It is one of those places that can easily be a one and done. There is discounted weekday price starting at $19 for kids 3-12. Something tells me the $19 is if you buy it in advance. Meaning, not the day of. I paid $25 for the kids and $29 for myself online. The photo opps are what you make of it. Like for instance I've been to places where you press a button and the confetti drops down. For this, you have to actually throw the confetti up yourself. Good luck trying to figure this out with kids if you're looking for a good photo. They were also a bit underwhelmed with it. They loved the music room, the light bright room, and the balloon room. The goodies. It was cute. I'm trying bit to give the whole experience away if you are interested in going. It is best to pay for the ice cream online as it is a bit cheaper but not by much. Those cones were cute and delicious. I purchased the photo package. It really isn't necessary as you get to download the photos from a QR code you use when snapping the pics. There is a small parking lot near to it. If you wait for the group before you to leave then you can get a spot without an issue.

My family had the privilege coming down to Texas to attend my nephew's graduation in May as the Class of 2026. It gets hot in Houston in Spring, with rains and thunderstorms being common. Thus our families were prepared, as we took the walk from the Hanszen dining hall (where a celebratory reception was held for Hanszen college graduates and their families) to the stadium. Security was the typical expected, including only clear backpacks and sealed water being allowed in. We were let in by 5 pm, and we got front row seats in Section 111, right in front of where we believed Hanszen would sit. The sun was out, but we prepared with sunscreen, hats, and umbrellas...most important to get the best view. Others found seating much further back, under the large canopies that provided shade. Unfortunately, as lightning was reported close by, we were to take shelter much above. As expected it was crowded inside, but my brother provided everyone with ice cream at the nearby stand. As is normal for unplanned events, communication from the organizers during the wait was poor, and provided much fodder for discussion amongst the crowd. After the 1+ hour delay, the ceremony began with the students taking the long walk to the stadium, passing through the Sallyport Arch, symbolizing their departure. Our seating was very close to the graduates passing close by. Unfortunately, Hanszen graduates walked by the other side of the stadium so missed that opportunity...there was really no way to know beforehand. A decision was made to greatly shorten the program by only keeping two things: the commencement speech by the noted author, John Green and the announcing of each graduate's name individually, per tradition. This took us past 11 pm. Folks were allowed to congregate in the field for pictures, which we took part. It was a memory maker for sure, and made me think a lot of family that couldn't make it. Some history of the stadium: Rice was a charter member of the Southwest Conference when it was formed in 1912, along with other Texas schools like UT-Austin, Baylor, and Texas A&M. The conference dissolved in 1996, with Rice joining the WAC. They are currently in the AAC. Perhaps the stadium is most famous for being the site of JFK's famous Moon speech in 1962, using the Rice football team playing its much bigger rival UT-Austin, as a symbol of facing challenges even though it may be very difficult. It also hosted Super Bowl VIII, when the Dolphins defeated the Vikings 24-7 in 1974. It was one of the few times when a Super Bowl was played in a non-NFL stadium. It currently seats 47,000 spectators. "Gateway Project" is a 120 million effort to upgrade campus facilities, including renovations of the historic stadium. It is scheduled to start after the 2026 football season, completing by 2028. The project will include the creation of a new modern practice facility. It is expected that the stadium will still be usable during its renovation. Would be interested in how different (and the same) the Spring 2027 graduation ceremonies will be.

We attended the graduation of the 112th class of Rice University at Rice Stadium... the place where President John F. Kennedy gave his famous "We choose to go to the Moon" speech in 1962. Also, in 1974, Super Bowl VIII was here! Gates opened at 5pm for the 7pm open-air ceremony. We had parked early - around 1pm at Lot 4. We walked around the campus, then returned to the stadium in time to secure the best seats, at the back of Section 111... closest to the Hanszen College students, seated below. The process flowed smoothly. Our QR codes were scanned at the entrance - our tickets had been sent via email by the graduates. We were handed programs with maps by helpful students who answered our questions. The concession stands were open from 5pm to 9pm. Much appreciated gigantic water dispensers (and paper cone-shaped cups) were situated near the clean restrooms. Seating for wheelchairs and their companions were convenient. The only disadvantage of Section 111 was facing the sun (and no handrails for the stairs). We used our programs as sunshades until sunset around 8pm. The advantage was - we could see a beautiful sunset! My sister brought stadium cushions since we sat for more than 5 hours in the bleachers. The audio and video from the Jumbotron was satisfactory. Thanks to the staff for the secure, clean environment! Thank you to the faculty for inspiring the future leaders of our world!

We were not happy. The ticket agent at the front notified the manager who came to talk to us, get some clarification on what had happened and see what he could do to remedy the situation. He (regretfully we did not get his name) went above and beyond to make us happy. He had seats and a table moved into an available space, provided ticket passes and numerous other compensation for the missed step in ticket rescheduling. We had a wonderful experience watching the movie in comfort with good food and spot on service. We will definitely be returning. Any establishment that provides such high quality service deserves much support!

Tickets were on the pricier end especially since it was a Thursday night, but not a big deal. The workers were friendly, and the seats were EXTREMELY comfortable & cushy... I still think about them to this day... I also thought it was nice how movie viewers could order food and the workers would come serve it on a platter! I'm not too familiar with any deals or memberships that the River Oaks Theatre may have compared to its big name competitors, but I highly recommend everyone to experience a film here at least once! Also there is ample parking nearby, but can't speak on it too much since I was dropped off.
