Huge selection compared to any chain stores, and great prices. Even new items were cheaper than Amazon.

Paul invited me out to Video Games Live by asking, "Do you like classical music?"…read more "Depends on the type of classical music..." I said cautiously. What he should have asked was: "You like video games?" I would have been all up on that with a "HECK YEAH!" Video Games Live is a concert featuring live music and synchronized video footage from the most popular video games today and past - League of Legends, Command and Conquer, Diablo, Bioshock, WOW, Sonic, Super Mario, Legend of Zelda, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, so on - to supplement the Comic-con fun in San Diego. The concert is hosted by an industry veteran, Tommy Tallarico, and features the San Diego Symphony, SACRA/PROFANA (choir), Critical Hit (headed by Jason Hayes, World of Warcraft composer), and Viking Jesus, a fan who turns out metal covers. Meet and greets happen after the concert (the creator of Cave Story, who flew over from Japan, was at Video Games Live!), and intermission was lively with people trying to remember the title of last song played to score tickets to a Tim Burton concert the next night, a Star Trek concert the night after, and some Flux(??) tickets. Sitting with a crowd of gamers was truly a fantastic experience: At one point a dragon logo popped up on screen and the crowd went "OOOOOOH!" Turns out it was the logo for Skyrim. (Queue the OOH's) People all around cheered for their favorite games, as I cheered for Kingdom Hearts. A game to be released in beta - Heroes of the Storm - pitting the Blizzard entertainment game characters against each other, debuted a preview. For the last song a couple of people behind me kept shouting for Chrono Trigger and would you have guessed - the symphony played Chrono Trigger. A opera version of Tetris was belted out by a singer who has graced Halo, Diablo and the like. We all enjoyed the pixelated Sonic and Mario arguing with a hilarious, super douchey producer over their partners (Knuckles and Luigi). Though the visual to Silent Hill was creepy and had me in a concerned frown until it ended, the music, lead by Tommy Tallarico's electric guitar, along with Metal Gear Solid's, were among my favorite of the night. Wines, mixed drinks and beer (blue moon!) served. Food is also available as are big and clean, albeit smelly Port-a-potties, and hand washing stations. Bring a jacket for the impending chilly night. For future Video Games Live attendees, get as close as you can to the convention, or on Embarcadero, because the event is certainly not at the Jacobs center, about two miles away from where you want to be. When going back to your car two miles away take the bridge, in case a train decides to hold up traffic, causing you to walk in a huge 3-mile circle. Otherwise, Video Games Live, I'll see you next year!

THE FORGOTTEN GAMESTOP (5 stars)…read more I keep forgetting there is a GameStop in the back of this plaza! I like it more than the ones I usually go to - because parking is easy and they always have the games I'm looking for. Surprisingly, the day I went there were quite a handful of people in the store but I was quickly helped and I like how the employees engage with you about the game you are excited to buy, it makes it more exciting when they fill you in on their excitements. I think every GameStop I've shopped at the employees are so friendly! Will need to make this my home store! Until the next review...

I then asked if he had any stock in the back as Game Stop was also getting their inventory in for the NFL Topps Chrome where you could purchase them if there was any available. JEREMY the store manager mind you, told me nope they already sold out of all their stock and only have the pre order inventory. We left the store & called about 10 minutes later, guess who answered the phone? JEREMY THE STORE MANAGER, and we asked if they had any of the NFL Topps Chrome available for purchase where he proceeded to say YES WE DO.... Like are you kidding me? So the store manager lied right to my face 10 minutes prior when I was just in the store & asked; but yet called & then was told YES they do have stock available. Seems JEREMY likes to pick & choose who he sells to. The store manager JEREMY has very poor/bad customer service & also lied to his customers. It's no wonder this Game Stop location isn't doing that well because you have a guy like this running the store. Don't recommend this GameStop location at all, and would stay far clear of it. Who knows what else the store manager Jeremy lies about. Very bad experience all around.

I like this shop because it's very convenient when you're shopping here and they are always nice and helpful. NERDY NEEDS! (4 stars)…read more GameStop has always been such a cool store. Even cooler during the pandemic to purchase the needs to keep occupied and safe. And even cooler when trading options on meme stocks and making some cash flow! - New games, preowned games. And occasional deals such as buy 2 preowned get 1 free. - New and preowned equipment. The preowned is in petty good shape if you are looking to save some money. - They sell random retail nicknacks for those toy enthusiasts. I never considered myself a gamer until the pandemic. I played games virtually with friends, strangers, myself. I bought all the gadgets... The Switch, Meta Oculus Quest, and was fine not being outside (or physically social). Overall, I like coming in and buying myself a video game when my introvert side hits hard. What I noticed lately, they no longer give out plastic bags. I get it the new California rule but it would be nice to have tiny paper bags or something. I had asked them to tape the receipt to my game as I'll be walking into other stores that sell the same product. It's weird carrying an open item without a bag. But carrying my video game around the mall sparked random small chitchats with workers in other stores. Talking about a video game sure beats talking about the weather. Until the next review...
