Getting some of the Friday special.
    Erick D.

I heard about this place from a friend. I had driven quite a bit and didn't know this place was right under my nose. They're currently running a Friday take out special. The first special I heard about was the Hot Chicken sandwich. I was disappointed to have missed out on that one, but I couldn't eat meat that day. This week's special was meatloaf with mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes, roasted veggies and a chocolate mousse. I arrived a few minutes prior to my pick up time. The way the pick up was set up wasn't too clear so I had several people asking me about pick up. My order was put together on time and handed to me. I asked if everything was in there including plasticware and I was told yes. I should have checked, but it wasn't in there. The mousse was well prepared, but poorly packaged as more of the whipped cream ended up on the lid than the mousse. They could have put the same quantity in a larger container as they did with the other dishes. The meatloaf was good, but not the best I've ever had. Restaurant or takeout meatloaf is a challenge because you don't really want pooling grease, but you also want to avoid dry meat loaf. This wasn't dry, but it wasn't moist. It missed the window slightly. The portion size is generous for the price. This was a good meal at a good price. I'm thankful they're doing a cool take out in the Social Distantancing time.

Raymond was great! He made us some great drinks and the food was delicious. Atmosphere was relaxing and great place to catch up with friends.

Cool mid-century interior has more integrity than other neo-50's designs we've seen.

They've kept this daring place alive through the pandemic & quality is excellent! The menu is small, well thought out with fresh ingredients. Eating here is a lesson in local and regional foods! Loved the fresh fresh fresh corn tortillas. The burger was very tasty, without being too fatty. The Chipotle aioli was great and I usually don't like any heat in my salsas. Outstanding and uniquely cut fries, with the right blend of crispy exterior and soft insides. Salad so crispy, like farm fresh. We chose a chipotle ranch. A real hub, this place. I hope it endures. Fine, friendly staff, all working hard, but generous with their time, if you ask, but you gotta ask.

I have visited The Red Lounge several times. I love the vibe there. The food and drinks are fantastic. My last visit occurred during Sonoran Restaurant week. Me and my girlfriends had an amazing evening there. Starting with the menu... we tried the masa pretzels, Chile relleno con carne, and for dessert we had the monsoon pavlova. There was live music which was lovely and there were several businesses set up and selling their products; I gladly supported them and purchased a few pieces of jewelry. An absolute gem of an evening.

I've visited quite a few times over the last year as well as done take-out. They've revised the menu several times since opening. With the current menu focused on Sonoran food it feels like they've finally hit their stride and found what speaks of their brand as well. The Clifton Burger is absolutely one of the best burgers I've had in town. Seriously. Order it. You won't regret it. Recently we tried the Roasted Poblano, Guajillo Pasta, Carne Asada Tacos, Queso Fries and Salad. Everything was delicious. It's a feast for the eyes as well as the taste buds. The Roasted Poblano dish was just beautiful. I wanted to sit and stare at it as much as I wanted to eat it. Full bar with a couple of beers on draft and some local So Az wine options. Craft cocktails are def a specialty. They are locally owned and support local as well. When it comes to restaurants located inside a hotel these guys set the bar HIGH. Wait, scratch that, they simply set the bar high regardless of where they are located. The food and drinks are outstanding and could easily be in any high end restaurant in town.

I just ordered the BLT online and walked over to pick it up, it's about two blocks from my apt, I only waited about 3-5 minutes if that and it was still primarily warm when I got home. The fries with soggy, there were well seasoned and delicious! The BLT was A1, with fresh lettuce, a plethora of delicious bacon and juicy tomatoes. I might just get another one tomorrow!

We went in last night for Sonoran Restaurant Week - this is a meal that I'll remember for a long time! We were completely impressed! The space is super cozy and intimate. Our service from Matt was absolutely the BEST! He checked on us every few minutes, and even sat at our table with and just chatted for a few minutes. We started with a pecan salad and a Aguachili Amarillo - a ceviche with corvina - it was spicy in the most perfect way! There thinly sliced jalapenos and cilantro, it was bursting with flavor! Next we had the sirloin with masa - a beautiful plate on top of masa coated in flavor - salsa and bean, cabbage - just WOW!!! Cooked to perfection and flavors galore! The mesquite bean ice cream was exquisite - soo smooth with subtle flavors, I could have eaten 3 bowls. These were perfect dishes for Sonoran week because of all of the local ingredients that were carefully used, it was something really unique, and out the 5 restaurants that we tried for restaurant week - this was far and above the best!!

