This Friday, I asked my friend to dinner to celebrate her birthday. She's a steak lover, so I chose Red Horse Restaurant in Rumson. I arrived before my friend and was warmly greeted by a stunning hostess! I decided to have a drink in the bar while waiting for my friend as I was a little early! I can't remember when I've had a better dinner! We started with Caesar salad and a blue cheese salad! Fresh crisp, flavorful and delicious dressings My friend ordered a filet and let me just add, she's a picky eater and orders her steaks medium well! It was served with roasted potatoes and green beans. I ordered the hanger steak, medium rare, it was served with ramps chimichurri and unlimited fries! The fries! Oh my! The best, ever! The hanger steak was beyond, perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned. I was in heaven... And so was my friend. In lieu of bread, they serve popovers! What? Fantastic! We decided to eat in the bar room as the live music was quite good and ambience, inviting! The bartender/server, CHRIS, who is phenomenal, knew we were celebrating a birthday so he brought over complementary glasses of champagne, very sweet! I could go on and on, this restaurant is located just outside of Fairhaven/Redbank convenient exit on exit off to the Garden State Parkway. We came in for a birthday celebration for twins...came early, and let them know when we made reservations it was for a double birthday...We were very disappointed....The service was blah and the waitress was nice but seemed to be more interested in upselling the food choices.... I was surprised for a table of 5 there was no bread or salad offered but of course we could order and pay for it...and we had to order a double order of bacon and popovers since there were 5 of us. The food was good but nothing special...the best thing was when the chef invited the kids to the kitchen to make cotton candy. We did order 2 desserts for the table which came with 2 servers and 1 candle ...and the bill came to about $350.00 with out drinks. The selection catered to all tastes. Sadly, however, the restaurant was less than half full on the night I went. My wife and I had our 5 year anniversary here. I was so happy she picked this place. All of the food was a 10 out of 10. Service was a little slow, I over heard someone called out but it turned out to be a blessing. I used the extra time to digest. The surf and turf with the potato latkes and a side of au poivre sauce deserves a Michelin star. The flavor in every bite was incredible. One of the best meals I've had all year. Let's start with ambiance. Very cute place. Very upscale style. Surprised how empty it was on a Saturday at 730. Service: We did feel service was a little slow considering but over all still great. The waiter was friendly but I think new as she was slacking in certain areas. Food: I had the pasta bolognese and to me it was to die for I loved how the meat was loaded on there and it wasn't just mostly pasta. Also, their triple chocolate cake was absolutely delicious. I love the presentation. Sadly, my husband's filet mignon was overly charred and not cooked as they would normally have. Service was terrible; they took my plate while I was still eating, rushing us out of the table (restaurant was nearly empty since it was 11am) , server kept forgetting to bring kids menu. No alternative for kids other than order the super expensive menu of 90$adult/40$ kids. The resulting is somehow upscale but lack in space. Not David Burke old townhouse experience for sure. I've been to David Burke's other restaurant before in the area, Drifthouse, several times and really enjoy it. I wanted to try Red Horse and it was a nice day so we drove down to the shore. It was also restaurant week so there was a prefix meal deal. When we arrived, there was valet parking. At the front of the house was Tim, who was so friendly and personal. We talked to him for a while at the start and when we were leaving. He even checked in with us while we were eating. The restaurant is beautiful and has an old school feel which I love. Everything everyone ate was outstanding. The clothes string bacon is a show that they heat up tableside. David Burke was there and came over and talked to us which was so enjoyable. Red Horse by Chef David Burke never disappoints, and their March Madness prix-fixe menu is an absolute slam dunk! We toasted with some beautiful cocktails--the Dirty White Boy and a pistachio martini--before diving into an incredible meal. The butternut squash soup was velvety, and the shrimp spring rolls were next-level, featuring jumbo shrimp fried to crispy perfection. Of course, I had to get the iconic clothesline bacon--a must every time! For mains, the rigatoni Bolognese was rich and hearty, while the angry shrimp pasta with its lobster tail bonus was absolutely delicious. The salmon was packed with flavor, and the steak frites hit the spot. Dessert stole the show! The chocolate mousse cake was pure decadence, the lobster tail sfogliatelle was almost too beautiful to cut into, and the crème brûlée was luxuriously smooth. I had my birthday dinner here a couple nights ago. Anthony, the new GM, and his friendly staff made my family and I feel like royalty the moment we stepped into this beautiful restaurant. Chef Burke was also there to wish me a happy birthday and was very congenial and offered suggestions from the menu. Red Horse's food speaks for itself and the ambiance was laid-back and inviting. Anthony brought over a delicious tiramisu martini that he hand-crafted, so make sure you hit him up for one of his many craft dessert cocktails that he's known for. Absolutely terrible service. No one could handle keeping our water glasses filled. They are minuscule to begin with and we asked multiple times to just leave the water carafe on the table which was refused. Our daughter asked for apple cider and prosecco for