Earlier this year a slab leak turned into a major remodeling project. Thank God for Jan Nickolai-Knox the owner of this remarkable company! This quickly became an insurance claim nightmare. Adjusters findings were riff with errors and ommissions, but Jan would have none of it. She took the burden off my shoulders, detailed their wrong conclusions multiple times and stayed with it until a proper settlement was reached. Don't let the location fool you! Stone Depot doesn't have a ritzy showroom that can be seen from the street and it's a bit tricky to find being tucked away in an industrial area. Just be persistent because your persistence will pay off. The countertop in my remodeled bathroom is perfect! Jan was by far the most attentive of all of the vendors I shopped during my project. She gets an A+ for communication. We were always on the same page. The slab I picked out was discontinued, but Jan worked her magic and found one! So happy we found Stone and Cabinet Depot! We needed to do a small upgrade in our kitchen and in our upstairs bathroom. We were novelists, as this was our first time doing any kind of renovation to our home, so nervous would be an understatement. However, Jan and her team, did a great job of taking care of everything. I needed a full kitchen remodel so I had been getting crazy estimates from some of the places at the SD home show. They were all over 10K and most of them said the granite and kitchen cabinets would take about 2 weeks to finish which I thought was totally ridiculous. Home Depot and Lowe's was the same thing. Don't even bother with Cabinets-To-Go, their ads are totally misleading. So I was really glad to have found Peter & Sean from Stone Depot which was close by to my house at the last minute. And since I know exactly what I wanted for cabinets their granite selection they had in their show room were all very good choices and something I would have chosen anyways so that part was easy. Stone Depot will have installers if you need them which I did end up using and they did their job in conjunction & coordinating with the granite installation which was a plus. Stone Depot will have your slabs ready to go in 1-2 days right after your base cabinets are laid down and template. They will come back out and be done with the job in one day. I could NOT find any granite guys that could do that. I posted pictures of my kitchen so you can see the extent and quality of their work. We started on Mon 8am and I had a fully working beautiful kitchen by Friday 6pm. Not too shabby huh? The total price of the granite & installation with an under mount sink + only the cabinets (not installed) = 5k. Then to have the cabinets installed and everything else done by Stone Depot's reference,.. total was $7600. That does not include the appliances. The Viking D3 range was 3k, Bosch $600, and Zephyr hood was $700 all from Pacific sales, the price includes FREE delivery and installation and I also got 18 mos 0% financing so that was nice. read more

I did have my own tile guy install the backsplash but he commented on how well the countertop was installed (by Jan's guy) as sometimes they run into problems. Unable to drop a full year's salary on a kitchen, we read good reviews about Stone Depot. I didn't expect miracles, as the big box places had thoroughly stomped out my enthusiasm. HOWEVER, I was extremely surprised by Stone Depot. Not to sound cheesy, but they delivered me EVERYTHING I wanted, plus cool bonuses, all within budget. The price came in right at budget even after tax. It included 20+ pieces of cabinets (inc'l 2 full pantry cabinets, spice drawer, lazy Suzan cabinet, trash cabinet and wine rack), countertops, a undermount sink, and an awesome swan-neck faucet. The only thing in the kitchen NOT from stone depot was the appliances (though I'm sure Peter and John know a guy) :-) Every little hiccup or bump in the road was handled by John, and handled very professionally and super fast . The communication was great, timeline was extra speedy, and ALL of their installers were courteous and nice. I love my kitchen and wanted to thank everyone at Stone Depot a million times over. Don't let you get fooled by the lack of a fancy showroom, or lack of a fancy office full of sales people! We recently bought a house, and we wanted to get rid of all the carpet and tiles, and put luxury vinyl in all the floor. We also wanted to change the old kitchen countertop to quartz. We shopped around more than half a dozen places, and we are so happy that we ended up choosing Stone Depot for our home renovations! Jan and her team were very helpful, detailed, and skilled. The materials used were very high quality, and her team accommodated to our short time constraints, even working on a bank holiday, so it could be finished before we moved! They actually took less time than estimated. And from all the people who came give us an estimate at the house, I believe that Chichi was the only one who arrived on time! The other day we found that in the guest room one of the vinyl planks moved slightly, and after telling her, the next day someone already showed up and fixed it in a breeze! Definitely will visit her again for when we decide to renovate our bathrooms. Also, we are new around the area and she also helped us find a good plumber, we really appreciated that too! We waited six months to write this review and and are happy to say we love our new kitchen more and more. What started out as a need for new countertops in our 65 year old kitchen turned into a "down to the studs" project to replace termite eaten wood and upgrade ancient plumbing and electrical to bring everything up to code... unexpectedly!! Stone Depot did a custom granite top for my new BBQ island. I designed the island with the BBQ Galore team in Encinitas and the island came "naked" with just hardy backer board over a steel 2x4 