There was a time when the idea of fish tacos was "eh" at best then having had Chef Nico's fish tacos at the Red Light Lounge everything changed. The tacos were perfectly crisp, seasoned to perfection and dreamy. Have had numerous fish tacos since that encounter with Chef Nico's fish tacos and not one has come even close to what he has created. His entire menu is fresh, innovative takes on classics such as buffalo wings with cotija and a cilantro lime aioli. A decadent and delicious Indian Fry Bread and even salads packed with Southwest flavor. The only regret is having not made it back in yet to try the newly launched breakfast menu. Grab a spicy margarita and some fish tacos next time you're around and thank us later.

This may have been one of the best Sonoran-inspired brunches I've ever had! We ate here after staying overnight in The Downtown Clifton, its funky hotel home, but would gladly visit again just for the food. Stone-ground masa biscuits with homemade prickly pear hibiscus jam and orange marmalade were huge and fluffy, with incredible depth of flavor from the masa. For our main dishes we had chilaquiles - an amazing dish of chips softened and layered in red chile sauce and topped with pork, crema, avocado, pico de gallo and cotija cheese - and the sumptuous verde eggs benedict, with more green chile pork, corn salsa, and pickled peppers. Perfect balance of flavors, textures, and freshness all around!

It's a fun and also elegant atmosphere with the zebra theme clearly exemplified across the space. I would have to say this is one of the coziest bars I've been to, the furniture and seating is really supportive of a long-term visit. There are other levels, lower and an upper level besides the main space, but be aware that if there are parties, they can typically take up different areas. Our bartender, Sarah was fantastic! The way that she handled all of the guests and the busy field was incredible, so calm and collected, and furthermore making some really incredible drinks. Heads up that the online drink menu is not the current drink menu, I couldn't remember all the names of our drinks and put those in the photo captions, so when I checked on the website, the menu was showing something different other than what I saw at the bar. Out of several places I've been to, I'd say the mixture of flavors and details in the drinks are quite unique. I'll be back for more one day

We'd heard good things about this place and have been trying to support local downtown bars this summer, so we stopped in around 11 on a Friday night before heading home. As we sat down, we watched the bartender be pretty dismissive toward another group at the bar, so we were already a little unsure. We started talking about the decor because we liked the eclectic vibe. We jokingly pointed out that one of the pictures had a joint instead of a cigarette because someone in our group hadn't noticed. One of the bartender's first comments back, completely seriously, was, "I'm from San Diego. Have you never seen art before?" Honestly... what? It was such a weird, unnecessarily condescending response. I brushed it off at first as awkward banter, but it was a really strange first impression. The drinks were decent. The Loverlist was really good, and the Unicorn Fluff and Old Fashioned were fine. The bartender was quick to talk up their whiskey selection, but when we asked for a recommendation, she mostly gave reasons why she couldn't recommend anything and just kept saying they had "over 90 different options." Without a whiskey menu to look through, that wasn't especially helpful. We also asked for a shooter and were offered half of a cocktail instead. That would've been totally fine on its own, but combined with everything else, the service just never felt welcoming. We ended up leaving pretty quickly. I'd give the place another shot because the atmosphere is fun and has a lot of potential, but hopefully with a different bartender behind the bar.

