Maybe it's because I'm from LA and spoiled by an absurd range of incredible Mexican food--from celeb hotspots to the little hole-in-the-wall joints I actually prefer--but I genuinely expected better. I ordered the chimichanga, normally my go-to comfort dish. What I got instead was a dry, thick, flavorless giant spring roll impersonating a chimichanga. My family and I come here a lot. This has become our favorite spot after soccer games and the kids love it too. The workers and the owner are so sweet! They even opened up the other side which is a grocery store. I've ordered plenty of items on the menu because I love trying new things and the pictures are very tempting. My favorite orders have to be the steak quesadilla, the steak taco salad, and the tostadas. The kids love the steak nachos and burrito and the younger kids love the flautas. Our first time here and ordered for takeout. The food overall was delicious however, the queso was a bit watery and lacked flavor and the taco meat was a little dry. We did get extra sauces so it helped. The prices were decent, not too expensive for everything we got. We will definitely eat here again, but try different menu items. read more

So he can't even do simple math. I don't even think he put the money in the register. I've heard about how amazing this restaurant is for years. I finally try it. Did I go to a different restaurant? The menu is listed on a board hung up behind an unused serving table. There is also a serving table with some unidentified things in sauces, but it doesn't appear that we choose from that. The menu is in Spanish and English, but nothing is clear on how it's prepared or what sides and sauces come with it. I settle on my go-to, cheese enchiladas and a pork tamale. After having the tip jar shoved across the counter at me when I paid with a card, I receive a paper plate with a giant gob of slightly melted cheese embedded with corn tortillas and covered with wilted shredded lettuce. I ask for salsa. There is none. There are 2 sauces on the table in squirt bottles. Green and red. The Tamale is not horrible. Just dry. The staff did not seem to speak English--not necessarily a bad thing, but they also didn't want to try to understand my high school Spanish. Very disappointing. read more

Service was great the inside very was kind of cafeteria seating slash convenience store. Were there for the food, we went kind of late so I believe that what we did get was food that was cooked earlier in the day and had been sitting out. They just reheated it up on the flat iron grill. The Gorditas came out astonishingly small (less than the size of my palm) and the flavor of all these items were underwhelming. While a cute atmosphere, the food can best be described as "mid", there was no wow factor present and quite honestly the restaurant didn't seem busy enough to even use that as an excuse. I love this place SO MUCH! I went an entire year ago and I've been wanting to go back ever since. I live across the bridge so it's not exactly a hop & a skip away. Yesterday I was the area and wanted tacos so I knew there was not other place I wanted to go to other than Chile Verde. Being that it was over a year ago since I let went I couldn't remember the name or address of the place but the taste and smell of the tacos was still very vivid in my mind. So I did some research and to my delight I found the place and the address and it wasn't that far from where I was so of course I stopped by. I ordered 10 tacos for myself and my family. I ordered 4 Carne asada (my fave) three Pastor and three Carnitas. I dug in before even taking a picture that's how excited I was! I initially ordered them to go but I couldn't stand the thought of having to wait even longer to indulge so I unpacked my whole family and we all sat inside and ate. From there time I ordered I felt very welcome and like they were really happy to have me there. I went on a Saturday early afternoon so it wasn't busy at all. There's parking right outside the doors so we were able to early park and walk right in. The owners were there and were super accommodating to me my family which includes three young kids. My girls which normally only like chicken nuggets and fries tore these tacos up! I'm so glad I found this place again and I already can't wait to go back to St Pete to have some more! read more

An old convenience gas station transformed in to a fast food type Mexican restaurant/store. You walk in and order. Food is ready in approximately 10 minutes. I ordered the Carnitas burrito Panzon (my guy had the chicken burrito panzon and said it was best he ever had). The carnitas was luke warm, the rice was cold. Didn't see any beans, no sour cream, but the tiny container of salsa Verde was delish. Know it's made from scratch because I saw two cases of beautiful tomatillos being delivered while sitting outside at one of the dilapidated tables. Huge flow of working folks going in and out so it appears that it is a popular spot for lunch. I've read the rave reviews and wonder what happened the day we stopped in. I can't believe I haven't stopped in here till now! It's no frills, but a clean and comfortable place to get some of the best Mexican food in the St. Pete area. There is a variety of meats to choose for and then you get it into the dish you want - tacos, burritos, enchiladas, chimichangas, etc. You can get food to eat there or to take away. We grabbed food to eat there (enchilada and chimichanga) and then got a 1/2 dozen tamales to go. If you are like me and have driven past this place time and time again... seriously you need to just go inside already! I did not know what I've been missing out on. There is a large (dimension-wise) menu hung up that lists meats and the different 'vessels' if you will-- tacos, burritos, quesadilla etc. I appreciate options of different proteins and an a la carte style that encouraged me to try different tacos. I ordered 4 mexican style tacos-- ranked, starting with my favorite: 1. lengua (cow tongue), 2. chorizo (sausage), 3. borrego (lamb), 4. asada (beef). The lengua was really great, but all were tasty. I was glad they came with enough ripe limes too. Sauces were alright. I spent $10.66 tonight. Don't wait to try this place! Came here for dinner. DO NOT order queso here, it's not queso. It is identical to the kind you get at a stadium, maybe even worse. It was also cold. The horchata lacked flavor as well. Pricing was way too high for what you get, was almost $40 for the bad food, one beer and one horchata. Don't recommend. Ill start this review off by saying I am from San Diego, for those who don't know it is home of the best Mexican food in the world. I have spent a ton of time trying to find a solid Mexican restaurant and have had success here and there. Mostly its a different style here in Florida with the black beans and rice. Chile Verde has done a fantastic job with their Floutas and tacos. All of the food here is made fresh and over all just amazing food. I came here the other day as I usually do and just had to post and rant about this burrito. I had such high expectations for this place but based on this first visit I think I'm good. I'm sure they used to be good but businesses tend to get complacent. I had the carne asada and barbacoa taco and they definitely needed more seasoning and flavor. The tacos were basically empty the barbacoa needed more protein especially for the price point and they were sloppily assembled. The service was ok definitely not over the top friendly.
