This is my favorite joint in Tucson. I love coming here every thursday for the delicious food and entertaining karaoke. The DJs always know how to liven up the room and the singers are always a fun show to watch. My favorite thing to eat here are the fat bottomed tots and the garlic honey she's got legs (chicken wings). The drinks are just as good, I love the alien secretion shot and the cherry limeade it is one of my girlfriends favorite drinks. It's very cozy and can get very loud, It's always an amazing time here. I'm surprised I don't see this place recommended more in the foodie groups I'm in. I hadn't been to Bumsteds since they were on 4th ave but I was driving by and stopped for lunch. The prices are very reasonable. I chose half of the Anything for Love meatloaf sandwich without bread and it comes with choice of side. All of this for $11! That's hard to beat, and cheaper than fast food. The portion of meatloaf was easily 8 oz. The dining room was closed for lunch so I sat at the bar area, which is fun and dive-y. A fun spot for brunch, a drink or a good meal to go! I saw they even offer cake now! I grabbed a tater tot meal to go for brunch and service was quick and friendly. The tastiest most loaded brunch meal I've had in a while, with fresh ingredients like avocado and salsa and mushrooms on top of my omelet and tots. We are always going to give the karaoke at Bumstead 100 out of 100. I have not tried the food. They have nonalcoholic beer, which is nice. I love that you can step outside if you need to change your body temperature and or smoke. Everybody was very nice and service was quick. read more

I got kind of weird vibes from this place but it came highly recommend by my boyfriend who used to come here all the time when it was located on 4th avenue. I think they moved for a larger location but it's definitely more out of the way than it used to be. We arrived at about 6pm on Wednesday evening and the bar was fairly busy but the restaurant side was practically empty. I think there was one other couple and that's it. Service was prompt but the waiter seemed like he was stoned. Again weird vibes from him too. I got the half order of the Who's Your Daddy hoagie sandwich and a side salad with ranch. The hoagie was a bit dry (not enough mayo) and it was cold towards the bottom even though it's supposed to be served hot. The cheese on top was not melted all the way. The side salad and ranch were very tasty. Bonus points for what seemed like house made crutons. Overall it wasn't amazing but it wasn't horrible either. Just your typical place for American style food. With so many other options in the area I don't know if I will come back anytime soon. read more

Margaret was the best ever waitress ever. Funny, attentive, had a great conversation. No stars of the show. Portions are HUGE!! The food and the drinks are marvelous!! The Fruit Cocktail Drink has real fruit in it. You can tell it has been infused for awhile. The Bloody Mary has the Hot and Sticky Sauce which also comes as a sauce for the Chicken Fried Meatloaf. Incredible. The meatloaf is the absolute best and next level when its chicken fried. The wings were cooked well. Wish they were seasoned prior or after they came our the fryer. The food is fantastic, although we can never get anything but the Meatloaf dinners. It is the best I have ever had, except for mine...well, maybe... but the serving is gigantic and the sides are great as well. You can share,which is what we do. Love that I finally tried this Tucson hidden gem! The diner in the front is super cute and the staff was helpful and attentive. I tried their famous meatloaf and opted for the chicken fried version of the Bad Attitude and it was tasty - the mushrooms were cooked perfectly and the meatloaf was delicious. The only thing that would have made it better was a bit more horseradish mayo. The Styx pretzels are AMAZING I loved the cheese sauce (didn't try the gravy because I'm not a gravy fan). Lots of parking in the back and a cute bar on the other side of the building if you want to grab a drink. Will be back again to keep trying new stuff from their gigantic menu! read more

We were at an event at U of A and decided to give Bumsted's a try for breakfast. The restaurant part was closed so we were seated in the bar, which was fine. It was a typical local bar feel, which we love. There was only one bartender and he was the waiter as well. Communication was a challenge and some things didn't make it to our table we asked for and some were wrong. He was not really familiar with the menu when we asked questions. But I'm thinking he is the bartender and doesn't really serve food. My husband ordered the "any cock a doodle do" he really enjoyed it and the jalapeño sausage gravy was a hit. I ordered the cinnabum which was just basic French toast. I also got the peppered bacon, I wasn't a fan but others liked it. Breakfast was a typical dinner breakfast, nothing blew our minds. Today I experienced the most delicious sandwich that I have ever eaten! Bumsted's menu is extensive, and you need to read the sandwich descriptions because every sandwich has an intriguing name. My choice today was "Anything for Love": a thick hunk of incredible meatloaf on a choice of bread (I chose marbled rye) with a mouthwatering sauce and caramelized onions, with a generous side dish. (I had the sweet potato fries.) This was washed down with a huge glass of tropical rum punch with 5 or 6 kinds of fruit including pineapple and lychee nuts... practically a meal in itself! My husband had a ginormous club sandwich on sourdough which he thoroughly enjoyed. Neither of us had room for dessert, but maybe next time, as the desserts sound pretty amazing. I can't wait to go back and try some of their other sandwiches since they all sound good. Our waitress April was charming and very accommodating. We ate in the bar area as the main dining room was closed at lunchtime, but I took a peek through the window and it has a classic retro coffee shop vibe. Maybe we'll go back when they're having karaoke, but we will definitely be back for the food which I would give more than 5 stars if I could! read more