I enjoy some challenging textures and flavors for the sake of experiences. What I tried over 2.5 hours: -Nixtamalized Barrel cactus fruit aged in ash with chiltepin jam and chiltepin leaves preserved in vinegar. I liked it- sweet and smokey. The barrel fruit was a tad fibrous. -Refried tepary beans with wolfberry and a green powder of globe mellow salsa verde. The powder was tart and yummy. The tepary beans tasted fairly simple. The dried cactus was nice- reminded me of kale chips. The tortillas of my friend's omni menu were very soft and pliable. -Yakitori: Barrel cactus fruit with candied Tohono O'odham Ha:l Squash, mesquite tare and marinated cholla buds reduction from last year's cholla, topped with jojoba seeds. This was a fave. -Maitake with corn rib and desert botanical bonchons. I thought the name might have referred to Banchan, the small Korean side plates of kimchi etc since there was kimchi in one of the bites on the plate but it was spelled Bonchon, "my hometown" in Korean. The heirloom corn vegemite bite was umami as expected. The snail shaped amaranth leaves white kimchi bite was tart, bold and delicious. The corn rib bite was topped with pickled yucca bud pieces on top- I loved getting to try that and loved the flavor and texture of it. A sunflower head "brisket" bite was really interesting and I enjoyed the brisket flavoring that was achieved here. The texture felt fitting for it too and it seemed clever. Likely a challenging bite for some with the flower flavors and texture in the end. The amaranth dumpling bite was filled with something else made from amaranth I didn't catch. The last bite of this plate was the Maitake mushroom with palo verde- delish. -Raw Nopal with preserved amaranth pico de gallo with agave pulque -blackened agave frozen granita with pico de gallo and pressed coriander ironwood emulsion. Vinegary and refreshing- Big hit. -Kaiseki: cactus bud, three sisters stew, cowpea and ironwood blossom. We were also given a complimentary Non- Alcoholic beverage with it: a chilled palo verde Pu-erh fermented tea. It had a light fizzy feel. LOVED the drink and it balanced the saltiness of the stew. The broth that the waiter added to the stew at the table was overly salted but the stew was good and was more filling than the other dishes so far. I liked the meaty texture of the ironwood flower. This course came with a tostada topped with refried tepary beans and prickly pear tunas and with young cactus in salt bush emulsion. -Wolfberry sorbet- served beautifully. Very sweet and single note. The waiter said the wolfberries on top were pickled and I wish I tasted pickled flavor because it would have provided balance. I tried my companions roasted Huuñ Ga'i sherbet with kombucha soaked corn and preserved amaranth flowers and enjoyed it more than the wolfberry sorbet. -Wildflowers-Cactus sorbet with frosted amaranth leaves and cactus marmalade. I would have enjoyed it more if it didn't come right after the overly sweet wolfberry sorbet. It was more balanced but I really was sweetened-out. It had some medicinal notes but was interesting. I liked the cactus marmalade pieces. I like the leaves that were super crispy but some were heavily frosted with sugar. I LOVED my companion's Wildflowers dessert. It was a warm miso cake with mesquite, brittlebush curd and cactus marmalade. The mesquite really came through here wonderfully. -Pimachata: Candied squash and aerated squash. Was craving something savory now but luckily this one was less sweet and more balanced. My companion seemed to enjoy her goat cheese ice cream. With the check, came two sticks with mesquite gummies.I love mesquite but this again was a tad too sweet now. The least positive part for me was the service. I was surprised that a place with a focus of introducing people to food of the desert they might not know about would not have the servers engage when someone seems very interested, like me. No written menu/ description was given during the meal and I tried my best to write down notes as the waiter was listing the descriptions extremely quickly in a rehearsed way without engaging with us and without slowing down much when asked. I asked for an extra note card and he gave me a blank receipt. The most confusing part was that they ended up bringing us a printed menu with the dishes listed when we finished the full meal. We were so flabbergasted as to why he wouldn't mention it was coming when I was writing notes or even better provided it at the start. It felt that the servers were very focused on doing a rehearsed part instead of engaging meaningfully. I was very happy with my pay-what- you-wish experience and I experienced all of this like art viewing. So cool getting to try so many local desert plants!

The staff also were kind enough to move one of our chairs out of the way so our dog had lots of room to lay down. Staff were all very kind and never seemed annoyed with the dog (you can always tell at a restaurant if they are, and they were very happy to accommodate him). Very dog friendly!! The food: We gotta talk about their French onion soup. It was pretty dang delicious! The broth itself is quite nice, a nice cheese portion, and the baguette was divine. I also had their French Connection sandwich (with a side of fries), and it had a great combo of ooey, gooey cheese, firm and flavorful ham, and served on a really delicious loaf.
