My granddaughter and I were evacuated from our home in Spokane, WA during the Old Trails fire and spent 7 nights at the Red Lion Inn Templins in Post falls. We have 2 cats and we're having a problem finding a hotel that would take them. The Red Lion Inn Templins in Post Falls allowed us to bring them and didn't charge an extra fee. They also gave us a discount on our room since we were affected by the fires. The whole staff was wonderful and very accommodating. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfy. The food at the restaurant was good and it was nice to be able to walk around the river when you wanted to get out of the room. There were a lot of people staying at the hotel from Spokane who had to leave their homes. Everyone I talked to was blown away by how great everyone who worked there treated us. A special thanks to Nataya who checked us in the first night. It was pretty crazy with all the people that showed up at the same time but she handled it great and was very kind and professional. Also want to give a shout out to Conrad who was our server at the restaurant. We really enjoyed visiting with him and, like everyone else there, he was very kind and welcoming. So hear me out. This hotel can definitely use some love. It is old and the finishings leave a lot to be desired. Its not the Hilton by any means, but if you go into it knowing thats not what you are going to get, it isn't completely terrible. With that being said the service was awesome, the staff is attentive and helpful. They have a decent resturant with a beautiful view of the river. We did get a river view room, but that view was on the bottom floor and was very limited. I would normally be disappointed in this, but the room was large enough to place our e-bikes in and still have plenty of room, this was more of a priority than the view. If you do want a nice view of the river make sure you ask for a room on the second or third floor. The beds are also incredibly comfortable and I slept really well, my only compaint was the patio lights that were a bit bright, but I slept so hard I hardly noticed. So in conclusion, I went into the hotel an unimpressed sceptic and left relaxed after an awesome trip to the hiawatha trail and a comfortable hotel to land in. The people were nice and the food at the restaurant is pretty good. Everything else is...meh. It's an old property that they have tried to update, but did the bare minimum. The rooms are completely average. The bed was so so. The window shade did not go up or down; the chain was stuck. The TV didn't work consistently. I had to unplug and replug the HDMI cable every time I turned it on. The most frustrating thing was this: I stayed here for a week and, on Tuesday I requested housekeeping. Front desk said sure. Returned at the end of the day, housekeeping never showed up. Same thing again on Thursday, housekeeping never showed up. Towels piled up in the bathroom and empty shampoo and soap. I've stayed here a few times now because it's the only acceptable hotel in Post Falls, but I'm rethinking my desire to be close to family and considering booking in CdA next time. It's a little longer drive, but the hotels are at least more typically maintained. The good: The room smelled clean and had fully stocked towels etc. microwave and small fridge included. The walls are clean, the bed was comfortable enough. The bad: No coffee maker in the room, so instead I'm walking all the way to the lobby first thing in the morning and carrying burning hot cups of coffee back to my room. Are you kidding? Queen beds come with three pillows. If you're sleeping two to a bed you need four. Small tv, bar soap, had to ask for toiletries after day 1, everything here feels dated. I had a most unpleasant experience with this hotel's receptionist Miss B. My son's phone was not working, and I had to call the hotel to get ahold of him. I asked to be transferred to him and gave the reception my son's room number and his name. Miss B refused to transfer me citing some sort of domestic violence, in what I am assuming is her life (only reason I didn't include her name in this review). While I am truly sorry for whatever she has gone through, at the end of the day it is not my issue and makes no sense whatsoever for this particular circumstance. She told me to call my son's cell phone, which I had already explained did not work. Long story short, she refused to transfer me, she would not put me on hold and call up to my son's room to verify that she could transfer me (which I thought was a reasonable request). THEN proceeded to tell me she was "glad that she wasn't transferring me"! Who says that to someone??!! What if there was an emergency?! I asked her for her name, which she gave me. When I asked for the manager's name and number, she hung up on me!! My son did call me for a different reason shortly after.., and I asked if this Miss B. had relayed the message that I called (I was assuming that was why he was calling me).. and to my surprise he said she had not!!! I'm sorry, but she is an employee, and every experience is a marketing experience for the hotel. Who is this woman to decide that she isn't going to connect me to my child, who is only staying there while he is in training. Unbelievable! I did have my son get the name, number and email for the hotel management. I have already written to them about this unpleasant experience. I'm really just in awe that this Miss B not only rudely represented her place of employment, but didn't deliver the message that I even called!!! It is an older property, and it shows. But it's okay for a getaway, when you get one of their jetted tub rooms. And the location really is amazing on the river. One thing to know is the building is really long, so simple things like grabbing coffee in the morning is a hike, depending where your room is. They have a restaurant on the premises, but it wasn't open the night we stayed. I loved the sunken spa in our room and used it several times during our overnighter. Our hotel room smells like smoke and mold. It is run down. Rooms should be going for $79.99 per night. Missing carpet patches, doors that don't fit properly (we can see outside through door edges when door is closed), broken crooked curtains, dark and dingy. The room smells so bad I could hardly sleep here. I was worried turning on the old air conditioner due to legionnaires or some bacteria that it could be harboring. The internet is also terrible! You can't watch YouTube without the screen being completely pixelated and buffering every minute or so. Coffee in the morning at 5am was not fresh. Old and actually cold from the night before. Why do you promote "breakfast included in price", then have multiple signs to limit how much your guests eat AND still have a tip jar? Absolutely Disgusted, building reflects little to no pride of ownership. Dirty and serious lack of maintenance. Understaffed and of what few are there only two (bartender and daytime desk agent) seemed to care and offer good guest service. No coffee in the rooms. The do not offer daily housekeeping it on request or every 3 days. We requested housekeeping from the night desk our second night as we had gone through our towels and shower supplies and in the morning again contacted one of the housekeepers and she assured my wife the room would be cleaned, she even flipped the latch to hold the door open as her cart was in front of the room. We left for the local theme park and we're gone all day to return finding the door still propped open and the room hadn't been touched. This was very concerning as I travel with a firearm but felt I shouldn't leave it in the car Atari's theme park so along with several other valuables it was left in our room which was left insecure all day by housekeeping. The next day we spent time sight seeing and after a long day we went to the pool and hot tub. This area was dirty and smelled. Missing light covers and peeling paint also seemed to be a theme. Hot tub was actually a very cool tub I stepped on a intake cover laying on the bottom of the tub and scratched my foot after a few minutes the jets stopped and we couldn't get the timer to start them again, boy reported the heated pool to be cold with a capital C To top it the day we left I used the public restroom adjacent to the lobby and over priced restaurant only to find a divider leaning up against a urinal If We ever return to the area we will not even consider the Red Lion at Templins read more

