All of their entrées comes with side bread. I did get a Caesar salad and it was very good. The Caesar salad dressing is super delicious.. Their parking lot is very small, especially for dinner time. It is packed and you could find yourself waiting 15 minutes before someone leaves. There are street parking, but those spots are usually all taken. The neighborhood is only for residential permit parking. You may find yourself walking 2 to 3 blocks to get to this restaurant if they're parking lot is full.

While I can't know exactly what was being discussed, the timing made us feel uncomfortable and self-conscious. Whether or not it was about us, it left us feeling embarrassed and completely changed the mood of our evening. It's difficult to enjoy a special dinner when you feel unwelcome and I felt humiliated. Thankfully, the other staff members who delivered our food and cleared our plates were warm, friendly, and attentive. One even recommended a wonderful red wine to pair with my husband's pasta, and it was an excellent suggestion! Overall, the atmosphere created by some members of the staff felt cold, uninviting, and pretentious, which can quickly diminish what should be an enjoyable dining experience. Maybe when you get a Golden Spoon you don't have to try anymore for friendly and inviting?? It's unfortunate because the food is truly outstanding and deserving of high praise. They gravitate toward Linden Hills, Excelsior, and Wayzata. It's odd, because we all live in Minneapolis, not Saint-Tropez. These folks are fairly homogenous and dress as if they just stepped off their sailboat or their tennis court. Even when at a nice restaurant, they must appear sporty, never flashy, except when you spy the Louis Vuitton purse or Prada athletic bag. Most of the men, if older, have a full head of gray hair and dress for the country club. Gia was filled with them. I don't fit into that particular tribe. I'm short with hardly any hair on my head, and like to dress fashionably, but never sporty. I dress as if I'm in NYC, where I grew up, and I like cool clothes, even though I'm an old fart. The stares I received were not welcoming. Jeff, the ubiquitous server/bartender who took care of us, was great, as was the omnipresent woman who took care of the front. The spice level was exactly to my liking--enough heat to bring the dish alive without overpowering the flavors. Needless to say, I loved it. Our table ordered quite a variety, including steak, salmon, chicken, lasagna, and another pasta dish, and every single plate received rave reviews. It's rare for a large group to be unanimously impressed, but Luie's managed a solid 10/10 across the board. For appetizers, the antipasto was very good, and although I didn't personally try the sausage and peppers, they certainly looked delicious and disappeared quickly from the table. And the bruschetta was toooooo good! Great food, excellent service, and a wonderful atmosphere make Luie's an easy place to recommend. I'll definitely be back.

But sometimes I want a restaurant thats quiet, serving large portions of tasty traditional dishes, with great service. That's Caffe Biagigio. It's a neighborhood staple serving traditional italian American cuisine. They have experienced, kind, and formal waitstaff and private seating. Fresh flowers were on each table. Their menu was filled with italian classics from spaghetti and meatballs to fruitti de mare. We enjoyed chicken parmigiana (two large crispy, cheesy, and well seasoned cutlets) and lobster ravioli (5 large ravioli served in a rich delectable cognac sauce). The dining room is small and intimate, with a wood-burning fireplace quietly crackling. It feels a little old-school and special with the classic white linen tablecloths, traditional silver and china, and the best part is no loud music blaring! Our table especially loved the ravioli with tender braised pork lamb. The house made bread and butter and the beautiful lemon soup I started with was perfect - trust me on the soup! The service is friendly, but if you are in a hurry, they are not. They bring olive oil and herbs to the table with homemade bread to start which is an extra touch I think most restaurants have stopped doing. They did offer any pasta dish to be made with gluten-free penne. My pasta dish was tasty and warm but the meat was sparse, and though the prices seem fair, I would say all around this was an average experience. I can see how this could have sentimental value to people who live in the neighborhood, and I do like to support independent restaurants so I'm glad we tried it, but if you are a true foodie and if you are looking for great Italian, I don't think this is the spot.
