Visited this spot last night. Overall experience was okay. I thought the lighting was way too dark upon coming in. Started off with a cappuccino that tasted more like a regular cup of black coffee instead of that nice foamy milk texture throughout. The staff was very friendly and attentive which was nice. We ordered the Branzino which was pretty good. The fish had a good taste and texture and was a good portion. For dessert, we had the creme brûlée which looked appealing from the outside. I've been going to Recette on and off for years. Yesterday evening I went for a couple glasses of wine and appetizers with a friend. The food, drinks, and ambiance were nice. Unfortunately our server made us feel uncomfortable and most likely neither of us will go back there again. While we were finishing our last glass of wine the waitress came over and asked us if we needed anything else, we replied no. She then proceeded to stand in front of us waiting, listening to our conversation while holding her card machine. It was awkward, so we said we could pay for the bill and she immediately shows us the card machine with the total. It felt like we were being rushed out of the restaurant even though we were still drinking our last glass of wine and the place was pretty empty. It's too bad we might have ordered more if we didn't feel rushed out of the place. read more

First of all, this place was completely packed, thats how we knew it was going to be really good. We made reservations and got seated almost immediately in the back by the kitchen. Our waiter was extremely friendly and attentive. We started off with the octopus, French onion soup, and the escargot and of course our drinks, I had the Brooklyn desire which was delicious, sweet, but not too much. My gfs had shared a wine bottle. The octopus was great, however, I didn't like how they cut up the tentacles in small pieces, making it a little chewy, flavor was there, but they should keep that octopus whole, keeping it tender. The escargot was good, not chewy at all, buttery. I didn't try the French onion soup but my friend really liked it. For our entrees we had the wild mushroom truffle, that was absolutely divine! Creamy, truffle, goodness. My favorite thing on the menu. Beef bourginon was tender, and oh so flavorful, that meat was so super soft. The mashed potatoes it came with, was extra creamy and absolutely delicious, I liked that they had the mashed on the side so you can be in control of how much sauce was going in there. Steak frites was good, not the best, but nonetheless yummy. The French fries were super crispy and we loved it so much. For dessert, we received panacotta on the house. I've never had panacotta, but this was pretty damn good. The berries were fresh, and the panacotta so jiggly. *chefs kiss* Would definitely be back to try more on the menu. read more

The ambience of the place is nice, but both mains we got were overcooked - the chicken was dry, and the medium rare steak didn't have a hint of red in it (though the fries were delicious). The Brussels sprouts had too much sauce that was too creamy and vinegary. The pizza/flatbread-y app was good though. this place is so cute and i always walk past so decided to make a last minute res and its 10/10. first of all the staff is so nice and friendly. they explain everything to you and generally just make you want to be there. the food was amazing. short rib cavatelli stole the show- really a must try. great flavors and textures. the branzino was also really good we finished it all! we finished w panacotta which had a great creamy texture and wasnt too sweet. also will say for the quality and experience, pretty affordable. read more

I love Recette -- it's a classic Paris neighborhood bistro/bar airlifted to Williamsburg. The food is very good, and the light-filled room is warm and cozy. Wonderful frites, Croque Monsieur and more -- the vanilla mousse dessert is truly special. Also, the waitstaff I've encountered on my three visits have been both warm and accommodating. I came here with my gfs we wanted to try the restaurant week however the regular menu was more enticing. The table shared french onion soup, grilled octopus, escargot. The main entrees we're the beef bourguignon, steak frites and mixed mushroom truffle gnocchi and for dessert we had the pancotta. Everything was delicious. They did not miss a beat on the flavors on the food. The dessert was perfect for a lightness and the cappuccinos we're perfect for a quick me up to keep the night going. New French restaurant in Williamsburg, filling in the void in the neighborhood for French cuisine. I am typically not a massive fan of French food but after Recette I might become one. The food is super flavorful, their steak frites is super juicy and flavorful and the fries extra crispy but not dry. Mushroom gnocchi are phenomenal too. Best of all is the service though. Our airbnb was in the building right above Recette and we ended up going there 3 times during our trip. The french onion soup is something I'll be thinking about for a long time and the steak frites was phenomenal. We also enjoyed the lava cake for dessert. The staff was really nice, the ambiance is cute with all their plants, and the food felt high quality. It's not cheap, but it's worth the splurge every once in a while. read more

What really threw me off was their "brunch menu" which essentially picked up items from their regular lunch menu and added $3-$5 per item. So strange and so quintessentially Williamsburg. Fundamentally they are marking up a regular menu for a weekend. I wouldn't spend money here when there are several much more impressive dine-in options around. read more
