While we were in town for the Mountain West Championship game (GO BIG BLUE) we heard from another fan about the Red Feather Lounge and decided a cocktail was in order. This place is connected to Bittercreek Ale House (which we also love) and the bar was looking good. Nice top shelf spirits were on full view. Bartender (the one with pretty red hair) gave us cocktail menus and we ordered. Now I'm an amateur mixologist so I watched her make my cocktail and have to say I was impressed. She crafted it perfectly and as she should do.....tasted it before serving me. Nice......I tasted and gave her my 100% approval. I needed a second cocktail and asked her for a mixologists choice. Our server was wonderful. The food? Not so much. We arrived for an early meal and the place was pretty empty. Despite this, we were seated at a small two-top directly across from the bar with lots of foot traffic squeezing by behind us as things picked up. A cramped experience. Showed up for our reservation and no hostess was at the front. So we looked around like do we seat ourselves? Made eye contact with the bartenders NUMEROUS TIMES. The guy and girl behind the bar just looked at us but made no effort to say anything. Not a greeting, nothing. We waited for a few minutes. Finally I asked the girl hey do we seat ourselves? She said yes. We walked over and sat down literally next to the bar. They watched us and still didn't attempt to greet us, bring water, or a menu. So I came here with some friends and only ordered an appetizer because I had just eaten. My boyfriend and I shared the salmon croquetas and they were so good. Very substantive and delicious! The service is really polite, kind, and patient. Sometimes I have a hard time at restaurants because I go for a drink and the ambiance but feel pressured to order something but here I had plenty of time and it was easy to get the attention of our server when I was ready to order. The bartender, Giana, I admittedly knew prior but she is the sweetest person to interact with whether you know her or not. Met friends here for dinner and drinks. I love the concept of this place. The menu has wine and beer in order of how far they are from the restaurant, clever. They also use all local ingredients and even make their ketchup from scratch. I had the grass fed burger with Huntsman's cheese. Who would have known that Huntsman's cheese is a combo of cheddar and blue cheese? Yum! The burger came with a heaping mound of fresh fries which I couldn't help but devour. We ended up staying for quite a few rounds of drinks. The waiter was helpful in making choices too given my beer knowledge is limited to bud light, miller light and amstel light. - OOOps. I found it rather comical though that all the drinks the boys ordered seem to come in these girly - should have a beach umbrella - glasses and all us chickas got pint glasses. Oh Red Feather how I love you! Such a swanky place but also not out of my price range. This has quickly become my favorite spot for brunch...why did I overlook it for so many years in college? Maybe I have matured and become keen to more classy places since I've hit 30.. Anyway, I have been there for breakfast, drinks, dinner, special events...they excel at it all! High quality ingredients and an exceptional culinary experience. The place isn't really big but the set up is unique and chic. Make reservations on Open Table just in case they are busy! Brunch: Great menu, lots of delicious options to choose from. I highly suggest the short rib hash and an avocado on the side...it's heavenly. A little spendy as they don't include the side anymore on most of the brunch items but I will spend the almost $20 for it. The breakfast pizza is also amazing, and as a warning it feeds 2. The coffee is great as well as the mimosas-carafe option! My husband loves the Bloody Marys. A night out for drinks or Happy Hour: This is a great option. They have a Happy Hour that ends at 5:30 with some good specials on apps and local wines/beers. If you just want to go for drinks, they have an extensive assortment of cocktail and liquor options as well as beer and wine! Lots of fun, fancy drinks and the dark mood lighting makes it just right. Special Events: I went to a birthday party here in their Wine Cellar that you can rent downstairs. I think this is a hidden gem, it's so cool! We finally got around to dining at Red Feather for dinner. While the start to the night was good, the main show was not. We both ended up ordering the Butterleaf salad to start and would have appreciated if our waiter would have warned us how large the portion was as it was enough to split between two as a starter. That's aside, it was a good take on a classic wedge. My husband ordered the pork chop and I order the tenderloin. My husband enjoyed his chop but he unfortunately