was just the first one we tried and we became used to it. However, a couple of weeks ago, my boyfriend and I came down with Covid for a second time, and the only thing that sounded appetizing when we were sick was hot and sour soup and lo mein. Since Raytown to Go is on DoorDash and the other restaurant isn't, we ordered from Raytown to Go. I still prefer the lo mein from the other place, but the lo mein from Raytown to Go was more than adequate. Very tasty. I just prefer the thicker noodles and Raytown to Go's noodles are more spaghetti-like. But the hot and sour soup...that's really what our sick bodies craved, and it definitely did the trick. Plenty of spice to ease the congestion and it was nice and hearty and flavorful and everything I want in a hot and sour soup. Yesterday, I was running some errands and was craving Chinese food and Raytown to Go was on my way home, so I decided to stop in. I ordered curry chicken and some scallion pancakes. Curry chicken is my go to, and it did not disappoint. Plenty of spice and enough sauce to coat the rice the way I like. If I had anything negative to say about it it would be that it's a little salty for my liking, but then again, the usual place I go to also oversalts their curry chicken, so at this point I pretty much expect salty curry chicken. The scallion pancakes...now this is one of those items that I've heard about and seen on Chinese menus and have been interested in, but had never had a chance to try. Well, since I saw them on the menu at Raytown to Go, I decided to try them. They were SO GOOD! Super crispy and oniony and delicious. I think you're supposed to dip them in soy sauce, but they were delicious as-is. I don't like cabbage, so I'm the person that if I'm given an eggroll, I just eat the outside. The scallion pancakes taste like a super crispy eggroll wrapper chock full of scallions. I'll definitely be ordering that again. I'm looking forward to my next visit to Raytown to Go and trying some more of the different menu items, but I think the scallion pancakes will be a regular part of my future orders! read more

The scallion pancakes are my absolute favorite but the chicken sticks and crab rangoon are great too! My husband liked his general tsos and I previously got an enjoyed the black pepper chicken, the garlic chicken and fried noodles weren't my favorite but wasn't bad just not what I'm used to. I ordered almost 40 dollars worth of food. This is my favorite Chinese food place because the quality is better than anything else in town or around. With my food I ordered Appetizers A 05 (6) piece crab rangoon 4.55 A 13 House tray for (1) 5.75 Lo Mein L 06 shrimp lo mein 8.25 All day Combo special plate Served with fried rice, crab rangoon, and an eggrol. (When ordering this one on the phone I specifically said the one with the fried rice and sides just to be sure and inquired about a split payment between card and cash) (R8) general Tso's chicken 7.55 When the food arrived it was cold in the middle of every item, and I only received the fried rice with my general Tso's all day combo. No big deal my family is still hungry and it's an easy fix to just get the sides sent back out right? I called the place and the lady first told me I had to get the special order to receive the other items with the general Tso's and it would be 9.25 instead I responded with no, that is the chef special and the website says the 7.55 order under the app day combo comes with fried rice, egg roll and crab rangoon. After offering to send screen shots I was told I didn't tell her the special so it only comes with the rice and its 7.25 instead of 7.55 (I was charged the 7.55) It may be different in a phone order but there is no option in the website for just the chicken and rice. General Tso's is only available under 2 catagories The all day combo special (which has no options to choose just the chicken and rice it just has options for extra sauce or chicken) and the chef special with respective prices of 7.55 or 9.25 After going back and forth and reading straight from their website and paper menus from last time ordering I was tired of being told no over something so simple and I asked for my money back and would return all of the unopened food. I got hatred and rudeness, attitude and sighs and then I got screamed at that she was putting in a new order for the missing items and I said no I just want my money back and I want to go somewhere else the principal of the matter is I'm not satisfied, I've been polite thru the entire exchange never interrupting, raising my voice or anything. I'm not that type of person I work in the food service industry and highly value a good attitude and understanding goes a long ways. I was denied any refund and was hung up on with the items (2) arriving almost an hour later. Cold and hard not even worth