This was my second visit to Red Feather, and it was absolutely fabulous. My roommates and I came here on a Sunday for brunch. We arrived in the 11am hour, and there were no walk-in tables available (aside from the bar). We put our names on the waitlist and popped over to the District for a cup of coffee. After 30ish minutes, we got a text alert that our table was ready. We walked back over to the restaurant and were sat at a lovely table right next to the window. Our server was so friendly and quick to help me decide between the brisket hash and huevos rancheros. I went with his suggestion and ordered ruevos Rancheros - this was lovely! The pork was cooked in a savory chile verde sauce, served over a bed of black beans. Atop it all was corn tortillas, two eggs sunny-side up, and salsa. I highly recommend this dish, it's what Sunday brunch dreams are made of! read more

What a treat! Brunch was wonderful. Make a reservation because this place was packed! We were quickly taken to our upstairs table. The glass cube wine display with the spiral staircase is so cool! The brunch menu is super fun with lots of options. Order the LARGE mimosa to share! Well worth the $12. I went with the huevos rancheros. SO YUM! A full layer of grilling cheese! The salsa had the perfect amount of spice, and the eggs were cooked perfect. We also wanted to try the beignets with butterscotch because- YUM! Our server Luke, smartly suggested we enjoy them as dessert after the meal. Perfect touch. Our "Fancy, french, fried donuts" (as Luke called them) were the perfect way to end our meal. With apologies to Rodgers and Hart. "We'll take Manhattans, New twist Old Fashioneds, Housemade Eggnog too, It's lovely sipping through Red Feather's menu." OK. I'll stop. But a timely tip to say the Eggnog with Buffalo Trace bourbon and a kiss of fresh grated nutmeg is a treat with a true limited time offer as it is likely to come off the menu after New Year. It was worth every calorie of indulgence and may be the best eggnog I have ever enjoyed. All cocktails here are luscious. These are skilled mixologists at work. The drinks menu has both new twists on old favorites as well as completely new combinations and drinks are listed on the extensive menu in order of light to dark. There is a lot to like here outside of the beverages. This is not just a bar with food. This is a restaurant with delicious food that also serves cocktails and wine. It has advantages that its' sister enterprise of Bittercreek, right next door, does not. The Achilles here may be service. VIBE The space is small and tight but somehow they have avoided the gawdawful noise levels and cheek to cheek (as in south cheeks) crowding of Bittecreek. The music is a good, unusual mix that fits the space and while it is at an assertive level is not the overwhelming level of Bittercreek. There is a two story lighted wine cellar display offset by wood tables and a casual feel that is just a little sophisticated too. One is at home here in jeans but one could also feel this is date night setting. There are low tables and high stool seating both on the first floor and more tables and chairs up a steep flight of stairs. SERVICE I wouldn't say this is "all people are welcome" vibe as our host and servers while cordial did seem a bit unsure of us given we are likely outside the usual demographic. Follow up was minimal. But "nolo timere Boomers" is my motto. We old people who remember exactly where we were on November 22, 1963 eat and drink too! EATS Red Feather shares a kitchen and menu with Bittercreek Alehouse until 5:00 so you'll find delicious food using locally sourced ingredients. Happy hour from 4:00 to 6:00 is as Bittercreek's menu. After 5:00 p.m. Red Feather has their own dinner menu. This is easily some of the best food we've had in all of Boise and while some may do as good a job for Farm to Fork sourcing, none do it better than Bittercreek and Red Feather. They even list all of their local suppliers on the back of the menu; something I very much appreciate. Prices range from as little as $2 for happy hour tacos (these both my husband and I highly recommend) through entrees priced at around $20 minus. These are really fair prices for the quality and portions. Tis a mystery how they do it. My Brooklyn native husband called the Manhattan Clam Chowder among the best he's ever had. Leaning vegetarian in most things, we note the menus (lunch and dinner) are great ones for those who like to graze through a menu as omniovores, but in particular a good set of options for vegetarians. I'd say order anything with chimichurri sauce. And if you think a wedge salad is a ho-hum thing, try it here as transformed with butter lettuce heart, gorgonzola, candied bacon, oven roasted tomatoes and crispy fried onions. Just over five bucks on the dinner menu and it is a meal in itself. HAPPY HOUR OK. I'm going to be a crumudgeon about their Happy Hour drinks special. (HH is 4 - 6 / M-F). This is a policy used by several Boise establishments. A "two for the price of one" on certain drinks. That does not mean you can order two drinks for two people to have one each and pay for one. It means the same person has to order both drinks for themselves. Drink one, your second one is free. For some people two cocktails and a drive home is not a good thing. I think this policy encourages over consumption. I'm much more a fan of HH policies that offer a discount on one beverage. VINO We have yet to order wine here and we need to fix that shortcoming on our part because they have a great list of fairly priced wines by the glass and by the bottle with Idaho and Northwest options well represented. Salute! THIS N THAT: 1) BREAKFAST & OTHER SPECIAL FEATURES: I hear they serve breakfast, although have not been in for that meal. They also have a wine cellar that is available for special events I hear. And, hey, I wouldn't have necessarily minded a nightcap... Red Feather delivered in a big way. First, I've previously stated that I prefer their small plate menu to their full blown entrees. That, my friends, was before my Thursday night Kasespatzle. Dear delicious cheesy god--swiss gruyere, crispy onion, and a hint of nutmeg. It was the perfect dish, presented at the perfect moment. And, a total bonus yahtzee? My