Hi everyone, I'm a professional screenwriter for films and television shows. That being said, I will commence my own personal review of recycled records. I am one of his best video dvd customers. Yeah, I've bought some cd's from the store, however when old classic stuff was up for sale at cheap prices. I have found some real bargains like Tim Buckley, Eric Clampton, Pink Floyd, Cream, Janis Joplin, and so on from the 60's and 70's. You've got to listen to understand how music evolves, Great voices like E. James, M. Jackson, M. Gaye, J. Lennon, F. Sinatra, George Michael and Freddy Mercury. Then Mariah Carey and Axel Rose shows us how to hit five octaves in a song and we are blown away. Now everybody is specialized in a genre and we like it. Anyway, go to this reputable business and tell Shawn (owner) that Mark sent you and receive a discount. He will honor it because he knows I was a Marine Corps Sniper once upon a time. Good selection at good prices. Their $1 bins were full of pretty good stuff and there were even more tucked under the regular shelves to go through. They are also 14 for $10 if you happen to find more. Their regular vinyl ranged in prices from $2-$12 for used and of course the usual $20-30 retail for brand new vinyl. This place is superb. Lots on Vinyl at very sensible prices which means buyers will buy!! Staff super helpful and also have CD's, 7' singles, new vinyl and well stocked. Don't leave the area without checking this store out. read more

I have been coming here for the past 20+ years. Great collection of vinyl and I have been more of a buyer than a seller. Items are priced fairly and much better than any retail outlet. Plus, if you're looking for that long forgotten album or CD, this is the place to check out first. Owner is great and I love talking stories about the music and the people behind the scenes that make it happen. initially not the most overly friendly or engaged guy, but...............once you get to know him he is very nice. The selection here is awesome, they have all kinds of stuff except the reggae is pretty slim. Never the less his prices are VERY GOOD and he has a guarantee, if it doesn't play properly simply return it! We buy records all over the country on road trips but this is by far our favorite spot. If you enjoy searching for lost treasure, then this is the place for you. There are tons of records throughout the store. It looks cluttered, but that adds to the experience of finding what you want in the midst of chaos. The staff is funny, attentive, and down to earth. Sections of music are clearly marked by genre and the prices are fair. read more

I was pleasantly surprised to hear a radio ad for recycled records, in fact, it was the ad that let me know they are there since I'm not super familiar with Monterey. I really dig the vintage atmosphere, and I walked away with a nice stack of soul, 60s rock, and a few oddball oddities. yay for recycled records!! read more

Checked this place out while walking along Lighthouse Ave and was so happy that I did! There was an amazing collection of rare LPs that are so hard to find at most record stores. Recycled Records doesn't necessarily excel at being a place for new or used records. Since they changed ownership a few years back there has been a marked drop off in quality. You can browse through their entire collection of new vinyl in about 5 minutes and their used records selection (which used to be their strong suit) is equal parts lacking and overpriced. Several times I've gone in looking for a specific record an have inquired about it, leaving a name and phone number. I never hear back from them. If you buy stereo equipment from them make sure to not leave until you've tried it out in store. The staff is friendly enough, but overall it's hard (especially with memories of how good the store used to be before ownership changed hands) to get around their glaring deficiencies. read more

No doubt the best place in Monterey County to sell your vinyl collection. It's a fun, funky store that right now has LOTS of Beatles memorabilia (yay!). Eclectic selection in both vinyl and CDs. Sean, the owner, pays a fair price for those LPs that are just rotting in your closet. If something is ruined and not playable, he tells you why. He also sells used stereo equipment, so if it's working, chances are he will buy it! No need to throw your old sound systems in the recycle/electronics bin--let Sean have a look and see if it's worth anything. Parking is fairly easy, and free, and there is a small parking lot in the back of the store in case Lighthouse Ave. is full. A fun afternoon browse with a knowledgable person who loves music as much as you do. Selling or buying, a fun place to browse with reasonable prices. read more

We only went in because Book Buyers next door was closed for lunch. I'm glad I did. First, I found a used record player at a reasonable price - and the concern for if it worked was great. Then I found three Mike Oldfield CDs I did not have (which is not common.) I bought them for $7 each. One was part three of a three cd set - and looking it up to see if I can find others I found only one copy for sale at over $100 - and. The second CD is also offered at $100 and the CD single is offered in England for about $30. Best visit to a record store ever - and I didn't even have a chance to look through the vinyl. I had such a great experience with a difficult project thanks to Sean, the owner. I had boxes of vinyl just sitting hidden in my garage as part of the prizes my late husband left me. I finally was hit with it's time to move these. I saw that Sean had joined the Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce which is important to me as it shows good business relations so I stopped in and to see how it works. What a trip. I was blown away with all that he has packed in his space. It's so neat that you can pass along your memorabilia thru here and let others enjoy them. so I finally drug out the boxes and took them to Sean. He went thru them and selected what was worthy of his market and then he even moved the rest for me so I did not have to return home with any leftovers. He was so kind and gracious and it really helped me a lot with my shedding project. I was glad to learn more about his business and hope others will drop in and check it out too. This is my go to record store when I'm in Monterrey. It is small, but they play good music and have a good selection. They don't Have many 78 record albums, which is a minus, but if you need 33's and 45's then come here. The reason why i gave this store minus one star is because i went to the record store looking at a Gene Autry 78's record album. It was a buck/ record. I went back a few months later, but then it was 2 bucks a record. I still got it for a dollar more, but still, why did the prices increase. Also, regarding Aaron's review, The 1 dollar records are 1 dollar for a reason. They obviously are not worth more, so to the beginning collector, its perfect. Can I give them 10 stars? I called to get info and got amazing help over the phone-- friendly and informative. Then, I went in with my broken turntable and was helped by the owner. He seriously knew his stuff! He taught me a lot about the care of records and players. He was funny, friendly, and helpful! He looked over my turntable and told me what was wrong--at no charge. After purchasing a new needle, he installed it for me--again, for free! While he worked on the player, I browsed and loved how clean and organized the shop was. Easy to find stuff, not overwhelming, not dark and covered in dust. I loved everything about this shop and will undoubtedly be back soon! read more

I went in yesterday to buy my first record player-- I didn't know anything about them, and the woman working there was extremely helpful. She showed me all of their players, honestly relating any details and functions to consider. She also gave me a rundown about vinyl basics, and what to look for when purchasing used records. This store was infinitely more pleasant and fun than Vinyl revolution, where the old, stereotypical, condescending fat metal guy just stared at me with his bug eyes and chided me for buying a Beach Boys album. read more