eating. I was not given a receipt for my cash side of the transaction but I have my credit card receipt to the transaction and I'm sure it can be found. Over something so simple as 2 pieces of sides I was called a liar, yelled at told I ordered wrong, was refused a simple refund for luke warm food, (bottom of every container was even cold including the chicken) screamed at, and hung up on. This is my favorite chinese place. It's always a great time delivery or carryout or dine in, I dont understand it. I'll still go back, I still respect them but this was uncalled for over a few dollars worth of missing food after spending 32 dollars plus tip (I dont want the tip back or anything like that) I was understanding up to the point of having someone be that rude to me over something so simple. Don't let the casual name fool you. This family owned establishment makes great quality Chinese food for a good price. The delivery is prompt, although during these pandemic times you can expect a hasty parking by your house and a good honking after leaving the bag at your door and waiting for you to acknowledge that the order is received. This is a little Chinese place in a strip mall on 63rd St. When my friend first brought me here several months ago I was pleasantly surprised that the food was so good. She got Moo Goo Gai Pan and I ordered Shrimp Lo Mein, and both were excellent. However, when I ordered the Spring Rolls, I was horrified to find they were absolutely filled with black pepper. They weren't labeled as spicy, either. When I brought this to the cashier's attention, she said (in very broken English) that they weren't spicy - they had only pepper! and pointed to the pepper shaker. I told her that pepper made them spicy and I couldn't eat them, and she just said that a lot of people liked them that way. That was my first warning. The next time I went to dine in I had a cheap bottle of water placed on my table instead of a glass. I ordered the shrimp lo mein, and instead of lo mein flat noodles they used spaghetti, which ruined it for me. Spaghetti noodles just don't cut it for lo mein, anymore than chili cuts it in a taco shell. This last time I ordered & paid online during the pandemic. I got the House Appetizer Tray ($5.75) and the House Chef's Special Happy Family ($10.75). The total came to $20.52, but I was hoping to have enough leftovers for another meal. Included in that was $1 for fried rice instead of white. The food was ready when I arrived. When I got the receipt, however, I noticed that I had been charged $1.50 as a convenience fee. This despite the fact that I ordered and paid online, called to let them know when I got there, then went inside to pick up my order. As near as I could tell the convenience was all on their part. They didn't include any napkins or plasticware at all. Or a single fortune cookie. The appetizer tray consisted of a fantail shrimp, a crab Rangoon, a chicken wing, an egg roll, chicken on a stick, and a spare rib. The last was so dry and tough it was all but inedible, but the others were okay. But the entree was sadly lacking. It was described as "a combination of shrimp, scallops, chicken, pork, beef, & crabmeat sauteed w. snow peas, carrots, water chestnuts, mushrooms, bamboo, broccoli, & baby corn in brown sauce." Well, I did find 2 scallops, shrimp, and all the other meats. But the dish was full of zucchini, barely cooked huge pieces of cabbage, large underdone slices of celery, and green beans, some very dry and stringy. There was not a snow pea in sight. I found two mushrooms hiding in the bottom. No bamboo shoots. Lots of carrots, though. A few baby corn. One water chestnut. The brown sauce was nice, as was the meat, but one taste of the celery and cabbage and I picked them out. They ruined the dish utterly. You know a Chinese place is going downhill when they begin to cut corners by substituting cheap American veggies for traditional Chinese ones. Another place I used to go to cut corners by loading every dish down with huge amounts of onions, barely cooked. I picked them out of one entree & discovered they compromised half the dish! There are way too few decent restaurants in Raytown, but this place is pretty dang great. Yuki, who I believe is the owner, is awesome. She talks really REALLY fast, and has a pretty strong accent, so I think a lot of folks mistake her for rude, but...she's just a lets-get-down-to-business type of gal. She's actually pretty funny if you get her talking. Today when I picked up my order, I asked her if they could make a certain Cantonese dish that I really like, and showed her a picture of the Chinese characters for it (椒鹽蝦). She said "Yeah, we can make it", and I was like "Oh! How do you pronounce it?", and I attempted the Chinese pronunciation (jiao yan xia), and she looked at me kinda humorously