frame structure. The island was designed with open cut-outs for all the BBQ components. Another contractor did the stucco siding and Stone Depot did the multi-level counter tops. The design looked simple on paper but became more complicated as the project went on. Peter and Sean at Stone Depot were great to work with, and were very flexible and accommodating on the design changes ... with very FAIR and REASONABLE pricing. We picked out a beautiful granite stone in their showroom, the slabs were picked out by Peter and then arrived back at their store for our final inspection. See the pictures ... I think the pattern and color is really beautiful. Note: try to select lighter colors for outdoor projects like this to avoid too much heat from the sun. The stone was installed in stages. First they laid out templates to fit the naked island counter tops and appliance cutouts (5 cut-outs and 6-7 different surfaces including a radius counter). Next they cut and laid the main counter top sections, and then the BBQ Galore team installed all the BBQ kitchen components. Then Stone Depot returned to put in the backsplashes, 2nd level counter/bar areas, and all the "apron" sections underneath the counter tops. The total installation time was probably 4-5 days spread over about 2 weeks. This was a very custom job with lots of detail work. Their installer Victor did a fantastic job, including bevel cuts for the radius apron and good seam matching of the granite pattern which has lots of inconsistent swirls. We decided to use Stone & Cabinet Depot based on the good yelp ratings, and they did not disappoint. The process was very smooth and Jan was very helpful throughout the entire process. The field crew was great and easy to work with as well. We were able to barely make a single slab work for our kitchen layout, and they were still able to work the slab so that the seams were barely noticeable. 12/17/14: Threatened with legal action against my truthful review by Sean at Stone Depot. On his request, I'm posting more details, photos and e-mail records to: http://stonecabinetdepot.blogspot.com to support my review. We were eager to start redoing our kitchen piece by piece. When we got to new granite counters, I shopped around. Based on the pricing, service offered, and general impression I got from Stone and Cabinet Depot, we signed a contract. That was when the fun began. I should note that this is not the first granite countertop I've bought. In the DC area, we bought granite for a great price, and had a pain free templating and install process with literally zero complaints (Richstone Granite, Springfield, VA). As background, we had a due date for our first baby. Our goal was to have this work done before the baby was born. This means, one of our evaluation criteria when selecting a contractor was ability to meet our timetable. Stone and Cabinet Depot did not come close to meeting their proposed schedule. In fact, the entire project showed a callous disrespect for my time, considering everytime they were supposed to show up to complete the job, I had to take off work. I would be told the day before that they would show up at 9, so I would take a morning off. I'd then get a no-show until I call their office, and end up getting someone to show up at 11:30. For the counter demolition, not only were they late, they forgot to bring a hammer needed to complete the demo. I'll repeat that, THEY DIDN'T BRING A HAMMER to a demo job. Instead of going back to the office to get it, they did what they could do and then said they'd just finish the next day. Great. Another day to take leave from work. The previous counters were tile/concrete so the demolition of the countertops was messy with concrete rubble and dust. As a "professional" outfit, you'd expect that they'd then take a shop-vac and clean up the rubble/dust so that when new countertops are installed, all that rubble and dust doesn't get mixed into the glue/caulk, and just as a matter of respect for the shelving underneath the countertop, you don't just leave all the rubble. They left all the dust and rubble. I had to vacuum it as best I could, but as I found, there are tons of nooks and crannies in the framing and found new dust and rubble for weeks after. I don't think I'm crazy to expect this simple step to be done, since literally every other type of home improvement contractor makes clean-up a priority. So mark that down, not on time a single time they showed up, and demo took 2 days instead of 1 because they forgot a hammer. The countertop was supposed to be fabricated and brought over to be installed the next day. In fact, I was told it would be. I then put in for another day off work to wait for the install. Another no-show at the agreed upon start. A call to the office reveals that they do not have the granite yet. Another day off work lost. The next day, I take off again to deal with them. I have to go into the office to look at two slabs they brought down. Yes, two slabs, not one. Our kitchen counter is not that big. It's small in the grand scheme of things. Sitting in the yard, they have two dusty slabs sitting in the sun and they tell me this is what they got for the job. I look at it, it looks OK, but note that I'm not the granite professional. I've only really seen installed granite before. They assure me it will look good, I trust the professionals I contracted with. Finally, the next day, they say they will show up to do the install at 9 AM. I take off another day of work. They do not show up at 9 AM. They show up at 11 AM. Par for the course. Very annoying. They actually have the granite. Great. Luckily, I already on a daily basis have been vacuuming the debris from the demo that has collected in my cabinets and they appear ready for the install. I let the guys do their thing, and around 5 PM, they finished, clearly ready to go. I was underwhelmed