Order at the table on their tablet- it would be nice for each person to have a menu to view while the other is ordering. Super excited to see mango and sticky rice on the menu-however, while it wasn't bad, the sticky rice was very over cooked and the grains were like a potato consistency. The sauce was also cold and looked like it was separating perhaps due to the temperature. I have really enjoyed this place in the past. I grew up eating a lot of Thai food, and their flavor is exceptional. I also love that it appears to be individually owned, and I prefer to support small businesses. The downside for me is the portion size. I feel like their portions are getting smaller. I'm not a "big" eater, and almost always have leftovers from what I order. I've found their orders are a lot smaller than most places. I ordered the red curry today, and it was barely a portion size for an average eater. My protein choice was shrimp, and there were literally 3 small shrimp in the dish. Again, the taste is very good, but if you're an average eater, just know the portion sizes are small, and you may want to order an additional side. read more

First time trying Real Thai, never had it with the previous owners when it was K'Nyaw Thai. The time from ordering to getting my order was about 32 minutes waiting. One lady & her son were dining in the restaurant so everything is made fresh to order. 2 stand outs for me were the chicken wings and the sweet mango rice. My curry was a little too liquidy/watery, I wish it had a thicker/creamy texture to enjoy with the white rice I originally had crab fried rice on my list but my husband wanted to try the Tom Yum Fried rice, I think the flavor was overpowered by lemon grass... so maybe next time I'll be able to try the crab. My husband picked the real Thai red pork dish, and we were disappointed with the amount or portion given, it was a lot of rice underneath with little bits of meat. The pad Thai I ordered was chicken with shrimp added on for $3.00 which I got 3 pieces, :( $1.00 per shrimp is crazy but ok, I also asked for extra lime and bean sprouts but got one wedge of lime and little bean sprouts so maybe they forgot to didn't see that. Chicken wings had a good flavor. I would definitely order them again!! Sweet mango rice was delicious!! I would also order this again! We tried three dishes and the food is pretty good here. It's decor is quite plain, and there was no music playing. But it's clean and comfortable. The server was nice, but you enter your own order into a tablet at your table, which is fine if you're into that. There are plenty of options on the menu, including all our favorite Thai dishes. And they brought our food to us in a timely manner. I like their pad kee mau (drunken noodles) especially! And their Thai green tea is definitely something I would order again. The green curry was good, but they added red chilies to it and it's a green curry. That's an odd choice. I mean, they do give you a choice of how hot you want each dish and on this one we choose "very hot," so I get them adding additional chilis, but I expected green jalapeño or similar for this dish. Still, it was tastey, and seemed more home made many other Thai restaurants serve. We'll order from here again, but maybe we'll order to go. This place is absolutely terrible. First of all, they never answer their phones and tell you that they won't answer their phones because they don't have time. So I drove down to them to place my order and wait for it to be prepared. It's dirty and old. And the food is subpar at Best. We have such better Thai in Austin just order it and get it delivered. The beef and shrimp and pork in all three of our dishes was dried and flavorless. The shrimp spring rolls fell apart immediately, and had to be eaten with a fork. The fried rice has absolutely no flavor and you could just make it at home. And the Tom Yum soup was not a good flavor or indicative of true Thai cuisine. They refused to let me in with my service animal, even though Texas law clearly protects the right for people with disabilities to have their trained service dogs with them in restaurants. When I tried to explain the law and show them proof (including the state statute), they wouldn't even take the time to read it or understand. Service animals are not pets. They're trained to assist people with disabilities, and denying access is against the law. It was humiliating to be turned away like that. I hope they will educate themselves on Texas Health and Safety Code Sec. 437.023 and the ADA requirements so that others don't have to go through this. My adult son and I have been to Real Thai Restaurant two times in the past two weeks! We'd previously patronized Thai Knyaw Restaurant in same location. It had good Thai food, but their service was lacking, so we stopped coming. However, when we saw the new name, Real Thai Restaurant, we decided to try the new game in town and were so glad we did! My son ordered Pad Kra Pow w/ Jasmine Rice entree and the Spring Rolls appetizer. He loved both Thai dishes! I ordered the Pad Cashew with Chicken & Jasmine Rice entree & the refreshing Thai Iced Tea, and both were soo tasty. Before we left, I decided to add a take home order of Panang Curry with Chicken and Jasmine Rice, my favorite Thai curry. On our second visit to Real Thai Restaurant, my son ordered his favorite Pak Kra Pow w/ Jasmine Rice, and a take home order of Pad Thai Kra-Tiam. I ordered the delicious Pad Cashew w/ Jasmine with Thai Iced Tea again, plus a take home order of Real Thai Tom Yum Soup which lasted me a couple of days for lunch. We will be returning this weekend again, for the 3rd time, to sample even more of Real Thai Restaurant's real Thai cuisine. We like being able to order from the Ipad at the table because all the information about the dishes, ingredients, etc. is in the description under colorful photographs of the food, so we don't have to take the time of the waitress lady to answer our questions about each dish. It's easy to add another drink, dessert, or take out without trying to get the waitress lady's attention if she's taking food to other tables. Also, since we've been coming to this location for several years, we are accustomed to and enjoy its simple, but very clean decor. We enjoy eating our meal in a peaceful atmosphere with only soft background music playing that doesn't interfere with our conversation. I have been here twice and both take out. I had the Thai Kra-Pow with chicken. I don't think the amount of chicken I got justifies the $16 price. My container is not that big and 2/3 was jasmine rice. The chicken is very flavorful, but I did not get much of it so I will not order this dish again. The second time I ordered the Pad Thai Noodle and Basil fried rice both with chicken. I choose the spice level "HOT". I can tolerate spicy food very well and their "Hot" are spicy for me. I don't think I can take it if they are hotter than that. I really enjoy both dishes. They are very tasty. The prices for the potion are very reasonable. They were not busy both times I have been there, my food came out quickly and they were piping hot. It was kind of confusing for the first time for me. No one greeted me when I walked in and there was a lady at the counter, but she was on the phone. She walked away from me. I finally figured out how to place my order at the Big Screen Kiosk at the front entrance. Bastrop lacks authentic Asian food restaurants. The food here was very tasty. The service was also very good. It's just usually a couple working. But they do a great job. It's not fast food and it does take a little while to get your food. We stumbled upon this unassuming restaurant in a strip mall on the way east from Austin and it's a great find! We ate two dishes: a veggie curry and a flat rice noodle dish, both vegan with tofu. They were delicious! We asked for medium heat and it was not wimpy, not killer hot, just right. Everything was super flavorful and fresh. The server was really sweet and helpful In guiding our choices. The environment leaves a bit to be desired--not what you would call good ambiance or fine decor, it's bare boned--but when the food's this good it doesn't matter. It felt more authentic than other Thai places given the layers of flavors. It's easy to miss as there's currently construction in the parking lot, but your efforts to find it will be rewarded. read more

We went to Real Thai as we were traveling through Bastrop en route to Austin. We'd been at the Buccees down the street and needed to eat lunch. I read the reviews on Yelp and realized it was literally just down the street. The restaurant is in a non-descript strip center next to a Mexican restaurant. The place is simple and clean. You order from an iPad at the table. The food was excellent. We played it safe with Pad Thai with broccoli, pork egg rolls and Basil Fried Rice. The sauce on the Pad Thai was perfect, the egg rolls were crunchy and fresh on the inside, and the Basil Fried Rice was both filling and refreshing. We will definitely be coming back as we go back and forth to Austin. Oh, and the server was polite and the service was fast. read more

I have had 3 main entrees there so far, and their spring rolls, and all are lovely !
