We got the chips and dip trio and subbed guac for salsa. Queso and bean dip were good. Salsa was not good and the portions were a little small. The chicken quesadilla was just okay. Chicken was dry. I wouldn't get it again. I wish I had read prior reviews because a few people tried to warn about it. The steak tacos were very good and the best thing we ordered. Quaint and authentic Mexican restaurant that has been in business since 2009 so you know it's good. Gives off a somewhat upscale vibe because they had menu items I haven't seen before on a Mexican menu, which I like! I had chips and salsa ( love them!) and a brisket burrito which was delicious! Great margaritas as well. If I wasn't hitting the road to South Carolina, I would be a regular. The bathrooms are clean. Only ding was that the service was fairly slow. Red Mesa Cantina is located in a great spot in ST. Pete. My friend and I saw it on the side of the road and decided to try it out. They have indoor and outdoor seating areas. It is set up nicely and does not feel overcrowded. Our waitress was kind and helpful with choosing menu items. She also checked for accommodations that were needed for dietary restrictions with no hesitation. We ordered the steak taco, shrimp taco, and mushroom enchiladas. Since I couldn't have dairy, they took off the cheese sauces and gave a side of guac for an additional charge. The flavors of the food was pretty good. My friend also enjoyed her guava margarita. My first time here and I loved it! Will definitely be back. I came here with a party of 8 on a Saturday night and we were seated right away at some bar high tops outside. We didn't go inside at all, but the outside area is very pretty. We ordered a pitcher of margaritas and probably got 6-7 drinks out of it, so I definitely recommend if multiple people will be drinking. For food, I ordered the chicken enchiladas which were so yummy and I would get again. I do wish there were free chips and salsa, they were $15 so we opted to skip as that seemed very steep in my opinion. Service was very fast, especially for a large party on a Saturday night. I've been here twice now and the food never really impresses me but it's a great vibe with the outdoor courtyard, decorations (holiday and regular), etc. We got tacos, burritos, cilantro rice, and Brussels. Came back here again this weekend and was pretty disappointed at the new menu and that they changed their salsa. It's also annoying that you're charged for chips and salsa... most Mexican places give this to you which is one of the awesome things about going to a Mexican restaurant. Also, the chips had a stale taste to them and needed salt. The filet mignon tacos I ordered were good only because the meat was tender and I liked the tortilla, but I did not like that it was topped off with fried onions and an aioli.. I wanted a taco not a burger .. The carne asada here is nothing like your typical Mexican dish. The pieces of steak are good, but there was nothing Mexican tasting with this dish.. Went here during lunch on a beautiful weekday. I believed we arrived shortly after they opened so there weren't many people there. But by the time we left, the outside seemed as if it was very busy. The food- oh man, the quality of food is extremely fresh and the quantity was even better! The chicken taco salad had large portions of meat, they even add more salad to the side of the shell. Went on a Friday night and it wasn't too crowded. Location was perfect and service was efficient. We ordered many marg and the trio app to start. The queso and guac were pretty good. The salsa was ok. The portion was very small so app disappeared in no time. I ordered the vaca frita bowl ($23). It was decent, nothing spectacular, needed more seasoning and flavor. This place is huge! We stopped in for a quick lunch on a chilly day so the outside seating area was not in use. But there is a massive outside seating area (with bar) that would be wonderful for day drinking in warm weather ha ha ha. However, we sat inside. Staff was friendly and service was quick. We were able to walk in on a Tuesday with no reservation for a quick lunch. My friend got the Birria quesadilla and she really liked it. I decided to try several orders of tacos. They come in pairs. I got the filet mignon taco, the Carnitas taco, and the tacos gobernador. The Gobernador were my favorite! So so good. So flavorful. These tacos are pretty big. Just keep that in mind slightly bigger than typical street tacos. I was not able to eat all six. Carnitas was also good and had a lot of flavor. Kind of spicy. To be honest, the filet mignon tacos were my least favorite. Though I was the most excited for those. The beef was just a little chewy and I just feel like it didn't have as much flavor as the other tacos. I would def go back. Dreaming about those Gobernador tacos ! read more

