We stopped here on the way from DC to PA for a quick and good lunch, and that is exactly what we got from Red Hot & Blue. Our server was prompt, friendly, and attentive and the service was snappy. My husband ordered the fried platter - catfish, shrimp, french fries & hush puppies. The hush puppies were good, which I know because I ate them. I ordered the Smokehouse Salad, which had beef and chicken BBQ on a bed of romaine with corn, cucumbers and tortilla strips. The salad was not great - the meat was awesome, but the salad was little sad. Overall, it was a nice lunch, but next time I would opt for the BBQ (and hush puppies). read more

We've been coming here for awhile, usually a bunch of us on Friday night, it's convenient and the food is OK. The last few times we've been there we get the same waiter no matter where we sit and tonight there was 28 of us and as usual the same waiter tried to wait on all of us without any help even though 8 of us were on the other side of the room. Needless to say it didn't work so I left, no waiter is that good and the place wasn't even half full so I don't know why this guy was trying to be Superman, there were other waiters around. Not trying to spend two hours to eat because the waiter either thinks he's that good, he's not, or he's trying to hog the tips, there are way too many other choices in that part of town. read more

Take Out Guy's is a total douche. Rudest person I've even spoken to on the phone. I have eaten here for over 15 years. The restaurant, and the one in Annapolis, are excellent. The food is superb. But this guy has to go. He represents RH&B, fire him before you loose customers and $$. read more

This is part of a chain, but it doesn't have a "chain" feel at all. For one thing, it's located in Laurel's gentrified "Main Street" neighborhood in a nice brick office complex that was made to look like a block of big old brick houses, bordering on a residential area. Most of the other chains in and around Laurel are your standard neon-topped boxes on the main Route 1 mall drag. Inside, the ambience is like you're eating in a family-run BBQ bar. For another thing, this particular location of Red Hot and Blue doesn't even seem to be featured on the "locator" website for the chain, although every local knows right where it is. I can't speak to all the discussions of ribs on here because I always get either the pulled pork sandwich or pulled pork platter, and sometimes an extra side of baked beans. RH&B's baked beans are the awesomest beans I can get unless I bake 'em myself, and after a hard day at work, who wants to dick around mixing up a can of beans and then waiting an hour for them to properly cook? (And don't go telling me I should be hopping out of bed at 6 am to load up the pressure cooker with 'em either.) As for the pulled pork, it's always been moist for me and though its flavor is pretty mild on its own, that's OK with me as I like to slather it with bbq sauce and I've also been to enough pork-sammie places to know that "it haz a flavor" doesn't always means it has the flavor you want to taste (such as too smokey or too vinegary...yuck). The bread and hush puppies are also decent and really, what more could you want? RH&B also gets big points for its carryout service, which fills orders pretty dern fast (I saw them get four orders done inside of 15 minutes tonight), We've eaten in the restaurant a couple times and that's fine if you have the time to spend, but usually I like to take food home. RH&B carryout is one of the best alternatives to icky fast food in the area. Just be careful with the brown paper bags they use. They may be environmentally friendly, but sauce and meat juice tends to break on through to the other side, so don't set them on your lap or on your upholstery in the car. read more

Its hot as hell outside and I we were hungry after leaving Zanzibar and my girl friend asked what we should eat and of course the first spot to come to mind is Red Hot & Blue. The bbq is on point in my opinion and I rate that high as well as the catfish and the hoochie coochie burger. We both got the lynchburg lemonade that I suggested and she was messed up. To say that this is the best BBQ I've ever had is probably not strong enough. I have been to the national BBQ competition in DC a few times and have tried a lot of pretty good BBQ. This is the shizzle ma jizzle, hands down. Soft tender meat that fall off the bone with a nice crusted outer shell and just the right amount of soft tendon. This is then wrapped in their awesome BBQ sauce that has a great balance between honey, mustard, salt, and a few other ingredients, I'm sure. The other Red Hot & Blue places do not taste like this. Too bad we can't get this in Los Angeles. read more

This is definitely my favorite BBQ restaurant in the area, and I'm a big BBQ fan. I like the fact that they don't have to cover everything in sauce to make it taste good. The Leesburg, VA Red Hot & Blue is fabulous. The food is delicious - the potato salad has a yummy bacony taste, and the BBQ is very good. Not so at the Laurel location. My husband and I visited this Red Hot & Blue Sunday at noon. Maybe this should have clued us in, but we were the only people there. On a Sunday. At lunchtime. We proceeded to order pulled pork. It just didn't have any flavor, apart from the BBQ sauce. Honestly, I can get a way better pulled pork sandwich at Harris Teeter for $2.95. The potato salad, which I relished at the Leesburg location, was just OK. No bacony taste to swoon over. What a disappointment! I won't be visiting this RH&B location again. read more

Maybe our expectations were too high, because we have always had great meals at Red Hot and Blue, but it has been a few years since we had eaten there. We drove 40 miles just to eat dinner. Three of us had ribs ( 2 sweet ribs and 1 dry rub). The ribs were tough and dried out and not very tasty. Mac and cheese looked like it was 2 days old and the french fries were crispified. The 4th member of our group had the brisket and chicken combination. None of us ate half of our orders. We also asked for the sourdough breadsticks. Evidently they do not offer these anymore, because we got 4 loaves of white bread. The only edible item was the onion ring appetizer. read more

I love the way they cook their fries and I always get a side of ranch to dip them in. The staff at the carry out is nice. I went in with a friend on a busy Friday night and ordered chicken strips. Sad to say, that they were served under cooked. Not so undercooked as to be completely raw, but undercooked enough that I spent two hours after leaving the restaurant evacuating my bowels. My friend did the same. When I attempted to speak to the manager, Bob, about the level of doneness of my wings, he stated that since I ate them all, I wasn't entitled to a free meal. I can understand this and I did make the choice to eat them even though they were slightly undercooked, but I was just hoping to let him know that the kitchen was putting out food that shouldn't be served to customers. I wasn't looking for a free meal. Overall, the food is actually fairly decent, as long as it's cooked all the way. Also, if you do decide to eat here, please tip your servers. They are being paid less than minimum wage and the tips are supposed to bring the hourly wage above minimum wage. If a server does a good job, he/she deserves at least a standard tip, which is approaching 20% in the US. Don't be cheap because you don't feel like tipping, Getting stiffed on a $300 table is ludicrous. read more