Black mold 3" strip across the bottom of bathroom door No safety bars in tub which is really high to step over. NOT CLEAN, carpets are filthy. If it were not for the excellent location this place would never have a return guest. City health dept should take a Quick Look at this dump. We reserved the room on orbitz and it wasn't what we expected, it appears the hotel is being remodeled and the dish network even doesn't work properly and with the internet hooked up to the tv it appears to lag off and on. What a sham. I got took for the price i paid. The room has significant damage to the door and all around, there is no coffee creamer, and the tv remote does not work. The rate I paid was not discounted at all, so imagine my surprise when I learned that breakfast was an additional fee of $13 despite breakfast being an amenity, and late check out was one hour later and had a fee too. We do not recommend this hotel. We thought what a great hotel along the river. What great views. Well the pool was closed, someone threw up in it we were told. Not covid. The dinner menu was limited and over priced. The room next door was smoking and it came up through the middle door between rooms. We did not know them. The odor from the cigarettes was so bad we had to shut the bathroom door. Our room got charged a smoking rate. My wife smoked OUTSIDE, as was required. When we left I told the front desk about the room next to us and their smoking issues. They kept no record of my complaint. I spoke to the manager and the hotel management several times after our stay to say smoking was done by their standard, outside. After numerous calls they were going to give me some credit for the overcharge. It never happened. I called three more times to say, hey, you forgot to give me the credit. They stopped returning my calls. I did not use any colorful language or make any threats. It was only after 10 calls talking to people and waiting over two months I am now asking for a total refund when I have received such poor customer service and for being double charged. We got there right after "summer season" so the kayak and paddle board rentals was closed, but to be honest, we didn't know about it in advance, so we didn't really miss anything. Great view of the river from the indoor swimming pool room. Clean laundry room (chores even on vacation). The entire experience at this hotel was magical due to Maddie who worked the front desk (other staff encountered (including one of the owners) wasn't nearly as friendly but could have been a bad day for them). While we understand that every hotel is short staff right now, she went above and beyond to make our stay incredible. There were some hiccups with breakfast not being available due to staffing issues and a few other small housekeeping items but I believe we would definitely stay here again. Beautiful views, Close to everything, and just a short driving distance to many trails and parks. I would definitely give Maddie 5 stars. As far as the overall hotel.... I'd say 3.5 stars and the buffet breakfast would get a 1 star as it mostly did the job it was supposed to and fed the kids. read more