a drink and was refused even though both ingredients were on the menu. Server expected us to take our drinks from her so she did not have to place them on the table herself. Our popovers were forgotten and when we asked about them, we received them ice cold. Very confused servers came out to deliver our food and had no idea who was getting what. We had to hunt our server down to get a steak knife for filet mignon. Kinda disappointed! My husband and I went last minute dinner in January and had a terrific experience. We made reservations for last night to go back with friends, let's just say, not great. Drinks took 20 minutes, had to order next drink when we were being served the first one. Bartender was a little cranky too. No dinner specials, or pasta special as advertised on menu, our sides came out with appetizers, appetizer plates still on the table when dinner came out, overall just a mess! Went to the bathroom and there was a spill on the floor in the foyer, still there when we were leaving, not a great look! The personable waitress definitely made up for all the mishaps. First time here. Was skeptical at first because I had an 8:15 reservation and when we got there they said it would be at least a 15 minute wait. I was preparing myself for it to be a longer wait. We were very impressed that David Burke walked over to us and said table for 2? He walked into the dining room and moved things along so we wouldn't have to wait, And apologized for us waiting at all. Food was impeccable. Went to the Rumson location for Christmas day dinner. Food was borderline cold. Steak was a 4 out of 10. We ordered two medium filet mignon, one of which came out medium rare. Going to be direct & blunt with the feedback. You're in Rumson, things are going to cost a bit more than usual, understandable. We had a good meal but it was not worth $260. When you arrive on time for your reservation expect to hear "your table is not ready yet, it will be 10-15 minutes but please feel free to to over to the bar." We obliged, went to the crowded bar but could not get the bartenders attention so we came back a few minutes later and our table was magically ready. (Same for 2 other groups). I appreciate the attempt to get people to have a drink, but there were many empty tables - kinda shady. Pros - food was pretty tasty Cons - 3% credit card surcharge at a fancy restaurant, tacky. $20!!! for a Bulleit bourbon on the rocks, yikes! We ordered the wagyu tartare which was very tasty, no complaints. My wife had the roasted chicken with farotto - she enjoyed it but nothing spectacular. I had the surf and turf - filet medallions with 2 jumbo prawns over baby spinach. Tasty but the shrimp were rather small, steak was cooked well but lacked some seasoning. The spinach was great. We got the Black Caramel Brussel Sprouts - delicious, a must have for a side. We ended with the cookie ice cream sliders which were good but the cookies were a bit hard I needed a knife to cut through to eat but overall tasty. My 2 gripes. A Bulleit on the rocks was $20... for roughly a shot of alcohol, cmon that's more than the nicest places in NYC. 2 drinks cost me more than a bottle. 2nd - 3% credit card surcharge. You're charging $56 for an entree, $23 for an app, $20 for a drink but still hitting the customer for another 3%? The extra ~$10 is really the dealbreaker for me here. This is a "5-star" type place, $56 should give you enough profit margin to cover the CC surcharge or just charge $58 and nobody would bat an eye. One of the few five star reviews that I absolutely believe is worth the rating! From the time we entered the door right up until the time we left, the customer service was top notch! Our server, Emmitt, was attentive, courteous and prompt with his response to our needs. He made recommendations, talked knowledgeably about the food and was on top of his game. The food? Delicious! No complaints at all. In fact, it was very filling. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection. The sauteed spinach and mushrooms were great. If you order dessert, get the "tiny dancer!" Loved the setting as well. It never felt crowded, the lighting was perfect...just an overall great experience. And we had the pleasure of meeting the owner, David Burke. It was last Thursday night and we made our first visit to Red Horse. While the restaurant has only been open since like March, it's such a gem! Amazing cocktails, delicious food and ambiance, David Burke himself was even on the premises when we were there. Everything we ordered was really good. Our server, Jacob was very attentive and super helpful with the menu. From the delicious popovers to start, (a must have), to the Duck & Pistachio potstickers, the meal was starting off really well. For entrees I had the Lobster which was very tasty, just not much lobster and a lot of work to find what was there. For $59, it seemed like more of a spicy rice dish and made me think I should have gone with a nice ribeye or strip steak. My friend enjoyed the tuna special and dessert was just out of this world. We had the ice cream sliders, 3 of them and one each was plenty for us. The marshmallow and cherries were my favorite part. The table next to us had the sugared donuts and macaroons which looked very good. The signature bacon appetizer was also a showstopper at other tables throughout the restaurant. All in all, I will definitely be back. Separately upstairs they have a sushi restaurant that looked pretty amazing too. Gotta try that too one day! I'll just let the photos speak for themselves. The Red Horse Steakhouse in Rumson, NJ is phenomenal!!! Tim welcomed us with champagne for our anniversary. Alexis gave us incredible recommendations from the eclectic menu. Seafood Tower and Lobster Dumplings to die for! We had Scallops and Shrimp, seared to perfection, over mushroom risotto. The broth was magnificent. The 22 ounce Ribeye