This restaurant is actually inside Krog St. market, so the only seating is at their bar. If you need more space then you can lay claim to one of the picnic tables into the market that are available to patrons of any of the eateries. Next time I will probably skip the added chicken because it was just a little pricey as an add on ($14 for a salad...), not the best texture, and go full veg. This was my first visit and it was pretty ok. The staff was super friendly and mostly attentive. I thought it was novel of them to have a card for when you need service. You do have to pay for parking ($5 for 2hrs). They will put a boot on your car! I loved the Spanish themed and rustic decor. The server attendant placed a card on the table to signify when we needed more water or other items. My friend and I had the Tom Cruz bowl for $9.50. It came with coconut brown rice, black beans, shredded cabbage, kale, pickled onions, Impossible chorizo crumbles, corn, and chipotle cashew crema. The crema was wonderful! Although it wasn't super busy inside, it took 30 to 35 mins to get our food. The food was lukewarm. I did take a few bites and it was still really good. I asked could they warm it up and they graciously made me a new bowl. The onions needed to be pickled more and I wish they added more vegetables. I tasted more of the coconut in the rice with the first bowl than the second bowl, but still very flavorful. This says something coming from someone who rarely eats rice. Recess has options for make your own grain bowls as well as suggested combinations. Recess serves a veg heavy menu inside Krog Street Market. The mains are divided into salads, grain bowls, and sandwiches. I had the HB&J (ham, Brie, and fig jam) sandwich and the potato salad. I though the sandwich was great. The potato salad was a little dry for my preference, but it was tasty. My friends ordered the My Farro Lady bowl and the Mexi salad. The salad was fine, but the grain bowls and sandwiches are a little heartier and more complex. We all left feeling like the portions were the right size. They also beer and alcoholic slushees. The food stall has cute decor all around. Since it's in Krog Street Market, seating depends on when you're there. There were always 2-3 open seats at their bar around 7pm on a Saturday, but I feel like every stall in KSM comes with the caveat that the food hall can get crowded and seating is limited. I neglected this place for far too long because there are so many delicious options in Krog... Why would I go to the healthy food spot?! None of the menu items struck a chord with me! I thought meh, I could make this at home. But when I tried it I was truly pleasantly surprised! Their bowls and salads are more than the sum of their parts... the sauces and toppings are delicious!! We shared the super bowl (add chicken and avocado) and the kale caesar salad. Both were totally awesome, flavorful, and filling. If you want something at krog that is relatively nutritious, check out Recess! I hear they have Frosé too which is definitely a plus. It's so nice to have a healthy option at Krog! The menu has a unique spin on "healthy" and it's not just your average salad or bowl place. The atmosphere is colorful and bright with limited seating and bar seating. They have a bar drink menu for those dining in. We got carry out...I ordered the mex-so-cali salad which was spicy and citrusy. I liked it! My husband ordered the the super bowl with lamb and he said it was great! I also got the hibiscus lemonade which was the perfect blend of tangy and sweet! I asked where they got them and they pointed to Recess. I had walked past it several times and didn't notice what they served. I ordered a delicious bowl (see my photo!) filled with sweet potato, quinoa, beets, kale, chic peas and all kinds of other good stuff; it was perfect for us vegetarians. It was positively delicious and priced very well - and was a hefty portion. The food was good however the wait seemed crazy. We came early on a Saturday and there were not many people at the bar and few in line. However I still waited about 20 min for my avocado toast and zucchini noodles. The zuc noodles were already prepared and the avo toast shouldn't take that long so not sure why the extreme wait. Hopefully this was just an off day. The toast was a decent size and they have gluten free bread available. The watermelon radish was a nice touch however the bottom of the bread was a little burnt. I found out about this restaurant because I'm a regular at Iberian Pig. It's in the CHG restaurant group so I expected nothing but greatness. Located inside of Krog Street Market. Small parking lot. There's another lot across the street but I think there's a fee. Most people walk if they're close or along the Beltline. My friend and I went but she didn't order any food -- why? Because the menu was too healthy! We has to get the Kombucha Margaritas. We are huge kombucha fans and never even thought of combining the 2! I finally made it to Recess for lunch and it didn't disappoint. I enjoyed the cornucopia bowl with chicken. It was a nice combination of flavors that reminded me of Thanksgiving (in a good way). The chicken was well seasoned and the whole meal was great. I appreciate Recess offering healthy options especially considering there are many tempting indulgences inside of Krog Street Market. Recess is one of the better, more creative spots in Krog Street Market, and is the cousin of my personal Krog favorite, Bar Mercado. It features California-inspired farm to table food in a casual bar-top atmosphere. You can also order to go. I have previously visited for their inventive drink menu, which features frosé (a guilty pleasure) and a killer kombucha margarita. This time I visited for a quick weekday lunch, and tried the harvest moon salad, which is a kale salad, with an assortment of pickled and fresh garnishes on top. The flavor-profile wasn't particularly my cup of tea (it was sweet, fruity, and slightly sour, if not a little plain), but I appreciated the freshness and creativity I got for the same price as lunch at a fast-casual chain. We went to Recess over Labor Day Weekend (props to these people--and Krog Street Market!--for being open on a holiday) and it did not disappoint. Finding seating wasn't difficult, we sat right at the bar and had table-ish service. Our waitress was super nice and helpful and made great recommendations for us. Let me start by saying I adore CHG restaurants. Iberian Pig is my absolute favorite spot in metro Atlanta. I love Cooks & Soldiers. But Recess just isn't good. We've tried several times, really tried and we just can't eat here. We are regulars at Upbeet but get sick of driving to the Westside. This should be a viable alternative. All of the parts are there, but the execution is the issue. Decor, check. Service, check. Menu variety, check. Food and drinks, the core, are where it fails. The bowls are almost tasteless, the sandwiches are dry and too bready, and the Tumeric Tonic and Date Shake are both very off on taste and consistency. This isn't a one-off bad experience or hit piece. I rarely take the time to write Yelp reviews. But after multiple wasted lunches and dinners spent skipping other great spots in the market to give this a go, I'm hoping CHG hears this. There's a reason they only have 25 reviews this far into being open at one of the hottest locations in Atlanta: Southern people are taught that if you don't have anything nice to say, say nothing. People are meh over this place and aren't coming back, at least in our world. There's nothing bad enough to warrant taking the time to criticize. Notice most reviews, they're praising the decor and bar and vegan items (where the bar is VERY low in Atlanta). This isn't as good as the worst By Chloe location. It's just not. And it could be fixed. CHG knows flavor. They know creativity. They know risk. Recess is bland, slow, and way overpriced for the outcome. I'm hoping they make big changes. We dined here on day two of their opening at Krog Market and they were running like a well oiled machine. The space is bright and vibrant and they offer "to go" as well as a "dine in" option at their counter. The menu consists of several sandwich options, grain bowls, salads, and some fun looking drink options such as a turmeric tonic and a date shake. They also have beer and wine on the menu if you don't want to stand in another line at Hop City. We opted for the Bob Barley and the My Farro Lady grain bowls. Both were absolutely delicious. Seriously. Delicious. Everything was perfectly seasoned and the flavor combos were unique and inspiring. The Mexican corn salad tasted of pure chargrill as the corn was over cooked and I found 3 bones or other hardened material in the salad.