favorite bartender was mixing that evening (I can't think of her name, but she's got a red feather on the back of her shoulder). The woman is an alchemist. I ordered the whiskey sour. It was delivered and my dining companion said to me as I sipped, "that does NOT look like a whiskey sour," (he fancies himself a bit of a whiskey man). "Try it, " I urged. He did. "That's awesome!" "Yep." "No, I mean, as whiskey sours go...that's like a really, really good one." "That's what I'm sayin', doll." And, of course we ended the evening sharing an order of beignets. It's a Red Feather tradition. If you order nothing else, you should always and every single time order the beignets. Situated downtown in old brick building, 2 story with basement, which is home for composting red worms that eat food scraps and produce an earthy, rich, and beneficial vermicompost. Cool! Note: we met owner a year or so ago when in town and toured the vermicompost operation--I don't know of any Portland restaurants doing it like this on site! Very convivial atmosphere. Several areas for chit chatting, partying, or casual-fine dining. Kenzey, our friendly and knowledgeable server steered us through the menu and we ordered based on her suggestions, because it all looked great. In town for the weekend and we were able to sneak out for a nice dinner at Red Feather Lounge. The ambiance was really fun and the service was fast and friendly. The food was excellent! We ordered the Romensco Cauliflower which was delicious and luxurious. We also had the lamb empanadas which were full of flavor and the preserved lemon was a pop of brightness I didn't see coming. Best brunch spot in Boise! Red Feather Lounge has been consistently good as long as I've lived in Boise. I've never been here for dinner but highly recommend their brunch. We made a reservation for noon on Sunday. When we arrived we had a couple of additional people who weren't originally planned. Thankfully they were not packed (Saturday would be a different story) and we were able to slide two tables together. Our server was very friendly and accommodating. He was also vary knowledgeable and offered great suggestions. Of course we ordered the $7 mimosa carafes because they're delicious and such a great value. Then we ordered some Beignets & Butterscotch while we looked through the menu. I highly suggest sharing this appetizer because it is VERY sweet but super delicious. I ordered the two egg breakfast with sides of avocado and cheddar potato hash. Can someone please teach me how to make those potatoes?!? Even the half of avocado was perfectly ripe, salted to perfection with sea salt and topped with oil. My daughter had the breakfast pizza and could not even finish half of it (largest portion at the table). Her father was happy to finish the leftovers we took home. We came here for brunch on a Sunday morning during the summer. This restaurant was one of the busier patios at 9am. Service was nice and prompt, had good recommendations. We ordered coffee and a mimosa. The coffee was local and delicious, the mimosa was standard, nothing special. We ordered a cup of berries, the huevos rancheros, and the short rib hash. Everything was good, the hash was savory and the huevos rancheros was flavorful. Not sure why but I felt there was something missing from both meals that would make these plates perfect. I'm in absolute love with this spot in DT Boise! We had a group of four of us on New Years Eve for dinner and drinks before we headed over to watch the potato drop. We made a reso in advance so we didn't have an issue getting a table but this place was paaaacked. Despite the how busy it was, the service was great and the drinks and food were super delish! We all had tried some of their signature cocktails, including the Milk & Honey, fries and some of there spicy (and I mean SPICY) wings. Loved the special touch on NYE...they offered a complimentary champagne toast just prior to midnight for everyone in the joint. This used to be our favorite restaurant background the time it originally opened. Pretty sloppy now however The wait staff just pretty much ignored us. Took forever for someone to come take a drink water, then the waiter didn't know what beers they had available so he went off to find a list. Another huge delay. Maybe the best dinner we had on our 9 day road trip around Idaho, Washington and Oregon. The rosemary roasted trout was the best trout I've had in my life, flavorful, huge and not flatted out like most. Gnocchi was great except it was kinda cold. Idaho potatoes fries were excellent and wedge salad was as expected. Food took forever to come out but it was worth the wait. Prices were more than reasonable compared to San Francisco dining prices. The best thing about it is sitting upstairs in the winter . It's cozy and the food here is good . They have a pink cocktail w/ rosemary sprig in it in particular that is to die for ! I just can't remember what it's called ? In the summer it's nice to have brunch on the patio outside but the issue for me is that the patio furniture is too close together and the upstair area is too narrow / claustrophobic . I've always loved Red Feather lounge, and have been eating here since they opened probably more than 20 years ago. But since the pandemic and a re-opening with a small brunch and lunch menu. Things just aren't the same. I'm vegan and gluten-free and my boyfriend is not. We used to be able to go to Red Feather and order breakfast or lunch and we'd both be able to find things on the menu to satisfy us. However there are not any vegan options available on the menu and the only gluten-free options are if you order some type of meat dish. Even the side dishes are not available vegan no gluten-free toast etc. In this day and age when so many more people are exploring a plant-based diet I thought that Red Feather would be one of the more progressive restaurants in town. I really do hope that they'll add at least one or two vegan and gluten-free options to their breakfast and lunch menu I think they'll be surprise how many people will order these options. I hope to be back soon and write another review with 5 stars. I will add that the service, space and food is great quality. If you're a meat eater you will love going! read more