cooked perfectly. One of the best Ribeyes we have ever had...anywhere! Some BIG Super Tuscan to complement dinner. And finished with Vanilla Bean Creme Brûlée with espresso and cappuccino. This place is perfect. Red horse visit this week to enjoy Jersey Shore restaurant week. $40.22 for a 3 course meal. My wife and I always try to explore participating restaurants that we have not dined with during Jersey Shore restaurant week. We have dined with David Burke's Driftwood, Orchard Park and Manhattan. I always enjoy Chef Burke's imaginative menus, his restaurants always offer excellent happy hour deals...the Driftwood being my favorite. The food itself is fantastic, the 20oz Rib Eye which was a $25 up charge is well worth it. Lightly seasoned and cooked perfect. Prime beef, marbled and salted....yum I would never have an issue paying the $70 plus for that steak. The signature popovers are scrumptious as were the salad and shrimp roll appetizer. The French onion mashed potatoes were not as successful. My wife went with the Surf and turf, 2 tremendous shrimp over spinach and Filet Mignon medallions. My wife specified well done on the filet(sinful I know) but it is what it is. The steak was delivered to our table rare, our waitress never came back to check on us. We waited about 10 minutes and we flagged down a waiter who was kind enough to correct it. The issue is I had to wait to eat my meal and when her meal returned the steak was cooked to her specification but the shrimp and spinach were ice cold. As you can imagine my steak was as well because I waited for her dish. I was surprised and my wife was upset. It is what is but for a restaurant of this caliber it should not happen. The waitress did apologize after we mentioned it and that was it. Tiny Dancer was outstanding, chocolate mousse cake with raspberry sauce and grand marnier caramel. It was a very nice dinner but far from perfect. I will likely return for happy hour but I would have a difficult time going back for Dinner based on this experience. read more

We ordered the pri fix dinner, it was supposed to be 50 dollars. When we ordered i went over with the waitress 4 times what we can choose it seemed easy pic the ones with the red mark. When we ordered we said again we are choosing the pre fix and would like the items we pointed to she said good. I had a girl's night out dinner here - firstly, I was so excited that we got a reservation. Secondly, the food is outstanding. Every course was perfect. We started with the clothesline maple bacon - I am huge bacon fan and this thick-cut bacon was cooked to perfection. We also ordered some sushi, all of which was delicious. For my entree, I ordered te Korean BBQ Beef Short Rib, this melted in my mouth. Even the veggies that I usually don't love were marinated in the rib juices - it was everything I wanted. For dessert we got the donuts, this was the right amount for four people - this came with macarons and three different dipping sauces. My favorite one was the caramel sauce. This place has multiple levels and different dining areas there is no bad spot in the house. If fact it's part of the draw that invites you back so you can see more of the wonderful art and decor. With this vast collection of cool art, carousel horses and rock memorabilia there's a level of taste and class that make this place exclusive. Enough about the interior let's just say it's impressive. Entering the restaurant you are warmly and pleasantly greeted and taken to your spot. There's a buzz of dedication from every server, runner, and manager. All smiles and true happiness which gave my companion and I a sense of welcome. The server was sharp, sweet and right to it still being hospitable. She Shepherded us through the menu and gave us plenty of time to decide. We had the lobster puffs and the duck dumplings both are delicious. My girlfriend got the Rumson Surf & Turf which is what I really wanted but we do a thing where we don't normally get the same thing so we can try more of the menu. It looked fabulous but this time she didn't share (lol) she said it was the best Filet she had ever had. I had the Korean Short rib and loved it. Lots of veggies and unusual mushrooms in a dainty (lightly applied) Asian sauce and thick chewy chow fun noodles. I loved it! We don't do dessert often but seeing all the other tables getting ice cream sliders and the cheesecake pops with cotton candy tree we got two of the Tiny Dancer chocolate moose desserts because my girl was not on a sharing mood. So fabulous from the sexy edible legs to the down the the unbelievable chocolate business end. Overall the Red Horse is a must visit and must revisit dining event. This place completely underwhelmed. It has a 5 star dining look with 3 star dining. First off our wine took 30 min to come to our table. The pork chop was juicy but very salty. The hipster fries were soggy. The vegetable fried rice was overcooked and mealy. The onion soup potato gratin was a disaster. I think the Red Horse has an identity crisis. Not sure what type of cuisine this is or what they are going for. The service was also average and everything could be tightened up. I did like that they had complimentary peanut brittle on the hostess stand on the way out. Nice touch. The dessert overall was good. We had the smores ice cream sandwiches and they were well made. I suspect they will be getting some mixed reviews about last night. They had a very bad night down a bartender and two cooks. The server Nadine and manager Tim were totally overwhelmed and put in a very tough situation. Luckily, they were very transparent about the issues and I felt they did the right thing with how they handled the night, at least for us. I have been here once before for brunch and enjoyed it, but I can't comment on their dinner. I will give them another shot based on how they handled what was thrown at them. read more