to say the least. Our kitchen has red walls, the granite was dark grayish. So they decided to caulk the backsplash with white caulk, which looked cartoonish. They also sloppily applied the caulk onto the wall, so there was a jagged edge of white caulk along the top edge of the backsplash. During the install process, they put two holes into the drywall accidentally and just left it there, thinking I wouldn't notice. The damaged the wood cabinet next to our oven and just left it there. They did not seal our stainless cooktop with caulk to the countertop. They just left the cooktop floating on top of the countertop, leaving it for me to try and seal. Finally, the biggest problem. Those two separate slabs they used, they didn't match. At all. They came back 2 more times to treat the granite with darkener, which improved it. So for full price, we got terrible service, terrible schedule keeping, and subpar product. Look elsewhere. read more

I drove up here to Stone & Cabinet Depot based on all the reviews because I have been hitting serious roadblocks finding decent cabinetry that doesn't cost a million dollars or sleazy salesmen. I took a bit of time to check out the tile before someone was available to help me. I didn't catch the name of the guy who spoke with me because he literally took his business card out of my hand. I wasn't impressed with the showroom either, not much to look at really. I had questions about the cabinetry, he couldn't answer. He gave me a card and said they have a 60 day back log right now, and I said that probably won't work for me. He literally snatched the business card back out of my hand, and walked away. Just so you know, I literally had several thousands of dollars in cash on me, ready to buy new kitchen cabinets and tile. If you are looking to save time and money I highly recommend stone depot. We had a kitchen remodel that required all new cabinets, countertop and backsplash and a baby in the way with a deadline of 60 days. We began to price out the project beginning with custom cabinet providers which came in at about $18k for the woodwork. This was using particleboard so we ventured to compare with home depot and lowes which both came in at about $15k. We then went to Costco and their pricing was much more reasonable and had a design service as well which helped nail down some design aspects we had not thought through. The Costco pricing ended up at $10k so with that we ventured to source out our stone. We were referenced to Sean at stone depot and when we approached him we found he would be a good source the cabinets as well and at a total cost of $6k!!! As a matter of fact we ended up sourcing all our kitchen features from Sean because he was so helpful and beat all pricing I managed to source including Internet prices. This included cabinets, countertops, backsplash and sink. The cabinets and installation came in on time. Stone selection fabrication and installation completed as expected. And our kitchen came out beautifully. I would only caution that we decided to take gone most of the integration work for the cabinets and sink and were not prepared for some aspects of that work. Its kind of a long story, so I will give the cliff note version. We bought a Ryland Home in San Elijo Hills and they used an inferior product (e-stone) on all the standard counter tops in all the bathrooms. E-stone is marble dust and resin. Being mostly marble everything etches it, toothpaste, anything acid or base, even Windex. So why did Ryland use it? It was cheap. We complained to Ryland (now Cal Atlantic Homes) and all they would do is re-polish the surface once during the one year home warranty. So, our options were go legal and probably loose as Ryland has better lawyers or suck-it-up and replace the counter in all four bathrooms. So, we consulted Yelp and found Stone Depot and got a bid from John for not only replacing the counter tops in 3 of the 4 bathrooms, but adding ledge stone to the master bath that matched the existing tile. We had to work closely with the installers as we removed the hideous counter cabinets Ryland built in the master bath and all the mirrors and replaced them with custom mirrors that had to be install over the ledge stone--not a standard install. The long and short of it was Stone Depot did an excellent job at a very reasonable price. The installers were knowledgeable and very helpful and now we have bathrooms that are not only serviceable, but they are a major WOW factor in our home. Thanks Stone Depot. read more

I have been meaning to write a review for years now. I went into Stone Depot (before they had cabinets) to get travertine for our very large remodel. We bought well over 1400 sq ft of natural stone for flooring and bathrooms. The quality and colors were consistent and beautiful - my favorite were the Scabo accents. Peter the owner always made sure what we received was matching the original colors - if something came in that was questionable - he would take a sample and color match it. For me, spending a little extra time waiting for the perfect material was well worth it, Victor installed all the granite in our home he is fabulous- and our home is truly beautiful. Our first rental property that needed a major overhaul - I went straight in to see Peter and Sean, this time for flooring and cabinets. We installed a beautiful wood patterned ceramic plank floor, what a great option for a rental house- it's stunning. This time we added an entire kitchen with cabinets and granite counters, Victor made me a beautiful curved edge on an overhang of granite. Their cabinets are really quality, solid woods with current designs, deep drawers - and granite selections are really beautiful. The cabinets are as close as I've seen to my custom cabinets in my own home. These guys are not only a nice as they come but really care about the end results!
