I'm a Los Angeles native, and had long voluminous hair with balayage that I curled every single morning for YEARS. I came to Rebecca to get the shortest haircut of my life (short enough to dust my shoulders) and it was really the best haircut of my life. She spent a total of 1.5 hours (2 hours if you include the consultation and hair washing), and she was so meticulous, patient, and thorough. I have a lot of hair. And yet I hate that razor cut layered look or haircut with multiple levels. But somehow she gave me a cut where you can't see any layers, but my ponytail is half the size. Undercut layering girls! Rebecca is simply thee best!! So last minute during my last haircut, I thought I wanted emo hair lol and she worked with me to give me the best hair I ever had. It looked so freaking cool. Unfortunately i realized later that the emo hair didn't look good with my natural wavy hair. I still thought it looked sick when it was styled so I was gonna stick with it, but mentioned it to her that next time I might want it differently bc of the way it sits when it's not styled. I've been highlighting and dying my hair ever since I was 19, so I've been through my fair share of colorists as I've moved around. I found New York to be particularly tricky to find someone that I trust with my naturally VERY dark (basically pitch black), long, thick, dry Asian hair. I've gone to several well-known balayage salons around town (Soon Beauty Lab, Whistle, Bianchi) with generally good experiences, but I've always left feeling dissatisfied with something, whether it's an obviously too-blonde strand that seemed like a mistake or the feeling that the colorist didn't understand my hair and just tried to do what they do for everyone else (who likely have naturally lighter hair) on me (and then commenting that my hair wasn't behaving the way they expected, which is always alarming to hear when you're in the chair). So for the amount of $$ and time that a balayage takes, I've always moved on in search of my Cheri (my beloved colorist that I would fly back home to go to for YEARS)--and now I've found her, and her name is Rebecca! I scheduled a full head balayage. Rebecca was professional and communicative at all times, texting me to ask if we could push the appointment by 15 minutes and also letting me know that another client would be coming in for a bang trim during my time, so she would have to leave me for a few minutes. Rebecca noticed that my hair had many different colors in it (from years of coloring my hair all different shades), and then spent HOURS carefully foiling my hair to make sure she picked up the correct pieces. I have never seen a stylist that is more meticulous. My entire appointment took 5.5 hours, and Rebecca even offered me a snack during that time. And because of how meticulous she was during, it was the first time in a long time that I looked at my hair afterwards and didn't see even one strand that seemed off-color or like it didn't take to the dye(s) correctly! I was extremely impressed. It was only after those 5.5 hours when I was paying that Rebecca informed me that what I actually had was a color correction, which is usually per hour, but because she jumped right into it and didn't tell me beforehand, she charged me the normal balayage amount, which was incredibly sweet. The studio was also cute and clean, and wasn't super hectic-feeling like some other studios can be, where it seems like all the stylists are elbow to elbow and jostling to churn out balayage like a factory. I also liked that Rebecca didn't try to chat my ear off or become my therapist, and I could do work emails and read while she worked, and she let her fantastic work and results speak for themselves. I've found my go-to stylist in New York now, and I only regret that I didn't find Rebecca sooner when I first moved here! TLDR; Rebecca is a color magician and gave me the first balayage in New York where I wasn't bothered by something. She is also the sweetest. Highly recommended; you won't regret it! read more

UPDATE: You know how nicely cut hair keep the shape even when they grow out. I have been suffering with this cut for many months now - I can't reshape it, because of the length and how it was cut. So hello ponytail- all the time!! Rebecca has no idea how to cut wavy unruly hair, without straightening them to death. It took some time for me to figure out how to put it in words so it is understandable. For Friends fans: Rebecca is a person who can probably perfectly copy the Rachel haircut, but cannot invent it. I came with a photo of a haircut that I wanted, but asked if it could be adopted to my hair and modified a bit. I might be delusional, but I was under an impression that's what STYLISTS do. I have puffy a bit wavy hair and the picture showed the cut on a straight hair. Which I thought wouldn't be a problem, just some modification would be needed which I let Rebecca know. Instead she did exactly what was in the picture and straighten out my hair to death. Seriously, I was caught in the rain and they didn't become wavy. And I never said I wanted straight hair! I have no time or desire to spend hours styling my hair. So instead of sort of unruly edgy cut I ended up with very buttoned up straight hair look which is sooo not me. I didn't cry, hair will grow back, but I will not be coming back.
