After plenty of days of gelato and pizza, it was sooo nice to come across a clean, healthy spot! The workers were kind and knowledgable. I started with a juice full of greens, carrot and ginger. Strong ginger flavor, but just what my body needed! I proceeded to ask the employee to make me a sandwich of his choice on multigrain with smoked salmon and no dairy. He put on some vegetables and pesto. Thick sandwich too! Very clean and delicious. They even have different kinds of marinated tofu. Super close to the Vatican too!!

Good healthy sandwiches and good juice! Grabbed some food here before touring the Vatican. A nice change from eating pizza and pasta everyday! I was starting to get sick of carbs so I'm glad I came here. #3 with turkey on wheat (4 stars): Good mozzarella! Good sandwich. Apple, pineapple, lemon, ginger juice (5 stars): Refreshing! Just needed more ice. I notice juice bars in Italy don't really add ice, but it's so hot!! ATMOSPHERE Only about 3 seats on a bar table so but we got lucky and snagged them! SERVICE Everyone was so nice here. Menu was in Italian and they translated it for us. Great service.

NOTE THAT FA-BIO HAS MOVED DOWN THE BLOCK TO #71 -- BIGGER AND BETTER THAN EVER, NOW WITH SIDEWALK SEATING!

This is our favorite sandwich place in Rome! We first discovered Fa-Bio in 2014, and had some of the best vegan sandwiches with tofu slices that we have ever had. On this trip we were passing through Rome for just one day, and we purposely booked a hotel near Fa-Bio so that we could eat there again, AND get sandwiches for the long flight home. Turns out that Fa-Bio has moved down the block, and is now located in a larger space at 71 Via Germanico. They now have outdoor sidewalk seating, which is a great addition. The owner is a wonderful human being, and he took great care of us. We highly recommend the vegan sandwiches with smoked tofu and also the basil tofu. We only wish we could buy this same brand of tofu in the United States, but it is available only in Europe.

These were some of the best (and most interesting) sandwiches we had in Europe. The staff there were extremely friendly and took the time to run us down their entire menu (we were there on a weekday in the off season though). Amazing value though; 12.50 for two sandwiches and a medium juice. A fun side-note: we bought lunch here and then took it to wait in line for the Vatican museum. Definitely the way to go. You get an excellent sack lunch and don't mind the wait as much and save some money from not having to eat the "blessed" food inside the museum. ;-)

Eating healthy is very important to me, trying to find a healthy place in Italy is a bit of a challenge. I am glad we found this place! It's exactly what you need if you are feeling low on vitamins and just need fresh vegetables. They make fresh pressed juices with any combination you would like. The sandwiches were amazing! We ordered the tuna sandwich with tomatoes and avocados. The service was so sweet! They offer good recommendations and are very accommodating if you have any food allergies. Definitely recommend!!

This was the freshest, healthiest, most satisfying food during a week long stay in Rome. And it was affordable! Sandwiches are 4 euro; smoothies 3.5 euro. And it is very close to the Vatican-- between the Vatican museums and the Otaviano metro stop. We ordered smoothies (the owner can suggest lots of combinations and even carries rice milk and soy milk) and make-your-own sandwiches. We got sunflower-whole-wheat bread with smoked salmon, avocado, tomato, lettuce and the owner suggested the zucchini pesto which was incredible. In total, this was an amazing lunch for 15 euro for 2 people-- very fresh. It seems most of the ingredients are organic and everything is super fresh. The tiny shop also sold: wrap sandwiches, fresh made juices (your own combination), amazing looking salads, packaged cookies and some muffins as well as the usual bottled drinks and I saw a coffee machine. You can tell this place is well loved- just in the space of 20 minutes we saw many locals come in and chat with the owner and pick up something to eat. The owner is very nice and friendly and speaks perfect English and Italian. My only suggestion is to invest in a high powered blender (Vitamix or Blentec) so that he can expand into green smoothies. Thank you Fabio for a fantastic lunch!