We had a concert to go to at the mahaffey theatre so we walked over to the Red Mesa Cantina. We were a party of three and didn't make reservations, but were quickly seated. We noticed a few large parties there, so w were prepared for it to be loud and possibly slow service. Guys, we were shocked on the noise level being so moderate with tables being 15 plus, that we commented how we were prepared to yell to have a conversation. No idea how they did it, but what a win! They had so many great options that the drinks alone took up so much time debating (not a bad problem to have at all). If you stop here please give the Ube Coquito a go! We love visiting this location! My favorite drink is the Strawberry Margarita. I tried the Brisket Enchiladas for the first time. The flavors melded well together. The meat was tender and the tortillas were lightly fried and had a nice crunch to them. The rest of the crew enjoyed their meals as well. I'm giving 4 stars because the ceiling air vents are still dripping water on the tables after a year. Also, we stacked our appetizer plates and put at end of table and our server didn't pick the dirty plates or the used drink glasses up until right before he gave us the check. Only problem is that there weren't a lot of vegetarian options (not even a veggie burrito or cheese & nachos) from the online ordering menu. The online ordering menu (hosted by Toast) looked like a different menu from their website and there is an upcharge, assuming because they online ordering is through Toast. I wish the churros tasted as good as the ones from Honchos in San Antonio but they weren't which is understandable because they are a restaurant, not just a churro house. It's been a while since we've been to Red Mesa (since Pre-Covid). Hubby and I remember really enjoying it and decided to check it out again. We both ordered the Seafood Mofongo as we are fans of mofongo. This was unbelievably good! It's a one dish meal, with a small ball of mofongo surrounded by seafood in broth. At first I thought it was a smaller portion, but it turned out to be just the right size. The mofongo was so tasty and I think it was because they added the sweet plantains to the green ones. The broth and the seafood was perfect. It had a lot of shrimp and calamari rings. I guess they no longer offer free chips and salsa, so we ordered some as an appetizer. They were very good. Came for a casual dinner and chose to eat on back bar area. The area is clean, open and first come seating. The bartender was amazing told us about 1/2 price signature drinks and margaritas on Wednesday! The drinks were well made and delicious. We also wanted food so we ordered tuna poke and brisket enchiladas. If you follow the old addage that you eat with your eyes avoid this area for eating! My wife really enjoyed the southwest burrito bowl which is why this review is 4 stars. Filling, delicious and a good sized portion. My 2 filet tacos were street size tacos, pricey considering the portion size and hardly filling. Thankfully, I had ordered a side of seasoned fries which helped fill me up. In town for work and a co-worker highly recommended trying Red Mesa. I was lucky enough to find street parking right across the street. Unfortunately because it was dark and I didn't have my glasses on, I misread that the meters are enforced until 8pm as 6pm so I ended up with a parking ticket. Seated immediately on arrival in the really cool outside patio area. I don't think it would have been as enjoyable in the heat of summer but it was excellent on this nice fall evening. Margaritas are my go to drink and when I found out could add Blackberry to the House Margarita, I was sold. It was top notch. The only thing that would have made better was still to have a salt rim. Since I was wavering on my entree choice, I asked for recommendations from my server and opted for the suggested Brisket Enchiladas - Chile fresno bechamel, chayote squash relish, pickled red onion, queso fresco, crema, cilantro. I was a little surprised that the enchiladas were crispy instead of the typical soft version that I am used to. More like a taquito. Not mad, just unexpected. I enjoyed it enough that I would order again but maybe after trying some other options. The avocado salad and seafood mofongo were delicious. I wanted a side salad, which they did not have, so I just went ahead and ordered the avocado salad. It was well worth it for $10 - fresh ingredients layered together in a zesty blend. The seafood mofongo was creamy, rich, and tangy. So many different textures, flavors, and cultures blended together in superior fashion. And at the heart of it was still mofongo. And at $20, this was really a steal. Great service as well. Bartender poured an extra beer by accident, so I got one on the house. Very solid Filet Tacos if you like Filet Mignon and Tacos. The bar service was great and it was pretty busy during lunch time on a weekday.

We had a larger party, so we were lucky to be able to snag a table on a weekend during peak dinner time. The interior was dark and dimly lit so if you need light, try getting a table outside. As for the service, the hostess wasn't welcoming, and our server was MIA a lot. On to the food - we started with chips and queso; can't go wrong with that. I ordered the YUCA FRITTERS and they were so dry that I can't recommend this. For $12, I could have bought my own yuca and made it at home. For my entrée, I ordered a SHRIMP TACO, and it was good; this I can recommend. For my drink, I ordered the STRAWBERRY SANGRIA, and it was ok, nothing rememberable. This visit was a disappointment as Red Mesa is considered a "St. Pete Staple". I probably wouldn't revisit as nothing really hit for me except the shrimp taco, and the service was below sub-par which really seals the deal for me. read more

OMG!!!! Amazing I loved EVERYTHING! The mofongo was EVERYTHING, the chips were yummy and the salsa tasted very fresh! The tacos look a bit underwhelming and small but they are FULL of flavor and honestly just the right amount. My friend got the Birria Quesadillas and she also loved it! Our dinner was fantastic. I was craving Mexican on a night out in St. Pete and the brick building with red signage called to me. I got the Peruvian chicken which was ginger-soy mojito chicken stewers atop a bed of chimichurri tamarind aioli and fried red potatoes. Salsa criolla crowned the chicken.
