Real Taste Garden is such an interesting name for a restaurant. I likely wouldn't have even tried it if I didn't manually search up restaurants in the area. During a long road trip, I chose to stop in New Lisbon because... well... who knows? I just did. Real Taste Garden was within walking distance to my hotel, so I chose to dine there. Despite being a Chinese person who grew up spoiled on some of the best authentic Chinese dishes anywhere, both in Beijing, and in New Beijing (Duluth, GA), I also really like takeout Americanized Chinese food. Yes, it's junk food. Yes, the caloric and macronutrient content are somewhat deplorable. Maybe I eat garbage because I am garbage, okay? *ehem* anyways, I went and ordered General Tso's Chicken. As an added surprise, Real Taste Garden allows you to choose from an eggroll or two crab rangoons with your combo dishes. The portions were absolutely massive. The flavors were all there. This is quintessential Americanized Chinese takeout. My back is big. My stomach was full. I was incredibly happy. Service? Ambiance? Honestly, you're barking up the wrong tree if you want either of those. The absolute best Chinese takeout places have grumpy unfriendly people working, a kid doing homework at a table, no air conditioning, and the faint smell of sewage. Fortunately, we're not in NYC, so that last thing doesn't apply. I also don't think I saw a kid doing homework, but that's probably because it's the summer. I've had bad Chinese takeout. Those places exist. Most Chinese takeout places are pretty good. Trust me when I say that Real Taste Garden is better than it has any right being. I had discovered this place in last August,the service and food were excellent.Last two times,met a woman cashier,harsh demeanor.I tried 2 meals this time,told her NO onions on both orders.Both orders had onions in the rice.I called her about error.She tried to double talk me;stating I did;nt mention NO onions in rice and hung up.I gave them a second chance ne.xt day;same woman,same demeanor.This time the beef in order was HORRIBLE!! Tasted like pork,I returned to the resaurant she insisted it was beef,I threw the order away and told her HORRIBLE.I have been to 30 or more Chinese resaurants,none had beef that color or taste..She did;nt apologize or offer an refund or substitute meal."Wasted my money,I told here" She snapped"Thank you." and returned to kitchen without backward glance. The men were courteous but I doubt the woman deals with many Black customers.I will NOT return. read more

The food is great here! They are open every Monday, which many places are closed and they are closed on Tuesday. They were closed for a few weeks on Vacation, probably to go home which I can imagine is a very long flight. So I look forward to them getting back. It's super hard to find good Asian takeout around here. You have to drive a ways out of your way but here it's reasonably priced, good serving size, friendly service and fast. The seating area is a bit bare but I've never had a problem finding someplace to sit. read more

If you're looking for the best Chinese food in all of Wisconsin, this is DEFINITELY the place to go. I have had almost everything on the menu over the last couple years and it is all amazing. Honestly, it was surprisingly good for (practically) gas station Chinese. We split a Shrimp & Broccoli Combo and it was more than enough for 2 people to share. It came with the Shrimp & Broccoli, Pork Fried Rice and Egg Rolls. They weren't spectacular, but I can't complain about any of it, especially since it was cheap. Don't expect to be served, but there is limited seating. This strikes me as more of a grab-n-go option. The only real downside to this place is that it's cash or check only. read more

Unsuspecting looking place tucked into a McDonalds truck stop off of the interstate. Don't let that fool you. I'm from the south east and our Chinese food is always flavorful! After living in Colorado for 11 years with some of the most bland Chinese I've ever had, finding this gem was absolute heaven. Service was fast and friendly. The restaurant is a bit narrow and long, but nice tables. Even met a really nice truck driver and we sat and talked while we waited for our food. He was wearing a Denver Bronco hat and I asked about it. Turns out I was sitting and talking to David Bruton Jr's dad! Never know who you'll run into in these places. Food was delicious, definitely my new go to spot as it's not to far from the house. General Tsao's chicken had a great flavor and heat to it. The orange chicken has a slight kick, but also that perfect sweet and sticky sauce. Fried rice was delicious and the lo mein noodles hit the spot. And those crab rangoon's, MMMM! Out of places to randomly stop for food on our way to Minnesota, this has been the best experience by far. The menu is extensive with their dishes, and ALL are great prices. They don't skimp on the sauces for things like beef and chicken. I've been sick so I purchased a large wonton soup for under $4! That's a steal. And I see the business is run by a family, which is always a great thing to support. This place is attached to a gas station and a McDonald's. This is the better buy. Ps. Seems like a hidden gem. I decided to eat here instead of the McDonald's, and I wasn't disappointed. I got the Chicken Cashew, and I think it just might be the best Chinese food I've ever had. The tables were filthy as well as the rest of the restaurant. Second of all the food was terrible. The meat dishes had mostly vegetables and very little meat. Zero stars. Chicken used in the dishes is heavily "faked", essentially no protein. 80% fluffed up batter and 20% meat inside.. And that is a generous estimate. New rule for me.. When the chef is wearing dirty yoga pants and a sloppy shirt the place prob isn't good. Another great tip.. Look at the condiment packets places offer.. If they have the cheapest and worst packets of spicy mustard (eg. the brand diluted with starch and water) the management obviously will also offer trash level food. read more

Randomly saw this Chinese restaurant while stopping for gas. It's at a Shell gas station next to a McDonalds. Great food, good prices and pretty clean! Terrific find. we've driven through this area many times on road trips and yesterday saw person at BP a mile away eating good looking Chinese food. She directed us here and we will now stop each time we pass! We are from great Chinese restaurant areas and this little place competes! Had huge Szechuan chicken, nice variety of vegetables, tender plentiful chicken, well made. Tasty yellow rice, wanted brown,but it was very good. Dumplings also good. First time we tried it the mongolian beef had like 6 tiny bits of beef in it.Tried again a year later to see if they improved..this time chicken lo mein.Couldnt find chicken at first.Upon further inspection there was tiny bits of chicken.Think campbells chicken noodle bits.We should have known,because they ran out of something,appologized for the wait, but then still gave us the meal minus the chicken....at full price.They just dont give you any meat.Typical scam by interstate locations knowing youll be down the road before you notice. When my order came out I realized dar da dinner special comes wid fried rice... n so it was my fault dat I didnt pay attention cuz it clearly states dat it comes wid rice n an eggroll. Da chicken was good. Rice was good. Chicken stick was ok, wouldnt order it again. Since it was a lot of food 4 1person, I took half of da general chicken n placed it on da othr house fried rice plate n gave da rest 2 2customers who were in da process of orderin since i didnt wanna waste it.
