Ok, this is a breakfast spot and a sandwich spot. Kinda like a coffee shop but not. Nice building, lots of small tables up front, seating off to the side and even some outdoor seating. We were hungry and in a hurry. This spot was perfect. It's at the north end of town, just a short jump off the freeway and you don't need to go through the crowded downtown area. My wife had a mushroom omelette and I had a pastrami sandwich. It came out fast, looked good and tasted perfect. I really needed a sandwich like this one. Just had a $18 French dip it was GREASY and the roast beef was dry and so little in the sandwich I couldn't believe they would serve it.. my friend had a 1/2 sandwich missing a decent amount of meat as well and cup of soup..also way over priced for what they put in Front of us.. One of the best breakfast places I've ever had! If you're in Ashland absolutely stop by- the food portion was huge, the service was great, and the price was very reasonable. We heard a lot of good things about this place, so we decided to stop by. Parking lot is on the side of this restaurant, and the view from the parking lot is very beautiful! The restaurant is small, warm, and cozy. Menu is very simple, but still have variety. We ordered mountain man, eggs Benedict, ham with eggs and toast. Food was decent and flavorful. Our server was very attentive that they kept refilling our coffee and water. The only bad side was that we were sitting closed to the back door that goes to the patio, and people kept going in and out from that door. There were often time that the door was stuck and it got cold in the room. However, I will still come back for more breakfast, and would just request to sit else where. read more

I love diners, run down Americana, and old institutional restaurants that have stood the test of time, surviving despite changing tastes and styles. All this is to say that I was primed to enjoy the Breadboard. Great setting and views; in addition, the staff were friendly and pleasant. I ordered their omelette Olé, which was fine. But their home fries were flavorless, and one of the keys to a good diner is having your potatoes dialed in. Nope. I ended up at a counter, because they were busy, and the table service was sticky. Eww. Not uncleaned, but an old surface that has absorbed years of dirt and grease so that no rag will correct it. A bathroom wall was also sticky. Time to close down for a few days, get a crew in there to sand some surfaces down and restain or paint things. If they did that and paid more attention to their nondescript potatoes, they would earn five stars from me. But when the counter you serve customers at is sticky and uncared for, what must the kitchen be like? read more

We've passed by this eatery dozens of times and we decided to satisfy our curiosity after reading favorable comments in Next Door and noticing the filled parking lot. The hostess was very welcoming and the rest of the staff was friendly. They were also a bit overwhelmed. My friend ordered a latte, which she really enjoyed. My decaf was nowhere in sight, and I finally reminded our waiter that I hadn't received it, so that got addressed. The problem was the food. The restaurant menu features quite a number of attractive options. My friend decided that she didn't want a whole meal, so she ordered the ham stake with a side of tomatoes. I decided on the Magic Mushroom omelette. We also ordered a blueberry muffin to share while waiting for our order to be prepared.. That muffin was the highlight of an otherwise thoroughly mediocre meal. When I ordered my omelette I requested that it made with egg whites, unsalted, be well done and the home fries extra crisp. Our waiter informed me that the kitchen did not offer crisp home fries on weekends because they were too busy and it took too long. Since my only option was soft greasy home fries I skipped them and substituted fruit at an additional charge. When the food arrived, we were a bit surprised by the portions. The ham steak was the thinnest ham steak I've ever seen served in a restaurant. Her side order of tomatoes consisted of four razor thin slices. She picked up one of the slices on her fork and turned it around to marvel at its svelteness. When she saw my plate and looked at the omelette she said, "Where's the rest of it?" This was a dwarf omelette, the smallest omelette I've ever been served. It was stuffed with mushrooms that had no discernible taste. About the only flavor it had was of burned cooking oil. Our waiter was kind enough to offer my companion a refill of regular coffee, which she happily accepted. My second cup of decaf tasted burnt. We paid our bill, which seemed high for what we got served, and headed out to take care of errands. We won't be back. read more

Gotta be honest, this was just OK. The Breadboard omelette was decent but maybe a bit overstuffed with fillings, and the rye toast accompanying was a bit stale. Otherwise, it was fine. My wife's breakfast burrito was good, but was missing the sausage we ordered with it. Vegetable side dish was good, as were my daughter's kiddie pancakes.. Nice outdoor environment on a warm late morning. Service was friendly but slightly haphazard - I had to remind them to remove the missing sausage from the bill. We stop by this place maybe 5x a year driving back and forth to/from CA and OR. We like this place and food. The service was so bad - no ownership for the poor service. We stop in for a quick lunch today. We travel with a dog so we were the only people on the patio in 94 degrees (feels like 102) weather. I checked in at the counter before we went out to sit on the patio. A server came out to take our drink order and when I told her we were ready to order, she replied she will get our server out. We got our drinks and we were forgotten. We are one for understanding that we were the only ones outside that I went in to place an order. Some of the servers said, oh you are outside? The drink server says I told them. Then the person that was suppose to be waiting on us said, "oh, that was on me, my bad, I'm sorry, I'll be out there to take your order. " I was pissed by how no one jumped at the opportunity to make good on the poor service. I told the server, I rather place the order than to delay our order more. She took our sandwich order, and I reminder her to add our soft drinks and gave them a tip because tips are shared by all. No, thank you for reminding them to charge me, no offer to fix anything. The Server brought out our food and didn't apologize, didn't offer to refill our drinks, nor didn't check in with us after that. My husband had to go in to ask for more water and more of our soft drinks. I'm hoping someone will read this and make adjustments soon. The cozy space was right off of the main drive and easy to locate and park. Their decor was whimsical as well. Our meals came out quicker than expected and were delicious. My Ashland scramble was savory with plenty of veggies. I would have liked the jam to be seedless, but the sourdough bread was great with just butter. I had a great California omelette in late November 2024 and a disappointing Breadboard omelette in mid December 2024. Was the chef different? On the positive side, the service was great. Host amazing. And the muffins INCREDIBLE. Worth the extra $2.50(?) for a muffin/scone instead of toast. Not sure I will rush back. The staff was great. The place so so and the food was so so. My 6yr old did love his waffles with Strawberries. I ordered the Greek Omelette. It was good but could be better. With that said the omelette was flat and not very tasty. Just a lack of flavor and fluff. It was a limp omelette. The staff was great though and didn't take long to get the food. No child menu but that was ok because my son eats like an adult man. My only advice would be to whisk the eggs to make the omelette fluffy and overall yummy, also maybe add a little seasoning to the spinach. read more
