It may not be the most updated hotel on the boardwalk, but it has everything you need. The staff is always welcoming, the house keeping staff are friendly and trustworthy, the parking lot is gated and secured by a guard throughout the day, the rooms are always clean the grounds are well maintained, and after all the years of being loyal visitors, we have yet to experience anything negative at this property. I love that the grounds are secure and you can allow your children to go into the courtyard area and play the provided games with peace of mind- knowing that they'll be safe. They provide tons of outdoor seating options and grills for tenants, which makes cooking a breeze. In order to enter from the beach/boardwalk, you must have a room key to enter the premises- another awesome perk. This keeps all the riff-raft out of the area. &At night, they also require a room key to enter through the front of the building- which is a newer feature, and much appreciated. You can leave your beach toys & chairs outside your room without worrying about someone coming to steal it. We have locked our bikes up downstairs in the courtyard area & nobody messes with them. This is such a great place to stay & an amazing tradition that our family has. We look forward to our visit every May!

Obviously some things are out of peoples control, and I'm beyond grateful for the We stayed in a King Suite, which was super comfortable and the access to the bay was just steps from our room right onto the beach. My dog also had a wonderful time!!! He was welcomed just as much as we were. Having the ability to swim and play fetch in the bay really made our trip whole. I paid an arm and a leg for the room but it was absolutely massive and I had sliding glass doors directly onto my own private patio which was right next to the pool overlooking the ocean, it was really incredible despite how outdated the room felt, somehow the size of the room made it more modern and it felt clean. The people at the front desk were young, fun, outgoing, really friendly and I appreciated that. They told me about some happy hour they were having later in the day and I felt very welcome here unlike other hotels I stayed at in the San Diego area. The bathroom was huge in my room, very weird vibe, like felt cabin-like, I don't know how else to explain it, but it was spacious, big countertop by the sink plenty of room to get ready. The coffee bar had an enormous countertop which was great for keeping all of my things, huge mirrors everywhere too. The bed was really comfortable, again great view outside, awesome staff. It was so nice to be able to walk the boardwalk and pop back in here whenever I needed to grab something or use the restroom. Walking distance to everything. Highly recommend, I would definitely stay here again. But I probably won't because the cost is INSANE. Sorry but it is. Also housekeeping found my jewelry box loaded with jewelry and returned it to the front desk who subsequently shipped it back to my house for me. For a charge of course but I do appreciate the honesty of the staff that goes a long long way! Thank you!!

We also enjoyed breakfast at The Grill. My 9-year-old son absolutely loved the pancakes, while my husband and I both ordered omelets that were incredibly flavorful and perfectly cooked. Every meal we had was excellent. One of our favorite parts of the stay was relaxing by the pool and enjoying the gorgeous views. The hotel also made the Fourth of July extra special for families by hosting a fun celebration with crafts, cookies and lemonade, cookie decorating, and kites for the kids to fly. This was truly a memorable stay, and we can't wait to return next year. The staff here were incredibly friendly and attentive. They not only were knowledgeable about the menu, everyone worked together as a team to ensure seamless service start to finish. Also snagged the chicken tenders and fries which were great. Another dish ordered were the hamburgers from the kids menu, which also came back as a winner for us. Regarding the drinks, I am happy to report the Froze Rose was a massive hit! None of the tastes were overwhelming, perfectly mixed adult frozen beverage . For being pool side food, I was so impressed by how good the food was. The pool itself is very family friendly. I didn't see any life guards, and I'm not sure if that is standard at every hotel resort pool. There is a splash pad for kids with seating surrounding it, which can be fantastic for the younger kids (younger than 5 or 6) to enjoy some time in the pool as well. My children had a wonderful time & there were so many friendly kids including us in their play time. One of the many reasons I absolutely love San Diego-we are just one of a kind when it comes to the vibes. Always a great idea to get a resort pass, which is what we did here. Parking is included that way, but there is free parking just outside the parking lot all along the road in the event you want to take that route. The grounds for the hotel are absolutely gorgeous and well put together. So excited for future trips back to Mission Bay Resort!

Long but I wanna give the good and bad…read more When we arrived there was $400 in extra fees waiting for us. This was very frustrating, and really started our stay off on an irritating note. Then our room wasn't ready in the tower at 4, so they "upgraded" us to a villa. The villa was dark and had tile floors through out the whole room, which just felt icky, and not homey at all. My husband ended up telling the front desk we were extremely uncomfortable with the room, and we would be happy to just cancel our reservation. They made it right and truly upgraded us to a very pretty room in the tower with carpet throughout, only vinyl in the entry. We even noticed the toilets were higher quality in this room. Odd thing to notice but just true. The room itself was much lighter and brighter. When my husband was moving our stuff to the new room the maid got upset with him because apparently the front management had already chastised her about the room not being clean but we never said it wasn't clean, just not comfortable for us. ( On the contrary it actually smelled strong of cleaning products.) So he just apologized and moved our stuff. After moving tho, the staff was wonderful very friendly very accommodating. The room felt clean and comfortable and we rented bikes from the little sports shop and went to the amazing large kids parks up the road. Very fun, and pretty ride. Couple things we loved was: watching the drone show, the food at the restaurant, very plush towels and centrally located for all our plans which included Encinitas and Coronado trips. One final note, we swam 4 times during our trip and by the end of it my daughter's eyes were so irritated. Her eyes were watering and red. After sleeping on the car ride they were better. We have a pool at home so I knew this wasn't normal for her. Google says that the chemicals were too low in the pool and not properly managed... she's fine now but note to self always wear googles.... We won't be staying here again, but we did ultimately enjoy our time here. I hope this is helpful to the hotel as well as future residents.

Pros: - the facility itself is impressive and the grounds were well kept - the live musician was talented and even engaged with some kids dancing up front - some of the small bites were quite good including 1 of the 4 savories and most of the sweet eats Cons: - the service was atrocious. The timing and attentiveness of service was some of the worst I've had. And this is unreal because that is essentially what you are paying for on a Mother's Day tea party - service and attentiveness. I couldn't believe for an establishment such as this that the management would accept the awful service. - Timing: We were seated ~30min past our seating time. We were not spoken to for the first ~15min after seating. They didn't adjust the sun umbrella until ~20 min after seating. The food took a forever back and forth due to issues (see below). Then to get our required valeted car - the line was over a 45 min wait (the line occupied the entire front of the hotel)! - Attentiveness: We were seated in the direct sun despite requesting to not be. We informed them of a walnut allergy for one of my kids via the OpenTable reservation. Then we had to inform the host as we were seated because they didn't know. The host wrote it on the back of a ticket. The waiter picked up the ticket. Then the person came to get our tea and he asked if we had any allergies. We mentioned the walnuts which he had no idea. Then, they brought us out food with walnuts!! haha. Unreal. We informed the delivering waiter (a different one than the rest). They took the kids tray away and then finally delivered a tray for our kids that had about half the original quantity. They didn't even serve the whole course to the non-allergic child. It was unbelievably inconsiderate. You can imagine how happy our Mom was on her special day as we all sat wondering what would happen to the kids food. - Tea: It was nothing special with one completely bitter. Never again. Advise to avoid on Mother's Day and go anywhere else.