Oh my! Where to begin!! To start, let's be clear that the condition of this hotel is something that has been developing long before covid. It was evident there must be a staff shortage but the issues we encountered appear to be longstanding. Our stay was mid July 2021. This hotel, that charged us over $200 a night, with a discount, for a tiny, dirty room facing an equally dirty parking lot was the first issue. The non-smoking room was small, the carpet was very dirty, most everything was covered in dust, there was mold in the bathroom, tape stuck on the walls, stained bedding and smelled musty. The room had maintenance issues like the bathroom door stain peeling, gouges in the walls and the yellowed with age bathroom vent covered in yellow condensation drip stains. The hotel offered no information on their hotel and the amenities. No book or printout letting you know what they had available, where anything was, hours of the restaurant, pool, etc. So, after we arrived, we decided to wander around to see what there was to see and do. Asked the front desk where the pool was located. The most the desk person could muster was, "it's below the lobby." No offering of directions of how to get there or hours. When we ask she told us the pool closed at 10pm but did not tell us that it actually stayed open until 11pm for those 18 and over per their signs in the pool area. The pool signs also state you must shower before entering the pool or hot tub but there is no evidence of a shower in the pool area. We had to search for the shower, which was in the restroom outside of the pool area. The entire pool area is pretty filthy. The windows are dirty. The pool deck has not seen a scrubbing in years by the amount of dirt accumulated around the edges. When we went to check out the pool area, someone has taken several pool noodles and torn them apart and scattered the pieces everywhere- it took them 3 days to clean that up. Someone left a beer glass on the table in there (no drinks are allowed) but it remained on that table for 3 days as well. The garbage can was overflowing and as of day 4, it was still overflowing. The pool room smelled moldy and musty. It appeared the hot tub hasn't had a thorough cleaning in years. All over the hotel there were clear signs of neglect, lack of maintenance and cleaning. The horrific lobby furniture (someone needs an interior designer) was dirty and stained. The room window screens were torn and dirty, garbage on the ground, outside garbage cans overflowing. There is a dilapidated rope fence on the path down to the marina that has the posts broken and laying on the ground with the rope. Dirty pool towels strewn everywhere on the grounds near the swimming area. Not freshly dropped towels but towels that had been sitting there for days at least. It does seem they are "renovating" rooms but to shove old carpet up against the window facing out front of the hotel looks so tacky. Overall, it is a sad, depressing place that overcharges for what they offer. I can't even fathom how a manager or owner can look at what they are doing there and think they are providing a great experience. The fact that is on the river does not in anyway warrant their prices. The river view and access is limited. The swimming area is okay but there is a much larger, nicer park on the other side of the river near there that is much better. The pros- Water pressure was great, the beds were comfortable. There are several good places to eat within walking distance. (Their restaurant is very overpriced for what you get.) They do provide an iron and ironing board, microwave and fridge. Of note- no coffee makers in the rooms. They do offer coffee in the lobby. On day 2 they ran out of sweetener and my husband let them know they were out and needed to replenish. On day 4, they still had not replenished the coffee supplies. For the money, stay elsewhere. We would have but we were stuck. We will never go back. Probably one the worst hotel stays we have had and probably the most expensive! Photos only show a fraction of the problems. read more

