This used to be my neighborhood store for 7 years. It's got a pretty good selection for a small place so I usually found what I needed quickly. They always have a great staff and I'll miss some of them that I've gotten used to seeing throughout the years. There's usually some good music playing over the speakers too. read more

I moved to the neighborhood about a year ago.I like to support local businesses. I am a single, working woman.I cannot afford to shop there for any item.I have tried several times.Half and half, butter, yogurt, bread..Everything is overpriced.Someone mentioned good beer prices.Are you kidding?Talk about overpriced! Seriously, is this a rich hippie place? Do locals actually buy groceries there?Am I missing something? I LOVE THIS PLACE! The kitchen produces the most DELICIOUS food! Those chefs are artists! Not only that but the gluten free baked goods are AMAZING! Yes, the prices in there are high but you get what you pay for! The staff are SWEETHEARTS & you're paying to support a GREAT local business! I don't mind paying more for FABULOUS food! Red Barn! Red Barn! What a lifesaver for us. We were traveling through the area and stayed in Eugene one night. We were outta luck with food, as we tried to eat at the Pizza Research Institute but struck out thanks to the bad attitude there. Red Barn was open and we were able to stock up on some some staples thanks to their very reasonable prices and great selection. We went back the next morning prior to our departure, and scored great coffee and toasted bagels with Earth Balance spread!!! We are NEVER able to find non-dairy butter options for bagels anywhere!!! What a great surprise! On top of that, the bagels were actually decent! One of the workers, who looked like a young Amish Cybill Shepherd, was very sweet and spoke with us about the many pluses of living in Eugene. We're sold! If we ever move here, we will shop here all the time. read more

No, the Red Barn doesn't have the biggest selection ever. But it's still a Whiteaker institution for good reason. Their stock is organic and includes everything from produce to handmade food to eco-cosmetics. Lots of the things stocked here (if not most) is local, so you know you're supporting your community when you shop here. I haven't been to Eugene in so long... Do they still do the distressed produce on occasion like Sundance does? If so, you really must agree that half-price produce cannot be beat. read more

Compared to other health and natural groceries in Eugene, I have to say that this one is the best. Simple and friendly, they have great produce that I acquire every time I enter and also a great beer selection (which is very important to me). I am lucky to be living very close to this business, as it is basically across the street from my apartment, but now that I have visited it a few times, it has to be my go-to place for produce and local groceries. read more

The wife and I stopped here to get some beer to take back to the hotel after eating at Papa's just across the street. Great little market. Decent prices. Very friendly, knowledgeable staff. But kind of the same as about a half dozen similar markets in the Eugene area. Worth a look if you are nearby. read more

I really like the Red Barn. It's not your normal grocery store. It reminds me of the small stores that were once a big part of small neighborhoods. You can't find a lot there- but what you do find is a FIND. I recently got some huge garlic bulbs, gorgeous HUGE italian kale and some ground beef. They had fresh shitake mushrooms for sale (which are never cheap- but never look that good!) You won't get a lot of selection, but it fully makes up for it in small town charm. This is one of those places that made me fall in love with Eugene. Just charming! read more

I really like this store. Red Barn is one of those Whitaker institutions, a place you walk into and just feel calm and stimulated at the same time, with the wide variety of healthy foods in tidy, well organized aisles. The staff has always been very helpful and friendly, and I like the fact that they do their best to keep the line moving when it gets busy. read more

My brother lives a few blocks from this fabulous little store and I adore popping in when I visit. Great Washington & Oregon wine selection and happy food. It's a bit tough to find "normal" stuff for us un-enlightened East Coasters (like, um, non-sprouted bread?) but still makes me wish we had half of the consciousness out here... and that there was anything even close to this nearby. Guess we'll make do with our chain stores and occasional co-op and farmers market ventures + CSA. read more

Great little store! One of my favorites in town. Excellent products and excellent "home-made" special foods & juices, etc. In my experience they have a one-of-a-kind fun friendly style of staff people. Prices a little high for some things but no more so than most organic food places, and they also have some really nice prices as well. read more

This is not a review of the grocery store which seemed to be a great little natural foods market with lots of local produce. This is a review of the service my family received when we tried (tried) to order coffee and bagels at the bakery here about a week ago. First, there were 3 people working behind the counter when we stepped up. It was around 11 on a Sunday morning and there was no line. The place is tiny. No chance they didn't see us. They were preparing plates behind the counter but we didn't even get a glance, much less a "we'll be right with you." I have to say this, and maybe I'm wrong, but I felt like we were being judged for not looking the part. We're a pretty average family of 4 with 2 small kids. We don't look extra earthy - just normal. Maybe they thought they didn't like us based on that? Or they're just rude to everyone? IDK. Anyways, it was notable and weird... My husband and I were exchanging WTF glances and about to leave but after standing around for about 5 minutes - not quietly we have 2 small kids and were talking to each other while we waited - a woman with short blonde hair came over to take our order. My husband started to order my son a smoothie and the second he bent down to my son to confirm if he wanted apple in it she literally walked away and shouted over her shoulder, "when you know what you want let me know!" WHAT?! She was a jerk. So we left. No idea if the food or coffee was good or bad. We went to Equiano instead and they were nice and their coffee was good and then we got food at the Sunday farmers market. Honestly, if these people had just said, "we're really busy it'll be a minute," or been remotely pleasant I wouldn't be writing this. read more

pretty good selection of bulk items, especially spices. everything was more expensive, to be expected i guess, but impossible to use as an everyday store on a student's budget. nice place to stop in for maybe hard to find herbs. better stores to be found in eugene, but not in the nearby area. read more

I like this place for certain specialty items, but I definitely do not come here for regular grocery items. I'm sure their quality is great, but it is quite expensive. However, there's a certain bread we buy here that is actually less expensive than at PC Market. (I think it's called Farmhouse, or something like that.) Sometimes, if it's past the date, they will mark it down to about a dollar and a half. Can't beat that for healthy bread. But, I haven't seen that too often, maybe also because I'm not in there that much. I also really like Botanical Symbiosis, which is a Jun-culture drink (like kombucha) that I haven't found anywhere else except at the Yachats Farm Store and Brewery. It's very expensive, but once in awhile for a treat, if you're a fan of kombucha-style drinks, this brand is good. It's also cultured with honey, and not sugar, which I appreciate very much. Red Barn also carries another brand which makes honey-sweetened root beer, ginger ale, and turmeric ale. They have bulk spices and herbs from Mountain Rose Herbs. I have yet to try their soups and sandwiches. Otherwise, I would say it's a great place for little specialty organic items that you may not find in your PC Market or other health food stores around town. read more
