Food was good! We actually had out food to go we got fish and chips. They did not hold back with the fish they gave us some bigggg pieces and lots of peas. The inside was so cozy we are definitely coming back to experience the pub itself. Ambiance looked fantastic and the service was very kind! I wasn't sure if they were going to let me use the restroom since I had a pickup order but thankfully they did. Very clean restrooms too!

I came with a friend on a Friday night and it was busy but we were able to get a table. The restaurant is decorated nicely and definitely feels like a pub. Service was good, but I was not impressed with the food at all. I had their mac & cheese, and the chocolate tres leches. It is definitely on the pricier side.

this place was gasssss. everything we ordered was soooooo yummy and wow the fish and chips were so good. I ordered the chicken tikka and was like woah. it's also so freaking cute inside, I loved the engravings of names on the booths. so cute and personal.

We had made a reservation for Christmas Day afternoon and it was the best decision! Staff were efficient & kind despite how busy they were (guess many ppl had the same right idea of coming here to enjoy an easy peasy Christmas meal). Menu was pared down but still plenty to choose from, and drinks menu was fully available whatever floated your fancy, in addition to a special Christmas cocktail list with mocktail options. The pub was decorated festively and everyone had a merry time!

The food was disgusting absolut greasy filth. I have never refused to pay for food till eating at this establishment and the unkind and rude waitress didnt help. I ordered pigs in a blanket didn't realize the blanket would be drenched in oil yet some how dry. I waited and waited for my unkind waitress who never came.i had to physical go get her after 20 minutes and when i informed her of the low quality food I was met with an unsavory attitude which is the closes thing they had to seasoned food my friend order the red lion Tikka which was lacking in flavor. The only way I could tell I was eating curry and not plain white rice was the fact the curry is a liquid. I would never go back to this establishment but if you're willing to don't have Tiffany as your server. Unless your in the mood for a bad attitude.

The food was mediocre. I've had authentic fish and chips from other British, Irish, and Scottish pubs around the US that had more flavor. The service was beyond horrible. Never once was checked on after my food came to me. The waiter found it appropriate to take out his wallet and put his tips onto it right next to me. The ambiance was the best thing about the place. I do not recommend this place unless it's your only choice.

Absolutely loved the relaxed and homey vibe of this place. Was super lovely and very relaxing. Never felt rushed. Service was very good. Food was solid. Bangers and mash were excellent. The warm custard wasn't my vibe but overall the dessert was tasty. Really excited to go back!

I came on a Saturday night at around midnight and walked in to a passionate karaoke session lol the vibes were great, the music was exclusively great '80s remixes, and the staff were super friendly and helpful! I loved the decor, inside and outside! I came for the English pub vibes, and was pretty satisfied with the place in person. The booths look great and are perfect for groups. The outdoor area was surprisingly beautiful! Lots of pretty lights and tables with fireplace centers. They also had darts near the bar, if you were looking for an activity. They have more draft, or "draught", beers than bottled. A bunch of English/European beers that you don't see at most bars. A nice cocktail menu with *strong* drinks. And apparently some decent food, even though I didn't get to try any. It was lively enough, but I expected it to be busier for a Saturday night. So I guess if you're looking for a place to go get a drink that's pretty low-key but has good energy, make your way over here and snag one of those comfy booths! It'd honestly be a great place to take a date!

If you're looking for a British pub/inspired dive bar, this is it. With a private parking lot that circles around the pub, you'll be sure to find a spot unless it is super crowded on weekends or late night especially when the game is on. There are a few tables on the patio and a lot of tables and booths inside, which is quite dim and quirky. My friend and I came for drinks and their daily special, which varies throughout the week. The best deal is when you arrive it coincides with happy hour. While there are a handful of British inspired (and Indian too) dishes like fish and chips or bangers and mash or butter chicken, we simply had their burger and fries with ice cold beer. The burger bun was larger than the beef patty itself and came with lettuce, onion, and tomato. Our server was friendly and efficient, kept checking on out table although the evening was quite busy. Extra condiments like mayo and malt vinegar were brought upon request. The burger bun was nice and buttery, grilled to perfection with ever so slight crispy edges. The beef patty was filling and seasoned well and topped with fresh lettuce, crisp onion, and ripe tomatoes. Washed it all down with a beer while enjoying some football on the screen. Good place to hangout with friends while grabbing a bite and a drink or two. The happy hour seems like a better place to be than other times but I wouldn't be opposed to checking it out spontaneously either.

The food was great. Loved the batter for the fish and chips. Tables seem unkept. Service was a little slow.