This place was recommended by my husband's employee. Her family loved it, so we got curious, cause my husband was intrigued by the menu, the food combination is different. We went on a Saturday morning it just opened and place is practically empty. Server was not friendly and accommodating. She was working by herself and you can see the table and chairs are dirty. Restaurants should not have traces of food from the previous night or day of service, if staff is really doing their job. There's a lot of downtime for cleaning, for they are not busy. Anyway, the food is okay, but not as great. Although they give you a huge portion. Drinking cups and utensils doesn't look as clean. I don't know if I will be coming back to this place. I got food poisoning from their "garlic parm" wings which ended up being oilier than someone who hasn't showered in months. Didn't have any garlic, didn't have any parm. Now I've been throwing up nonstop and my stomach feels so weird. They have karaoke but don't expect them to put your song on fast as they keep queuing the songs of the workers there or their very obvious regulars. I came to Bumbsted and arrived on the dinner side which had a fun dinner vibe however wasn't quite the most hospitable. As we were informed of the bar side we immediately were intrigued. The other side felt more our vibe and the bartender had a fun engaging personality that kept me on my toes. Food was tasty as the burger was a solid 8/10 however the fries were to rave home about. What can I say, but "what is love?" Like the song says. Always great food, friendly staff and a lot of fun. I go to Lady Ha Ha here regularly and eat here pretty regularly. I was a big fan of Bumsted's at their old location, they had phenomenal desserts and I got their desserts every time I was in town. I am so glad they are back and the desserts and pricing seem to be the same as they were in the past. I stopped in 2 times while I was there for 3 days. The brownie was a little smaller than before but very reasonable price $5 or $6 and that same great cream cheese frosting. They are some of the best brownies that you can find. The Neapolitan cake was ginormous and only $10 and tastes great. Nice looking but tastes great too. But my favorite is the giant peanut butter cup, I had 3 of them. They are only $5 or $6. I have ordered 10-15 at a time to take back to San Diego to give to my coworkers as a special treat, and to friends and family around holidays. Everybody loves them. I also tried a cake pop, it was ok. I don't remember the price, maybe $2-3. I will not get that again. I am so happy they are back open and I will be getting desserts from them every time that I am in Tucson. Next time I will try some things off their regular menu to see if there sandwiches and other items are still as good as they were in the past. The people are all friendly and helpful. We stopped in because we stayed at the hotel next door. They had an interesting drink menu and an extensive food menu, with lots of items with fun names. My sandwich was called Petunia it was basically a b.l.t. with cream cheese and jalapenos, I got it with sweet potato fries, it was pretty good. The server/bartender was named Kayla, she was really sweet, plus she was an amazing singer as they have karaoke there often. Karaoke was good for people watching! So we had breakfast 3 times at the diner on the other side, thought it went by a different name and I was going to review separately. The breakfasts were great, again with fun names. Food- bacon was not cooked for sandwich. Not just limp, but concerningly undercooked. Requested fries to be extra crispy, unfortunately they were not even warm. Ambiance- the kitchen was playing Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister, and the like. The karaoke bar ( which can be heard quite clearly in the restaurant) was more of a No Doubt, Celine Dion vibe. The notes some of the singers tried to hit were - well let's just say thank god for alcohol. Service- Waiter was very distracted, when he made it to the table he was nice. I had constantly visited their original Location on 4th, as it was one of my favorite places to go. Since they closed and moved a few years ago, I had not gone to their new location until this past weekend. And I must say, it has the same amazing and delightful flavors as always with friendly and nice employees as they had in the past. It felt as if time had not passed. I was so excited to go back to Bumsteads but nervous not knowing if it would be just as I remembered, and I was not disappointed. My husband LOVES the Disco Inferno sandwich, it was always his favorite. Coming back with the same yummy food and friendly people brought back so many memories. I used to get a cheesecake slice that they would make cream Brule style on the spot back in their old location, but due to all the excitement and amount of food we got there was no room left. We arrived at opening on a Saturday. I gather there is a breakfast side and a "bar" side to this venue. (Thus the really mixed reviews!) We were on the breakfast side. I love the colorful accents of lighting and chairs - it just brightened my morning! It was our first time, so even though the menu is not huge, the creative names of each dish just made me want to read everything! I gathered our server was either the manager or the owner - he was a hoot - it took him a few minutes to warm up to us, but then we were totally engaged. I had the breakfast entree with chicken-fried chicken (the name escapes me something like "any cock a doodle will do"). It was delicious! The chicken was tender and juicy, fried beautifully into strips. The side potatoes were great, and my eggs were cooked perfectly to order. The meal lasted me for most of the day! The Hubbs ordered a breakfast bowl with their meatloaf, and he loved it! A huge portion - the leftovers made a second meal! They kept the coffee coming, and service was fast.