and said "Don't. Just say 'salt and pepper shrimp'". Hah! I get the same thing from here once a week - the lunch special shrimp fried rice. Their shrimp, shockingly, actually tastes like the ocean, instead of, well...nothing like most quick service restaurants who use farmed shrimp. And they give it a nice light coating of cornstarch, which I love. Plus the fried rice has enormous chunks of egg, and is super smokey from their wok. This place is one of KC's most hidden treasure ran by a lovely husband and wife team. I've been ordering from them for years and the food is ALWAYS fresh, hot, and delicious! Some of my favorite dishes from there are the Mongolian beef, moo shu chicken, and combination lo mein. If you want to add a beautiful cherry on top, then definitely get their crab Rangoon! As a Raytown native, when a new place opens up, I have to check it out. Just like the rest of the Woodson Village Shopping Area, the exterior of Raytown To-Go is nothing to gawk at and will have you second guessing whether you should step inside or not. Once inside, you will find a rather charming and clean interior. The music is soft and the tables are sparkling clean. I ordered the fried dumplings and the shrimp fried rice. The food came out quickly. While definitely not on the same level of my favorite Kin Lin or New Peking in Kansas CIty, Raytown To-Go was surprisingly tasty. Tried the shrimp and green beans today. Not so good. I thought it would be shrimp and beans only but, it came with other veggies. Celery, Zuchinni, and carrots to name a few. It had cabbage too. Like, huge pieces of cabbage. That was a turn off. I picked those out. The shrimp was over cooked and overall, not my favorite dish. I ordered egg rolls and got Crab Rangoon instead. One of the very few Chinese restaurants open ( In this area) during this COVID-19 situation. We tried the cashew chicken and orange chicken and both were very good. We got crab Rangoon, spring rolls and fried dumplings for appetizers and those were all very good as well! I tried the hot n sour soup but was not a fan. It didn't have any heat to it at all. The reality is Americans don't get real Chinese food. We get Americanized fast Chinese. We all know it. We all accept it. Having accepted this fact, raytown to go makes the best fast Chinese food I've had in my life. Is it light years better than any other hole in wall Chinese? No. But it is my opinion that they are "better" in taste, quality of sauces, and service. Most of the dishes are the same as any other hole in the wall Chinese. But I feel they take a little extra effort to make the sauces taste a little better than the others. They cook the food better. The texture seems better. I think much of the care they use when making your dish edges them above other Chinese places everything else being equal. I believe it is a husband and wife owned shop. For me that means more than a PF Changs etc. This couple busts their backside every day to make this place work. For a hole in the wall, they keep it very clean inside. Most places don't care that much about cleanliness. Sticky tables, etc are the norm. But these folks always keep it as clean as possible. I like that and I am sure others of you out there will appreciate that as well. I like supporting small family owned business. And the fact they work so hard and keep this place as clean as they do day in and day out tells me this place is their life, a future for their children. And I won't even go into how absolutely adorable and well behaved their kids are. They usually hang out in the corner table so mom and dad can keep an eye on them and if you sit waiting for your food and watch them you'll agree they are great kids. None of that has anything to do with the food. But for those that appreciate hard working, family owned businesses this is one to add to your list. Again this place is clean! For a hole in the wall. If we want to sit down we go to MaMa China, if we want Thai or Vietnamese we go to BlueYu, if we're desperate and need a drive thru we go to Shanghai Express. Raytown To-Go is open later than the rest and they deliver. They have a lot of choices on the menu. They are quick and take pride in what they do. I've heard complaints about the owner being rude, but I think it's just a cultural difference. She wants you to have a good experience so if you're late picking up your food, she's mad because it's cold. Don't let that deter you from eating here. No one in my family would eat more than 1 piece, and we usually love this dish. The crab rangoon is the only thing i have eaten and the only thing i go for because it is the best crab rangoon ive ever had. I live 3 mins from here and i call ahead and order them and by the time i get there it is piping hot and fresh ready to go. The women at the counter is very friendly and fast.