Yum!! We were in Boise for the Idaho potato bowl, so glad we went here!! You have to get the Focaccia appetizer. We got like 6 orders of it for 9 people, it comes in a tiny cast iron with garlic and butter. 5/5 Also hits were the tempura cauliflower (5/5) and Brussels sprouts (5/5 - these were my favorite). We also got the lamb meatballs and chips and dip which were both really good, the other things just stood out more. For entrees, my dad and I got the spicy GOAT and the flying pig, both which were excellent. The flying pig was like a bbq pork pizza. The spicy goat was medium spice to me, but I love spicy food. Several people at our table thought it was really spicy, so proceed with caution if you are sensitive to spice. I got the carrot cake for dessert, just wow. SO amazing. It was a waiter recommendation and he was spot on, it was so good! Definitely recommend it. I also had two cocktails, both were excellent. Can't go wrong at this place!! read more

Every dish we got- chicken liver pate, artichoke panzanella salad, biscuits with ham, and rabbit gnocchi, were delicious. I've probably been to this place 100+ times. In the span of when this bar was considered a "lounge" it was my spot every Saturday with a bottle of my favorite champagne and plenty of shots of fernet. Mark was the bartender and it had the perfect mix of loungey look, good music, big city-esque feel and drinks that killed it. The food was equally as good, Kobe that could knock the socks off any upscale steakhouse in LA or NY and cedar plank Salmon that put Red Feather on the map. Now, unfortunately it feels like I just walked into a cafeteria, it's bright and loud, bartenders are snobby, service is slow, food is sub-par and the drinks, well they're alright. It's sad to see such a perfect place go downhill. I really hope that at some point we can get back the original Red Feather. Until then I'll have to find a new lounge...... read more

This is a great place for a drink with a friend, or a nice gals night out with your mom. You can dress fancy and no one would give you a second glance. The drinks are delicious, never had a bad one. The presentation is generally the most fun. I had something called "the pink lady" with cute little slice of dried grape fruit on it. Over all the place matches the drinks, great presentation. I love their lighting, seating, and most of all their crazy wine glass case situation. Can't say I've had food here, but it is certainly a fun place to drink! We wanted to take advantage of the beautiful weather on the last day of my mother in law's visit to Boise by having lunch downtown. One of our best bets seemed to be Red Feather Lounge/Bittercreek Ale House since I knew them to be fairly family friendly. We arrived after the lunch time rush so the patio wasn't particularly crowded, and we were pleasantly surprised to find out they have high chairs. Our server was very friendly and accommodating, and I think she was handling the bar and the patio all by herself apart from a gentleman that helped to bring out orders. Regardless service was prompt and competent. The cocktail menu is extensive with many unique offerings, but nothing stood out to me so I just ordered a Riesling. I also had a Bittercreek burger. It was tender and juicy, and as I said on my updated Bittercreek Ale House review the best "grown up" burger I've ever had. The Red Feather side seemed less busy than the Bittercreek side, but I didn't notice much of a difference in ambiance or quality of service. You're golden either way. read more

We stopped in for a light dinner back in February when we were in town. The restaurant is very gay-friendly. Our server was a nice gentleman named Alex. We found out that it was the end of Tiki Week. We tried some fun Polynesian cocktails. One was called Port light, and the other one was called "I don't know how to pronounce that." Both were very tasty, and decorated festively with fresh orchids. We stop into Red Feather for cocktails as often as we can. The place is usually hopping after 7ish, so we try to get there before 6. We sit at the bar so we can watch the mixologists do their stuff. The staff is friendly and are happy to suggest a cocktail for any taste. We tried a couple of their apps during our last visit and were surprised at how good they tasted, as well as how salty they were. The poutine included fries that were crispy enough to hold up to the well seasoned gravy and bubbly melted cheese. But, the top layer of fries had an unbearable amount of salt. The brandy-seared Halloumi is served with pickled apple slices and crispy bread/crackers and is very good. The salty of the cheese and the tartness of the apple are perfect. But, as we worked through the layers of components, the apples turned salty as well. I really have nothing against salt. Both of these dishes were creative, well presented and far above the normal fare offered in a standard bar/lounge, but the salt was a bit heavy handed for my taste. Still, great cocktails and fun food. Will be back to revisit other food offerings. read more

Tables and seating are comfortable yet sturdy. Your drink won't wobble when you leave your seat. [One of my peeves.] The wait staff is very attentive and .. well.. You'll see. The food is great! The menu isn't complex or convoluted. There is just a nice selection of light salads, meat entrees, and appetizers. Everything is moderately priced. Location, location location. Oh, did I mention that this restaurant is in the perfect spot? This place is nestled right in the heart of downtown Boise. Its sits in the eclectic Mecca of the 8th street strip between Idaho street and Bannock street. This area of town is bustling from Noon to Midnight.