We split a salad that was big enough for a meal, my wife had the bolognese, and I had the steak. It was super rare, but as I cut into it, I would lay it onto the stone to allow it to cook a bit more. I like it on the lean side of medium rare and my wife prefers a bit more. This was perfect for us to both enjoy it the way we like. Her pasta was excellent as well and we enjoyed sharing the meal. A bottle of wine topped off a great dinner. The weather was rainy so we opted to sit inside and it was warm and welcoming. Our waiter was helpful with our choices and we enjoyed his observations. The only thing I can say that was off, was the older woman who was paying her bill before me was pressured into leaving a tip ( service charge, is what he said). I was prepared for that but was not asked to tip. Great meal, we enjoyed it immensely, but the service charge that was scammed out of the 70+ year old lady in front of me kind of left a sour taste in my mouth. I was going to tip a few euros because we enjoyed ourselves so much, but decided not to because of the way it was presented to the party before us.

We had a calzone and traditional spaghetti and both were delicious. I don't even know how to describe the calzone. It was unlike anything I've had before but SO good. I literally cleaned my plate with the last of the breading from it. The owner/chef was Luca. He was upset with the host because he had burned the plastic on the outdoor tent as he had placed a heater too close to it. To be honest, he seemed like a bit of a jerk, but his food was freaking delicious.

This is no ordinary pizza place, it's a forno, which is Italian for oven. Naturally, someone here looked at the bread, looked at the toppings, and said, Yes, this shall be pizza now. We kicked things off with the Margherita, the classy queen of pizzas, literally. Named after Queen before Italy decided to liberate itself, this was your classic tomato-mozzarella-basil situation. Red, Green and White like the Italian Flag. Regal. Nostalgic. Tastes like a monarchy that actually works. Then came the potato pizza, which, let me tell you, was a surprise carb ambush. Like, Oh cute, a slice of starch on starch. Bread with potatoes on it. For when your body is craving a food coma. And then came the Marinara, my personal Roman romance. No cheese, all attitude. Spicy, saucy, simple. Like that one ex who was too intense but kind of unforgettable. Let's talk style: Roman pizza is not your floppy Neapolitan mess that folds into a pizza burrito the moment it hits your plate. No no, Roman pizza stands its ground. It's a little thicker and definitely crunchier. You don't need to roll it, cradle it, or whisper encouragement. It just is. And I love it more than I probably should. La Renella is where bread goes to find its higher purpose which is to be pizza.

It is with a heavy heart that I write this review…read more.. As a vegetarian who wishes she was a vegan, I want to love all vegan restaurants. I especially wanted to love this tiny place set off of restaurant lined Via della Lungaretta in Trastavere as the signage touted "cruelty free" and there is not a plethora of vegan restaurants in Rome. The sandwiches pictured on the menu appeared appetizing, although most featured fake meat which should have been the first indication that I was about to be disappointed. I ordered the focaccia vegan, and on the recommendation of the only employee on duty during the busy lunch rush, my mom ordered the vegan burger and my dad ordered the vebab. The customer ahead of us had placed a very large order so we had to wait about 30 minutes for our food at a place touted as "fast food". Each sandwich came with a salad of lettuce and tomatoes, which was fresh and nice but nothing special, as well as a side of some unidentifiable potato concoction that resembled fingers and, maybe this is the American in me, was in serious need of ketchup. When our food was finally ready, I was so thankful I had saved the majority of my water bottle, as my sandwich was almost completely bread with a tiny slice of frittata in the middle. The bread had been previously frozen (I was looking at it in the freezer in front of my seat) and was therefore very dry and I could literally only choke down about half of it (I only ate that much because at this point I was starving). My parents had similar experiences, and my dad's fake kebab meat had a very strange flavor. The adorable couple from Hamburg, Germany who arrived after us summed it up quite eloquently and politely by saying "um... We have had better!". One star for the very sweet service from the woman working there all by herself, and also for the baby who kept waving and laughing at me.
