This is one of my favorite bars to watch sporting events in the neighborhood! Lots of screens everywhere no matter where you are sitting, and I like that they have audio/sound on for the big games (unlike some other bars I've been to). What really gives this place 5 stars for me is the food, which is surprisingly good for a sports bar, with my favorite being their chicken fried chicken! It's honestly my got-to spot to satisfy my CFC itch whenever I am craving it. They have rotating daily food specials, so be on the lookout for those. Where to begin. The Phoenix, previously the Firkin, has been around for two decades. Going on past a decade since their name change is saying something is done right in a town chock full of sports bar options. There's a lot to like about it here. Parking is limited, but they do have a lot, which is nice. The inside has the typical pub feel you'd want if you're out to watch a game from first pitch. The patio is solid, with plenty of tables and cooling near them in the summer months. Food & Drink - 5* They have a pretty diverse selection of menu items to fit what you may be craving. Personally, it's hard for me to pass up the nachos and fish 'n chips. I find their fish and chips to be one of the best in the city. There's certainly others, but you won't be disappointed here. Nice crisp fry, big piece of cod, and some great fries. If anything could improve, I'm more of a crunch fry person over heavy oil, but to each their own. That isn't to say the fries are bad. Their tartar sauce is good. For beer, they have several options from regular domestics, to local crafts, to more global / EU focused beers that any respectable pub should have - Guinness , Hofbrau , Kilkenny all off draft and many more in bottle. Service - 3* Here's where it can be a little hit and miss. I've had times where it's quick or the table service was on point. I've had instances where when it's packed it can take a bit if you're not directly at the bar. I have also seen a couple of times where I'm charged more for the pint than the price on the menu. This happened on my most recent visit - $6 pint on the menu, charged $7.50. I don't know why they do this, at the end of the day, as someone who spent plenty of time in the industry, I'm just going to take it out of your tip for trying to play games with me. Do better. My guess most people don't pay attention and it's a way to bleed a slightly higher tip out. For me, it's about being ethical , straight forward, and deliver great service, you'll get rewarded. Cost - 4* Subjectively, I find their food to be priced fairly for what you get in terms of quantity and quality. This is a spot that while it is pub food, it is a spot you can come to even if you're not seeking to catch a game. Overall - 4* For anyone that is looking for an unpretentious bar, consistent food, and great vibes - this is a spot to check out. My only tiff is with the service. Staff seemed nonexistent but figured out on my own that they use the QR system. So you need to find your own table, scan the QR code, and give them your personal email and phone number to get your tab started. You order and it will eventually arrive. There are some situations and places where this type of service works, but to me I am spending money for service that isn't there. Then to top it off the system defaults to a 25% tip suggestion. Other than that, I do like the place overall and it is a prime location. Their drink and food menu offers a decent selection. Parking is limited. Great futbol pub with a fun atmosphere on the times I've been. The service has always been solid here even during busy times. (easy to get a drink thanks to the waitstaff circulating the floor) The beer selection is consistently good, and the overall vibe gives you that classic British pub feel, reminiscent of the Sherlock/Baker Street pubs I frequent back in the day. That said, the food was a letdown for me on this most recent visit. I tried out their fish and chips (even upgraded to the extra filet), and unfortunately it was one of the worst I've had. And that's coming from someone who's tried plenty of pub food around Houston. It was mostly thick batter, overly greasy and soggy, and the fries underneath weren't fresh, just limp and bland. They know my name, know my regular orders and have my starter drink (club soda) ready in hand before I even take a seat. I heart them! There is plenty of variety of food options, from regular pub fare, vegan, daily specials and desserts, and unique pop-up choices from time to time. My favorite regular meals right now are the dancing beef, blackened catfish, and huevos rancheros, while some of the excellent pop ups are Fried Chicken frydays and bahn mi. I've heard about this place but have only been once many years ago because the food was typical bar food. After dining here last night the food has changed dramatically from the last time I remember. It was a Sunday afternoon in the City of Houston. Missy and I were cruising down Westheimer Road hunting the 49ers@LA Rams game. We hit the brakes for the Phoenix rising in-front of us. Not only was this joint right down the road from our Air BnB, but they were having a parking lot party! A fried rice cook off challenge! The food challenge was popping and lots of good times were being had. Missy and I rolled into this pub and found a nice booth. I was impressed with the interior pub feel and energy. Evan our server swung by the table and took our order for three appetizer picks. The appetizer spread was served and damn. I thought all of them were extremely tasty! My favorite however was the Chicken Kaarage with spicy mayo sauce!!! Irish Nachos and waffle fries were also great, and the chicken tenders are just a staple to have on the table. Evan our server was a hard worker checking in on us and refilling us when needed. The Phoenix Pub Grub was amazing tasty. They even have Brunch and a menu for your dogs! It was around 11pm and me and my friend were looking for a dog friendly restaurant that was open late and we were very lucky to find this spot. It's very hard to find a late night dog friendly spot! They have a little patio out back with just one big table and we had the whole patio to ourselves. You'll have to walk into the restaurant to get their attention and let them know you're outside though. Fried cauliflower was crispy with a nice thin batter. Pulled pork tacos were alright, but they were a little on the saltier side. My friend got the blackened fish and she said it was a little salty as well. We had the best servers when we went that night (2/22/23). Our dogs got treated like queens, which made me very happy. One of the guys came out probably around 3 times to give our dogs treats that they really liked and water. We also ordered off the doggy menu and got grilled hamburger patties for them. I really love this place. It is one of my regular places that I come to very often. I wish that I knew the name of my waiter, but she's a little short woman but I love her so much! She is my fave waiter. I have nothing to worry about, I don't have to ask twice, I don't have to check in, She's super attentive and personally I want her before anyone else. Aside from that though, the place is amazing. There's been a few times where we come in and we suggest a certain game. They usually have no problem turning the game on. it's just overall cool. I usually go at night but they do have a menu for pets that are available so it is a pet friendly establishment. The ambience of the facility it's super cool.