This used to be a destination. Now, it must be a tax write-off for Red Lion, and it is really sad. First, the bads. It doesn't look like any money is spent on maintenance inside or outside other than what is needed to keep it in business. For example, none of the furniture or decor in our room matched. We got the Double Jetted Tub Suite, but it was just an over-large room with the jacuzzi, bed, bureau and TV, and desk and chair. The TV was too small to be seen well from the bed and in the wrong place to be seen from the jacuzzi. Besides, the remote didn't work. The bed was hard, pillows small and lumpy, and sheets thin. There was a bar with small sink, cupboards and drawers, small fridge, and tiny microwave; no coffeemaker. The water in the sink didn't work. The bathroom was fine, but the toilet paper and tissues were the cheapest, and although toiletries were included, they were only ok. The bathroom door itself had lost the paper veneer along the bottom and sides, and its particle board construction was starting to break down. I noticed that every hotel room door had scuffs, scrapes, and poorly patched holes. When checking in, nobody was around, and it took 15 minutes to find anyone to check us in. The decor in the lobby was tired and out of date. Some of the windows in the restaurant, which looked out on the river, were cloudy and should have been replaced. Last, their debit machine was so slow that it couldn't register the charge, so we gave them our credit card. Turns out, they ended up charging us twice; once on credit and once on debit. A week later we are still trying to get hold of the person who can reverse one of the charges. Now the goods. The room was clean, the jacuzzi worked well and was clean. The bathroom had a hairdryer, and I loved the black soap. The restaurant had a great chef. We had the Prime Rib dinner special with grilled asparagus, mashed potatoes, and rolls. Although we paid extra to add a dinner salad, it and the rest of the meal were excellent with great views of the river. The bartenders made two very good Bloody Ceasars. The free coffee in the lobby was rich, dark, and strong; just the way I like it. We paid $271 for a so-so room with no real place to sit, but great food. You decide if it's worth it. read more

Excellent customer service! a special shoutout to Robert, Gary and Madeline, front desk clerks, who are some of the hardest working employees I've ever seen. sadly, they are way overworked which is due to staff shortage, as explained to me by Red Lion's sales manager. Yes, even the sales manager pulled away from his job to come down and help the front desk. The teamwork is remarkable. A clean, beautiful place with reasonable prices, spectacular views and kind staff just can't be beat. I highly recommend this place to all and I won't stay anywhere else when I visit. First off this place is under construction. Does not say anything on their website, or any website. We booked through hotels. Com app. We were given the handicap room. The room was spacious for two adults and a newborn. Room 206 was our room. Be careful of the door to the bathroom, it got jammed, and took a minute to get it to work. We did not close that door the rest of the time. Convenient for unloading the vehicle, but no views other than parking lot, shipping containers, and a lot of landscaping being redone. Counter people were professional and friendly. Hopefully this place looks great after the construction. read more

I stayed here for two nights with my dog. The lower level on the water side has a big, semi-fenced, grassy area and a door to go out the back of the room. That was nice to have at 3am when he needed to go potty. Small patio with two chairs. The upper rooms have a very tiny balcony with no chairs. Pro's: The water side has a beautiful view of the Spokane River and marina. Lots of boats, wave runners, paddle boards, etc. There is a small beach with lots of chairs. The room is clean, spacious and the bed is comfortable. Some of the furnishings could have been a little nicer but they were fine. The lobby has been updated with colorful furniture. It has an indoor pool and exercise room. There is also a bar and restaurant. Lots of people having an evening cocktail. If you are traveling with your dog, there is plenty of grass for them. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms on the other side have an extra door out to the parking lot. Con's: The hotel needs a good coat of paint and some TLC. The hallways are dark and the grassy area at 3am was almost pitch black. Definitely needs more lighting inside and out. For safety concerns if nothing else. The elevator had pieces missing from the wall and only one in the entire building. The restaurant has a limited menu and the prices are high. I only had breakfast and wasn't impressed. Oh, and breakfast is extra. Most hotels include breakfast. It's a large hotel but with a few updates, it could be worth the extra money I spent to stay here. read more

After checking in and finding my room, I checked out Yelp and having reading all of the reviews, I found my experience VERY on par with everyone's reviews. LOOK OUT! IT'S THE RETURN OF THE LIST!!! The good: The room didn't stink. The bed was sleepable. I didn't get killed in my sleep. I wasn't charged more for my room than I originally paid for. The staff was friendly. The bad: The bathroom was small enough that you needed to get in the bathroom and close the door have room to exist. The floor boards between the bed and TV were loose to the point that you could feel them move when you stepped on them. The staff provided absolutely no information upon check in. The construction work (dare I say remodel work???) was more plentiful than expected. Without a specific reason to visit this place, I would never stay on my own accord. Again, all of the subpar reviews here on Yelp seem accurate. You're much better served with other hotels in the overall area if you can fine another room. read more

Booked our room for a week online, had an email confirmation of price. Was told the price included all taxes and fees. Upon check out, was told a price that was more than $200 more than quoted. Spoke to the lady at the front desk, she informed us that it was due to pet fees, charged daily. This was not explained upon check-in. She checked our room and let me know that she would remove the pet fees due to cleanliness of the room. Three days later, charges went through, including half of the pet fees. When I contacted the hotel, I was informed that I was going to be charged for half the pet fees. I had even provided them with the email from booking.