ate it all by himself since my tenderloin showed up RARE, despite ordering it medium. Unfortunately by the time he finished my meal just showed up. That pretty much defeats the purpose of having dinner "out" together while he waited for me to finish. We expected better from Red Feather. The place has a very cool and hip feel to it. The dark setting with defined lighting lends itself to be a restaurant with a great vibe. The service from Brody was exceptional and would get 5 out of 5. Brody was very professional, personal, well informed, and helpful. Would highly recommend Brody. Our dinner started with 2 very tasty specialty drinks that Brody mentioned were very good. We had an appetizer of Purple Chips. The chips arrived very quickly which was nice. The chips were a little salty for me and the aioli on top of the chips did not exist on the description within the menu. The wife ordered the mushroom pizza and I ordered the short ribs. The pizza was ok she said. The pizza lacked cheese and the crust lacked flavor. My short ribs were sub par. The meat was on the fatty side for my liking. The roasted carrots were the best part of the dish. We have been here for brunch and had a better experience then. My boyfriend, who has been here many times, made us a reservation on a Saturday night. I am new to Boise and had never been to Red Feather. All he told me was "you'll love it!" Jeez, was he right. When we got there, it was packed (make a reservation, especially on a weekend!) but they seated us right away. I highly recommend sitting upstairs if there are tables available - it's so cozy, private, and perfect for people watching below! As per our waiter's suggestion, I ordered the trout entree (locally sourced! Woop!) and my boyfriend ordered the lounge burger. While we were celebrating our anniversary that night, I was also secretly celebrating the love affair that was going on with me & that trout dish. Oh me oh my. The flavors balanced each other perfectly, and the portion was generous enough to fill me up but it was not overwhelming. Our waiter was awesome, popping in every now & then to check in but he obviously caught the vibe that it was a private night and we wanted time to ourselves. The only thing that slightly bothered me was that the music seemed SO loud. It was a Saturday night so I understand, but it was only 7-8ish. Found this place through Yelp. My girlfriend and I were in from Salt Lake to check Boise out. We weren't disappointed. Food was great. Had a beat salad, dungeness dumplings and the Lamb Burger. Dumplings were very average but the salad and Lamb Burger were excellent. I ordered a drink called "start a blog". It was average. The ambiance was 5 star, the waiter was funny and did a good job explaining the menu and new items they had. Our salad and dumplings arrived quick. Drinks shortly after. I went here around 7:30pm on a Friday night and we did get to sit outside on the patio but the tables were so close together it felt like we were all on top of each other. I made reservations online since I've heard it's a small yet popular place. I was glad I did! The place was busy even at 6pm on a Thursday. The service was good with good sized portions for the cost. There was a lot to pick from from the drink menu and the service was good. Our waitress had an extensive knowledge of popular local recommendations food and drink wise and was very friendly. Food took about 20 minutes to be served and we were too full for dessert. I plan on going back. I'm a big fan of the lamb burger, and their beignets (fried yummy donut balls with caramel dipping sauce) are amazing! I always try to make a reservation so I can reserve a table on their 2nd floor. Truly as good as it gets! I popped by Red Feather late on a Friday night and it was hoppin', but the staff never skipped a beat. Though the place was packed we were treated like the only table in the house. The friends I dined with are regulars and so they partake in a super cool cocktail club that anyone can join. You pay for a card (I think you can redeem it after a certain purchase of drinks?) and then you get to try dozens of classic cocktails off the menu over the course or weeks, months, or years. Anytime you visit you can ask to see your cocktail card and they'll bring it to you. It'll have a signature or stamp over the drinks you've tried and the rest are left for you to check out. There's info about the cocktails at each table and the map itself also has descriptions. It's a great way to learn more about cocktail culture and history - all while sort of playing a game! Educational + fun = awesome. While not a member of the club (since I'm from out of town), I still got a great drink. Ok, two great drinks. No, maybe three! The food here is also outstanding. Every single item was awesome - the Brussels