King Crab and Loaded Baked Potato

Yep, I'm reviewing Red Lobster. Why? Because the experience was WAY better than I expected and this location in Casper, WY deserves the kudos. My husband and I were doing an overnight in the area and wanted to do something easy... and we were concerned that Red Lobster would be crazy busy. They were not and they went out of their way to make sure they were adhering to social distancing guidelines: hand sanitizer stations galore, servers maintaining a very safe distance from tables, paper menus, and everyone working there wore masks. I mean, the food was the same as most Red Lobsters. Buttery and probably more calories in a single bite than one should have in a week. That being said, I do like a good Cheddar Bay biscuit and Alaskan king crab. That and a glass of pinot grigio and it was a good meal! Yes, my expectations were low; however, this Red Lobster did a very good job at exceeding them.

I have to say the 4 stars is partly because Red Lobster exceeded my (un)expectations. If I had walked in with any we'd be having a different conversation. It's a chain restaurant in a town that, as a rule, hires whoever comes to work. I've been beaten and battered to death with bad service since I moved to Casper. So I wasn't terribly surprised when our party was sat and not greeted for about 25 minutes. To be fair the final member of our party arrived shortly before that 25 min but no one had checked in or brought waters or taken a drink order. This isn't shaping up to be a 4 star review. I went up to the host stand to politely inform them that there had been an oversight on our table and from there it changed immediately. My only big complaint from this point is how we were initially greeted by our server "are you ready to order I hear you've been waiting awhile". I know we got off to a bad start but I'm paying for the full experience. I just wanted to start, not jump up the end. We ordered drinks and appetizers. The front of house manager or shift lead (?) came by to let us know they were buying our apps. That was nice of her. She even insisted we order another since they were on the house. It's a nice gesture to make up lost ground. The food was as good or better than I expected but all that stuff is usually really salty. I had the mussels as an app and ended up trying the shrimp Baja bowl. My wife had the king pao shrimp bowl. Both were fine. We're mostly plant based and eat seafood on occasion so it's a treat in general to have a few shrimps. I also understand that may not make me the target audience. I did enjoy it for what it was. Our friends who were celebrating a birthday loved it. Loved the steak which appeared to be a perfect medium rare as ordered. My friend ordered the lobster feast and was easily able to sub out the linguine for something he preferred more. If there's an an accomplished bartender in Casper you should be able to make a killing teaching the local waitstaff how to make common drinks. Any manager of any establishment please consider doing some paid training for your bartenders. Every field benefits from regular professional development and the way people make drinks is grossly inconsistent without training. It sounds like I'm complaining but most of it is directed at the low bar established in the local community. After the mistake the red lobster team rose to the occasion. At some point towards the end the proprietor(?) even came out from his busy expo window to thank us for coming in and ensure we were taken care of. Keep up the good work Red Lobster. You're a stallion among ponies.

It included 2 orders of rolls, 5 sides, 2 kinds of meat, and 2 desserts. I was assigned a pick up time of 7pm-8pm, they got my order together and shuffled us out the door. When I got home and was unloading my car, I realized they had forgotten one of the rolls. I called them at 7:23pm and asked if I could come back and get them, and they said "well we are only here for 15 minutes so you need to hurry"..... (when we got there, they had tables full of food waiting to get picked up still so not sure why the rude comment about hurrying was necessary. I understand wanting to go home but YOU chose to do a 7-8pm pickup time and YOU forgot part of my order) I didn't receive any printed instructions on reheating/baking but realized later on that other customers had printed instructions so not sure why we didn't get any for our order. I spent $350 and was very disappointed in the meal. The rolls were hard, the sides lacked flavor, the dessert was just okay. Maybe I had my expectations too high after seeing all of the pictures they had posted of the food. What REALLY gets me is the lack of customer service.. the response from the owner on reviews and via email. That alone made me never want to support this business again, and then add in the wasted $350 meal and now I really won't be back. This used to be my favorite place to take my kiddos for Saturday morning donuts but after seeing the owners responses to customers and how I was spoken to on the phone about the forgotten rolls- I'll find a different local business to support.

So I was sort of disappointed when I went to order and my favorite appetizer the fried shrimp scampi was gone. Turns out NO PROBLEM, really because I ordered their new Shrimp Misto appetizer and DAMN, so good. We were all fighting over it and easy because there were 15-16 shrimp and tons of strips of fried green, yellow and red bell peppers with it. What a hit. My kiddo was sneaking shrimps like a bandit and he'd already had dinner. They were that good. So in addition to that all I ordered was a shells @ cheese dinner, wife & I split the soup(Zuppa Toscana, always yum) the two breadsticks and the online picture had four shells and it came with five so gave that one to the kiddo too. For a Sunday night take out under $30 order these guys really pleased. Thank you. I'll sleep well & full.
