BEWARE! TERRIBLE COMPANY Red Dot facilities have no employees on site. Good luck dealing with their headquarters in Boulder when they screw up and you need help. Sunday was moving day. I spent 2 weeks assembling a crew, coordinating schedules, and renting a U-Haul. We arrived at 8AM to find a red lock on our door preventing entry. Strange since I've always paid my bill 6 months in advance. The last was issued in November which I immediately paid through May. I called the number posted on their fence. The recording said I'd reached them outside business hours but I could hit 3 and leave a message for the manager. I hit 3. The manager's box was full. Office hours posted on the building said on Sundays they open at 9. Five of us waited an hour. No one showed up. At 9, Red Dot's switchboard opened. I explained what happened. Their rep looked at my account and said: There's no reason there should be a lock on your door. I said: So send someone over. I have 4 crew standing around plus a truck. She said: We can't do that. It's his day off. He can let you in tomorrow. I said: So call him on his day off and get him here. You have no backup?" She said: No. He's the only one. He can let you in tomorrow. That night I wrote a letter to Red Dot's President... 1) You locked me out of my rental unit for no reason, preventing access to my possessions, which access is guaranteed 24/7. Doing so without cause is illegal. 2) You prevented me from reaching your office by not providing a number to a local employee, not providing a number that gets through to anyone "after office hours," and not being open during the hours posted on your office. 3) You failed to make available a local person to permit me access even when your rep told me the screw up was your fault, not mine. The next day was my last opportunity to move before Christmas, so I made fresh arrangements based on Boulder telling me they'd have the lock off the following day. When I got to storage at 10AM, the lock was STILL ON and the office was still locked with no one on site. I called Boulder. The rep said: The lock would be off by the end of the day. I said that was unacceptable since we only have today and can't move in the dark. He said an employee would probably get there before the end of the day so there'd likely be time to move. I asked if the employee would call me when he arrived so I'd know the lock was off and could rent a truck. He said: No, they don't make calls. I said: So you're saying I have to drive from my house to storage every half hour all day to know when the lock's off. He said: The only other thing you can do is make a specific appointment to see him. That way, if he gets tied up, we'll call you to let you know he'll be late. He's free today at 2:30. I made the appointment. I reached the facility with 2 others at 2:15. The employee didn't show up AGAIN. At 2:45 I called Boulder. The rep said: Unfortunately, the employee got tied up at another facility. I reminded him that I'd been assured that I'd be called if that happened, to which he replied: There was no way for us to know. Really? In my 35 years as a business psychologist and real estate broker, I've never seen anything like this. At every turn, Red Dot let me know they couldn't care less about me as a customer--that I'm nothing more than a number and an irritant, all while illegally depriving me of what I paid for. On Tuesday, I finally heard from the company and was told that since they'd screwed up, they'd compensate me for my U-Haul rental of $60, but not my out-of-pocket crew expense of $300 or anything else, BUT that they would not be issuing a check. Compensation would be in the form of a credit against future rentals. AS IF I'D ACTUALLY EXTEND MY STAY. I can't wait to leave. read more

All of Red Dot's locations are run from their only office in Boulder, CO, so the same unfair and negligent people are responsible for problems at all of their facilities. Their BBB rating is D minus! This is the first negative review/complaint I have ever written. I feel compelled to warn others: DO NOT STORE AT ANY RED DOT STORAGE LOCATION. By far, the WORST customer experience I have ever had. They pulled a blatant BAIT AND SWITCH on their rate, and on the promised storage space, and on what they said what their rate increase policy was. This caused me a lot of expense, time and aggravation - for which Red Dot Management (including the owner and CEO) took basically NO RESPONSIBILITY. Instead, in true bait and switch form, they tried to get me to into alternate storage units at their facility for what would be more than double the clearly advertised price (making it higher than other storage companies). Regarding what their negligence and fraud cost me, they pretty much said - tough sh*t. Red Dot's own reps even told me the same thing that happened to me has happened to others. (Which Red Dot had 30 days to respond to, but FAILED to respond to at all) I believe they didn't respond because they are absolutely guilty (and I can PROVE my complaint accusations) Also, read the complaint under another Red Dot location about a customer who paid for a climate controlled storage unit, but the climate control got turned off and their belongings got severe mold. This caused unhealthy conditions and painful symptoms for the family. Red Dot did not take any responsibility. Red Dot did not respond to this complaint either. I highly recommend you select any other storage business - do not fall for a low online rate - (even if you call their HQ to confirm the rate is correct like I did) Also, no matter what BS they tell you about their rate increase policy, once you finally get to see it in writing on their contract, you will see it allows them to raise their monthly storage rate as much as they want, as often as they want, with 30 days notice - so the customer is at high, vulnerable risk - and moving stuff out of storage is usually a pretty big hassle. Lastly, Red Dot has also had problems with theft of customer's stored property. (Their locations are even unmanned) read more

Red Dot does not allow customers to rate them on their Facebook page. Why? Because they are horrible in almost every aspect and their rating would be very very low. I was also bait and switched and lied to. If you have a problem, there is no one at their facilities to help you. And management at their headquarters does not take any responsibility for problems and complaints you will have with them - sooner or later. Don't store here. read more