sprouts, the smoked trout, you name it - we ate it and we loved it. I don't think I could visit Boise again without demanding we go here. We ordered drinks which were sub par. The server was very uninformed as to what was in the signature cocktails on the menu. The menu itself is very minimal. We were very displeased with the pizza. The steak and potatoes were great, the side of red wine reduction sauce was the perfect addition to the entree. However our overall experience was a major disappointment!! I have a pretty sexual crush on the Red Feather Lounge and am seriously contemplating entering into a long distance relationship with this establishment. I know, I know. Liz Lemon says that "Long Distance is the Wrong Distance" but I bet she has never eaten here. I came here based on the yelp reviews (obvi) and thank you yelp friends for steering me in the right direction! I started with the grilled kale caesar. Perfection! Didn't fill me up and just got me super revved up for my next two courses. I followed it with the smoked trout appetizer (more perfection). At this point I took a lap around the restaurant to check out the wine cellar and digest a bit. This place is AWESOME! Completely charming and totally original. Alright. Back to the table! More food! My main course was the sturgeon. I had to hold myself back from licking the plate. If the restaurant was a tiny bit darker I would have. I ordered the cobbler for dessert and was so full that I had to take it to go. Talk about a delicious midnight snack. Holy Lord. The best part about my dining experience was my waitress, Kate. I probably can't add much that hasn't been said here, but I'll give my opinion anyway. We sat on the patio on a hot day, and it was nicely shaded and had misters going that kept it cool. Watching people walk by and listening to the conversation of the downtown business crowd was a fun diversion. The hostess was incredibly friendly, and gave me a table despite the fact my dining buddies wouldn't arrive for a while. The waiter was equally nice, and continued to be helpful, gracious, and accommodating throughout the meal. He seemed like a genuine human being rather than a waitron trying to increase his tips or sell us something, which I truly liked. The menu is small but everything on it looked good, and sounded appealing. I went for the veggie pita, with a side salad, which was great. The pita bread was warm and fresh, and it was packed with hummus, feta, tzatziki sauce, cucumbers, and tomato. Totally delicious, salty, creamy, crunchy, and satisfying. It came wrapped in paper, which helped contain the drippage--a factor I appreciate as a total slob. It was more than enough for a meal, especially when accompanied by the nice salad of mixed greens. My dining buddies both got the BLT, which they loved, and said the bacon was in the perfect crispy but not brittle condition. The sweet potato fries disappeared before I could snag a bite, and the coleslaw looked good as well. That I couldn't dive in fast enough to steal my buddies' food says everything that needs to be said. The prices are in line for what you'll pay anywhere downtown. I appreciate that the food is locally sourced, and they are aware of their environmental impacts and do what they can to minimize them. I'm pretty sure the bacon we had was from Chris, the pig at Snake River farms, who gave his life so we might have good BLTs. He left behind a wife and three piglets, and is remembered for being a good family man. Anyway, they give you all the information about where your food comes from, so you can get it's personal story too, if you'd like. I'll definitely be back. Well, check on the ambience and fail on the service. We had horrible service. It was beyond. I could not believe it. No one from out of town was impressed or happy when we left. I expressed my displeasure with a manager received very little feedback. I even wrote an email and no one responded. It just shows lack of care for customer service. A good meal, for a good price. Fish and beef dishes were well-portioned and had great flavors. The serving staff recommended a great bottle of wine. Have been to the Red Feather a few times, and will return. The restaurant space is a bit odd/funky -- with a very musty smell permeating the building -- but they make the most out of the space that they are using. The desserts were great. At 905pm I walked back to the hostess stand only to be informed that she called us, we did not answer so we were removed from the list. I told her we have been at the bar the entire time & never received a call. She got very huffy & said let me see what I can find but I did call you. I returned to the bar waited & she never did return. I paid our tab & left. Bartenders were awesome! Very friendly, talkative, attentive & prompt with service.