Delicious lamb vindaloo with chips instead of rice! I highly recommend asking for chips instead! The true English experience

I've been coming here for 20 years and I love it. As an Englishman living in Houston, this place is 100% authentic and true to British culture. It's as close to home as possible but without the jet lag. I enjoy many of my favorite classics from the fish and chips or sausage rolls to the delicious one off dishes they offer like the tandoori chicken quesadillas. They even make their own curries from scratch! Many of the service staff are long time employees here and it's truly a pleasure to see them when I come by. Great food and drink, calm atmosphere, and a taste of home. Truly a great place to be

Guinness was the only good thing we had today.

We have been coming to this place for years. Some of the pics I have taken in the past were reposted on their social media. I knew the former owner, but never ever will we be back. We ordered three of the lunch special and two out of the three had fish that was looked as if someone had taken bites out of both of them. The fish was showing through the batter. The server sent someone to our table with some wild explanation, he offered another piece of fish which we never received. Each plate had less than ten fries (chips) and they piled the peas on top of them. I am in the service industry and I was so confused. The server was nice but seemed confused that my British mother wanted a hot cup of tea in a pub. The fish was greasy and barely any in the batter. We used to love this place but I'm afraid I'll have to drive to Kemah here on out whenever I want a real plate of fish and chips. My boyfriend's said his burger was disgusting. I used to love this place...smh...

Ask the Community - Red Lion Houston

How far in advance to I need to order takeout to pick it up the same day?

Depends what time of day/ night. Weekends I would say 30 minutes

    Do you have Sunday Roasts?

Yes!!! And with Yorkshire puddings, all the trimmings.. it's so good.

Are other Red Lion places in other states related to this one or is this a private owned pub?

    Privately owned

    Is it pet friendly?

    Only on the patio

How do people get their name plate in the booths?

When everyone knows your name for a long time.

Have a friend that lives "across the pond" and he's told me that I have to try my luck at some YorkshirePudding? in the area. Did a search and your place came out number one on the list. Do you have this English delicacy?

For sure on Sundays with the roast beef Sunday dinner. They are good at substitutions here so you may be able to order another meal and add it. I don't think they have it all week. Since it's best fresh baked

We got there at 7:05 and didn't get our food until 8:25. Was the wait worth it? Absolutely. The steak was tender and juicy. The lamb chop was charred perfectly. And surprisingly enough, the sausage was my favorite. It was JUICY. When you bite into it, the juices literally burst out. Something had a little kick to it... it wasn't the sauce, but I actually liked it. The jalapeño cheddar mashed potatoes were also great.

Where do I start?…read more This was my first time coming here and I was blown away! 1. Drinks selection was awesome! I don't drink beer so they had non alcoholic drinks, and ciders! It was great and I was able to sample some to try but also got a flight! 2. Got two pizzas enough to share with others! The margarita pizza by far the best! The fries were good but I think I liked the garlic parm ones better! Also not pictures fish and chip omg best! Would get again. We also got the grits the seasoning was amazing but it was little dry. However I would still go back 3. Outside venue was beautiful Overall go early as seats are first come first serve especially if it's a big party! When walking in it wasn't crowded but there were a fair amount of guests for a near 10 pm crowd on a Wednesday. I went and sat at the bar to which I was immediately greeted and provided menus. Food & Drink - 5* I immediately ordered some wings and fried pickles and peppers. Then I debated between the Irish Stew or the Shepherd's Pie. When I inquired, both are great but advised I should go with the Shepherd's Pie. Off to races we go. Fried pickles and peppers, delicious, the batter isn't over the top yet doesn't fall off terribly. The cilantro jalapeño sauce is a fantastic pairing. The wings -- great, nice crisp, flavor was not necessarily what I expected, I couldn't place it at the time it they were good. Now, the shepherd's pie, wow, this dish was addicting. I'd come back over and over for this while sabotaging in semblance of a balanced diet. Just makes me know that the Irish stew is likely equally fantastic. The drinks, well, I can't speak to cocktails but the Guinness was delicious, cold, with nice collar/head. Can't go wrong with that! Service - 5* Everything one would want. Friend, fast, and attentive. Water was always full and was asked if needed anything multiple times. The only thing I didn't get proactively was napkins, but when I asked, I was provided some quickly. Cost - 4.5* Overall, I think, subjectively speaking, everything here is pretty well priced. The shepherd's pie may be a tad overpriced but it's worth it in how delicious it is. Overall - 5* This was a pleasant surprise to visit and I will certainly come back. Subjectively the location is good and bad. Being next to the improv and movie theater I'm sure helps attract many patrons for these businesses. At the same time, this joint, with a loyal following, would sustain business and "feel" better as a free standing establishment in a more neighborhood type environment.
